I’m always writing about eyeshadows and I’m sure I always will. I’m a true geek about them. Unfortunately Marlena of Makeup Geek has that name but I think she’ll understand about my geekiness especially when it comes to the eyeshadows I have from her company.
When I was creating my favorite holiday look for Makeup Wars I had no problem deciding to use an amazing Makeup Geek eyeshadow named Envy. I’ve been able to create beautiful, dramatic eyes with this shade even though it’s not a typical Marcia shade at all. Besides being able to create this eye I’ve also been able to use the eyeshadow in other ways, especially eyeliner. Then I remembered that I used Makeup Geek eyeshadows in another Makeup Wars, this time the fall look where I used Dirty Martini and Poison Ivy. At this point you’ve got to realize that I really love my Makeup Geek eyeshadows.
I actually own 7 Makeup Geek eyeshadows but am just reviewing 5 today. I recently took advantage of the sale of discontinued shades and bought two more which I’ll incorporate into a review and eye looks in the future. My eyeshadows are all in the pan form because I have several Z palettes and they fit in so perfectly in a Z palette. I might as well save money ($5.99 for a pan, $7.99 in a compact) and be able to move shades around to create looks.
Here’s a picture heavy review of my 5 shades:
Envy – a gorgeous deep metallic green with a blue undertone
Dirty Martini – a matte olive green that to me isn’t very matte, it’s more satin
Poison Ivy – this is called a shimmery medium green but it’s not a green you’d see in a box of crayons, no matter how big the box was. This is much more complicated than that. I’d call it more of an olive shade. The shimmer is soft and not glittery, it just adds some dimension.
Moondust – while it’s called a metallic silver taupe on the Makeup Geek website, I find it to be the green version of taupe. It works so well with both Dirty Martini and Poison Ivy that you need this shadow if you like subtle greens.
Mercury – the MUG website makes this look like a beige shade but it’s actually a beautiful lightly shimmered silver.
I have nothing but raves for Makeup Geek eyeshadows and am looking forward to adding more to my small collection. They apply smoothly, have amazing pigmentation, and don’t have a lot of fallout. Plus the price is absolutely unbelievable for this quality especially. I’m sure you can see why I’m so geeky about these eyeshadows. I love that I can build a collection of them slowly and know that each one I get will be a fabulous addition to my collection. Have you tried any Makeup Geek eyeshadows? Share your favorites if you have. — Marcia
