Good morning Marcia, your mission should you chose to accept it, is to share your favorite summer lipstick with the Makeup War readers. We expect this to be a pretty easy mission for you but in the chance that should you or any of your MW force be caught or killed, the team will disavow any knowledge of you or your actions. This message will self-destruct in five seconds so you better get swatching.
Yes, an easy mission. Who couldn’t pick their favorite summer lipstick? Certainly not I. To begin the mission I headed towards my purse and tried to lift it. I have the bad habit of never quite taking any lipstick out of my purse so it usually weighs a lot. Once I lift it I take it over to my bathroom vanity where a variety of lipsticks that I’ve been wearing this summer are waiting.
And what do I find but a dozen lipsticks that I love. How do I pick a favorite?? I narrow the color down to pink since a pink lipstick always brightens my face and makes me smile. I also decide that I’m not going to include glosses even though those are considered lippies but I almost always wear a gloss over a lipstick. So here we are at 7, in no particular order…
Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake: this was my first lip butter and my favorite. It’s the lightest pink of all the ones on this list.
MAC Lustre in A Rose Romance: I have dozens of MAC lipsticks but for summer this pretty pink gets picked often. It was, of course, a limited edition. It reminds me a lot of the Revlon now that I see pictures so close togther.
Revlon top, MAC middle, Le Metier bottom – while the individual swatches look the same, when put together they do look different.
Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural in N19: I go back and forth between N19 and N33 but I almost always pick N19 which is an Iridescent Icy Pink. When I first reviewed this I said that if I had to pick a lipstick to wear for a month solid I’d choose this and I still feel that way. It’s a lovely sheer cool toned pink.
Rouge Bunny Rouge Colour Burst in Scrumptiously Delicious: I could also pick this for my favorite fall, winter, spring lippie since it’s an easy all year round shade for me. It’s described as a cool lavender pink satin finish with a warm golden opalescence.
tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Sweet: this is a light pink (lighter than my swatches appear) crayon with a fresh pepperminty taste. It came in one of the many sets I’ve purchased from QVC. It’s more shimmery than most of my LipSurgences.
tarte LipSurgence Lip Shine in Simmer: this is part of the 6 Piece High Performance collection recently reviewed. While I haven’t had it the whole summer I’ve had it long enough for it to become a favorite. This is a new style of LipSurgence with a sharpener on top.
AND THE WINNER IS: tarte LipSurgence in Sweet! Now this isn’t exactly fair because I can’t find this for sale anywhere except on ebay. It was in a kit called Radiant & Rested Volume II. In its place though I’d recommend the new LipSurgence Lip Shine in Simmer since I was wavering between those two or I’d look at the shade Charmed since it’s pretty close. Now why are the tarte the winners? They are foolproof in the summer; I can even put them on without a mirror. They feel fresh and they never bleed along my lipline. I only wear lipliner when I’m gettin’ fancy and I never feel the need to get fancy with either of these. And the best part is that I can wear Sweet with just about any eyeshadow or blush. It has enough coolness and warmth to work with my makeup. Sweet lives in my purse because I need them near me all the time. Can you see why this became the winner??
