Make Up For Ever Color Flash: Eyeshadow 58 and Aqua Cream 18 review and swatches

According to the Spring 2012 Pantone Color Report, this spring’s color palette is a blend of ‘pretty pastels, bold brights and natural.’  Well, Make Up For Ever is all over it, with a wide array of products in bright, pretty colors that are right on trend.

I have to say, I kind of gulped when I saw Eyeshadow #58 ($19):

Make Up For Ever eyeshadow/blush 58

Um….did Pantone say bright?  I guess so!!  I looked at this and thought geez, it’s so bright I might even struggle with it as a blush color…and as an eyeshadow??  Are you kidding???

Make Up For Ever #58

But you know me, I had to give it a shot.  With dark brown hair and brown eyes, I thought maybe it will look good…maybe I won’t look like I have rabbit eyes…maybe I won’t look ridiculous…

#58 swatch – really? For the eyes at MY age??

I paired it with another fabulous shade from Make Up For Ever’s color collection, the super gorgeous Aqua Cream in #18 ($22), a pearlized lilac.

Make Up For Ever Color Aqua Cream 18

This is just the most beautiful color.  It’s very complex, and while it’s bright, it doesn’t look frosty or glittery on.  It really makes your eyelids POP and your eyes look so much bigger.

I put the Aqua Cream #18 on the mobile lid using my MAC 242 brush, then I put the Eyeshadow #58 in the crease and v’d down onto the lid using my PixieWoo domed shadow brush.  Then, using Bobbi Brown Eye Smudge Brush, I put a thin line of deep violet eyeshadow over the #58 and blended it in.  I used a light pink for the brow, and Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner #13 (black) for the top lid.  I used Make Up For Ever Black Purple 6L Aqua Eyes Pencil Liner ($18) for the waterline.

How did it turn out?

Colorful  eyes…hey, not so bad!

It’s far more dramatic than my usual look, but I ended up really liking it.

Above is a picture in direct sunlight.  It’s definitely bright and it’s not a daytime look for me, I could not wear this to my day job as a high school counselor.  But for a night on the town it’s a great look, even for my 40-something eyes.

Side view

Overall, I ended up loving the combination.  Eyeshadow #58 is right on trend for the season, and it’s versatile because you certainly can use it as a blush as well.  And the Aqua Cream #18 is truly stunning.  The color is fabulous, and the formula is amazing if you have issues with oily lids.   Try something new and check out the bright and beautiful springs colors at Make Up For Ever.  – Lisa
