Spring lilacs may be gone, but my peonies and lilies and roses are in full bloom! Winters in Michigan can be rough going, but this time of year is simply glorious.SOUFEEL braceletTake a gander at the gorgeous bracelet I put together at SOUFEEL to celebrate spring and summer flowers. Wantable July 2015 Accessories Collection is here!

Wantable July 2015 Accessories Collection

*July’s collection was sent for review, we include affiliate links for Wantable personalized accessories so we can build credits for future collections*

I love the days I find a Wantable package on my front porch. I never have any doubt that what’s inside will either be items soon to become a staple in my wardrobe, or else ones that go a little outside my comfort zone and challenge me to take a risk. This month, all my items are staples…nothing outrageous, but lots that fit right into my accessories wardrobe, rounding it out nicely and adding versatility.

Wantable July 2015 Accesorries Collection Ellen Scarf

Wantable July 2015 Accessories Collection Ellen Scarf

The Ellen Scarf (retail value $28) is a beautiful light scarf with paisley grey print on an off-white background. I love it because it is so versatile. It works great paired with everything from denim to a summer dress. I brought it with me to the movies because the cinema is always so cold and it was a perfect weight to carry and also give me a little warmth.

Wantable July 2015 Accesories Collection Caroline Bracelet

Wantable July 2015 Accessories Collection Caroline Bracelet

The Caroline Bracelet (retail value $19) is simple yet beautiful. This cuff bracelet is made of brass and has stunning chain link accents. Again, versatile is the word – I wear it with jeans shorts and a white t-shirt or with a summer maxi dress.

Wantable July 2015 Accessories Collection Pamela Necklace

Wantable July 2015 Accessories Collection Pamela Necklace

I can never have enough long necklaces, so I was happy to find the Pamela Necklace (retail value $17). This is a silver necklace with gold bead accents and a double chain. The longer chain ends with a coin pendant.

Wantable July Accessories Collection Earring Trio

Wantable July Accessories Collection Nala Earring Set

The Nala Earring Set (retail value $19) was actually a mistake in my collection! I was supposed to get the Shanny Ring, but got this fabulous earring trio instead. I think I got lucky! I love the little golden feathers and the other two stud earrings are really pretty when worn together.

Lots of staples that add versatility to my wardrobe in this collection! I am once again a happy camper. With a retail value of $83 this month, Wantable continues to be a subscription service well worth the monthly price. Perfect for Valentine’s Day: Lisa Hoffman Kerala Ashok Garden Bracelet

Fragrance is an excellent Valentine’s Day gift. Jewelry is an excellent Valentine’s Day gift.  So Lisa Hoffman’s fragrance jewelry, her ingenious combination of the two, is the perfect gift. Lisa Hoffman sent the Kerala Ashok Garden Bracelet ($75) and it is really, truly stunning. Not only is it seriously practical (your jewelry and fragrance all in one!), it is gorgeous.

Lisa Hoffman Kerala Ashok Bracelet

Lisa’s fragrance jewelry was inspired by the Victorian Era, when showing your diamonds and jewelry was considered to be in bad taste. Jewelers made ‘fronts’ that covered the jewels for elegant woman as they traveled to parties and concerts. Lisa’s earrings, pendants, and bracelets have a charm similar to those ‘fronts’ that encases small fragranced wooden beads. The wooden beads slowly release the scent as they are exposed to air for a subtle delivery of fragrance.

Lisa Hoffman Kerala Ashok Garden Bracelet

Lisa Hoffman Kerala Ashok Garden Bracelet

The wooden beads retain their scent for a long time and have a great ‘throw’. For her Kerala Ashok Garden Bracelet, Lisa redesigned the fragrance charm to hold even more beads for more fragrance power. The bracelet and beads arrive nicely packaged in a pretty mesh bag. You can also buy refill jars of the fragrance beads for $20 so you never run out of fragrance and can put different scents into the jewelry if you’d like.

Kerala Ashok Garden Bracelet fragrance charm

The Kerala Ashok Garden Bracelet is a striking bracelet that celebrates both the strength and the softness of femininity. The fragrance is a beautiful floral combination of Ashok blossom, Deep Violet, Ripe Pear, Velvety Apricot, and Sheer Jasmine. The silver fragrance charm perfectly complements the lovely vintage purple glass beads. The fragrance charm opens up, and you put a few of the wood beads inside then snap closed. As you move your arm, the fragrance wafts about you in a beautifully subtle way.

