Does BB stand for Burt’s Bees or Beauty Balm? Maybe it’s both with Burt’s Bees BB Cream

We’re always talking about weather around here but that’s because our cosmetic life is so dependent on it. I like some products year round while others are best for me during one or more of the 4 seasons. The newest addition to my summer makeup wardrobe is a new product from Burt’s Bees that was recently sent, Burt’s Bees BB Cream.

Burt's Bees BB Cream

Burt’s Bees BB Cream

This BB Cream is like going to a one-stop shop since it has everything I need for sweet summer days. There are 9 benefits in this one handy tube:

  • protects with Broad Spectrum SPF 15
  • moisturizes
  • smoothes
  • visibly firms
  • illuminates
  • evens tone
  • conceals
  • reduce looks of fine lines and wrinkles
  • perfects skin

Burt’s Bees BB Cream

The first thing I noticed when applying the BB Cream is the refreshing orange fragrance it has. If you know me then you know I’m always looking for fragrance free products but this Burt’s Bees product is the exception to the rule. It starts with this great scent that dissipates but I’d be happy if it stuck around. This BB Cream comes in 3 shades: Light, Light/Medium, and Medium. That means it’s limited to only some skin tones.

Burt's Bees BB Cream in Light/Medium

Burt’s Bees BB Cream in Light/Med

Light/Med is more yellow than I would normally choose so when I tested it on my hand for photos I was sure it wouldn’t work for me. But the surprise is on me since it adjusts within a minute to my skin and looks natural on me. I’m not washed out when wearing it.

Burt's Bees BB Cream in Light/Med

Burt’s Bees BB Cream in Light/Med

One aspect of this that is a plus is that this dries very quickly on my face. I don’t want to use a finishing powder in the summer since the less layers the better. I can use a powder blush after a few minutes without it sticking in places. The blush will apply smoothly and hold. With an SPF of 15 it’s fine if I’m staying in for the day with maybe an occasional trip to the market but for a full day of being out and about I apply a higher SPF sunscreen separately. The good news about the sunscreen in this though is that the ingredients are physical blockers so they are less irritating on your skin than a chemical sunscreen would be.

Burt’s Bees did a great job with their newest product. At $15 it’s not the least expensive option out there but to me it’s the most trusted. Plus there are always great drugstore sales going on. Enjoy your summer skin with Burt’s Bees.  —  Marcia

Flawless skin with Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact

hydroxatone

One of the easiest ways to apply foundation is with the new cushion compacts. Hydroxatone, known for their skin care, has taken that knowledge and combined it with their BB Cream to bring us a buildable BB Cream with Broad Spectrum SPF Sunscreen.

Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact

Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact

Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact contains some key ingredients that make this stand out from the cushion crowd.

Key Ingredients:

    • Rose Water – a water obtained by a Rosa Centifolia Flower distillation which supports restoration and maintenance of skin’s pH balance and keeps skin hydrated.
    • Matrixyl 3000 – a peptide blend that has a visible anti-wrinkling and lifting effect. It supports the skin’s natural restructuring and tissue repair through extracellular matrix renewal.
    • SymGlucan– an oat-derived natural ingredient that helps maintain healthy skin.
    • Sodium Hyaluronate – a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan which is a major constituent of the extracellular matrix and is important for cellular protection, osoregulation and moisturization, metabolic function and restoring skin’s elasticity.

Beauty Info Zone was sent two of the three available shades to test and share our findings with you. Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact is available online at ULTA, as well as Beauty.com and Kohls.com for $49 which includes the compact and a sealed refill.

MARCIA WEARS LIGHT

I’ve been a fan of BB Creams since I first learned about them. I don’t like heavy coverage on my aging skin. I’m looking for light to medium coverage at best. Hydroxatone’s Air Cushion Compact fits my needs perfectly for this. It’s easy to use, has great sunscreen with broad spectrum SPF40, and can be built up.

Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact new

Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact new

Normally a foundation that only comes in 3 shades isn’t going to be light enough for my pale skin but surprisingly Hydroxatone is. The Light is ultra light. I couldn’t get it to show up in my swatch for you, that’s how light it is.

Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact used

For every day I pat this on with the included applicator lightly and go about my business knowing I’ve evened out my skin. When I’m going to be in closer contact with people I’ll apply concealer under my eyes and nose prior to application. The soft cushiony applicator it comes with doesn’t remove my concealer when using it to apply the BB Cream. I like to build it up to slightly less than a medium coverage and I’m good to go.

Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact in light

The cherry on top of the pie for Hydroxatone’s Air Cushion Compact is that there’s basically no fragrance for this. At first I notice a little bit of citrus and even that dissipates quickly for this scent sensitive blogger.

LISA WEARS MEDIUM

Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting AirCushion Compact

Marcia has beautiful porcelain skin, but mine is freckled with uneven patches so I typically like more coverage than she does. I didn’t think the Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting AirCushion Compact would give enough coverage for my preferences, but it really is buildable and does semi-full coverage as well as it does sheer.

The medium shade looks waaay darker on the sponge that it does on the skin. It’s actually a pretty versatile medium shade that will work for light to medium skin tones. I have to admit I wasn’t sold on sponge compact foundations at first, but now I love them – especially for traveling. You can see that my compact actually leaked a little but the sponge and the compact kept it from getting outside of the package.

I use my Doll10 Rotating Foundation Brush on top of the sponge and it picks up the perfect amount of foundation. I just do an extra pass over uneven areas for more coverage. I find that in general, sponge foundation compacts don’t last as long as liquid foundation, so I was happy that a refill is included in the box.

You can still see my freckles but the uneven tone is gone. I also find that this foundation wears extremely well. Usually by the end of the day my foundation is mostly gone, but this one is mostly there.

With all the pluses – buildable coverage, skin friendly ingredients, wearable shades, and a travel friendly packaging – we think the Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting AirCushion Compact is a winner. It’s definitely a sponge-worthy foundation!

The ‘total package’ – Mally Face Defender BB Cream and Foundation Brush

Mally Face Defender BB Cream

Mally Face Defender BB Cream

I love many products from Mally Beauty, but the Face Defender BB Cream Foundation and Foundation Brush combo is definitely my favorite. In fact, just yesterday one of my coworkers asked me which foundation I would recommend for her as she transitions into winter makeup and I said, without any hesitation, Mally Face Defender BB Cream! It does everything from treating to priming to covering and the brush is truly terrific.

Mally Face Defender BB Cream in Medium Light

Mally Face Defender BB Cream in Medium Light

A great big 1.8 ounce tube of Face Defender BB Cream Foundation and the foundation brush are available as a set on QVC for $45 you can find it HERE. The tube is large enough to last until spring, especially since you only need a small amount of BB cream for great coverage.

To be perfectly honest, when I use my Face Defender BB Cream Foundation I still use a primer, a concealer, and a setting powder. I can’t help myself…playing with cosmetics is therapy for me. The beauty of Face Defender is that if you aren’t a high maintenance person, or if you have limited time and need the biggest bang for your buck, this BB cream really does do everything. It has antioxidants so it works as a treatment serum/moisturizer. It has an SPF of 15 so it works as sun protection. It’s full coverage enough so most people won’t need a concealer and it doesn’t look heavy or cakey on skin. It has a beautiful, glowy finish that really only needs modest powdering throughout the day for an oily t-zone.

Mally Foundation Brush

Mally Foundation Brush

I absolutely adore the Foundation Brush, which gets second billing but is truly a star all on its own. I squeeze a tiny bit of Face Defender right onto the flat side of the brush then buff it on using a circular motion. This brush blends so beautifully that it is a must have for any brush collection.

