bareMinerals The Instant Attraction Palette and Chase Your Dreams Marvelous Moxie Lipstick

Bare Minerals

I am really into neutral warm shades for eyes and lips this season and bareMinerals The Instant Attraction Palette ($30) and the Marvelous Moxie Chase Your Dreams Lipstick ($18) from the Lovescape Spring 2016 Collection are exactly the colors I want.                              pr samples

Bare Minerals

Both come in pretty gold packaging. The lipstick is in a special edition gold tube with a push-button release, which means this lipstick will not lose its top in your purse, thank goodness. The eyeshadow palette has four shadows:

Bare Minerals The Instant Attraction Eyeshadow Palette

bareMinerals The Instant Attraction Eyeshadow Palette

Whirlwind – matte light peach

Happenstance – shimmery yellow gold

Anticipation – golden rose

Meant to Be – shimmering espresso

Bare Minerals The Instant Attraction Eyeshadow Palette

I think these shades are stunning, particularly together – they just look like a summer sunset, don’t they?? They have a rather powdery texture and the shimmery shades definitely have fallout. To lessen that pat them on, don’t sweep them onto your eyes. If you are going to be in the sun, know that you will probably have sparkle on your face, not just your eyes.

That said, the eyeshadows are so pretty I don’t mind dealing with a bit of fallout. They are very nicely pigmented and blend well. I love that bareMinerals gave a great diagram for that ‘sunset’ look:

Bare Minerals The Instant Attraction Eyeshadow Palette

The shades are stunning together and make a perfect palette for summer. For lips, I am loving the Chase Your Dreams shade of Marvelous Moxie Lipstick.

Bare Minerals Chase Your Dreams Lipstick

bareMinerals Chase Your Dreams Lipstick

Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Chase Your Dreams is a warm, brown-toned rose. This is a quintessential summer shade that works for day or night. I always love the texture and wear of the Marvelous Moxie lippies – buttery smooth, long-wearing full coverage.

Wearing bareMinerals Chase Your Dreams

Marvelous Moxie Lipstick has a slight minty taste at first, but that goes away quickly. It leaves lips hydrated with a nice slip thanks to the ‘moisture-loaded hydrating complex that helps to nourish and condition with Abyssinian Oil and Omega Fatty Acids for supple, baby-soft smoothness.‘ In addition, encapsulated vitamin A, C and E complex work hard as antioxidant defense.

This summer, don’t ignore The Instant Attraction and be sure to Chase Your DreamsbareMinerals will make it a season to remember!  – Lisa

Brow and lash love for 2015

Make-up, applying mascara

As I was doing my makeup for New Year’s Eve I realized that the biggest change in my cosmetic life for 2015 was that I absolutely can not go without doing my brows anymore. A combination of age and illness created eyebrows that just didn’t cut it anymore. I went for most of my life not touching my eyebrows with much more than a tweezers. They had a great natural shape and were filled in nicely. That’s not the case any more. That’s why I decided to share the 2015 eyebrow and eyelash products that have made a difference for me.

PIXI BROW POWDER PALETTE  –  Shades of Brows

Pixi Beauty Brow Palette

Pixi Beauty Brow Palette

This is my most used brow product for everyday. My hair isn’t necessarily the same shade from color to color so I appreciate having a choice of shades that I can use straight or mix. Right now I’m dipping twice into the darkest shade and once in the one lighter since my hair is very dark at the moment. I’ll get it colored soon and can reevaluate how I want to use the colors. One of the best buys at $12 I’ve found. *

PIXI ENDLESS BROW GEL PEN

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

The Endless Brow Gel Pen is another best for me from Pixi. This is not a universally loved product but I like it so much that I bought 3 the last time I ordered from Pixi. It’s not really a pen, it’s a pencil that is gel-like in texture. It’s a heavier look than the brow palette because the gel is thicker. I like wearing this when my brows really need attention.

