According to the Spring 2012 Pantone Color Report, this spring’s color palette is a blend of ‘pretty pastels, bold brights and natural.’ Well, Make Up For Ever is all over it, with a wide array of products in bright, pretty colors that are right on trend.
I have to say, I kind of gulped when I saw Eyeshadow #58 ($19):
Um….did Pantone say bright? I guess so!! I looked at this and thought geez, it’s so bright I might even struggle with it as a blush color…and as an eyeshadow?? Are you kidding???
But you know me, I had to give it a shot. With dark brown hair and brown eyes, I thought maybe it will look good…maybe I won’t look like I have rabbit eyes…maybe I won’t look ridiculous…
I paired it with another fabulous shade from Make Up For Ever’s color collection, the super gorgeous Aqua Cream in #18 ($22), a pearlized lilac.
This is just the most beautiful color. It’s very complex, and while it’s bright, it doesn’t look frosty or glittery on. It really makes your eyelids POP and your eyes look so much bigger.
I put the Aqua Cream #18 on the mobile lid using my MAC 242 brush, then I put the Eyeshadow #58 in the crease and v’d down onto the lid using my PixieWoo domed shadow brush. Then, using Bobbi Brown Eye Smudge Brush, I put a thin line of deep violet eyeshadow over the #58 and blended it in. I used a light pink for the brow, and Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner #13 (black) for the top lid. I used Make Up For Ever Black Purple 6L Aqua Eyes Pencil Liner ($18) for the waterline.
How did it turn out?
It’s far more dramatic than my usual look, but I ended up really liking it.
Above is a picture in direct sunlight. It’s definitely bright and it’s not a daytime look for me, I could not wear this to my day job as a high school counselor. But for a night on the town it’s a great look, even for my 40-something eyes.
Above is taken outside, but not in direct sunlight. See how the Aqua Eyes #18 makes those lids just pop?
