No more winter dry skin thanks to Algenist and Regenerative Anti-Aging Ultra Rich Cream

This is the very first winter that I have absolutely zero dry patches on my skin, the first winter that a makeup artist hasn’t accosted me to tell me that my skin needs major hydration. I attribute the change to my love affair with Algenist skincare. At the time of writing this review I’m using Algenist moisturizers for both my daytime moisturizer and my nighttime one.

Each day my skin is lapping up Algenist’s Regenerative Anti-Aging Ultra Rich Cream. After I used it for a few weeks I was thrilled when Sephora had a bonus of the Overnight Restorative Cream. I have no clue what I ordered to get this (probably eyeshadow knowing me) but I was very excited that this was a coded special so I had to get it!

Regenerative Anti-Aging Ultra Rich Cream (aka Ultra Rich Cream) is formulated for very dry skin. I don’t consider my skin to be damaged but I also never realized just how dry my winter skin was before. As with all of Algenist’s products the Ultra Rich Cream contains Alguronic Acid which “helps skin optimize its cell regeneration processes and increase elastin synthesis”. It’s their patented secret ingredient!! It also contains 2 times the normal amount of Shea Butter of other Algenist moisturizers as well as Vitamin C and H to “help build collagen, deliver nutrients to the skin, and boost radiance”.

The Ultra Rich Cream lives up to its name. It’s very rich and very thick. In spite of the thickness though it melts into my skin and I don’t really need a lot of it. If you stuck a heavy knife into the jar it would stand straight up – it’s that thick. Of course I don’t want knives in my bathroom but it’s a quick analogy. When I first open the jar I notice a sort of fresh soapy smell but by the time it’s gracing my face I notice no fragrance at all. What I do notice is that my skin is very deeply moisturized and even in my 10X mirror I never see the dry spots that I’ve been plagued with. In addition to this Algenist moisturizer I’ve been taking Imedeen Time Perfection supplements and the two are a match made in heaven according to my skin.

As I said, after the beginning success with Regenerative Anti-Aging Ultra Rich Cream I was excited to receive the Overnight Restorative Cream deluxe size sample from Sephora. Even though the Ultra Rich Cream is recommended for day and night, I still moved on to this new product since it’s specifically for overnight. This has a nice thick texture though not ultra thick. There’s no fragrance to it which is perfect for this insomniac.

The reason I’m excited about using this at night is that it helps renew skin cells to repair them overnight. I have to agree with Algenist’s statement: “The regenerative power of Alguronic Acid promotes cell renewal to improve skin structure while peptides nourish the skin and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Firmness and elasticity are restored and skin is smoother and more radiant in the morning.” I really do feel that my skin has less wrinkles and is smoother in the morning. I’m not waking up dreading what I see in the mirror.

I’ve been using these creams since November and December, because of the richness of these two products I’ve barely made a dent in them. The full size of Ultra Rich Cream ($90 for 2 oz) will easily last 8 months while the deluxe sample (which you can buy on Algenist.com for $22) will last me at least 2.5 – 3 months.  I’ve praised Algenist in my previous reviews and these two products have only made me feel stronger about the line. If you haven’t given Algenist products a try, this is the time. — Marcia

  1. Hmmm… how do you think it would work on acne-prone skin? I need something like this but I have sensitive skin. Thoughts?

  2. Hi Molly,
If you are near a Sephora they’d happily make you a sample. I no longer have acne prone skin but I do get an occasional breakout. For as long as I’ve been using Algenist products I’ve not had a problem at all. You could also write the company and see what they’d suggest for you.

  3. For dry skin on my face I use Apothederm http://apothederm.com/
They have an amazing moisturizing cleanser and moisturizing cream. They work better than anything else I’ve tried.