Wearing Mally Face Defender BB Cream

Wearing Mally Face Defender BB Cream

For this photo I first applied a spritz of Skindinavia Makeup Spray Primer, then I used the Foundation Brush to apply my Face Defender. I also used Mally Dark Circle Corrector (another of my Mally obsessions!), a little face powder, and the Mally Shimmer, Shape, and Glow palette for blush and contour. There have been many days when I just used the Face Defender because I simply didn’t have time for anything else…and with a swipe of lipstick on my lips and cheeks, I certainly had everything I needed to make it through the day.

The Face Defender BB Cream Foundation comes in Fair, Light Medium Light, Medium Tan, Tan, Warm Rich, and Rich. This is my favorite BB cream foundation and I highly recommend a visit to QVC to get this set…it’s the total package.  – Lisa

Pacifica is Alight with their BB cream and Purify Coconut Wipes (and giveaway)

Pacifica Alright BB Cream and Purify Coconut Water

Pacifica Alright BB Cream and Purify Coconut Water

Did we hear you say Vegan? Did we hear you say cruelty-free? If we heard you right then you need to know about PACIFICA. We learned about them when they sent the products you see above for us and enough for two of our readers to win.

What you need to know about PACIFICA is that they have a goal to serve women by meeting their needs. They consider animals too when they create products that are 100% vegan, cruelty-free and certified by PETA. Since the planet is so important to their company they use recyclable materials, sustainable ingredients and help create less waste.

Today we’re going to share two products with you so that you can learn more about the brand.

MARCIA’S SIDEALIGHT MULTI-MINERAL BB CREAM

ALIGHT Multi-Mineral BB Cream

ALIGHT Multi-Mineral BB Cream

Pacifica’s Alight BB Cream is made in one shade that contains special mineralized pigments that helps it adapt to different skintones. It’s a very lightweight cream that is both brightening and luminizing.

PACIFICA ALIGHT

PACIFICA ALIGHT

Alight Multi-Mineral BB Cream contains ingredients that will help the signs of aging like fine lines, pores and uneven skintone. The main ingredients are Jojoba Esters which are known to increase moisture and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, Sweet Iris Leaf Cell Extract to help cell repair, Damascus Rose Leaf Cell Extract which helps firm and tighten, Coconut Water to promote elasticity and helps prevent sagging,  Kelp Extract for circulation and Hyaluronic Acid for hydration.

ALIGHT Multi-Mineral BB Cream

ALIGHT Multi-Mineral BB Cream

As you can see this is a very sheer finish so that it will help you maintain a dewy, radiant bare finish. Even though the color is supposed to adapt to your skintone it only works for most people not all. I can wear this sometimes because it does adapt but not perfectly. But I have one of the lightest skintones so I’m pretty sure it will be better on those who are more light/medium and medium. If I mix this with my SPF it lightens up and becomes more natural looking on me. I can wear it to run around during the day but not if I want more coverage.

Alight is only $16 which is a terrific price for a BB Cream. It’s sold on Pacifica’s Website as well as at Target.

LISA’S SIDE: PURIFY COCONUT WATER CLEANSING WIPES

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes

I have a ‘thing’ for cleansing wipes. I have a package in every bathroom, plus I always keep a pack at work, too. Really good ones are indispensible…they are perfect when I am too lazy to wash my face at night. They instantly cure makeup ‘oops’ like too much blush or obnoxious lipstick. And let’s not forget the necessity of a ‘Queens bath’ when that alarm doesn’t go off so there are only five minutes available to get ready for work!

Pacifica Purify Cleansing WipesPacifica Purify Coconut Cleansing Wipes

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes are wonderful. They smell of delicious coconut. They gently clean whatever needs to be cleaned, removing oil, makeup, and dirt with ease. Ingredients include papaya for exfoliation, aloe vera for calming skin, and calendula as a soothing anti-inflammatory.

Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes are $8 at Target, and I also found them for $6 on the Pacifica website.  Definitely affordable and worth having a pack in every bathroom!

