Makeup Wars favorite concealers – which 3 are my choices?

makeup-wars-concealers-all

You could say that I have an obsession with concealers if you wanted. I readily admit to an obsession since these are the concealers I could pull together for a picture and I’m sure I’m missing some. I’ve purchased at least 75% of these and just last week bought another. Since we’re featuring Favorite Concealers this week it’s the perfect chance for me to share 3 of my latest loves. I have told you about a million times already that I love IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Eye and CC+ Eye so I won’t bore you with that. Instead here are three newer concealers that I highly recommend.

Favorite concealers: Bravon, Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector, Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Concealers

Favorite concealers: Bravon, Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector, Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Concealers

BOBBI INTENSIVE SKIN SERUM CONCEALER AND INTENSIVE SKIN SERUM CONCEALER: After a wonderful Bobbi Brown event I couldn’t resist these two products along with their Intensive Skin Serum Foundation. My skin, especially my under eye area, looked flawless and stayed that way throughout the day and evening. ($40 each)

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer was created with your under eye area in mind. This is a soft and silky concealer that comes in a typical wand. One dip into the tube gives me enough concealer for both eyes. I dab it on in 3 spots and then use my finger to warm it and smoothe it. I’ll usually go over it with a cosmetic sponge after to make sure it’s blended well. My concealer shade is Porcelain and it’s one of 15 shades available.

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Corrector

Formulated with a skin-boosting blend of Cordyceps Mushroom, Indian Tree Root, and Bamboo Grass, Intensive Skin Serum Concealer helps to visibly reduce dark circles caused by aging and excess pigmentation. It re-energizes tired-looking skin and supports its natural repair process while boosting the skin’s moisture levels for a plumper, smoother, and more refreshed look. The weightless serum texture floats over skin and layers seamlessly over Bobbi Brown’s Intensive Skin Serum Corrector (sold separately).

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Corrector actually gets applied first. Some days I’ll use both but most days I just use one. Either one will do. The Corrector is the one to use for discoloration. When I use both of these I’ll apply the serum corrector first, apply foundation, and then last apply the serum concealer. My makeup artist, with her wonderful touch, applied the corrector and then the concealer but I don’t necessarily have that magic touch.

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer in Porcelain and Corrector in Porcelain Bisque

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer in Porcelain and Corrector in Porcelain Bisque

Just looking at the concealer swatch it appears very yellow (lousy light on a rainy day) but it blends in perfectly. The correctors come in 20 different shades. If I had to pick just one of these I’d be depressed but I’d probably go with the corrector since it’s very brightening.

BRAVON HYDRATING DUAL ACTION CONCEALER

Bravon may not be a brand you’ve heard of often unless you read Gouldylox but I’m loving the brand. I first bought the foundation and came back for a second order. I am thrilled with this concealer. It’s only available in 8 shades but I think they cover the gamut pretty well. The concealer is only $17 which is a bargain these days. I purchased Ivory, the lightest shade.

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer

The dual action comes in since this is both a corrector and a concealer all wrapped in one terrific tube. My undereye area has gotten drier as time has progressed so I appreciate the hydration this provides. It’s easy to apply and I just need a little to cover up my insomnia circles. One thing that bothers me is when I can see my concealer bunched up in the tear duct area making my eyes look crepey. That doesn’t happen with this anti-aging formula.

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer

This is the concealer I can use anywhere on my face. It covers the redness under my nose perfectly and I’m sure it will cover blemishes or discoloration when needed.

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer in Ivory

Bravon Hydrating Dual Action Concealer in Ivory

Ivory is not this yellow, the lights in my bathroom are. This is just one of many Bravon products that I’ll be recommending to you over the next few months. Bravon is the name of the owner of the company and I’m proud to be recommending an independent company (aka indie) that is so terrific.

MAKE UP FOR EVER ULTRA HD INVISIBLE COVER CONCEALER is a little confusing but it quickly became a favorite. When you look on the Sephora site for this concealer you’ll find it mixed in with the correctors. So some shades will conceal while others say they’ll correct. That means I bought one of each! Available in 13 shades ($27) be sure you check to see which one you are buying. These are the only concealers that I keep in the box because I wrote myself a note to remind me which is which.

Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Concealer

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer

These skinny longer tubes have a great rounded tip (it became shy and didn’t want to be photographed) that you can actually use to apply the concealers. This too is a very silky smooth product since I find that’s what I need for my undereye area. It lasts very well and is easy to pat to smooth it out again if I see any creasing.

