I stared at it for so long because I couldn’t believe the gorgeous shades it contained. As a fan of rose gold in my fashion and cosmetic life I was eager to receive this and the realization is better than I ever expected. The palette consists of 4 baked powder shades, 2 shiny highlighters, and 2 matte pressed powder shades for bronzing or blushing.

Numbers 1 through 4 are the ones I’m getting the most use out of. #1 is a soft warm pink, #2 is a beautiful swirly peach, #3 is a glowy light creamy peach, while #4 is a stunning glowy rose. These all feel like they are baked powders so they aren’t particular soft when you touch them with your fingers but they apply beautifully with any brush I’ve used.

Now comes the variety since I like to mix and match all the shades in the palette. I like to layer these and as I’m typing this out I’m wearing number 1 and 7 as my cheek color.

#5 is a simply amazing gold that makes a fabulous highlighter. Plus I wear this on my eyes. This is very soft and it doesn’t take a lot to get a glowy yellow gold that is so striking. #6 is the only one that has any glitter to it and even then the glitter isn’t overwhelming. #6 is the one that gives this palette its Rose Gold name. It’s not subtle on me but it is gorgeous.

#7 is so soft to the touch, I find it to be mauve on me but I think different skin tones will pick this up differently. I consider this a bronzer but that’s because I don’t wear brown bronzers. #8 is the brownest shade in the palette but it’s such a light shade on me that it’s perfect.

There is so much diversity in this palette that it will keep you blushing and glowing through fall and beyond. The best part is that it’s $10 – that’s it – just $10 for 8 colors!

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Ultra Blush Palette and Chauffeur lipstick

We can’t stop with just blush when we know that there are 5 lipsticks in this Rose Gold collection. 5 for the price of $5 each. 5 creamy, smooth, pigmented, non-fragranced lipsticks! I have Chauffeur which is ideal for my taste and there’s also Red Carpet (red), Private Members Club (black), Diamond Life (chocolate), and Girl’s Best Friend (bright pink).

Makeup Revolution Chauffeur Lipstick

Makeup Revolution Chauffeur Lipstick

Chauffeur is a rose nude I can wrap my head around – actually wrap my lips around. It’s not deathly pale but it’s light. I look like I’m wearing lipstick when it’s on. If I want to deepen it then I’ll use a lipliner all over which also assists the lipstick in lasting for a longer time. The packaging of the Rose Gold collection is contemporary and rich looking. No one would expect this to be as well priced as it is.

Paula’s Choice Blush It On Contour Palette review and swatches

Paula's Choice Blush It On Contour Palette

Paula’s Choice Blush It On Contour Palette

I probably recommend the Paula’s Choice line more than any other, but honestly mostly for skin care. I have had a love/hate relationship with her color cosmetics. Cream Concealer? Not for me. Foundation? None of them are my favorites. Lip gloss? Nothing special.  Some of the color cosmetics are fantastic though – love love love the Bright & Berry Lip Collection, Brow Defining Cream, and Eyeshadow Palette.

I recently placed an order for about 10 of the Gentle Touch Makeup Remover – it’s so good I get anxious when I am down to five bottles! – and at the last-minute decided to add in the Blush It On Contour Palette. This is Limited Edition and costs $36. I was a bit uneasy spending that amount when I haven’t loved Paula’s blushes in the past, but I am happy I took the plunge and I’ll bet you might want to invest after reading my review.

Paula’s Choice Blush It On Contour Palette:  top row left to right – Pearl, Delicate Coral, Peony; bottom row left to right:  Bronze, Dusty Rose, Soft Mauve

Prior incarnations of blush from Paula didn’t do much for me. They just weren’t pigmented enough and didn’t last on my blush-eating skin. However, this palette is a wonderful improvement from the previous blush formulas. The Blush It On Contour Palette has six shades for highlighting, contouring, and blushing like a school girl. The formula is silky smooth, blends in beautifully, and has a satin matte finish. The colors are long-wearing with minimal fading, and they don’t oxidize throughout the day.

The highlighting shade is Pearl, which swatches pretty dramatic but has a beautiful, glowy effect on that looks very natural. Paula is typically anti-shimmer yet pro-luminescence, and this highlighter definitely delivers. I love it on the tops of my cheekbones for a youthful glow, as well as down the center of my nose with the Bronze shade lightly brushed down the sides to give a ‘thinning out’ effect.

Delicate Coral is a very pretty coral shade that is gorgeous on warm skin tones and deeper skin shades. I love this when I have faux-tanned my skin into the medium range; it looks like summertime and sandy beaches to me.