GIVEAWAY INFORMATION: Two lucky winners will receive both of these products in their package. You don’t even have to choose! You’ll have the experience to test them out yourself and see how nicely they work. This is open to US and Canadian subscribers through April 20, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. EST. If the comments close before the giveaway is over the solution is to email me with your comment at [email protected], label it Pacifica, click “I commented” and proceed to whichever options you want to use for more entries. Beyond beauty, sheer science: DNA RENEWAL SHEER DEFENSE

DNA logoHere at Beauty Info Zone, we are all about products that multi-task. So the prospect of testing the DNAEGF Renewal line always has us thrilled. This line addresses the past, present, and future! Dr. Ronald L. Moy created it based upon two scientific breakthroughs: plant-based Barley Epidermal Growth Factor and DNA Repair Enzymes. His products not only restore damaged skin, they also protect it from any more damage. The products are also made to work fast, creating a very visible difference within months.

For this go-round with DNA EGF, we tried their version of BB Cream – the DNA Sheer Defense Medium ($65).

DNA in Sheer Medium

DNA in Sheer Medium

Lisa’s Side:

I tried out the DNA Sheer Defense Medium. I am not one to often reach for BB or CC Creams because they typically don’t offer much in terms of coverage, but this one does a really nice job. Plus, it does so many other things I almost feel guilty not using it!

DNA Intense Moisturizer in Sheer Medium

3 in 1 BB DNA Repair Cream in Sheer Medium

This is a creamy fluid that provides sheer to medium coverage. I find it goes on very silky and definitely smooths out skin texture and skin tone. The medium shade is actually a little light on me and my skin is somewhere in between light and medium. I use this by itself on weekends and during the week I use it as a tinted primer. What I really love about it is that is has an SPF of 50+ and protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Plus it also has DNA Repair Enzymes to fight the good fight against any damage that my skin has already suffered.

Looks like a test tube...

Looks like a test tube…

DNA Intense Moisturizer

My only gripe about this great product is the packaging. The bottle is designed to look like a test tube, which is cool, but…it makes it difficult to store. So I kept the box and just keep it in that, and problem solved. Overall, though, I would say this is a real winner.

DNA in Sheer Light

DNA in Sheer Light

Marcia’s Side:

I rarely finish anything other than mascara and cleansers. It’s the nature of blogging that you move on after 30 days of testing to another product. But when I reviewed DNA EGF in 2011 and 2012 I actually got to the bottom of the tubes. Receiving this 3-IN-1 BB-DNA Sheer Defense Light that contains the same skincare ingredients as the others has been a pleasure.

3 in 1 BB DNA Repair Cream in Sheer Light

3 in 1 BB DNA Repair Cream in Sheer Light

This is an all inclusive, broad-spectrum skin protectant with active DNA repair enzymes that attack damaged skin cells. Since I have skin damage, from years of no sun protection, I know it’s important for me to use a sunscreen. DNA Intense Moisturizer uses ingredients that absorb and block the broad spectrum of damaging UV rays.

I find this to be a very light and sheer coverage. I’m the opposite of Lisa and use it alone many weekdays yet on weekends I’ll use it mixed with other foundation to give myself more coverage. (I also love the packaging because it stands out from the crowd.) Reasons I like using this include the fact that it has no fragrance and it’s never heavy or greasy feeling.

This skincare based BB Cream can be found online at the DNA Renewal website for $65. As much as I enjoy using it now, I know that in the summer it’s going to be an even better find for me.

INGREDIENT BENEFITS:

DNA REPAIR ENZYMES: Engineered from marine and botanical sources, these powerful enzymes intensify skin’s ability to repair and defend cellular DNA by stimulating the recognition and elimination of damaged DNA. They have also shown to improve the thin skin around the eye area for a more youthful contour.

Zinc Oxide: Micro-fine physical sunscreen that easily disperses and absorbs into skin to provide sheer (no whitening), high-performance protection from harmful UVA & UVB light.