Instantly hide dark under eye circles with Ultra HD Concealer’s innovative range of concealers. Only a few drops are needed as a little goes a long way this formula. Featuring an Anti-Dark Circle Complex with Radiance Booster, this concealer support collagen to refresh and awaken the undereye area. Along with filling and smoothing fine lines, its lightweight formula is infused with Pure Focus Pigments that reflect light to erase shadows, while the hylauronic spheres prevents moisture loss. Available in 14 shades that cover all skintone needs, the Ultra HD Concealer features shades that are also perfect for color correcting. For an instantly flawless complexion, choose from the peach color correcting shades to neutralize dark circles—then, use a concealer shade to brighten the undereye area. Apply in thin layers for the most natural result—only a small amount is needed.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer R20 Correct, Y21 Conceal

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer R20 Correct, Y21 Conceal

Without the “correct” “conceal” words on Sephora’s site I wouldn’t have known what I was using. Like the Bobbi Brown I wear them alone or together. I’m such a rebel.

My concealer wardrobe has obviously grown and these newer additions have made it a better place to reside. Do you have a favorite? Be sure you read the posts from the other Makeup Wars ladies to see how we’re alike or different. —  Marcia

My favorite foundations for winter – Top 10 Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday has rolled around again and I’m excited to be sharing my favorites for foundation. I have more than on my list but just as important as my favorites are my two tools of choice so that took two spots. I purposely left out CC Creams even though I will use them in the winter but I wanted to stick with foundations for a change.

These are in no particular order. These are all sitting on my vanity right now! I may not be neat but I’m happy!!
1.
BOBBI BROWN INTENSIVE SKIN SERUM FOUNDATION is pretty new to me and pretty impressive too. It has SPF 40 in it and is available in 18 shades plus it’s very forgiving. I’ve been wanting a serum foundation and the one I bought from Armani a few years ago never felt right. The makeup artist I went to loves this foundation and gave me a sample. That brought me back to buy it. It’s very lightweight and you wouldn’t expect it to hide imperfections but it does. It feels great on my skin too.
2.
TOO FACED BORN THIS WAY ABSOLUTE PERFECTION FOUNDATION just moved into my house last week. I keep reading about it and Sephora F&F finally put me over the edge. I’ve worn it twice which really isn’t enough to put it on a list but both times I was quite happy with the way it looked and lasted. This $38 foundation comes in 18 shades and is oil-free. I love that it has ingredients to help with hydration (coconut water and hyaluronic acid are two).
3.
IT COSMETICS O2 O2 ULTRA REPAIR LIQUID OXYGEN FOUNDATION ($38) was my foundation favorite of the year for 2014 and remains a favorite 11 months later. I’m a huge fan of IT Cosmetics but with all brands some products are better than others. This is a ‘better than others’ foundation. Fair matches me perfectly but it only is available in 5 shades which might be a problem for some. One of the biggest reasons to love IT is their anti-aging ingredients (Peptides, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Niacin, Hyaluronic Acid and Grape Seed Oil plus Vitamins A, C, & E). This is actually a serum foundation which I didn’t realize until I was typing this up!!
4.
SENNA LASTING ILLUSION FOUNDATION* has been one that I’ve counted on for an airbrushed finish for almost two years. This is a fuller coverage than most of the others I own and there are many days and occasions that I crave that coverage. It’s a matte satin that reflects light away from imperfections. Senna isn’t talked about enough but in my opinion people are missing out on this great Hollywood indie brand. ($48, 7 shades)
5.
MALLY BEAUTY EFFORTLESS AIRBRUSH PERFECT SKIN MOUSSE is another foundation that people need to know about. One of the problems with Mally Beauty is that it’s hard to find – all the great places that carry the line only carry parts of Mally. This is only sold at Mally’s website and it’s worth it to shop there. The coverage with this mousse is perfection. I need so little but I could build it up if necessary. Plus it comes with a fabulous foundation brush that feels wonderful and works like a dream ($45*).
6.
GIORGIO ARMANI LUMINOUS SILK FOUNDATION – there are no words for this foundation. I’ve gone through 3 bottles since I started using it and I’m sure to go through more. It’s available in 23 shades and it’s worth every penny of the $62 cost to me. It’s weightless and oil-free and the coverage is like silk.
7.
RIMMEL LONDON LASTING FINISH FOUNDATION is the opposite in cost from Armani and not similar to it in finish, but it’s the best drugstore foundation I’ve ever bought. The problem with drugstores is being unable to test colors but I got lucky with O91 Light Ivory. At first I noticed a perfumey fragrance but once applied I noticed it for about 15 seconds and never again. If you are looking for great coverage to last through the day and you have $6.99 laying around, this is what to spend it on.
8.
GERI G INNOCENT FOUNDATION isn’t known at all. I just reviewed it again along with their Transceutical Canvas so I hope that this comes more to the forefront. It’s a medium coverage that can be built up. On the days I’m looking a little worse for the wear, I turn to this to make my skin look its best. The downside is that it only comes in 4 shades and the swatches on the website aren’t really helpful. ($38)
9.
BEAUTY BLENDER SPONGE is amazing. Don’t accept imitations. I don’t care that it’s $20 while others are much less, this is the one that works. It now comes in many colors like the new royal purple. The black one is called the Pro one but I don’t think it’s any different than my pink ones. Trust me when I tell you that this could change your makeup application.
10.
ARTIS OVAL 10 ELITE BRUSH* has become holy grail to me. It changes your paradigm about what a foundation brush is and you won’t want to look back. The softness, the bristles (2500 of them!), the ergonomics, and the luxuriousness of this $72 brush make it worth the high cost. If was told I could just take a few items out of my house this would be high up on the list. It’s that precious. Review here.

