I just got my latest receipt from CVS and was shocked to find how much I’ve spent on beauty there this year! You get $5 reward dollars back for every $50 you spend and I just got my 5th one back since January. Yikes. I’m not sure where it all went actually except that I did buy a lot of the new L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows and a few Maybelline Eye Studio® Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadows. In general I much prefer the L’Oreal to the Maybelline so after my first few Color Tattoos I stopped buying them. UNTIL Maybelline’s BARELY BEIGE CAME ALONG! I love Barely Beige. I think everyone reading this needs to go buy Barely Beige (well at least a lot of you!).
Maybelline Eye Studio® Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Barely Beige is a shiny light beige shade that works beautifully alone to brighten your eyes or works as an excellent eyeshadow base for your favorite colors. One of the new “looks” for fall and winter is the nude eye and plum/berry/red lip. Barely Beige would be perfect for a nude eye since it gives you color and light without adding a real “color”. I find it evens out the skintone on my lids and that by just wearing liner, curling my lashes and adding mascara I have a finished look. That shocks me actually. I love eyeshadow and applying eyeshadow and owning eyeshadow and buying eyeshadow. You get the picture I’m sure. So for me to say this is enough, it’s really saying something.
I’ve noticed people comparing this to MAC Paint Pots, specifically Painterly. So out came my Painterly and while I was at it, Soft Ochre. These are not dupes of each other. In fact I think they are very different. My Paint Pots aren’t new but I never remember them as being very creamy. I always felt they were stiff and didn’t apply smoothly. This particular Maybelline Color Tattoo happens to be very creamy and applies easily. I like to use a brush because of the length of my nails but I have used my fingers too. Either way I like the application.
Colorwise: MAC Painterly has a very pink base, sort of a yellow pink. It’s supposed to be a nude beige cream. On my hand I see the pink though it does look mostly nude on my eye. MAC Soft Ochre is described as yellow beige cream which fits what I see both on my hand and eye. I bought it mainly because I saw so many tutorials that started with Soft Ochre but it’s really too yellow for me. Maybelline Barely Beige is lighter than my skintone and has no shimmer at all though it is shiny. As much as I love my L’Oreal Infallible 24 HR eyeshadows they all have shimmer.
Price: MAC Paint Pots are $18.50 for 5 g/1.7 fl oz. Maybelline Color Tattoos range in price from $6 to $7.50 depending on where you buy them but there’s probably always a sale you can find. I paid $7.30 and then BOGO ½ to buy Rich Mahogany. I should have bought two Barely Beige instead though. I found mine in a new display at CVS with other limited edition products.
I’ve used Maybelline Eye Studio® Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Barely Beige non-stop since I bought it. I’ve used it alone and as a base for all my eyeshadows. It’s wonderful with the Anastasia She Wears It Well palette I recently reviewed. Powder eyeshadows seem to apply more smoothly, blending well and lasting incredibly long with this as a base. Are you getting the hint that I love this? I do and I think you would too. Maybelline may have called it Barely Beige but to me it’s Buy It Now Beige! — Marcia
