Spring eyeshadow favorites

At last Spring has arrived and with it comes lighter shades of cosmetics and a lighter disposition. For Top Ten Tuesday this week we’ve all selected eyeshadows that we love or want for spring. Read on for my choices and then click the icons for a bevy of beauties from my fellow Top Ten ladies. — Marcia
1427060953_jester_white_bgMAKEUP GEEK FOILED EYESHADOW in JESTER Springtime and green go together like a horse and carriage. Green is emerging in nature and on my eyes with this gorgeous metallic shade. Jester is a bright mossy green with a gorgeous gold to it. Not to be missed.*
1427060725_0607845019312NARS DUAL INTENSITY EYESHADOW in HIMALYA and DIONE are two favorites of mine. Himalya is a shimmering topaz while Dione is metallic champagne beige. I find these to be pretty sparkly on me but they add a nice dimension to my browbone especially.
1427060585__10115112TORY BURCH “CATCH” EYESHADOW PALETTE is on my wishlist. I just ordered a safer neutral Tory Burch palette from Nordstrom but I have my eye on this one if the quality makes me happy. The light purple, pink and peach scream spring while the unusual blue calls out summer too.
1427060531_74422-ready4BARE MINERALS MODERN POP READY EYESHADOW, THE MODERN ICON is one I’ve been wearing a lot so I guess I was rushing spring. The shades on these are muted pastels so they aren’t the typical pink, peach and lavender you are used to. It’s become a favorite like all my Bare Minerals Ready shadows already are. Review coming up soon. *
1427060448_32140378_000_b__medium_?1427060448STILA IN THE MOMENT PALETTE is going to get me back into Stila eyeshadows. I think I need a warm weather vacation so I can buy this without guilt. It has all the right colors for spring and summer.
1427060326_32884033_008_b__medium_?1427060326ARDENCY INN MODSTER MARUKA HONEY PIGMENT EYESHADOW in HEAVEN is total love for me. I think this is a year round color but boy will it make me feel bright and alert this spring. I’ve bought several others since my review and I’m in love with the gorgeous intensity of these. *
1427060204__9573580JOUER LONG WEAR CREME EYESHADOW in STARLIGHT is one I don’t have yet but it’s being sent as I type. I love a cream eyeshadow and I think this is going to be sensational. I want it as a base shade and will share it soon. I expect it to be a hit.
1427060138_itmfn-shadowSENNA EYESHADOWS from the NUDE COLLECTION gorgeous neutral eyeshadows are on the horizon for review. I’ve loved Senna eyeshadows for at least a dozen years and these new neutrals in Moonlight, Essence, Blend and Nudist are wonderful. These are all mattes that apply like a dream. They are the perfect base coat and work beautifully for a subtle eye. *
Welcome spring!

Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey eyeshadows are making us swoon

ARDENCY INN Modster Maruka Honey Enriched Pigments

ARDENCY INN Modster Maruka Honey Enriched Pigments

Ardency Inn is a newer makeup brand and one that’s captured the hearts and eyes of the bloggers of Beauty Info Zone. When Urban Outfitters sent us some eyeshadows to test we just about plotzed. These are true beauties ladies and are covetable. Ardency Inn has its roots in the downtown New York music scene but it’s reached out to us in the hinterlands and grabbed us. It’s an extremely creative line that resonates with people in the arts and with us too.

The eyeshadows are called MODSTER MANUKA HONEY ENRICHED PIGMENTS but they aren’t loose pigments. What they are is a group of 10 highly pigmented eyeshadows ($21 each) that will knock your socks off.

“Innovative makeup from Ardency Inn’s Modster line featuring Manuka honey, a mono-floral honey produced in New Zealand and Australia. This all-natural ingredient makes Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey Pigment seriously super creamy with superior color pigmentation. This luxe, creamy color glides on effortlessly and stays put all day.”

MARCIA’S EYESHADOWS:

Ardency Inn Heaven and Rose Gold

Ardency Inn Heaven and Rose Gold

I am 100% in love with the two eyeshadows I have from Ardency Inn. I wear them constantly and each time I do I want more. I have Heaven and Rose Gold and already ordered 3 more.

Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey pigment in Heaven

Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey pigment in Heaven

HEAVEN is well named because I find it heavenly in all ways. Heaven is a metallic champagne with both silver and bronze undertones. I wear this with different shades of brown and beige or with a khaki eyeshadow. It’s a metallic finish that absolutely shines. There is no glitter, no sparkle, it’s just this great metallic shade of gold. These eyeshadows have basically no fall out. I may get a little under my eyes when I’m applying them but it wipes away and stays away. I don’t have any color that’s wandered throughout the day. As much as I love this with a very dark brown (that’s why I ordered it in Hell), it’s amazing with a khaki or a green that’s on the warm side.

ROSE GOLD is exactly what the name describes. If you crave a rosy gold shade then this is one stop shopping. It’s a metallic rose that reflects a warm gold.

Ardency Inn Rose Gold

Ardency Inn Rose Gold

The combinations are endless with this shade. I like to use a matte cream shade on my browbone, wear Rose Gold on the lid, and anything from a charcoal to a dark brown to even a purple on the outer crease. It’s one of those shades that makes you want to be creative.

I’m in love and I bet Lisa is too!

LISA’S EYESHADOWS:

I do, I do! I love these eyeshadows just as much as Marcia does. The pigmentation is out of this world and the colors stay true and bright all day even without an eyeshadow primer. My two shades, Royal and Sunday, are about as far apart on the color spectrum as you can get.

Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey Enriched Pigment in Royal

Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey Enriched Pigment in Royal

ROYAL is a deep purple that I would indeed describe as ‘royal’. It has red undertones and slight blue reflects. I love this as an eyeliner, both dry and wet. After I used this eyeshadow a bunch of times I noticed that on the website it warns not to use Royal near the eyes. I don’t know why, and it certainly hasn’t caused me any eye problems. I don’t see the warning on the Sephora website, so I am not sure what the story is…but I can say that I use it on my eyes with no issues, and it is a gorgeous, gorgeous color.

Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey Enriched Pigment in Sunday

Ardency Inn Modster Manuka Honey Enriched Pigment in Sunday

SUNDAY is a beige pearl with gold and pink undertones. On me, this is a soft gold with a metallic finish. It is just to die for as a lid shade and is perfect for those with deep set eyes. Sunday is a glorious shade indeed, one that is neutral yet glamorous at the same time.

I am beyond impressed with my Ardency Inn Modster Eyeshadows and am dying to try more. At the top of my wish list are Tangerine, Disco, and Hell – together they sound like quite a party!!

Makeup Wars loves Nude lippies

Makeup Wars and Top Ten Tuesdays have tempted you with pink lips, peach and coral lips, red lips but never true nudes. Now’s the time though and I was ready for this challenge. Most of my collection is nude lips. It got to the point that I had so many that I had to force myself not to buy new ones unless I was absolutely desperate for them. I was once a MACaholic and I’d buy every rendition of nude they had – and then I’d wear them twice and put them aside. I haven’t chosen any MAC to share with you since I don’t seem to grab for them anymore so instead you’ll see some of my favorites from other brands.

Makeup Wars Nude Lip favorites

Nude lips are interesting because they all have different undertones plus what I consider nude might be too light for you depending on your skintone.

Makeup Wars lip crayons: Ardency Inn, Tarte (x2), Hourglass

Makeup Wars lip crayons: Ardency Inn, Tarte (x2), Hourglass

I’m a big fan of lip crayons but nude ones don’t overpopulate my collection. Ardency Inn Bowery, tarte exposed and Hourglass Nude No 3 are the ones I usually crave.

Hourglass Nude No3 and Ardency Inn Bowery

Hourglass Nude No3 and Ardency Inn Bowery

I bought Hourglass Femme Nude Stylo No3 because everyone was raving about these. Hourglass has an amazing reputation and these Nude lip crayons made beauty lovers so excited. No3 is described as “medium rose nude with hint of pink”. This has a pink undertone but it’s very light once on my lips, not medium to my eyes.

top Hourglass, bottom Ardency Inn

ARDENCY INN AMERICANA Natural Lip Color Pencil in Bowery was my next buy. These are $23 compared to the $30 of Hourglass so that made me happy. ARDENCY INN lip crayons seem to be truer nude shades too. Bowery is a light peach on my lips even though Sephora tells me that it’s a “light nude with pink undertones”. It just isn’t pink on me but it is pretty and I’m very comfortable in it. The consistency is smoother and a little more glossy than Hourglass.