SENNA COSMETICS BROW SHAPER

Senna Brow Duo in Brunette

Senna Brow Duo in Brunette

I love Senna Cosmetics but I hadn’t tried their eyebrow products before because I just didn’t care about my eyebrows. Now that I have this Brow Shaper with the plumping brow shade and pomade I really appreciate why Eugenia Weston, owner and cosmetic guru, is so well known for eyebrows. These powders really cling to my eyebrow hair and fill in naturally where I’ve lost some hair. Another reason to love Senna. *

IT COSMETICS HEAVENLY LUXE BUILD A BROW BRUSH

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Build A Brow and It Cosmetics Tightlining 10-in-1 Dual Ended brush

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Build A Brow and It Cosmetics Tightlining 10-in-1 Dual Ended brush

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Eyebrow brush

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Eyebrow brush

OMG, this is the best brush ever for eyebrows. It was created for IT’s Build a Brow Creme Gel Stain and it’s great with that but it also shines with every gel or cream brow product I’ve tried. The bristles are staggered so they really get into your brows to deposit color. This is totally unique and totally worth every penny of the $24 price.

BENEFIT ROLLER LASH MASCARA

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Officially named Roller Lash Super Curling and Lifting Mascara, this is one of my favorites of the year. I find Benefit Cosmetics to be hit or miss but after reading the raves for this I caved and I’m glad I did. The curved wand really does help curl your lashes although I always use an eyelash curler. The combo of the eyelash curler and Roller Lash gives me eyelashes that stay curled for a good 12 hours. This was good for me for a solid three months staying easy to wear and easy to remove.

CATRICE LASH MULTIMIZER VOLUME MASCARA

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara wand

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara wand

At $7.99 this is 1/3 the price of the Benefit mascara and almost as good. The Multimizer is a volume and definition mascara. While it doesn’t help add curl, it holds it well. The older this gets, the better it gets. Which means a new one is in my future.

BARE MINERALS LASH DOMINATION VOLUMIZING MASCARA

Bare Minerals Lash Domination

Bare Minerals Lash Domination

BareMinerals Lash Domination

BareMinerals Lash Domination

2016 was the year I realized I loved volume mascaras. Before that I always thought I was looking for length and definition but the mascaras I like best this year turned out to be volumizing. Who knew? Besides charming me with the polka dot packaging, Lash Domination * charmed me with the twisty turny brush and lashes that looked great. They call this a 10-in-1 mascara since it Volumizes, Lengthens, Thickens, Separates, Lifts, has All-day wear, is Mineral fortified, Resists clumps, Fights Flakes, and is Smudge-resistant. After reviewing * this, I bought another.

SURRATT BEAUTY RELEVEE LASH CURLER

Surratt Beauty Relevee Lash Curler

Surratt Beauty Relevee Lash Curler

Surratt Beauty Relevee Lash Curler opened

Surratt Beauty Relevee Lash Curler opened

I didn’t need another eyelash curler but I wanted this Surratt Beauty one after reading all the raves. Everyone has different shaped eyes and the lash curlers that a lot of people rave about (Shu, ELF etc) pinch me. This Surratt Relevee has been a delight to use. It opens widely, does a great job fitting my eyes and creates a curl that really lasts. If I want to use the method of inching up my lashes I have to use a magnifying mirror so I can see my lashes better.

As usual with a list like this, I’m sure I left out other wonderful products that I discovered in 2015. Even if I did though I know I’m recommending the ones that really have stood out to me. Have you tried any of these? What would you say stood out the most for you this past year?  — Marcia

Makeup Wars chooses some favorite mascaras

thanks to blushing noir for the great graphic

thanks to blushing noir for the great graphic

Makeup Wars is back with a favorite product – mascara. I love mascara and have a (ahem) few. This picture is to show you both unused stash mascaras and in use mascaras other than drugstore. Of course having this many won’t stop me from acquiring more.

Some current mascaras

Some current mascaras

and this isn't all!

and this isn’t all!

But the point of today’s Makeup Wars is to show you our favorites and I’ve chosen two that I haven’t really had a chance to review but that I love. This doesn’t negate my love for others like IT Cosmetics, Eddie Funkhouser, Milani, etc., it just adds to them. DRUM ROLL PLEASE…… today’s winners are

Bare Minerals Lash Domination and Susan Posnick Color Coated Mascara

Bare Minerals Lash Domination and Susan Posnick Color Coated Mascara

Bare Minerals Lash Domination and Susan Posnick Color Coated Mascara are the two that I’m totally stuck on and am loving these days. These are more like fraternal twins than identical twins. They each have great qualities. While both were sent for review initially, I’ve already repurchased the Bare Minerals during Ulta’s special and will purchase the SP when it’s had its 3 month run.