Vitamin E and Vitamin A: These vitamins provide the skin with additional antioxidant protection against damage from free radicals.

Broad Spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays.

Makeup Wars – heavenly foundations

makeup-wars.jpg~original

This week the Makeup War bloggers have decided to take on foundations again. It’s not a new subject for us, or any bloggers, but since we are such fickle pickles most of us change our minds more often than the typical pickle. I have a box filled (or overfilled) with foundation, BB Cream and CC Cream. Choosing which to share was actually easier than I thought since I looked at my vanity and saw 6 bottles and tubes that I’d been switching between for the last several months. So that’s what you see here (along with my laundry room!).

Makeup Wars Heavenly Foundation picks February 2014 @beautyinfozone

Makeup Wars Heavenly Foundation picks February 2014 @beautyinfozone

There are 3 foundations that have been in heavy rotation. These are the items I’ve used the most in January especially.

Makeup Wars foundations: Senna Lasting Illusion, Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Revitalizing Foundation, Lancome Teint Miracle

Makeup Wars foundations: Senna Lasting Illusion, Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Revitalizing Foundation, Lancome Teint Miracle

Senna Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation – I recently reviewed this and to be honest it’s been on my face almost constantly the last few weeks. I’m crazy about the finish of this foundation. It’s the fullest of the three I’m sharing but it’s not so full that it’s mask-like. It covers my imperfections beautifully and lasts wonderfully even in the harsh weather we’ve had in Michigan. I can’t get over how much I like it. I have new items to review but I don’t want to put this away.

Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Revitalizing Foundation – I need to write a review of this soon. This is the lightest weight, sheerest of the foundations shown but some days that’s exactly what I need. You can build this up to give a fuller coverage though. It’s a beautiful luminizing finish. It comes in 6 shades and it’s only $14.99.

Lancome Teint Miracle – I’ve had this particular bottle at least 3 years but it’s just as good as ever. I know some people wouldn’t keep it that long but as a blogger I am constantly switching and testing. Yet I come back to Teint Miracle often. If I’m asked about Lancome this is what I recommend too. It’s available in an amazing 31 shades so there’s something for everyone here. When I first reviewed it (January 2012) it was available in 16 shades. They’ve since doubled the amount of shades and raised the price $6. I will most likely rebuy this with the right gwp some day.

Makeup Wars Foundations - CC Cream version with It Cosmetics, Kate Somerville Illumikate CC, Pur Minerals

Makeup Wars Foundations – CC Cream version with It Cosmetics, Kate Somerville Illumikate CC, Pur Minerals

My BB creams are all put away for now but 3 of the CC Creams I have are still playing a big part in my rotation. I use these often when I’m in a hurry because they contain skincare elements and SPF but I also use them because I love the finish of them.

IT Cosmetics Your Skin but Better CC+ Cream has been mentioned by me so often that you are probably tired of the repetition. But when something is this good, it’s worth me telling you over and over. As much as I love this brand and want to recommend it all to you, this is my absolute favorite product from them. This fickle pickle has told you other products were her favorite but this is the true favorite. When I first reviewed it was summer, now it’s winter and it’s still just as wonderful.

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream is my newest CC Cream and it’s another winner. This only comes in 4 shades though. I was sent this in Fair to review but it’s still a little dark. The solution for me is to take some of my tarte maracuja concealer and mix them, about 1/3 concealer to 2/3 IllumiKate. That color works and I have this beautiful glow that has SPF 50. Look for a full review very soon on this.

Pur Minerals CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is another favorite that works for me year round. I’ve worn this in all seasons except spring and my skin loves it in all of those seasons. The consistency is mousse-like and spreads so easily.

This fickle pickle is officially declaring these 6 products her favorite foundation picks. But don’t be surprised to hear of more later though since I have a few more products to review for you. Fickleness can be delightful!! Have you worn any of these 6? If not which would you most want to try? — Marcia

Please read what these other lovely ladies have decided to share with us. Sharing is caring!
