I’m not a redhead but I’d love to look good with red hair. A few weeks ago I was getting my hair tinted (where did that gray come from?) and one of the employees was sporting the most stunning shade of red. I could not stop staring at it. I told her and her hairdresser half a dozen times how much I loved it. The very next day I was told about a collaboration with the blog How to Be A Redhead (by Stephanie and Adrienne Vendetti) and Whip Hand Cosmetics. When Whip Hand reached out to me about this collaboration and offered me lipstick palettes to review and two to give to my readers, well I was ecstatic. I’m a brunette but that doesn’t matter when it comes to beautiful cosmetics.
Whip Hand and those beautiful bloggers collaborated to create GlamouRED and EmpoweRED to find a shades that would be perfect for any shade of red hair (or brown or blonde or gray as the case may be). I agree it’s harder to find perfect colors for redheads since they have such uniqueness but the rest of us can take advantage of that and make it work for us too. These palettes are brand new and just being launched; the first sale day was Monday March 18th. While they call GlamouRED the night palette and EmpoweRED the day palette, I just think they are beautiful lip shades that you could wear whenever you want.
When you purchase one of these palettes you’ll get 4 gorgeous lip creams as well as a Stilazzi covered lipbrush ($49). The pans in these are removable so if you finished one or wanted to replace it you can buy individual pans of other shades from Whip Hand ($9). Stilazzi brushes are excellent and are sold at Whip Hand’s physical store but not on their website, it’s valued at about $19.
Let’s start with DAY aka EMPOWERED
The lip colors look quite dark but they surprised me when I realized that there were slightly different finishes to the 4 colors so that I could get a sheerer look if I wanted or I could sheer out one of the lipsticks by topping it with another shade. These don’t have individual names. The colors, in my words, are cherry which has a slight sheen to it, dark pink, glossy warm pink and a coral red. Whip Hand calls this their cool lip creme palette. Swatches on my fingers and arm are actually darker than they appear on my lips.
NIGHT aka GLAMOURED contains warmer reds
I was absolutely positive that I would only like EmpoweRED so when Whip Hand offered to send me a palette that’s what I picked. But they knew better and sent me GlamouRED to prove what gorgeous shades these are. Looking at the pictures of my fingers, the colors in my words are a cherry red but it’s brighter than the cherry in the other palette, a golden top coat which is used to make this go from day to night, a sheer coral, and a warm pink that’s brighter than the one in Empowered.
Besides shade differences I find that GlamouRED has 2 brighter shades and 2 light shades where EmpoweRED are mostly the same intensity. Either way, how could you go wrong?
As much as I think the Vendetti ladies are amazing for what they’ve done for redheaded beauties I have to totally disagree with them when they said: “We are proud to announce that we have teamed up with Whip Hand Cosmetics to create lip palettes exclusively for redheads! “. These are NOT exclusively for redheads as this brunette proves. They are amazing for redheads AND for everyone else who loves a great lip cream and a fun company. — Marcia
