March’s Glossybox had the best surprise in it

The reason I love subscriptions like Glossybox is because you never know what you are going to find. There are always surprises of some kind but this month when Glossybox sent the March edition to us for review I found the best surprise in it. I know that all the boxes contained something similar but it was like they had read my mind and found a perfect item for my lifestyle.

March 2014 Glossybox

March 2014 Glossybox

Inside this month’s box were 3 deluxe samples, 2 full size items and the bonus item – an Alex and Ani Charm Bangle. Now from my past reviews you know I love jewelry, especially items I can wear to work. Kids (of all ages) notice what their teachers and mentors wear even if they don’t comment on it. This Alex and Ani bracelet means a lot to me because of the way I feel about the world in general. I don’t want to get all gushy on you but this really made me feel wonderful.

“A majestic creature that embodies grace and beauty, a swan is a powerful symblol of love. Swans epitomize affectionate connection, as they typically created lasting bonds and mate for life. Embrace the devoted energy of this migratory being with the Swan Charm as encouragemnt to glide through life with an open heart.” – Alex and Ani

Along with the bonus bracelet each box received a different Alex and Ani product in Scent 7. The one I received is a Soap Bar in Scent 7 (full size $14) which symbolizes ENERGY. It’s a strongly scented bar containing shea butter and coconut oil. “Invigorate your senses and lift your spirit with each use.” These two products speak to me and the way I view the world so they are the highlights of this subscription box.

The deluxe samples are all products I’m looking forward to using. As you must know by now I love hair products so having an Alterna Haircare product, Bamboo Volume Plumping Strand Expand, in the box is perfect for me. I complain about the lack of volume that my hair has but if I use the right products like this Alterna Haircare one, I get fullness and beautiful looks. This .85 fl oz product is the perfect size for travel or for discovering if this works. (Full size 4 oz is $22; value of this is about $5)

Deluxe minis from Glossybox: Sisley, Nails Inc, Alterna and Etre Belle

Sisley, Nails Inc, Alterna and Etre Belle

There’s a luxurious Sisley Paris Black Rose Cream Mask sample (full size is $158/2.1 oz; value of .38 oz sample is about $26) is the first mask that Sisley Paris has created with anti-aging active ingredients. It’s rich in trace elements, vitamins and plants extracts. I always feel special using a product from Sisley and a mask is a wonderful product for an at-home spa day.

Etre Belle Cosmetics is a new brand for me so finding this Liplift Peel brought a smile to my lips. Liplift Peel is a gentle exfoliator for lips to be used about once a week. It just takes 2 minutes – the first minute is using the exfoliator in a circular motion on the lip area, the second minute is letting it penetrate, and then you remove with a dampened cloth.  This is particularly nice to have as we leave winter behind. (Full size items of 0.5 fl oz retails for $17.80)

So now that I’m cleansed from head to toe, my skin is masked and exfoliated and my body about to be adorned with jewels, Glossybox includes the prettiest spring shade of polish in Brook Street. This coral pink mini is perfect for fingers or toes that are waiting to be seen at last. It’s a great size for the fickle since it will give you enough for several uses.

This is a delightful box yet I know it’s not for everyone since there’s just one cosmetic item in it and lots of people are hoping for cosmetics. My feeling? There’s always next month and in the meantime I’ve got some amazing products to use and enjoy. What do you think of the March Glossybox?

It’s easy to subscribe to Glossybox and each month for $21 delivered you’ll get surprises galore. They are great for travel and for new discoveries. They are great for luxuries (like the Sisley) or heartwarming surprises (like the Alex and Ani charm bracelet). This March box has a value of at least $91. You can only come out ahead!

Oooh, I almost forgot that I have a spoiler for you for April. Glossybox is going to include one out of 13 shades of the wonderful Ciate Nail polishes in each box. That’s great news for me and hopefully you too. — Lisa

p.s. Another clue for April!! Each box will have Bellapierre Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Vanilla Pink ($24.50 value)

The subscription box fanatic is back with another report. This time it’s my April 2013 Glossybox. I’ve been subscribing to Glossybox since the very first box. Some boxes are great, some fall in the not so great category. Let’s see where this one falls on a scale of 1 to 10.

Work that Beauty with Glossybox

The first thing I noticed when I opened April’s Glossybox is that the Glossy Magazine wasn’t there. Personally I don’t care about the magazine so I didn’t mind at all and when I read the reason why, I liked that even better. In honor of Earth Day they decided to keep the magazine online only for April. I think that’s smart. Give me more product in the box and don’t waste resources! (score 10) Their theme is Natural Beauty this month and they achieve that through these products:

Let’s start in the shower with Wash With Joe – this is a Coffeemint Invigorating Body Wash. It contains an “invigorating blend of coffee and mint that helps revitalize and balance the body and the mind while keeping skin superbly clean”. I’m sure it’s great but I truly hate the smell of coffee. I admit that’s unusual so blast me if you must but Wash with Diet Coke would be more my style. (general score: 8, my personal score has to be 2 though)

From the shower you have to do your hair so they’ve included Alterna Haircare, Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist. This is formulated to give “just back from the beach waves”. You spray it on damp or dry hair and shape with your fingers for a loose, tousled style. I’ll have to see if this could work for me but my hair is straight since without being straight it’s just weird. (score 4)