BARE MINERALS LASH DOMINATION was sent with other Bare Minerals items and it’s a winner. I hadn’t tried any mascara from Bare Minerals prior to this but I’m so happy they introduced me to Lash Domination ($18).

bare minerals lash domination

Lash Domination has an exclusive ProTwist180 Wand:

  • Spiraled 180 degree to curve around each lash & coat from ALL angles
  • Ergonomic channels load lashes for intense volume
  • Powered by nourishing minerals and quinoa protein complex

    Bare Minerals Lash Domination

    Bare Minerals Lash Domination

This mascara is a volumizing one and it does a great job of that without the clumps you often find with volume mascaras. It comes in one color – a deep intense black – that wears beautifully the entire day. I love how the brush curves and grabs each lash no matter how short it might be.

Bare Minerals Lash Domination when new

Bare Minerals Lash Domination when new

Bare Minerals calls Lash Domination a 10 in 1 product claiming it volumizes, defines, thickens, separates, lifts, has all day wear, is mineral fortified, doesn’t clump, fights flakes and is smudge resistant. And I totally agree. I love a defining mascara the most and I always look for one that isn’t going to smudge or flake. You hit it Bare Minerals and you are a mascara war winner!!

SUSAN POSNICK COLORCOATED MASCARA is one I’d never have known about if they hadn’t sent it. Susan Posnick products just don’t get the press that other brands do which is too bad. This COLORCOATED mascara ($24)  could be what changes that though because it needs to be talked about and worn by you and everyone you know.

Susan Posnick ColorCoated Mascara

Susan Posnick ColorCoated Mascara

Susan Posnick ColorCoated Mascara

Susan Posnick ColorCoated Mascara

Susan Posnick ColorCoated Mascara took the brand two years to create and get just right. It’s been obvious to me that they spent that long time wisely getting a mascara that does everything I want a mascara to do while conditioning my lashes at the same time. I find that this is much better at lengthening and definition than it is at thickening. Once I made my decision for this post I wore them both – BM on one eye and SP on the other. That really showed me the differences. Susan Posnick did a good job of volumizing but it didn’t make my lashes stick together at all. The definition and how long they looked is what set this apart.

Susan Posnick ColorCoated Mascara

Susan Posnick ColorCoated Mascara

The brush is a double twist brush that picks up all your lashes. The color is super black but it never strays. I’ve yet to have a single flake or smudge with this.

Benefits:

  • Fortifying complex conditions and helps stimulate lash enhancement
  • Unique double-twist wand for precise application and lash separation
  • Water-resistant formula won’t smear or smudge
  • Never flakes or clumps during application

Two wonderful mascaras that I think deserve to be awarded the title of WINNER for Makeup Wars. — Marcia

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue wants to help you rethink your makeup

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue and Smoothing Face Brush

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue and Smoothing Face Brush

Bare Minerals has decided to change what we use on our face in place of foundation. They’ve created COMPLEXION RESCUE which is a Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. It’s a little bit tinted moisturizer, a little bit BB Cream and a little CC Cream. They’ve all come together to create something new and unique and fabulous. While these are press samples, I’d buy Complexion Rescue again when I use up this tube.bare minerals foundation colorsCOMPLEXION RESCUE ($29) is available in 10 shades. They have a shade finder to help you select the shade that’s going to be best for you. I chose Opal and it’s perfect for me. It’s rare that I can find a foundation that is light enough but doesn’t look ghostly.

The first time I wore Complexion Rescue I wondered if it was for me. The coverage was so light that I worried that throughout the day my redness and uneven skintone would bleed through. I was wrong and I’ve enjoyed this more and more as I’ve had the opportunity to wear it the last few weeks.

There’s so much to know about Complexion Rescue and the Bare Minerals website does a great job of explaining it all but here’s a quick recap-

* this is a fragrance-free gel that contains mineral based broad spectrum SPF30

* Complexion Rescue contains Mineral Electrolyte Complex to help revitalize your skin

* the ingredients are excellent humectants to make sure you get the hydration you need (olive derived squalene, marine botanicals, trehalose and glycerin)

* Heart leaf globe daisy helps protect against the environment

While you can use your fingers I really recommend using a brush like the Bare Minerals Smoothing Face Brush ($28). This is a new brush created by Bare Minerals to work wonders with this gel cream. It has synthetic dual fibers which give an airbrushed look to your application.