Peony is a very pretty medium pink without shimmer. It is a perfect everyday shade for work, and it layers nicely for a more dramatic evening look.

Paula’s Choice Blush It On Contour Palette left to right:  Bronze, Soft Rose, Dusty Mauve

Moving on down to the bottom row, Bronze provides the ‘contour’ in the palette name. This is a soft but versatile contour/bronzer. I like that it’s matte – I think too much sparkle and shimmer ruins some otherwise terrific contour products. I love this just underneath my blush to give my cheekbones more definition and, as I mentioned, it’s awesome paired with Pearl for thinning out the nose.

Soft Rose is a light pink that pale complexions will adore. It’s probably too light for any skin tone darker than medium, but this is a great ballerina pink that is just tad bit peachy.

Dusty Mauve is my favorite of the blush shades. It’s a deeper berry pink that might be a tad too dark for you pale princesses, but is amazing on any shade darker than porcelain. It’s the most dramatic of the shades so go easy with it and build up to the color you want.

If I had my druthers, I would love for Paula to add two more shades to this palette – one more highlighter with less pink tint and more sheen, and one more bronzer in a deeper shade. But that’s really nitpicking.

While none of the colors are dramatic, they all give beautiful, natural washes of color that last all day. This is a great workhorse palette that you will find yourself reaching for time and time again. If you haven’t ordered from Paula’s Choice before, I have a code for $10 off your first order, just click HERE.  If you are looking for a great new blush palette I highly recommend this one – get it before it’s gone.  – Lisa

Makeup Wars – favorite blush of 2014

Tarina Tarantino Parasol blush

Tarina Tarantino Parasol blush

When Makeup Wars decided to make our first post of 2015 a favorite blush it took me absolutely no time to know what I’d choose. Tarina Tanantino Dollskin Parasol blush instantly came to mind. I reach for this all the time. And I love it so much that when Hautelook carried Tarina Tarantino I had to buy their Dollskin Cheek Blush Palette.

PARASOL is a perfect shade for me. I can wear it with everything but the coolest tones of eyeshadow or lipstick. Therefore I wear it often. PARASOL is described as “shimmering bright pink coral”. It’s got pink, it’s got coral, it has it all.

This totally livens up my skin making me feel like I look healthy once again. It’s VERY pigmented so you need to use the lightest touch. Use a soft brush and a light touch since you can always add more – but you won’t need to. This is heaven for me. It’s smooth and long lasting and the color is true gorgeousness.

DOLLSKIN CHEEK BLUSH PALETTE contains 4 of the 5 blush shades that Tarina Tarantino makes. It’s perfect for on the go because you have every shade you’d need, especially on a trip.  This formula has micronized powders (also known as “HD” or “High Definition”) which blend over skin evenly and allow for build up.

Shades are  Candy Cameo (shimmering light pink), Feather (shimmering peach), Carved Rose (cool vivid pink) and Parasol.

The first arm shade, Candy Cameo, is a light peach on my skin and while the two pink/rose blushes look similar there is a difference on my skin. The palette sells for $45 while a single sells for $25 so there’s a big savings if you go for the palette. I tend to wear Parasol alone more often though because it’s earned the award of the best powder blush I’ve used in 2014.

What is your favorite blush? Do you have any Tarina Tarantino yet? (If not what are you waiting for!!). Join the other blushing beauties in Makeup Wars and happy 2015. — Marcia

It’s time to put Frankie Rose Cosmetics in your shopping cart

Frankie Rose

Frankie Rose

You need to remember the name Frankie Rose Cosmetics. If the products that Lisa and I had an opportunity to try out are any indication then this line is one that will be well known once the word gets out.

Frankie Rose Cosmetics is a brand new company created by professional makeup artists. It’s a group of women who work with cosmetics every day and know what works best on other women. They are aware of what a woman is looking for in terms of color, texture and finish. Lisa reviewed lip products and eyeshadows that look absolutely amazing. She talks about this line to me all the time. I’ve got the pleasure now of reviewing Frankie Rose blush.

Frankie Rose 3 shade blush palette

Frankie Rose 3 shade blush palette

Frankie Rose created blush palettes with 3 shades ($35) as well as single blush ($17). There are currently 2 blush palettes: Ravish and Enchant. The palettes are set up to help you blush, highlight and contour. The 12 single blushes run the gamut of colors from subtle and neutral to sexy and delicious.

I’ve got Enchant which is the warmer of the two palettes. I love the name and feel it’s fitting since the palette has definitely enchanted me.