The perfect Valentine's Day gift: Lisa Hoffman Kerala Ashok Garden Bracelet

The perfect Valentine’s Day gift: Lisa Hoffman Kerala Ashok Garden Bracelet

The bracelet is so pretty, Lisa says it “acts as a constant reminder to inhale bliss and exhale peace.” What a beautiful message for a day that celebrates love!

While all of her jewelry is amazing, I think the Kerala Ashok Garden Bracelet  is simply perfect for Valentine’s Day. Head on over to the Lisa Hoffman Beauty website and check it out – which one do you think is the perfect V Day gift?  – Lisa

April’s PopSugar Must Have box – must you have this??

The April version of the PopSugar Must Have bag isn’t really a must have for me. I’ve had it about a week though and it’s slowly growing on me. Initially when I opened the box my heart sort of sank. It just didn’t look like anything that was worth $35 to me. My feelings have changed and I like the box but I can’t say I love it or would have purchased it if I’d had a preview.

PopSugar Must Have for April 2013

PopSugar Must Have for April 2013

I’ve reviewed almost all of the PopSugar Must Have boxes that I’ve bought. I’ve used a lot of the items in the boxes but I’ve also given away a lot of the items. PopSugar picks a theme and puts in items according to the theme. All boxes are exactly the same unlike some of the beauty subscriptions like Glossybox and Birchbox. I’ve only gotten one box so far that I’d consider to be beauty oriented. These are lifestyle boxes. April’s theme is for Earth Day (April 22nd) so it’s in the eco spirit.

Here are the items in the April PopSugar Must Have Box; their website’s picture makes it look like a bigger box than it actually is. Kai Perfume Oil (value $48); Shashi Nugget Bracelet ($30); Tatchi Evening Blotting Papers ($15); Alter Ego Dark Chocolate Quinoa bar (?? maybe $3-5); The Green Garmento All In One Bag ($10). This equals approximately $105 which places it right about where PopSugar says the value will be.

My opinions:

Kai Perfume Oil – I’m sure this is nice, it’s got a nice value for it. But I personally don’t wear fragrance so this will be either gifted or put in a Beauty Info Zone prize box. I’m probably in the minority when it comes to fragrances in subscription boxes but it’s the one thing I never want. Kai is a “light, fresh smell of gardenia and white exotic flowers.”

Kai perfume oil

Kai perfume oil

Kai Perfume OIl

Kai Perfume OIl

Shashi Nugget Bracelet – this is very cute but there’s a B.U.T. here. It’s meant to be worn stacked. They show these bracelets on their website along with other bracelets. So if you loved it and wanted it to have a certain look, it’s going to cost you more. Of course you might have other bracelets that it would look good with so it might not be a problem. The boxes had either cobalt, turquoise or gray. Even though their website shows it should be available in 6 colors, all that’s available at this writing is turquoise.  It’s 1/8th inch wide, has adjustable sizing and it’s the cord that holds the nugget that’s the turquoise shade.

Shashi bracelet

Shashi bracelet

Tatcha Evening Blotting Papers – I received Tatcha Blotting Papers once before from them. It’s nice, it’s beauty, it’s sort of special because of the brand. I’m just not thrilled. What makes these the “night” ones is that they are smaller so they fit into your clutch.

Tatchi Evening Blotting Papers

Tatcha Evening Blotting Papers

Alter Ego Dark Quinoa Organic Chocolate bar – I love dark chocolate. Here’s what they say about it “Delicious chocolate with the perfect amount of crunch, it’s also 100% Organic & Fair Trade Certified — so treat yourself without the guilt.” I guess if I pretend it’s Rice Krispies and it’s not healthy I might like it more. (Actually I did like it, it’s a very dark chocolate taste with a touch of crunch.)

