Suddenly the name Pantone has become a buzz word in the cosmetics world. Artists have always relied on Pantone for color accuracy and it’s been important for true makeup artists as well. But now it’s come to the masses and we will be influenced by Pantone’s colors and Color of the Year for a long time to come. In 2012 they announced it was Coral and now for 2013 Emerald has been coronated. The January Starlooks box (aka Starbox) is right where it belongs with beautiful shades of lighter coral and green.
Each month Starlooks sends a beautiful box they’ve curated of their own cosmetic line along with a surprise or two. So far the boxes I’ve received have all been quite different from each other, always filling me with surprise and delight.
January’s box contains a gorgeous peach blush called Cuty Peach, a brown eyeliner pencil, a Diamondline Eye Liner in Fancy (a fabulous light green), a dome eyeshadow brush and the surprise of a beaded bracelet by Abby Rose Designs in Emerald. Plus they always include a crystal to collect. I now have a small collection of these. They’ve changed their program a little which I’ll explain after telling you about these great products.
I’m trying not to pick a favorite but I’m absolutely loving Cuty Peach blush and Fancy Diamondline eyeliner. The blush is luminous and reminiscent of much more expensive blushes that I have including one from Sunday Riley. The peach has enough pink in it to be a universal shade. It’s not shimmery at all, it’s just buttery soft and well pigmented. I have to use a light hand with this but it lasts all day long!
Fancy Diamondline eyeliner is a beautiful eyeliner but I personally don’t use light shades like this. So how am I using it? As an eyeshadow or eyeshadow base! It’s so soft and smudges beautifully especially with the great Dome Brush included in the Starbox. The brush is very soft and does a great job of smudging especially. The other eyeliner is a brown eyeliner – what else can I say? It too smudges well but I like it as a straight brown eyeliner for my top lashline.
The bracelet was the biggest surprise. Abby Rose Designs is a shop on Etsy. (etsy.com/shop/abbyrosedesigns). Their motto is “The world around us is inspiring – a gorgeous palette of emotion and allure, both of which are incorporated into each Abby Rose piece. Inspiration can be drawn at a moment’s notice – from texture, color, or even a fleeting thought.” Beautiful sentiments and a nicely made piece of costume jewelry just right for this season. (Plus I’ll finally have something green to wear on St. Patrick’s Day!!).
Here’s how Starlooks/Starbox has changed (or maybe it was there all along and I didn’t notice it!!). You can accumulate Star Dollars through purchases. For every dollar you spend you receive a star dollar. 100 points gives you $10 Star Dollars towards a purchase. They ship for free (unless your package is over 10 lb.) and the prices of their products are very reasonable. The eyeliners are $8, the blush is $12, the brush is $15. The Abby Rose Design bracelet sells for $15. The box costs $15 each month and if you miss a box they often have them still for sale for $25. The January box has a value of $58. I received this box from the company for review but I’m having so much fun with it that I’ve now subscribed to Starlooks/Starbox to see what other treasures they’ll be bringing me starting in February. This box of beauty is definitely worth the fun that the $15 will bring. — Marcia
