Good Morning Marcia, your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to blog about your favorite taupe eyeshadow. As always, should you or any of your IM force be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. Good luck, Marcia. This will self-destruct in five seconds unless your taupe eyeshadow is one that the Makeup Wars accepts as part of this mission.
Makeup Wars is a group of bloggers who have banded together to write reviews on the same topic. The first assignment by the “chief” is to pick your favorite taupe eyeshadow. Other assignments will follow in weeks to come. So what’s a blogger to do? There are dozens of beautiful taupe eyeshadows. Once picking an eyeshadow would the others rebel and refuse to allow me to use them. Would they no longer look good once I chose one to highlight? I’m accepting this mission though and giving you ONE of my favorites, after I consulted with Cinnamon Carter that is. With a name like Cinnamon (aka Barbara Bain, Mission Impossible 1969) you’d think she’d know browns at least.
After scouring my collection I’ve chosen to concentrate on Le Metier de Beaute Corinthian. This is my favorite of all my Le Metier eyeshadow collection and since it’s a taupe then it’s a given for this assignment. It competes in my heart with two other eyeshadows though – MAC Satin Taupe and Sunday Riley Burnt Eggplant. All three of these are cool toned taupe shadows and have some similarities without being duplicates of each other.

Corinthian, like most Le Metier de Beaute eyeshadows, has a satin finish that seems to glow on my eyes without adding any shimmer. It’s a buildable shade that works well with other shadows. The LMdB style (Couches de Coleur) is to layer eyeshadows. I do that when I have time but mostly with Corinthian I play it straight or use one other shade to layer with. Since I notice a cool purple undertone to Corinthian I like to wear it with other cool purples unless wearing it alone. One of my favorite combinations is to wear Bobbi Brown cream eyeshadow in Heather as a base with Corinthian lightly over it and then darker in the crease. Other favorites are to layer either LMdB Plum or TheBalm Come Hither Heather (from Shady Lady 3) with it. Both of those give me a cooler eye especially when lining with something like Bobbi Brown Violet or Black Mauve Shimmer Ink Gel Eyeliner. If I want to emphasize the taupeness of Corinthian I’ll often use Laura Mercier’s Metallic Cream Eyeshadow in Alloy as a base. Whichever way I go I’m always happy with the beauty and blendability of Corinthian.
I think I’m alone in my choice of Corinthian in the Makeup Wars since some people feel they look bruised in a shade like this. But for those of us who like that cool undertone this is a winner and will not self destruct on you any time soon. LMdB eyeshadows are $30 and can be purchased at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks and Bergdorf Goodman. I bought mine online at nm.com the minute I heard about it and I’ve never regretted that choice.
Now that you’ve all accepted the mission of the Taupe Makeup Wars you need to continue on by reading what the other bloggers have to say. Click the forward or backward button to go thru the whole list. I’d love to hear what your favorite taupe eyeshadow is in the comments. I personally can’t wait to go shopping and buy all the other taupes that my fellow bloggers have chosen.
