Top Ten Tuesday – favorite concealers

Every other Tuesday the Top Ten bloggers share items we’d like you to know about. Concealers are something very few of us can live without. As I age it seems that there’s more to conceal. I’m not ready to give up the fight. These are concealers that I own and use all the time. Can you find 10 that you love? — Marcia

1. YSL Touche Eclat – Technically this is not a concealer, it’s a highlighter. But I find that it gives me a lift with its luminizing quality that takes people’s eyes (or my mind) away from the dark circles. Unfortunately the price keeps going up on this but one can last me for a year so the $40 that it costs is more than worth it. I buy and I try every product like this but none seem to compare.

2. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer – I’ve mentioned this concealer about 254,690 times on Beauty Info Zone. It was a miracle when I first discovered it and it remains a miracle to this day. Absolutely a favorite of mine.

3. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate* – This is the newest concealer from IT Cosmetics and it’s much more heavy duty than the original. It’s actually a “corrector” which you can use to conceal or correct.

4. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Skin Conceal* –  When I need true concealing then I pull out this OCC Concealer. It’s incredible since it comes in 12 multi-ethnic shades, is paraben free, is cruelty free and is free of all the other nasties. This $20 pot will last you forever since it’s so concentrated. I wear this in Y1 (light yellow based skintone) and in RO (palest red based skintone) though not at the same time.

5. Benefit Fake-Up – When I bought this I had some misgivings. I hadn’t had a lot of luck with Benefit but there was something about it that appealed to me. I ended up using it almost every day this past summer. The outer core is an eye balm with the inner core being the concealer. It’s moisturizing and a double duty product. I probably need more moisturizing now that it’s colder so I should start using it again.

6. Senna Highlight Concealer – As much as I love this Senna Concealer in Lite, I miss the original concealer that got me stuck on Senna – Cameo. Luckily I have some in my possession. The light peach of Cameo counteracts my dark circles. I’ve used up at least 3 of them. Lite is close but not quite peachy enough. Yet it’s a great creamy concealer.

7. Three Custom Colors aka 3CC – This is another concealer that I’ve used for quite a while though I haven’t bought it recently. It’s very creamy and doesn’t settle into my undereye creases. It also can be used as a foundation using a damp sponge and patting it on your skin. On the 3CC website it comes in 10 colors including two very dark shades which is nice for a change.

8. Tarte Smooth Operator* – Tarte’s concealer in stick form is an affordable alternative to Cle de Peau and Le Metier de Beaute in my opinion. They feel and look similar on my eyes yet Smooth Operator won’t hurt your credit card. It’s one of their more full coverage concealers. I’ve been using this so much lately that I’m worried about finishing it which means more shopping (what a hardship!).

9. Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Waterproof Concealer* – Maracuja Concealer was my first Tarte concealer love and I haven’t forgotten it, I just cheat on it at times. I had to buy a backup since I’m so close to finishing my original. I love this creamy liquid for under my eyes especially.

10.  Dior Nude Skin Perfecting Hydrating Concealer – That’s a mouthful but it does what it says. This is a revamp of their original Dior Nude Concealer and this newer one is more hydrating than it used to be. Color and texture are the same so if you loved the original, you’ll love this one more. It was recommended to me by a Nordstrom MA that I trust and she was absolutely right about it.

Well I could go on and on since I haven’t mentioned Dior Skinflash or any of my half dozen MAC Concealers but I decided not to cheat (this time). Have you used any of my Top Ten? Which concealer is your favorite? — Marcia

Now it’s time to find out what concealers the other bloggers love and want us to buy!!

Comments

  1. OK. Now i am lemming the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate! Of course I love your list. I have been meaning to try the Tarte Maracuja concealer for a while.

  2. I’ve been so interested to try Benefit Fake Up. I’ve played around with them in store but never end up buying for some reason. I’ll have to grab it next time.