More BCA goodies: Bobbi Brown Pretty Pink Ribbon Lip Gloss Collection

The best makeover I ever had was by Bobbi Brown waaaay back in the day – like in the 1990’s.  Bobbi was at my local Neiman’s, and she was an absolute doll.  I bought every single thing she recommended for me, and Bobbi Brown has been a staple in my cosmetics stash ever since.

Bobbi Brown Pretty in Pink BCA Lip Gloss Set

Bobbi Brown Pretty Pink BCA Lip Gloss Set

Bobbi Brown Cosmetics sent us the new Pretty Pink Ribbon Lip Gloss Collection ($60), their ‘gloss for a cause’ set.  This is a limited edition set of four pink lip glosses, Pretty Pink Sheer Lip Gloss, Pink Tulle High Shimmer Lip Gloss; Pink Ribbon Lip Gloss and Soiree Pink Shimmer Lip Gloss, and for every sale Bobbi Brown donates $12 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Bobbi Brown BCA Pretty Pink Lip Gloss Set

Bobbi Brown BCA Pretty Pink Lip Gloss Set

The formula is quite emollient and includes vitamins C and E.  This gloss leaves lips feeling soft and hydrated, and has a minty taste.  They have a nice lip feel that isn’t sticky at all.  The wand has a doefoot applicator (remember when these had those terrible brushes that splayed immediately?), and these are about half the size of a regular lip gloss.   I actually really like this size for a lip gloss – I never seem to finish a regular size lip gloss before it starts to go bad.

Soiree Pink Shimmer Lip Gloss is a baby pink with light shimmer.  This is pretty sheer, but it sure gives a matte lip color lots of oomph with pearly pink shimmers.  This color is limited edition, made just for this collection.

Pink Ribbon Lip Gloss is a bright hot pink.  On the website this is called Bright Lilac Lip Gloss – they must have changed the name to be more aligned with the ‘Pretty Pink’ theme.  It’s the most pigmented shade and can definitely be worn by itself.  This is a limited edition color made just for this collection.

The Pretty Pink Ribbon Lip Gloss Set is indeed a pretty little set with a nice mix of shimmer and shiny lip glosses.  If you have pigmented lips, you can wear all four by themselves – if not, then you may want to layer them over color.  Pink Ribbon is the only one pigmented enough to wear by itself.  But they are all pretty, feminine shades that will make your lips happy and also help support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  – Lisa

Bobbi Brown Long Wear eyeshadow in Smoky Topaz review

Do you have certain words that are buying triggers? Unfortunately I do which is why I end up with similar shades over and over. With eyeshadow say the word “pewter” or “taupe” and you’ve got me. Even though I had a bad experience with my last Bobbi Brown Long Wear eyeshadow I still couldn’t resist buying one of their new Summer 2012 ones. There are 5 that came out in her new Long Wear collection:

Promo image from bobbibrowncosmetics.com

  • Velvet Plum – Rich shimmer bronze plum
  • Smoky Topaz –  Golden shimmer pewter
  • Cool Lilac –  Cool shimmer pink lilac
  • Berry Noir – Brown shimmer berry
  • Black Violet – Deep shimmer eggplant

You already know which one I bought since I gave it away. I only read the words “golden pewter” and the name “Smoky Topaz” and I hit that buy button instantly. I glossed over the word SHIMMER. Luckily this wasn’t a mistake though I’ll probably limit this to wearing it at night only. I like Smoky Topaz with its golden shimmer. Actually I’d love if they made a nail polish to match since it has the exact sparkle I love in my polishes.

