Le Petit Marseillais

If you are dreaming about a trip to France and a luxurious vacation then Le Petit Marseillais has the next best thing. It won’t cost you hundreds for an airline ticket and expensive hotel though you won’t be staying in any specific arrondissement, but you will have the comfort and privacy of your own bathroom.

Le Petit Marseillais is a long time French bath and body brand that has finally launched in the US and for $4.99 (14 oz size) to $6.49 (22 oz size). You want to know about this amazing smelling, nutrient rich brand. As many of you know when we started this blog almost 7 years ago I was a total fragrance phobe. I wanted nothing to do with anything fragranced so that was usually the provence of my blog partner. She helped me get over my fear of fragrance and I now appreciate certain scents to the point of even craving them.

Le Petit Marseillas Orange Blossom and White Peach & Nectarine

Le Petit Marseillas Orange Blossom and White Peach & Nectarine

Le Petit Marseillais™ has fragrances I not only can tolerate but the two I was sent are addicting to me. Their bath washes are available in 5 scents: Orange Blossom, Vanilla Milk, White Peach & Nectarine, Lavender Honey, and Cotton Milk & Poppy.

Let’s get a little background on this new to us brand:

  1. It was founded by Bernard Lengellé after being in Marseilles and being captivated by the smell of the “region’s fragrant artisan soap made with local olive oil.”
  2. Le Petit Marseillais™ uses ingredients found in sunny Provence so they are local and pure.
  3. They call their line sunkissed and when you read the ingredient list you can see why.

Considering that the brand is manufactured in France and uses these wonderful fragrances it’s a surprise that it’s so wonderfully priced.

Le Petit Marsailleis White Peach & Nectarine Shower Gel

Le Petit Marseilleis White Peach & Nectarine Shower Gel

Le Petit Marseilleis White Peach & Nectarine Shower Gel is the most amazing aromatic body wash. The fragrance is so true to life that I don’t want to leave my shower. They happened to choose the 2 summer pitted fruits that I eat all the time.

The gel creates a fabulous lather that feels moisturizing and leaves my skin refreshed. I don’t think it interferes with other fragrances although I’m not an expert on that since I don’t wear perfume. All I know is that I love it and love what I’ve learned from Le Petit Marsailleis about the ingredients.

White Peach is a summer fruit made up of 87% water, making it exceptionally refreshing. Because it contains so many vitamins (B, C, E) and antioxidants, peaches are used in many cosmetic facials for their softening, revitalizing and toning properties.

Juicy nectarines are full of antioxidants and Vitamin C, which have tonifying properties.

Le Petit Marseillais Orange Blossom Shower Cream

Le Petit Marseillais Orange Blossom Shower Cream

As a huge fan of citrus scents I was very happy to use the Orange Blossom Shower Cream. It’s a sweet orange aroma, not tart, and smells like you’d expect an orange blossom on the tree to smell like. I was also interested when I saw that the formula is a cream compared to the gel of the White Peach & Nectarine (the only gel available).

Le Petit Marseillas Orange Blossom Shower Cream

I actually didn’t find much of a difference between the two formulas though as far as how they operate. Both are moisturizing, both smell heavenly, and both get me comfortably clean. The Shower Cream is thicker so I probably use less of it than the gel. But I don’t have a preference as far as which to use.

Orange Blossom is a sweet, white flower that grows alongside oranges. The essential oil of orange blossom is known for its relaxing effects.

I think the main thing is to go by the fragrance that sounds most enticing to you. If you pick Cotton Milk & Poppy you’ll find these benefits:

Cotton is a plant valued for its soft and silky side. Cotton plant milk is rich in lipids, and is known for its health benefits. The extract of cotton flower is known for its soothing properties. The poppy is a vibrant and intense red flower that brightens the meadows of Provence from May to September. Our poppy is handpicked in the sunny Mediterranean from organic farms.

If your choice is Lavender Honey here’s what you’ll be enjoying:

Lavender is the quintessential flower of Provence. This plant generously perfumes the region from June to August, and is used for its relaxing properties.  While it may be known for its sweetness, honey has many skin benefits. It’s known for its moisturizing and soothing properties that help promote a healthy skin complexion. It’s also full of antioxidants, which helps keep skin looking youthful.

Or if Vanilla Milk is your thing then …

Vanilla is the fruit of an orchid and is found in the form of long pods containing tiny seeds. It’s used in cosmetics for its unique fragrance, of course, but also because it contains properties of purifying, nourishing and softening.

I haven’t tried the last three but I know that both the Orange Blossom and White Peach & Nectarine are perfect choices for my delicate nose and will continue to live in my shower as long as I can find it to purchase.  —  Marcia

Why not let C.O. Bigelow take a shower with you?

C.O. Bigelow Grapefruit Body Cleanser

C.O. Bigelow Grapefruit Body

I remember the first time I bought a shower gel. I was a latecomer to the world of bath and body products and basically just used an unscented bar of soap in the shower. When I learned I was missing out on a whole world of products I started shopping around but everything was too perfumey or artificial smelling for my nose. I finally came across C.O. Bigelow aka C.O. Bigelow Apothecary and realized I’d found a brand that I could tolerate. I don’t remember if the first Body Cleanser I bought was Lemon or Grapefruit but I know it was one of those.