  3. I’m so happy to see the OCC on your list!

  4. @Phyrra, I keep meaning to review the OCC and will someday. Lisa did a great review of all the shades and I took 2 of them since I’m so much more fair than she is.

  5. @Brooke – At first I had a love/dislove affair with the Benefit but suddenly I was using it almost every day. The colors aren’t perfect when you swatch but the lightest one does blend in really well.

  6. @Pink Sith – you commented on my two favorite concealer brands. The IT Concentrate is for heavy duty use while Tarte Maracuja is a great everyday concealer, especially under my eyes.

  7. I must try that BeneFit Fake Up! It sounds great!!! I also see you mention Senna a lot and I am intrigued by their brand and the concealer! Nice choices!!! 🙂

  8. Great list! It’s funny how we have a few similar favorites. I swear by Bye Bye Under Eye now that winter is here and I am wearing more makeup. I’ve got to check out the new corrector.

  9. I want to try that OCC concealer!

  10. @Christine, the OCC concealer is thick so I usually put it on with some eye cream. It works so well.

  11. @Pammy, if you test the Benefit you’ll find it dark but like your swatches, it’s different on the eyes. I’m so disappointed that Senna discontinued the Cameo shade. It was the perfect peach for me. I like the others but not like I like Cameo.

  12. So funny–when I looked at my review on Ouche Éclat it was $40 in 2009 & I think that’s what I paid this summer; so the price is fairly stable. Expensive but so worth it! 🙂 need to look into that new IT Corrector–haven’t seen it yet.

  13. I got the Benefit Fakeup Concealer in my Birchbox and I LOVE it.

  14. Sorry– Touché Éclat (gotta love auto-correct)!

  15. I love Touche Eclat for the inner corners and use theBalm’s Time Balm concealer for the under eye area. Never creases, conceals well and stays on forever. I need to try some of the concealers in your list, such as OCC!

  16. I was wondering if you had to choose just one Tarte concealer which would you choose?

  17. Yikes Jacca!! I’d choose Smooth Operator but only because I have others like Maracuja. The Smooth Operator is a stick and I like it better than other stick concealers.

  18. Renu, I have Time Balm which I’ll look for today. So many blogs mentioned it and I haven’t used it in forever.

  19. @Nancy, I was paying $36 for Touche Eclat and later $38 and then $40.

  20. @Cassie, I’ve never gotten anything like Benefit in Birchbox. I got a Chella highlighter recently but it was the second time they sent it.

  21. Thankyou.I currently use the Maracuja by way of your review on it last year and is best I’ve ever used for coverage. I’m getting low and was debating on trying a different one from their line.

  22. Have used Lancome’s maquicomplet for years. Stays where you put and doesn’t emphasis lines.

  23. @Linda, I used Lancome a long time ago but for some reason I just never go to a Lancome counter.

  24. @Jacca, definitely try a different one just to compare. I rebought Maracuja during a tarte sale since I don’t want to be without it but I love them both.

  25. cocochanelno1 says:

I have been on a search for years now to find the perfect full coverage concealer for my under eyes. Underneath my eyes, my skin is a bit sunken in, kinda. which casts a dark shadow. I am never puffy. Take that shadow combined with some nature darkening, leads to some dark under eyes! lol
I have tried all Chanel concealers, Estee Lauder. YSL Eclat and Dior Skinflash. They all worked okay, but did not give me quite enough coverage. The area still stayed pretty dark. Plus they all creased 🙁 So during Sephora’s VIB 20% off event, I bought Dior HydraLife for the eyes. I also bought Perricone MD Vitamin C. I must tell what a miricale for the sking the Vitamin C is! My under eye darkness has significantly disappeared!!! And Dior’s Hydralife covers my darkness! That is also with minimal creasing! Both of these products together are miracles in a bottle for me. If you have dark under eyes and have been going thru product after product trying to find the one that makes a difference, try it! It’s the one of the best investments I have ever made for my face!! They are both now my HG and I refuse to live without!!!!