Smoky Topaz Long Wear Cream Shadow

Bobbi Brown’s Smoky Topaz Long Wear Cream Eyeshadow ($24) has a wonderful texture. It’s much nicer than the ones I bought when this formula first came out. I find this to be much creamier and easier to work with. Unlike Antique Gold Metallic Long Wear Cream Eyeshadow  this has color and not just glitter. Smoky Topaz contains small particles of shimmer but they don’t end up on my face. They stay on my eyes with maybe a stray piece of shimmer on my face. I haven’t had creasing with this either even without an eyeshadow primer.

gorgeous shimmer particles

This is truly a long wear eyeshadow and will last all day on me so that’s a relief. The color is a little hard to describe since “pewter” can be almost any color from silver to blue gray to burnished gray to almost a charcoal gray. In general pewter isn’t shiny but has a more matte finish so the word pewter is a little off in Bobbi Brown’s description. Topaz on the other hand is often in the yellow gold family. Since the shimmer is in the gold family it fits well.

Smoky Topaz

swatch though it appears lighter on eyes

When removing this eyeshadow I don’t find that I end up with the shimmer on my face so that’s another plus. I’m afraid to go to the Bobbi Brown counter and test these out – I might just like them and another trigger like “bronze plum” might just seize my wallet. — Marcia

The latest from Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Le Metier, Guerlain, and Chantecaille

Marcia and I stopped by Neiman Marcus yesterday to get the latest news from our favorite MA, Kim McFadden.  While we were there, the fabulous Christine Wujczyk joined in and showed us all the latest and greatest from some terrific lines.

The first thing we looked at was the new Chanel Ombres Tissees Irridescent Effects Eyes in Beiges ($75), and Marcia and I squealed like school girls.  It is so gorgeous in person, pictures just don’t do it justice.

They did not have a tester just yet, so we weren’t able to swatch it.  The colors are so pretty, and it has a beautiful sparkly overlay.  We took tons of pics so you could see how it changes depending on the lighting.

The sparkle is an overlay, so once you use the top layer it’s gone.  It looks like it would be a very soft, pretty, but subtle color for eyes or cheeks once that overlay is gone.

After checking out Chanel, we wandered over to Bobbi Brown where there are a lot of exciting new products coming out.

Bobbi Brown has doubled the size of her lip glosses, replaced the awful applicator with a doe’s foot applicator, and only increased the price by one dollar!! These beauties are only $23.

Just look at all the gorgeous colors.  I am so excited about the improvements, I love Bobbi Brown lip gloss but I just hated the applicator and the tiny size.

She also has some truly beautiful mineral loose powder foundation out now.  Pictured above and below (very heavily swatched) is the color Light.

We found this foundation to be oh so silky and smooth, it’s really beautiful.  And no shiny bismuth in this baby.

The Bobbi Brown makeup artists are recommending the loose powder mineral foundation be applied with Bobbi’s face brush ($50).

We were very impressed with the Neiman Marcus exclusive, The Tailored Collection.  The brushes, palette, mascara, and bag all retail for only $100.

New at Le Metier de Beaute are two gorgeous nail polishes, Anatolia and Urban Dweller ($10).

I liked Anatolia best, and Marcia liked Urban Dweller.  Both of them are beautiful.

We are looking forward to the Le Metier skin care line release later this month!

Next stop – Guerlain.  They have some truly gorgeous new lipsticks and eyeshadow quads out now in their Fall 2011 collection.

Above are the testers for the Rouge G lipsticks ($47), and you can see the two bottom eyeshadow quads (Ecrin 4 Couleurs $59) as well.  I swatched some of the lipsticks, and they were so beautiful – pigmented but glossy, complex yet wearable colors.  I got all excited and swatched like crazy then forgot to write down which was which!  But here’s what they looked like:

And the eyeshadow quads were typical Guerlain fabulous.  Of course Marcia and I wanted every single one.  Here are some pics.

And finally, looking very pretty are the new berry colored lipsticks from Chantecaille.  These are the new colors in the Lip Chic Collection, Violetta and Calla Lily ($32).

The berry colors are perfect for the upcoming fall looks.

If you don’t have a Neimans nearby, don’t despair.  Just call Kim McFadden or Christine Wujczyk at 248-643-3300, extension 2104 and they would be thrilled to help you.  What new products are you most excited about?  – Lisa
