Nars has been naming their eyeshadows after different locations lately. Admittedly I haven’t heard of most of these places so my latest acquisitions from Nars are almost like a geography lesson. Their newest powder eyeshadow duo is called Paramaribo which is the capital city of Suriname. Paramaribo features a tropical rainforest climate which makes sense when you look at the unusual colors of this duo. There is no dry season there making the area lush with the colors of a rain forest. Nars Paramaribo eyeshadow duo also contains 2 lush shades: Metallic Brass and Metallic Bronze.
My description of this duo though is slightly different. I agree with the brass if you think of brass as having a gold undertone to it. This isn’t truly a bronze in the same way that other cosmetic companies interpret bronze. This bronze is more like a true metal that you’d call bronze. With both eyeshadows there’s a green undertone. I’d described both shades as being burnished.
My last Nars review was for Taiga which also contained a green shade, unfortunately that duo was a the wrong choice for me because of the texture and finish of the shadows. Happily Paramaribo has the consistency of the Nars shadows that I’ve liked in the past. It’s extremely smooth to apply and glides on. There’s no glitter to this duo and while the shadows are called metallic it’s more that there is a gleam to them rather than a metallic finish. These shadows are beautifully pigmented and long lasting. To intensify the gold tones I’ve worn Laura Mercier’s Metallic Crème Eye Color in either Platinum (peachy champagne) or Gold (taupey gold) underneath. All I can say about that is WOW!
Nars Paramaribo contains two of the most unusual colors I’ve encountered. I don’t have anything like these in my collection (though I haven’t been wearing these kinds of shades for that long either). Whenever I’d see these colors on others I’d admire them but I never realized I could wear them myself. I’m here to say I can not only wear them but I can love them. So unusual but so fabulous at the same time. – Marcia