Alter Ego Dark Quinoa Organic Chocolate bar

Green Garmento All in One bag – If you are a fan of Shark Tank then you might have seen the company on the show. I think it’s very smart of them to get into a box like this. It gets their name out to a lot of people that might not know of them or glossed over them. When I saw what this big black thing was in my box I was a bit dismayed but I’m glad I have it. I’m going to use it for travel since it’s sturdy enough for that but they recommend that you drop off your dry cleaning in the bag and tell the cleaners to replace it in the bag and skip the plastic. Not a bad idea. They also make these longer if you needed it for maxi dresses or gowns. It says POPSUGAR on it in bright pink so your significant other may not want to take it on a business trip but it’s actually pretty handy.

April’s box brought Food (eh), Beauty x 2 (ok, not exciting), Fashion (not sure about this) and Lifestyle (my favorite item in the box). It wasn’t a great box but it wasn’t awful. You can get $5 off your first box by using the code REFERFRIENDS5. If you do order I’d love you forever if you used my referral code (http://popsu.gr/yqR). What do you think you’d enjoy from this box? Is it enough to get you to buy one yourself in spite of my “meh” review? — Marcia

Starbox is back for January with Pantone colors to thrill us

January Starlooks.com Starbox

January Starlooks.com Starbox

Suddenly the name Pantone has become a buzz word in the cosmetics world. Artists have always relied on Pantone for color accuracy and it’s been important for true makeup artists as well. But now it’s come to the masses and we will be influenced by Pantone’s colors and Color of the Year for a long time to come. In 2012 they announced it was Coral and now for 2013 Emerald has been coronated. The January Starlooks box (aka Starbox) is right where it belongs with beautiful shades of lighter coral and green.

Starbox for January

Starbox for January

Each month Starlooks sends a beautiful box they’ve curated of their own cosmetic line along with a surprise or two. So far the boxes I’ve received have all been quite different from each other, always filling me with surprise and delight.

January Starbox

January Starbox

January’s box contains a gorgeous peach blush called Cuty Peach, a brown eyeliner pencil, a Diamondline Eye Liner in Fancy (a fabulous light green), a dome eyeshadow brush and the surprise of a beaded bracelet by Abby Rose Designs in Emerald. Plus they always include a crystal to collect. I now have a small collection of these. They’ve changed their program a little which I’ll explain after telling you about these great products.

All the Starbox goodies

All the Starbox goodies

I’m trying not to pick a favorite but I’m absolutely loving Cuty Peach blush and Fancy Diamondline eyeliner. The blush is luminous and reminiscent of much more expensive blushes that I have including one from Sunday Riley. The peach has enough pink in it to be a universal shade. It’s not shimmery at all, it’s just buttery soft and well pigmented. I have to use a light hand with this but it lasts all day long!

Fancy Diamondline eyeliner is a beautiful eyeliner but I personally don’t use light shades like this. So how am I using it? As an eyeshadow or eyeshadow base! It’s so soft and smudges beautifully especially with the great Dome Brush included in the Starbox. The brush is very soft and does a great job of smudging especially. The other eyeliner is a brown eyeliner – what else can I say? It too smudges well but I like it as a straight brown eyeliner for my top lashline.

The bracelet was the biggest surprise. Abby Rose Designs is a shop on Etsy. (etsy.com/shop/abbyrosedesigns). Their motto is “The world around us is inspiring – a gorgeous palette of emotion and allure, both of which are incorporated into each Abby Rose piece. Inspiration can be drawn at a moment’s notice – from texture, color, or even a fleeting thought.” Beautiful sentiments and a nicely made piece of costume jewelry just right for this season. (Plus I’ll finally have something green to wear on St. Patrick’s Day!!).

Here’s how Starlooks/Starbox has changed (or maybe it was there all along and I didn’t notice it!!). You can accumulate Star Dollars through purchases. For every dollar you spend you receive a star dollar. 100 points gives you $10 Star Dollars towards a purchase. They ship for free (unless your package is over 10 lb.) and the prices of their products are very reasonable. The eyeliners are $8, the blush is $12, the brush is $15. The Abby Rose Design bracelet sells for $15. The box costs $15 each month and if you miss a box they often have them still for sale for $25. The January box has a value of $58. I received this box from the company for review but I’m having so much fun with it that I’ve now subscribed to Starlooks/Starbox to see what other treasures they’ll be bringing me starting in February. This box of beauty is definitely worth the fun that the $15 will bring. — Marcia
