Dan Read – the bulletproof foundation

Years ago an online friend discovered Dan Read Cosmetics and went slightly bananas. Actually not slightly, she went totally nuts over it. She started a craze on the beauty board we were part of at that time and of course I had to be part of that craze. I enjoyed the brand for about a year and then, like the rest of my life, I moved on to other things. Recently though Lisa started talking about Dan Read (non-stop I must say) and wanted me to try the foundation again. I had remembered two things about the foundation from the past – I loved the finish of it but the color wasn’t exactly right. To my delight Dan Read came out with a new shade to match my paleness. Thank you Dan!

The foundations are available in 6 color categories (Soft Ivory, Natural, Olive Fawn, Far East, Goldtone, Olive Sienna) and within each category there are a variety of colors. I’m in the Soft Ivory category and my new shade is FAIREST. I actually had Soft Ivory 1 and 2 when I had purchased it years ago and Soft Ivory 1 was a decent match but Fairest is a perfect match since it doesn’t have any yellow undertones. Very often when I find a foundation that is light enough for me it also has a lot of pink to it which means it’s not a great match. Fairest doesn’t have pink or yellow. It’s just the fairest in the land (to misquote Walt Disney).

Dan Read’s line was created for use in theater and television. They were developed before the “hi def” craze yet they are perfect for hi def so obviously Dan was before his time with his products. The foundation lasts beautifully, even for the Queen of Hot Flashes here. A little goes a long way too. I use my Beauty Blender sponge to apply this. I spray the BB sponge lightly and dab it onto the cream to pick up the color. I find that it takes only 2 or 3 dabs to do my entire face. Pre Beauty Blender days I used a regular wedge sponge which worked fine but to me there’s nothing quite as wonderful as my pink egg.

No matter what foundation shade you are I think you’ll find a perfect match with Dan Read. Even more important, you’ll find a perfect finish that lasts well during the day no matter the weather. According to Dan Read this SPF 15 foundation is Sweat Proof, Humidity Proof and Bullet Proof. If it can last through one of my hot flashes then you can believe that this last statement is true. – Marcia
