Two Kryolan Cosmetics favorites: Concealer Cube and High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine

If you have only explored drugstore or department store makeup, you are missing a whole world of fantastic products.   Niche lines and theatrical lines have some pretty amazing options that are often far superior (as well as far more affordable) than their mass-market counterparts.  One of my favorite such lines is Kryolan Cosmetics.

Kryolan City Store natural lighting area

Marcia and I visited the huge cosmetics-candy Kryolan City Store in Chicago a few months ago (read about our visit here).  While I was there, I picked up some things (of course!!) and I loved everything I got.  Two in particular are major standouts for me:  the Concealer Cube ($30) and the High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine ($18).

Kryolan Concealer Cube

The Concealer Cube is a cube with concealer on the top and loose powder on the bottom.  The top houses two different colors of concealer, one lighter and one darker.  The two colors make it very versatile, as you can either mix them together to get the perfect shade, or use the lighter for highlighting and the darker for shading.  Pictured below are some very heavy swatches, the concealer is definitely more sheer than this but coverage can be built up easily.

The formula is terrific.  It’s a cream concealer that gives medium to full coverage.  It has tons of pigment, so you don’t need a lot.  And the concealer does not have mineral oil in it, which is a good thing.  Mineral oil in concealers tends to dry out my under eye area and make it look crepey.

The top twists off, and underneath is the loose powder.  The powder is soft and very finely milled, it really sets the concealer and helps it stay all day.

Pretty cool - love the separate compartments for the concealer and the loose powder

It also helps make sure the concealer doesn’t crease at all, and the lighter color assists in lightening darker areas without any unnatural looking shine or shimmer.

Overall, this is a truly terrific product that is effective, versatile, and affordable.

While we were at the Kryolan City Store I asked Ulrike Bege, make up artist extraordinaire, which lip product she recommended.

She didn’t even hesitate and pulled out the High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine in Sunrise for me.

Kryolan High Gloss Brilliant Lip Shine

I absolutely adore this color.  It’s the perfect pink – not too dark, not too light, with fabulous gold shimmer.

And the texture is flipping amazing.  It has a great feel to it, slick without any stickiness at all.  It does have a beautiful shine, and the shimmer is extremely fine and complex.  It has Mica pearl pigments in it that gives it is a shimmer like no other lip gloss.

I think this just might be my most favorite lip gloss of all time.  The only thing that keeps it from being PERFECT is it has a lip brush, not a doe foot applicator (just a personal preference, the lip brush doesn’t splay out like the old Bobbi Brown applicators).

If you haven’t already, I really recommend that you try some niche theatrical lines like Kryolan.  There are all kinds of treasures to be found that are definitely work looking for.  – Lisa

Love that gloss color! Glad to hear is doesn’t splay like the old BB ones did. That’s always the first thing that pops into mind when I hear a gloss has a brush for an applicator.

  2. Sunrise looks very very pretty! Great post!