When C.O. Bigelow offered to send a Grapefruit scented Body Wash I was absolutely thrilled to have this experience again. It woke up all my memories and my senses once I started using it in the shower after all these years.

C.O. Bigelow Grapefruit Body Cleanser

C.O. Bigelow Grapefruit Body Cleanser

This $12 bottle of cleanser has been living in my shower for a few weeks now and seems quite content there. My body is also content with using this. I am very happy that this is a more natural smelling shower gel without any of the artificialness I dislike. Instead it’s a zesty grapefruit scent that I love on my body. It even leaves my bathroom smelling so pleasant afterwards.

This lathers up beautifully and a little goes a long way when I’m using a shower pouf. If you aren’t a citrus fan there are other fragrances besides lemon and grapefruit like Lavender, Lime & Coriander, Mentha, Coconut, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary Mint. My skin feels nicely moisturized after my shower and I love that they use Aloe Vera Gel to produce this effect.

C.O. Bigelow Lip Balm

C.O. Bigelow Lip Balm

As the weather cools I’m finding that my C.O. Bigelow Lemon Lip Balm ($7.50) is getting more and more use. This contains Shea Butter which helps to nourish and condition lips. It also is Vitamin C rich and has a concentration of lemon oil and lemon extract to provide a dose of Vitamin C to my lips. I find this to be very soft and easy to apply. I mostly wear it alone but I’ve also used it as a base for a lip color or to add a little shine and moisture to a lipstick. It does contain sodium saccharin though so be aware of that.

A big surprise to me is that the official C.O. Bigelow site carries dozens of other brands besides their own so getting to free shipping will be easy! C.O. Bigelow products are cruelty free, reasonably priced and trustworthy.  Do you feel like jumping in the shower with C.O. Bigelow too?? — Marcia

I am a Moody Cow or sometimes a Lazy Cow…until I use my Cowshed Bath and Body

I think this hilarious line gets my vote for cutest concept ever. The company is the British beauty brand Cowshed and they just expanded into eight Barney’s locations in the U.S. as well as Barneys online. Cowshed’s bath and body products all have a fragrance that is associated with a different mood:  Knackered Cow (relaxing), Moody Cow (balancing),
Grumpy Cow (uplifting), Horny Cow (seductive), Wild Cow (invigorating), Gorgeous Cow (blissful) and Lazy Cow (soothing).

Cowshed Moody Cow Bath and Shower Gel, Lazy Cow

Cowshed Moody Cow Bath and Shower Gel, Lazy Cow Bath and Body Oil

Cowshed sent Moody Cow Bath and Shower Gel ($25) and Lazy Cow Bath and Body Oil ($31) to try.  I can relate to Moody Cow (thank YOU perimenopause), and while I’m not usually a Lazy Cow I am a tired one, so this works!   While the names are cute the products are serious, made from organic ingredients, wildcrafted plant extracts and pure essential oils of the highest quality.

So where did the name Cowshed come from? Cowshed says, “A cow shed in the English countryside might be an unlikely place to find an array of bath, body and skincare products but that’s exactly where this beauty and lifestyle brand was born. Cowshed was established back in 1998 at Babington House, a beautiful Soho House rural retreat and private members club, in Somerset, England.  There are few things in life better than an English garden – the scents, colors and botanical ingredients are all inspiration for Cowshed’s award winning range of products. Still to this day, there is a little bit of Babington House in every bottle – a drop of Cowshed’s trademark herb and flower infusion, handpicked from its Victorian Walled Garden.”

Each fragrance is available in Bath & Shower Gel, Bath & Body Oil, Body Lotion, Room Candle, Travel Candles, and Perfume Oil Roll-Ons.

Here is what I tried:

Are you a Moody Cow?

The Moody Cow scent is meant to help you achieve mental and emotional balance. When tempted to reach for chocolate, reach for this instead and get an instant pick-me-up.

The scent is a combination of rose geranium, linden blossom, and frankincense.

Feeling moody? This will calm you down.

beautiful packaging!

sweet packaging!

The scent is wonderfully rejuvenating and it’s a terrific shower gel. It foams up beautifully, surrounding you with a warm blanket of anxiety-relieving goodness. I also love this for a nice, relaxing bubble bath.

Now when I am just done with everything and am ready to be a Lazy Cow, I hand this body oil over to my hubby and tell him to get cracking – my sore muscles need some attention!

Cowshed Lazy Cow Soothing Bath and Body Oil

The Lazy Cow scent is an olfactory party mix of jasmine, chamomile, and sandalwood.  Talk about relaxing!! After I put this on I just want to lie there and watch the first six seasons of ‘Mad Men’ all in a row.

Feeling lazy? This will perk you up!

Besides turning the hubby into my personal masseuse, I also put this body oil on right after my shower to make my skin baby soft and slightly fragrant. And at night I rub this onto my hands to keep my cuticles looking great, as well as my feet and heels for major moisture.

I would love to try other fragrances like the Grumpy Cow (grapefruit and neroli), although I’m sure it doesn’t ever fit my mood…ha!

So, come on, be honest…which kind of Cow are you feeling like today?? – Lisa