tarte exposed - old vs new versions

tarte exposed – old vs new versions

Tarte Exposed was one of the colors saved when tarte revamped all their lip crayons. Tarte still sells LipSurgence but I didn’t find Exposed. The original fat crayon has a matte finish while the new tarte exposed is a glossier finish. The new pencils are called Power Pigments and Exposed is described as “nude with pink undertones”.

tarte exposed original version and new Power Pigment

tarte exposed original version and new Power Pigment

Power Pigment in exposed is glossier and slightly more pink while the original is definitely a matte on me and a little darker. Can’t go wrong with either but there is a slight difference between the two.

Makeup Wars Nude Lipsticks: Tom Ford, Lunasol, Armani, Gosh, Armani, Shiseido

Makeup Wars Nude Lipsticks: Tom Ford, Lunasol, Armani, Gosh, Armani, Shiseido

6 lipsticks made the cut for Makeup Wars: Tom Ford Pink Dune, Lunasol 25, Armani Shine 17, Gosh Darling, Armani 103, Shiseido RS701

GOSH Darling

GOSH Darling

GOSH Darling was a lipstick that everyone had to have. It was so hot on boards like Makeup Alley that you felt like you didn’t belong there if you didn’t own it.

Gosh Darling

Gosh Darling

I finally got it and was shocked at how much it looks like concealer. It’s so light and so beige that I couldn’t get it to show in a single swatch photo. I couldn’t resist putting this in even though it’s not a favorite, I’m including it for shock value.

Armani Shine 17, Lunasol 25, Armani 103

Armani Shine 17, Lunasol 25, Armani 103

These are the lipsticks that I reach for when I want moisturized lips with beautiful nude shades. Armani in particular makes outstanding nude colors for lips and I think they are among the finest lipsticks available. I get a little overwhelmed at an Armani counter because I want too much. All of these lipsticks were bought long ago.

Rouge d’Armani in 103 is my newest Armani and still available. 103 is the pink nude that I love to wear. It looks beige in the tube but once on it picks up pink.

Rouge d'Armani 103 (nordstrom.com)

Rouge d’Armani 103 (nordstrom.com)

Armani Shine 17 is an oldie but goodie. It’s more sheer than 103 but just as glossy.

LUNASOL 25 is also an older lipstick and I doubt it’s still for sale. Lunasol lipsticks were introduced to me by an old friend. I’d go nuts cosmetic shopping in Japan or Singapore! I have 2 LUNASOL lipsticks and they are so wonderfully creamy. They have a very similar consistency and look to the Armani ones I love.

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune barely has any color on my lips but that doesn’t stop me from loving it. It was a limited edition shade that I bought in the early winter but didn’t really wear at first. It felt too nude for winter but I can wear it now. Sometimes I’ll put it over another lipstick to ‘nude’ it up a bit.

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

I had to include Shiseido RS701 even though it’s not available. This was my first Shiseido lipstick and it reminds me of shopping with my blog partner Lisa. It’s one of my favorite lipstick buys. It’s a pink nude (RS stands for Rose) that has the perfect depth for me.

I’m sure these swatches all look alike but as a true beauty afficionado knows they are different as different can be.