Canyon Spice and Starburst can both be purchased separately. I don’t think the website’s swatches are perfect since they are so much more gorgeous in person and on my skin. They both have a light shimmery look but once on your cheeks they aren’t shimmery – but they do glow. They have a finish that’s hard to describe but beautiful to look at.

Enchant blush palette: Chestnut, Starburst, and Canyon Spice swatches

Chestnut isn’t sold separately. It’s a light matte contour shade. With some contours you can see the color so it doesn’t look natural. I’m no expert on contouring so I need something subtle like this when I attempt it.

Enchant from top: Chestnut, Starburst, Canyon Spice

Enchant from top: Chestnut, Starburst, Canyon Spice

I’m totally in love with Starburst. It’s the most beautiful pinky peach shade (it actually looks more like the shade called Peachy Pink in the singles than it does like Starburst). I’m finding myself reaching for Starburst or a combination of Starburst and Canyon Spice almost every day.

Frankie Rose Starburst from the palette

As beautiful as these colors are (and they are beautiful) it’s important to know about quality and longevity. Frankie Rose made sure of both of those. These blushes last me the day. I almost never have to touch them up which is pretty amazing. I often talk about cream blush because they seem to last longer on me but Frankie Rose Cosmetics is proving that a great powder blush needs to be in my regime too.

I’m as excited about this line as my blog partner Lisa is and it’s exciting to end my 2013 reviews with a company and product I’m thrilled to be introducing to you too. — Marcia

Top Ten Tuesdays returns with palettes we love

Top Ten Beauty always brings a bit of anxiety. What if I leave something out? What if I put something in and then change my mind? What if when I read all the other posts I see something that makes me slap my face and wonder why I haven’t use that in so long?
I’ve picked 9 palettes that I use all the the time and rely on plus one major wishlist palette.
1. Marc Jacobs The Starlet – I’m sure this surprises absolutely no one who has read Beauty Info Zone. I’m crazy about The Starlet (and The Vamp) and think this line was a great addition to the makeup world. Marc Jacobs takes me from my typical staid and brings out the makeup artist I used to be.
2. Sephora+Pantone Universal Precious Metals Shadow Palette – this wasn’t a very popular palette but I love it and pull it out all the time. The shadows are a mix of quality but in general they are well pigmented. There are so many shades I can count on when I need a certain “something”. Unfortunately it’s discontinued but things do pop up occasionally.
3. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette – this is new to me and it’s so wonderful. I resisted the individual Ambient Light singles because I just couldn’t decide. Now I have three so I’m glad I waited before purchasing any.
4. Le Metier de Beaute Blush Kaleidoscope – this is the only blush palette that I use. I use blush every day but the only palette. I usually wear one or two shades at a time with it. It’s great for travel since I’ve got enough variety to keep me happy.
5. Kat Von D True Romance palette in Saint – If you notice I didn’t put any of my Urban Decay Naked palettes even though I have them all. When I want those types of shades I pull out the Kat Von D instead. Of the 8 shades, I wear 6 of them often.
6. TheBalm Shady Lady Volume Three – I could just as easily have picked Volume Two or Balm Jovi or Nude ‘tude since I like all of them. Watch out on Hautelook for TheBalm sales since they have outstanding prices on this brand. It’s the green shade in Volume Three that gets me going.
7.  Dior Bonne Etoile – This is almost too pretty to use. I hate that this was a limited edition because it sold out quickly. I bought both Constellation (purples) and Bonne Etoile (green and brown) but never got around to reviewing them, now it’s too late. But if you can get your hands on either, go for it. Beautifully pigmented, great combinations, stellar design and quality.
8. Too Faced Boudoir Eyes – Too Faced is an eyeshadow lover’s dream and nightmare. They keep coming out with beautiful palettes that I think I can’t live without. Boudoir Eyes is a great neutral palette that I reviewed on Blushing Beauty if you care to read about it.
9.  Bare Minerals The Scenic Route – This is technically not a palette since it just has two shadows but oh what shadows they are. This is my favorite green eyeshadow and I really needed to include it in this post. I don’t wear white shadow often but it just works with the green.
10. Serge Lutens Nude Lip Palette – My wishlist item. I labored over buying this during Barney’s last Beauty Event but the $140 price stopped me in my tracks. I’m still lusting over it but I just don’t imagine myself using it enough to justify that kind of money. Now if my husband gets me mad enough some day —- you never know!!
Thank you for reading my Top Ten Palettes. I’d recommend every one of these. I bought all of these (except Serge) and don’t regret these purchases at all. Any you like or own? — Marcia