You will need so little of the Complexion Rescue when you use this tool or a similar one that your BB/CC/TM will last you so much longer.

If you are looking for a light, radiant foundation then set your eyes on Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. It’s not for those who feel they need full coverage though. I’d recommend using a lightweight concealer prior to application to cover redness or undereye circles, use a wonderful brush like the Smoothing Face Brush and notice how much you like it more day after day. Have you tried this new mineral based formula? Do you like it as much as I do? — Marcia

From Bare Minerals: “Formulated without oil, silicone, parabens or fragrance to maintain the integrity of the skin–loving formula, Complexion Rescue combines marine botanicals and hydrating humectants to help refuel thirsty skin, energizing mineral electrolytes to help enhance skin’s appearance, and a skin–protecting antioxidant that acts as skin’s bodyguard to help defend against environmental stressors. A non–chemical, mineral–based, broad spectrum SPF 30 provides superior protection against damaging UV rays.”

Modern Pop Marvelous Moxie Lipsticks from Bare Minerals

Bare Escentuals Modern Pop Magnificent Moxie Lipsticks

Bare Minerals Modern Pop Magnificent Moxie Lipsticks

When you have moxie, you need the lipstick to match – and Bare Minerals has the perfect answer! Modern Pop is their  Spring 2015 limited edition collection that features creamy peach lips. They sent us the three beautiful neutral Modern Pop Marvelous Moxie Lipsticks, along with a transforming lip gloss that instantly gives each shade a new personality. If you love nude lips, this is a must-have collection.

Modern Pop Magnificent Moxie lipstick case

Modern Pop Magnificent Moxie lipstick case

First let’s talk packaging.  Modern Pop Marvelous Moxie Lipsticks ($20 each) come in a super cute white polka dot pink lipstick case. This case snaps shut and stays closed, but easily opens to a handy mirror. The lipsticks themselves are in gleaming silver bullets with an ingenious locking system. Definitely no worries of lipstick-streaked purse pockets!

Check out the fabulous packaging!

Check out the fabulous packaging!

The three peachy lipsticks in the Modern Pop collection includes Express Yourself, Fall in Love, and Dream Big, along with the Modern Pop Cream Glaze Lip Topcoat. The lipsticks are creamy and very pigmented. They have an opaque satin finish. I find them to be nicely moisturizing, which also means the wear is not as long as more matte lipsticks. The ingredients include Abyssinian Oil and Omega Fatty Acids to soften lips, as well as antioxidants vitamin A, C and E complex.

Modern Pop Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Dream Big

Modern Pop Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Dream Big

Dream Big is a nude peach, the lightest shade of the three. It’s the quintessential nude lippie. If I didn’t have such thin lips I would love this, but I need a little more lip real estate to do the color justice.

Modern Pop Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Express Yourself

Modern Pop Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Express Yourself

Express Yourself is a bright peach. This is darker and brighter than Dream Big and is a great shade for spring. I love that it isn’t a brown-based peach, which always makes me look washed out.

Modern Pop Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Fall in Love

Modern Pop Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Fall in Love

Fall in Love is a tawny peach that is the deepest shade in the trio. This is a very interesting shade that leans orange. I love this one and I don’t have anything else like it in my collection.

Modern Pop also has a lip gloss to go with the lipsticks called Cream Glaze Lip Topcoat. This is a cream gloss with pearl.

Modern Pop Cream Glaze Lip Topcoat

Fall in Love swatched with and without Topcoat

Fall in Love swatched with and without Topcoat

As you can see, the Modern Pop Cream Glaze Lip Topcoat totally transforms Fall in Love from a deeper tawny peach to a shiny lighter pastel. It works on all the Modern Pop lipsticks, as well as any other lipstick you have. It is great for softening colors that are too deep for your skin tone, as well as giving matte lipsticks a whole new look. What a great way to increase the versatility of your lipstick collection!

I adore the packaging for the Modern Pop collection and the peach shades are perfect for spring.  f you only get one thing, be sure to buy the Cream Glaze Lip Topcoat, which saves any lipsticks that aren’t quite right for you and gives old favorites a new look.  – Lisa