Makeup Wars loves peach and coral lip colors

Welcome to a new Makeup Wars celebrating peach and coral lip shades. We know that spring is the best time to bring out our prettiest lip colors. I’m not a big coral lip lover but some corals are light enough for me. What I do love though are peach shades and peachy pink shades. My list today contains some of those favorites plus 2 wishlist items.
1. MAKE COSMETICS Flesh lipgloss and Deep Flesh lipstick are the first two shades I pulled when I was deciding on this list. Deep Flesh lipstick is on the dark side for me but with Flesh lipgloss on top it’s the epitome of springness.*
2. MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick in N37 is described as an iridescent icy coral. I love the sheerness of this shade and that it has a touch of pink to the coral. It glistens!
3. TARTE LIPSURGENCE LIP TINTS are favorites in all of the shades. I love tarte lip crayons and especially Tipsy and Fearless. Tipsy (3rd swatch) is a beautiful coral that’s not too dark while Fearless (4th swatch) is a peachy pink coral.*
4. BEAUTE’ COSMETICS LUMINOUS VOLUME GLOSS IN CHIMERA has long been one of my favorite glosses. I bought most of the Beaute’ glosses when they first became available and they are ones I reach for often. Chimera is an iridescent salmon pink.
5. ARDENCY INN NATURAL LIP PENCIL IN BOWERY is described as a light nude with pink undertones but it’s actually a peach both on my hand and lips. These pencils from Ardency Inn are similar to the nudes of Hourglass but a little smoother and less expensive.
6. BEAUTE COSMETICS LUMINOUS VOLUME GLOSS IN ELITIST is another of my favorites from Beaute. Elitist is described as a sophisticated tawny shade. I wear it when I’ve chosen warm shades and want a beautiful peach shade.
7. NARS TASMANIA LIPGLOSS is a wishlist item. Of all the new Nars shades I’ve seen Tasmania’s pink cantaloupe shade is the one I’m most drawn to and will pick up once it’s at Sephora.
8. BITE BEAUTY HIGH PIGMENT PENCIL IN BOUQUET is another wishlist item. Since it’s a matte shade (and not the one shown in my beauty set unfortunately) I want to test it first to make sure I like the look. I know I like the color!

My tax refund beauty wishlist and a way for you to win $100

Is there anything more dreaded than Tax Season? It feels punishing to me in many ways. First it takes me forever to find every item and receipt that could be used for deductions. I guess my disorganization shows every March. Then I’m worried about what I use, aka “is it legit”. The last thing I need is a letter from the IRS to make my life a disaster. My husband takes everything to our tax advisor since it can get a little complicated and I wait to answer the questions that inevitably come. A few years ago he came home totally dejected because we owed big time. This year we’ll get a refund since we don’t want to repeat that disaster. It helps to go to Tax Season Deals to learn ways you can help save a little money on getting your taxes done. Which all leads to what can I do to celebrate and spend some of that tax refund. The answer is that I’m a blogger who loves cosmetics so don’t you think a little splurge is due? Not too big because I also want a new purse from Shopbop so I can fill it with all my goodies. My little rather large shopping wishlist is from Sephora and a few other sites. I seriously go to Coupons. com to find the codes for freebies whenever I order. For example right now Sephora has codes for a free radiant orchid makeup bag or a cosmetic mask and more will be added this month. Here’s my Tax Season Refund Wishlist as of April 1, 2014.

1. Sephora + Pantone Universe The Eye: Radiant Femme Artistry Set – 25 eyeshadows from Sephora + Pantone Universe only set my heart racing. The color of the year, Radiant Orchid, dominates the set and each of the 6 quads would work with it. This could be nothing but fun for spring and summer.
2. and 3. Nars brushes – #9 Diffusing Brush and #10 Blending Brush – I love brushes and these two would surely make me more beautiful than ever. These are high up on my wish list even though, admittedly, I don’t need them. But then again what do I need?
4. Marc Jacobs Beauty eyeshadow trio in The Punk – I constantly put these on my wishlists but so far haven’t bought more. (Not to say that I don’t have a few in my stash.) This one has that whole Radiant Orchid thing going which makes it more appealing.
5. NARS Matte Multiple in either Exumas (pink apricot) or Anguilla (ginger pink). I want to see and test these first but the reviews are appealing.
6. Make Up For Ever HD Second Skin Cream Blush – yes I reviewed three of these but I’m sure I need at least one more. #410 Coral is supposed to be the most universal shade. Don’t you think I should look at it??
7. Bite Beauty Lipstick in either Quinta (rosy pink), Vouvray (ballet pink) or Musk (pink brown). I need to see these in person to decide on the color and I hope I only walk away with one!
8. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – this is the mascara that absolutely every blogger in our Top Ten Mascara post raved about, except me that is. Therefore this is a necessity to buy!
9. and 10.  butter LONDON’s new LOLLY BRIGHTS collection – I want them all but after Polish Insomniac showed these I totally fell in love with Stroppy and Jammy. I had promised myself no more nail polish but I’m too weak to resist colors like this. I can’t wait until they are available.
11. SUPERGOOP CITY SUNSCREEN SERUM – this is great stuff and I want one for this summer. At $42 it’s expensive for a sunscreen but my skin loves this and there is no fragrance!
12. ARDENCY INN CUSTOM COVER CONCENTRATE – My Newest Addiction blogged about this creating a lemming for it. You mix this with your moisturizer (or with the Supergoop above) and create your own foundation. Sounds so perfect for summer.
13. FOREO LUNA – This is a cheat since I own this. But if I didn’t it would definitely be on my wishlist and probably should be on yours. I love this for cleansing since it’s gentle, effective and relaxing at the same time. It’s $199 so it’s a splurge but if you get the right tax refund this is a great way to spend it.
So now that you’ve seen my wishlist, it’s time for you to enter the Coupons. com giveaways. There are two of them. One is directly from Coupons. com and can be found on this link. Glossybox’s Happy Holiday December box