Next we’ll have some skincare. Le Metier de Beaute Replenishing Daily Solution sample packet is included. This is a very nice moisturizer and if I keep getting these samples I’ll soon have enough to actually know if it works (I probably have 6 by now). If you buy this on Glossybox you can receive $75 off the $225 price with their code. (score 6)

Finally time for my face. This is where Glossybox has gone very natural. They’ve included a lip balm and a bronze toned blush. The lip balm is from The Honest Co. which is an organic company. They sell everything for your family. These lip balms come in a set of 3 for $9.95. They come in lavender mint, sweet orange vanilla and purely simple (the one I received). Even though I have a ton of lip balms, they get lost so easily so having another in the house is fine. (score 8)

Makeup wise they’ve included a TIGI Glow Blush in the color Haute. This is a baked formula in a rosy brown. I’m sure it’s lovely but … 1) I have very fair skin so it’s too dark for me; 2) I have more blushes than anyone can use so I’d like to be judicious in finding new ones; and 3) I’d rather not swatch it so that I can include it in a future Beauty Info Zone giveaway. One of my favorite eyeshadows from a long time ago is made by TIGI so I have faith that this blush is a great quality too. (score 7)

Last end your day with a relaxing bath and Bulgari Eau Parfume au the’, Tea Bag for Bath. Well you can do that, you couldn’t pay me to use this fragrance. This is the full size and valued at $9.50. Um, okay. It’s just not my style. (score 0 – no offense if you like Bulgari)

So there you have a natural day with April’s Glossybox. My scores weren’t too high but I don’t think it’s the box – I think it’s me. How would you rate this version of Glossybox? — Marcia

Golden Globes looks: Debra Messing makeup by tarte, Jessica Biel hair by Alterna

There’s always lots of gorgeous looks at the Golden Globes, and this year was no exception.  How about some insider info on a few of the stand outs?

Celebrity makeup artist Jeannia Robinette created Debra Messing’s look for the 69th annual Golden Globes using all tarte products.  “Debra said she wanted knock-em-dead eyes. She wanted a super smoky dramatic look, so we made it all about glamorous eyes, and accentuated them with a shiny, natural nude gloss on the lips.”

Debra Messing at the Golden Globes

To begin, Jeannia used tarte’s Amazonian clay 12-hour full coverage foundation with Broad Spectrum SPF 15, applied with tarte’s new airbrush finish bamboo foundation brush.
She added a touch of sheen with tarte’s new maracuja blush & glow brightening luminizer and cheek tint in candlelight on the tops of her cheekbones and around her temples.
She then used Amazonian clay bronzer in park ave princess to contour on the hollows of the cheek.

To make her cheekbones pop, she used tarte’s new Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in buff a warm nude with a touch of shimmer, on the apples of her cheeks and along her cheekbones.

She lined the inner rims of the eyes with tarte’s emphasEYES™ high-definition inner rim eyeliner black pencil.  Then she smudged smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner in golden black along the lash line, followed by smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner in olive, which added the perfect hint of green to complement her earrings.

She followed by tapping on Amazonian clay cream shadow in shimmering moss to set the look and strike the perfect balance of black and green.
For loads of volume and dramatic separation on her upper lashes, Jeannia used two coats of tarte’s light, camera, lashes! clinically-proven mascara, which made her eyes pop.
She finished by swiping tarte’s new the bright side double-ended eye brightener under her brow bones and in the very inner-corners of her eyes to add an instant brightening effect.

To complete Debra’s sexy, Hollywood glam look, Jeannia filled her lips with tarte’s LipSurgence™ lip luster in buff, then added major shine with tarte’s new maracuja divine shine lip gloss in glisten.

Another beautiful star was one of the presenters that evening, the always gorgeous Jessica Biel.  Celebrity stylist Davy Newkirk used Alterna Professional Haircare to create Jessica Biel’s red carpet hairstyle. Her lux boho waves were a beautiful compliment to her stunning dress.

Jessica Biel at the Golden Globes

Davy said, “We wanted Jessica’s hair to compliment the ‘bohemian luxury’ feel of her dress. I loved the idea of natural cascading waves against the backdrop of the dress’ backless silhouette. The overall look evokes a relaxed vibe while still remaining polished and sophisticated.”

To prep her hair, Davy said, “Jessica has a great head of hair, the texture is fine but she has a ton of it! I added extra volume and lift at the roots while maintaining the feather light feel.“

First, he applied Alterna Bamboo Volume Weightless Whipped Mousse all over damp hair,

and Alterna Bamboo Volume Uplifting Root Blast to the roots. He then blew it dry using a large round brush, this smooths the cuticle to ensure a polished result.

When her hair was 95% dry, to give strands texture and wave he used Alterna Bamboo Style Boho Waves Touseled Texture Mist and then finished with a rough dry using his fingers.

In terms of styling, Davy commented, “While creating Jessica’s waves my goal was to keep the look youthful and modern.”

He divided her hair into 1” sections and created waves using a 1¼” curling iron. He alternated between wrapping and clamping sections to maintain the organic movement to the look.

He then applied Alterna Bamboo Style Moldable Texture Paste to his hands and used his fingers to comb through the curls, tousling the strands.

For the finishing touches, Davy misted her hair with Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Humidity Hair Spray, commenting that the flexible hold formula sets the style, adding healthy shine and locking out frizz.  And finally, for that ultimate Golden Globes look, he smoothed pieces around her face with Alterna Bamboo Style Moldable Texture Paste.
