Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hr foundation – does it do what it says?

Not long ago a reader accused us of only writing positive reviews. I’m not sure what the problem is with that but we prefer to be upbeat and tell you what we like about a product while also pointing out what didn’t work for us. There is nothing in the world of cosmetics that’s going to make 100% of us happy. That’s why we read more than one review to decide if something would work for our skin or not.

An item that was recommended to me was Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 HR Foundation with Comfort Serum. I’ve been on a cosmetic board with this woman for years so I knew what her taste was like. She compared this to my beloved IT Cosmetics CC+ so I just had to test it and see if anything could match up to that. The first thing to note is that this is a new foundation with an old name. It’s been reformulated according to Rimmel London.

The next time I was at CVS I picked it up (love their beauty coupons and beauty club!!) in the lightest shade they carried, 091 Light Ivory. On the Rimmel London website they show this is available in 11 shades from 010 Light Porcelain to 400 Natural Beige but at CVS I only noticed about 7 shades. This is not a foundation that is meant for women of color obviously.

Does this compare to IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream? Yes and no. It’s a much fuller coverage even though Rimmel calls it a medium coverage. It covers very well and hides most of the redness on my face. The only concealing I have to do is under my eyes. It has an SPF of 20 while IT has an SPF of 50.

Does it last all day? I have no intention of testing this for 25 hours to find that out but I have worn it on days that last 14-15 hours and haven’t had to touch it up at all.

As you can see on my hand it’s a great match. I was wavering between 091 Light Ivory and 100 Ivory in the store. It’s a pain not being able to swatch there! I went with Light Ivory since it was less yellow. When I held the bottles up to compare I felt that Light Ivory might be too pink but luckily it’s not.

When I got home and decided to do some photography that’s when I went to make sure I had my receipt. I was absolutely certain that I’d be returning this because of the fragrance I noticed as soon as I opened the jar. The smell lingered on my hand so I was concerned. But I wore it anyway figuring I could wash it off – but I barely noticed the fragrance once on my skin. I was (and am) thrilled about that. I’ve worn it a dozen times since I bought it and it’s never been a problem. Most days I switch between this Rimmel foundation and the IT CC+ Cream.

Rimmel says that this is sweat, heat, humidity and transfer proof for up to 25 hours. I think they make a good point here. I haven’t had any problems no matter the temperature. I feel that I’m going to enjoy this more though when autumn actually arrives and it’s not as hot and humid. For $6.99 or less this is a great beauty buy for me. While I’m sorry to disappoint that one reader, I’m happy that this is another positive review. As Sally Field would say “I like it, I really like it.” — Marcia

I agree with keeping the reviews positive! You can particlarly not like a product, but that’s no reason to bash it. I don’t like ‘hate its’ and ‘regret’ posts. Companies aren’t out there to provide us with bad products, they’re trying to put out good products. And their reputation relies on that. Not every product suits every person, and not every product is going to be perfect. It’s unfair to bash them for that. There are ways to say that a product doesn’t suit you without putting down the product, and in essence the company! Thanks for keeping it positive! 🙂 <3

This may be a less expensive alternative to my Covergirl Outlast 3-in-1. I may try this to see if there is any difference. Thanks for the review!

I think it has amazing coverage, and lasted well for me. It oxidized so bad on me, otherwise it would be my go to foundation.

Thank you Miki for your response. I really appreciate the kindness behind it. I know I shouldn’t get personal but I was hurt by the comment of the reader. There’s no way that I’m going to love everything just because they do and I don’t expect everyone for loving what I do. A blog post is a person’s experience.

Nothing lasts on my skin. I’ll have to check this out!

Fantastic review, Marcia! I have, and love, this foundation. Like you, I did not and would not test the claim that it lasts 24 hours, but it really did stand up to a full day of hard work during a hot snap!

Oh, how interesting, Marcia! IT CC Cream is probably the foundation that I wear most often too, and if this has even better coverage, I need to take a look at it. I think I see that it has a slightly lower SPF but for winter that wouldn’t matter to me. I’ll wait till my “tan” fades and checks this out!

I would try this since I love their Stay Matte foundation and its so cheap!

I’ve never tried any Rimmel foundations, but this sounds like a good one!

I see nothing wrong with positive reviews! 🙂 I have wanted to try this foundation for a while and I think its time to pick one up. I also love the IT CC+ foundation!

You do you. As long as you’re being honest, that’s all that matters to me. I like nice honest better than brutally honest, myself! lol. This foundation sounds pretty amazing. I don’t like heavy coverage, but I do like having a foundation I can count on to stick around on my oily skin!

The Rimmel foundations I’ve tried have all dried out my skin but I don’t know that I’ve tried this one.

I’m always on the look-out for a fuller coverage foundation at a great price. This sounds great! I love that it lasts so long in the humidity too. Thanks for the review. 🙂

It sounds like a great foundation if it can last and last!

Never tried Rimmel but good to know it has serious wear time

I like that you mentioned the coverage – I’m always on the lookout for a good medium to full drugstore foundation. Rimmel rarely disappoints, too; I love their mascaras!

  17. Mai | 12th Sep 15

Hmm hopefully they have this in a shade that will suit me so I can try it out!

  18. Christine Wagner | 12th Sep 15

I am going to grab this to try. I am always sweating, so I needs to find a foundation that will hold up.

  19. Kristin Bassett | 12th Sep 15

I haven’t tried any of Rimmel’s foundations before, but this sounds great!

  20. Bailey | 13th Sep 15

I almost only do positive reviews too, so never feel bad about it. It takes too much effort to waste time on a negative review )most of the time!) I haven’t tried many Rimmel foundations, but I like their Wake Me Up formula so I’ll have to remember this.

  21. Kat Dinges | 13th Sep 15

I review both positive and less positive especially if it was something I was excited about that didn’t meet my standards. I like certain Rimmel foundations.

  22. Shipra | 13th Sep 15

This sounds lovely! Going to have to try it soon! 🙂

    Sounds like a good buy!