Happy Holiday Glossybox

Happy Holiday Glossybox

I received the December 2013 Glossybox just as the year was ending and it was a wonderful way to end the year. I love surprises which is why I’m such a fan of subscription boxes. Glossybox was the first exciting box to come on the scene and it remains that way after all of this time.

contents of the December 2013 Glossybox

contents of the December 2013 Glossybox

Glossybox includes 5 items in almost all of their boxes. While not all items are full size, they don’t include anything small. You don’t end up with one or two uses from anything they include. There are deluxe size samples which will provide weeks worth of use.

The December box had 3 items that are skincare and body care and 2 items that are cosmetic. On to the delight of these treasures.

Glossybox skin and body

Glossybox skin and body

Anatomicals body cleanser

Anatomicals body cleanser

ANATOMICALS You Need a Blooming Shower is a Body Cleanser that is 5 oz. The full size is 10 oz. so this is a very large sample size. The fragrance of this is pretty strong since it’s a mix of rose and jasmine scents. It contains aloe vera and witch hazel. It’s meant to be both relaxing and refreshing.

full size pumpkin mask

full size pumpkin mask

MICHAEL TODD TRUE ORGANICS Pumpkin Mask is a product that I’ve loved for a long time. (Lisa recently reviewed it on Beauty Info Zone.) This is also a deluxe sample that will last you for a long time since you just don’t need that much. This mask is great for unclogging pores and dissolving impurities. I’ll never complain finding something from Michael Todd in a subscription box.

Naoboy Oxygenating Cream

Naobay Oxygenating Cream

NAOBAY Oxygenating Cream Moisturizing is a new brand for me. The full size of 1.7 fl oz. is $44 and the deluxe sample in the box is 1.01 fl oz. Naobay is a very lightly fragranced cream that helps keep your skin balanced and hydrated. It contains essential oils like rosehip oil and sweet almond oil.  Naobay is one of the European companies that Glossybox partners with so it’s great that they are bringing a product from Valencia that’s natural and organic to their subscribers.

The two full size cosmetics are what made me most excited because they are both items I’d have bought on my own and they are wonderful.

Nails Inc in Victoria

Victoria by Nails Inc

NAILS INC nail polish in Victoria is a beautiful deep cherry red cream. I’d always recommend Nails Inc polishes. I get amazing wear out of their cream polishes. This is a beautiful winter shade. The first coat feels almost fuchsia but it deepens with more coats. This full size polish ($9.50) is an absolute winner in my book. This is a Glossybox special color too so you can only get it there.

Ardency Inn eyeliner

Ardency Inn eyeliner

Ardency Inn eyeliner

Ardency Inn eyeliner

ARDENCY INN Punker “World’s Baddest Eyeliner” is a brand I’ve been wanting to try out. Getting this marker type eyeliner ($19) is perfect. I’m in a liquid eyeliner phase right now and was over the top excited to see this in the box. This Ardency Inn product is what makes a subscription box so much fun – a new brand, full size that fits into my life perfectly.

Ardency Inn eyeliner thick or thin - it does it all

Ardency Inn eyeliner thick or thin – it does it all

This is one of my favorite Glossyboxes ever. Lisa wants the shower cleanser (too strong a fragrance for me) and I want the rest! A Glossybox subscription costs $21 a month and as you can see there was much more than $21 worth in the box. While the December box is sold out, it’s not too late to subscribe to get the January box. I’m sure it will be an exciting way to start 2014.
