Alert eyes with The Ordinary and Hylamide

One of my Pinterest boards is named “It’s All About the Eyes” and that happens to be my mantra. I’m always looking for new eye products whether they are eye shadows, eye liners, mascara, or eye creams and serums. That is where most of my money goes and that’s what I get the most excited about using.

Last year I was shopping at CVS and saw a display for Hylamide products. I’d heard the name and considered purchasing their foundation but once my eyes settled on Subq Eyes my decision was made. With my CVS coupon I purchased this $35 Eye Serum and promptly forgot about it. So me!!

Hylamide Subq Eyes

Once I started learning about The Ordinary and went to make a purchase of their products I remembered about Hylamide Subq Eyes and began using it. The two products I’m writing about today, Hylamide Subq Eyes and The Ordinary Caffeine Solution, are adjuncts to the other eye creams and masks I use. I use these in addition to everything else because “it’s all about the eyes”.

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution and Hylamide Subq Eyes

Starting with Hylamide Subq Eyes Advanced Serum. According to the company this is good for immediate and longer-term visible correction of under-eye aging, puffiness and dark circles. My eyes are guilty of all of the above. This serum is for under the eyes and not on your eyelids. I use this at night right after I’ve cleansed my face so that I can let it dry before applying more skincare.

Hylamide SubQ Eyes

This  fragrance free product is in between a serum and an eye cream in my opinion. It’s thicker than most serums. The bottle has a pipette for application but I find that it’s too thick to use it for that. I usually just use my finger to get the serum off the pipette. It’s very possible that mine is a little old since it sat for a good year before I touched it, so I’m not sure if the texture changed.

Hylamide SubQ Eyes

I don’t see immediate results of this eye serum but that’s mostly because I only use it at night but I do see the cumulative results with clearer skin under my eyes.

“Contains a Flavanoid Glucoside Bio-active to reduce the look of dark circles and puffiness under the eyes

Contains a Darutoside complex for a lifted upper- and lower-lid appearance

Contains a Waglerin-1 Peptide Complex shown to reduce the look of dynamic lines around the eyes

A novel technology that promotes better visible anti-aging results than Retinol with less irritation

An extraordinary technology that offers a lifted-look to the eye contour immediately with a lasting visible effect with continued use.”

Next is The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% +EGCG, a product I’ve learned to love. With all the talk about The Ordinary and especially this solution you’d expect miracles immediately. But give your eyes time to get the full benefits and you won’t want to stop using it.

Deceim The Ordinary Caffeine Solution

“This light-textured formula contains an extremely high 5% concentration of caffeine, supplemented with highly-purified Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside (EGCG) from green tea leaves. Independent studies have shown that topical use of each of caffeine and EGCG can help reduce looks of puffiness and of dark circles in the eye contour. Additional studies have shown that caffeine can also reduce the appearance of cellulite.”

I’ve known for dozens of years that caffeine is good for puffiness on our undereye area and I’ve used eye creams that contained it but this one is different. For $6.70 you’ll find a thin but not watery serum.

Deceim The Ordinary Caffeine Solution

You need just the tiniest amount. I barely allow any to touch my finger and it’s enough to do both of my eyes. I use this in the morning before I apply anything on my face. At first it feels a little oily, then a little dry, and finally it’s not noticeable at all. I definitely notice a difference in my undereye area on the days I use this. I’ve used it at night too though I live out of two bathrooms and I hate transferring products so it’s now a day asset for me.

Both brands are cruelty free and vegan as well as oil-free and silicone free. Both are products I’d recommend using. BUT… The Ordinary Caffeine Solution is the one I know I’ll keep up with after these bottles are gone. It’s a top seller for the brand and they have trouble keeping it in stock. I’m glad I stuck with it and I’m happy to see that it makes my mantra come true.  —  Marcia

That looks like a product worth trying. Never heard of this brand. I’m using Roc now, and this looks comparable.

  3. 25 Sweetpeas | 2nd Oct 17

Glad to hear one of these items actually works! You always see commercials for one but never really see real results and check ins after people start using them!

  4. Kimberly | 2nd Oct 17

I have been seeing these products popping up. I am intrigued. Now, you got me making an order for the Caffeine Solution. Thanks for your thorough review!

I’ve been wanting to try something from The Ordinary, but I don’t know what. As you know, undereye isn’t my problem area so I have to keep thinking about what to try. I wish some store would pick up the line because I’d love to see the foundation shades in person.

I absolutely love The Ordinary’s eye serum! I am on my 3rd bottle and it has really helped with my eye issues. I agree with you on recommending this one because it really does work and is really cost effective.

I HAVE to try this brand. Like, NOW. I love the packaging!

  8. Deborah Caudill | 2nd Oct 17

Thanks for your review of the two products. I think I will try the caffeine serum first because I love the price and the fact that it seems to really work. I definitely need help with puffiness and horrible dark circles under my eyes.

I really like the Caffeine Solution too, I do think it works best when layering with another eye gel especially since the weather is starting to turn a little cooler

  10. CosmetopiaDigest | 2nd Oct 17

I’ve heard very good things about SubQ Eyes. This will be in my next haul from The Ordinary – if I can bring myself to stop buying all the Argireline and the Niacinamide!

  11. Kathryne | 2nd Oct 17

I have that caffeine from The Ordinary but was not impressed unfortunately. Good to know tho that you had different experience

  12. Krystal E. | 2nd Oct 17

Interesting! I have seen mixed results on the blogs around but I am still interested in learning about these products for sure!

  13. Courtney | 2nd Oct 17

Eye related stuff always makes me anxious. It’s interesting to read what you thought of them.

  14. beautyin | 2nd Oct 17

@Kathryne – I wasn’t instantly impressed with The Ordinary Caffeine Solution but with time I’ve noticed that it makes a difference for me.

  15. Kristi V BeginNails | 2nd Oct 17

Never heard of this brand. I would love to see before/after photos to assess if it works (I’m a visual person). 🙂 Did it have a scent?

  16. Ehmkay nails | 3rd Oct 17

I’m so lazy about using serums but I should since I have so many samples.

  17. Phyllis | 3rd Oct 17

I didn’t see any difference in my under eye circles from the caffeine. Maybe I didn’t give it a long enough usage

  18. Anastasia | 3rd Oct 17

I’ve been wanting to try Hylamide for quite a while. After trying a few things from the Ordinary, I feel like now I have a better idea what to get from the brand’s more premium lines.

  19. Polished Hippy | 3rd Oct 17

    The caffeine serum looks great!

  20. My Nail Polish Obsession | 3rd Oct 17

I’ve heard lots of great things about the ordinary. I used an eye cream from rodan and fields and serums from glossier. Happy with both brands.

  21. Polarbelle | 4th Oct 17

Do you suppose you could use The Ordinary on the upper lids? I get puffiness in the upper lid but not the lower. I’m looking for something that will save my lids when they’re puffy with allergies.

  22. Katie Marie | 4th Oct 17

I need to try the Ordinary! I hear such great things about them, and that caffeine solution sounds AMAZING!
