Supersilk by Sam Brocato, just as the name implies (and a little Actives too)

sam brocato bio

A lot of us have hair dreams; ways we’d like our hair to look, colors and styles we’d love our hair to sport, and stylists we’d like to make our hair look the way of our dreams. One such stylist is Sam Brocato of Sam Brocato Salon in New York City. He’s been working in the industry for three decades and has created his own haircare lines that are as amazing as he is. No matter what your hair texture is, Brocato has products to help you recreate at home the shine and beauty that you’d leave a salon with.

Brocato Supersilk shampoo, leave-in treatment and Actives Hair Infusion

Brocato Supersilk shampoo, leave-in treatment and Actives Hair Infusion

I was sent three products from Brocato to test out that were perfect for my keratin treated hair. Even the name, supersilk, projects the image of what I want my hair to look like. I’ve been using these products for most of the summer. When I first received them I was at the tail end of a keratin treatment and my hair wasn’t in the condition I wanted it to be in. Using Brocato supersilk Pure Indulgence Shampoo and Pure Indulgence Leave-In Treatment brought back most of the shine and manageability until I had the time and money to have another treatment.

Now I’ve had the pleasure of using these two products, along with actives Restorative Hair Infusion, with two heads of hair (well it might not have been different heads, just different hair conditions). With both I’ve been very happy and love the results. Supersilk was developed to be used with Sam Brocato’s Supersilk system which is a 100% formaldehyde free method of straightening hair.

brocato_supersilk_shampooSupersilk Pure Indulgence Shampoo is sulfate free and paraben free ($24, 8.5 fl oz). It has a pH of 5.5. It contains silk amino acids which bond to the cuticle layer to optimize the supersilk or keratin effect. One of the things I’ve noticed about shampoos that I can use for treated hair is that they don’t suds very much. Not only does Pure Indulgence Shampoo suds nicely but it rinses out cleanly and easily.brocato_supersilk_treatment

The second step is Pure Indulgence Leave-In Treatment ($20, 4 fl oz). This is meant to help keep the effects of any treatment you have done last longer. It’s also packed with silk amino acid as well shine enhancing oils. This is best used after you get out of the shower and start to towel dry your hair although I have used it in the shower and rinsed it out and it turned out fine.  On my shoulder length hair I use about a dime’s worth. I want the benefit of the product without anything to weigh my hair down.  I rub it between my hands and finger comb through my hair before picking up a real comb. It’s a pleasure to comb through without encountering tangles. And it leaves my hair soft and shiny.brocato actives

The third product is from Brocato’s actives line and is called Restorative Hair Infusion. This delightful product is a shine serum that can be used by anyone – curly, wavy or straight. It is a high shine clear serum that contains oils like Linseed, Rosa Moschata Seed and several more I can’t spell. It’s perfect before flat ironing since it protects my hair as well as seals in the shine. I’m one of those people that likes it when someone wants to touch my hair to see if it feels as silky as it looks. That seems to happen when I’m using the Restorative Hair Infusion. I don’t start near my scalp, I use this from about my ears down and then run whatever remnants are left through the rest of my hair.

It’s been a pleasure to learn about this line of haircare from Brocato that I wouldn’t have known about. It was featured at a Beautypress event in NYC that I wasn’t able to attend but luckily have benefited from. Take the time to look through Sam Brocato’s website to see what products you could benefit from too. You might find the hair of your dreams too. — Marcia

Top Ten Tuesday – what’s in my shower

Top Ten Tuesday has decided to reveal what’s in our shower (or bathtub) this week. While I’m picking 10 items that are in my shower you need to know that this is at THIS moment. Shower items change all the time. The products in there actually get used up which is a rarity in my life. I’d probably have a lot more in the shower if it weren’t for my DH who hates moving things around and limits me. All of the items listed are Top 10 material.  — Marcia

Top 10 Shower

1. Brocato Supersilk Pure Indulgence Shampoo* – a review is coming so watch for it since this is a wonderful product.

2. My Amazing Blow Dry Secret Shampoo*
3. My Amazing Blow Dry Secret Conditioner* – these two are new for me and I’ve just been testing them a short time but the purpose of these is to cut down the time to blow dry. What you need to know is that this works! These two products definitely cut time and leave my hair looking good. A review will follow on these too.

4. DermOrganic Intense Hair Masque* – I only have to use a mask twice a month and this one is terrific. It does a great job on moisturizing my hair.

5. Venus Divine Razor
6. Razorpouch* – I recently reviewed this handy holder. It’s great for travel and for keeping the clutter down in my shower.

7. Shave with Benefits – I’m a broken record with this product since it’s my #1 preference for shaving.

8. Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar, Unscented – my ob/gyn recommended unscented Dove to me 25 years ago and I’ve used it ever since. No more gyn infections!

9. Algenist Multi-Perfecting Detoxifying Exfoliator* – that’s a mouthful but it’s worth the mouthful. This is part of Algenist’s Pore Minimizing Line and this facial exfoliator is great to help minimize pores.

10. SpaSonic* – since this is waterproof it’s a good tool to keep in the shower. It’s gentler than an ultrasonic machine which I like early in the morning. It’s good for me to get all of my Algenist Exfoliator off plus I can use it on my feet and body.

So there’s the 10. Most of these are items I love using all the time, hair products get changed more often than the rest and I’m in the market for a new shower wash so I can’t wait to read what my blogger buddies are going to teach me. Please click on these bloggers icons so you can learn what other items are loved.
