Something interesting happened after the Makeup Wars team chose favorite oils as our latest topic – I started paying attention to them. This is a relatively new category in my life but now that I’ve started I’m wondering if I can stop. I have two products to share with you today and they’ve made a big difference in my life in the last month or two that I’ve been using them. One is for my hair and it’s Redken Diamon Oil Shatterproof Shine and the other is for my face and it’s Algenist Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil. I’m going to let you know right off the bat that I’m impressed, very impressed.
Let me start with my hair. When I first received Redken’s Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine to review I was at the end of a keratin treatment. I had about 3 weeks to go before I had another appointment and my hair was not very cooperative. It was wavy, frizzy and just generally ugly. During that 3 week period I started using Shatterproof Shine and knew right away that I had a product that was going to save my hair for the next three weeks. This is a leave in product that not only brings shine and healthier looking hair but its job is to strengthen hair.
The dropper allows you to get out a precise amount of oil so that you don’t waste this amber goodness. For my shoulder length hair I need 3 drops. I rub my hands together and rake my hands through my hair to evenly distribute it. Directions remind you to keep away from your roots.
This is a silicone free oil that is dry to the touch. It amazes me that an oil is dry but Redken Diamond Oil is dry. It contains Coriander Oil, Sunflower Oil and Apricot Oils along with Coconut and Olive Oil. On second day hair I just use two drops to tame the bottom if I want to flat iron. It protects my hair from the intense heat of my straightening tools. After I had another keratin treatment I still found that Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine gave me the look I wanted but with even more intense shine than before. I now use just two drops after I’m done styling – it finishes my hair off with softness. I rarely use hairspray on my hair, I like the soft, swingy look that Diamond Oil provides.
Once I fell in love with the Redken I was on the lookout for other products that I could possibly use for Makeup Wars. Just about then Algenist, which is already my favorite skincare line, told me about the Advanced Anti-Aging Repair Oil and sent that for review. Little happy dance here!
Now this is truly a first for me. I’ve used cleansing oils but an oil as a moisturizer is totally new to me and I’m loving it. I took it very slowly when I first used the Algenist Anti-Aging Repairing Oil. I cut back everything including my other Algenist skincare products and just used the oil for 5 days to see if my skin was going to rebel. Once I saw my skin reacted well to it I started applying it over the Algenist Retinol Firming & Lifting Serum. This combination is a glowing comfortable one for my daytime care. My skin feels softer than ever and even more rejuvenated. There’s a radiance that I’m seeing and my foundation isn’t rebelling by balling up.
I’m on a roll with these two oils and loving the rejuvenation I’m seeing. I’m going to thank the Makeup Wars team for showing me the light; specifically two light wonderful oils. Join me in seeing what treasured oils the other bloggers have found. You too might find a winner or ten!– Marcia
