Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Julie Carroll, along with her husband, found a hole in the market and set out to fix it. They are a family of snowboarders, skiers, surfboarders and swimmers who disliked what the harshness of sun, cold and wind did to their lips. Putting on a lip balm outside in winter means removing both gloves to open and apply and dealing with a small cap that could easily fall. The creators wanted something that was more conducive to being used outdoors so they created Vault Retractable Lip Balm with its one handed applicator. Once outdoor enthusiasts discovered the ease of use as well as an awesome balm, a star was born. Vault Retractable Lip Balm has gone from their sports balm ($4.95) to tinted balms ($9.00) for those of us who enjoy that protection as well as a light application of color at the same time.
Vault Tinted Lip Balms with SPF 15 come in 10 shades from red to yellow to blue and clear. All have fun California type names since the Carroll’s are from Newport Beach, CA. Mine is Bikini, a light pink shade. Newport is a light blue while Napa is a wine shade. The feel on my lips is balmy and moisturizing but not waxy. The packaging on this is fabulous. The first time I used it I was a little confused but now it’s a total breeze to use.
Three easy steps: PUSH the plunger (the bottom half) until the tip locks in place; TWIST the plunger to deliver more lip balm; CLICK the trigger to release the tip which closes it back up. Stick it in your pocket and it’s done. Nothing to fall off or lose.
The Tinted Lip Balms, with a color palette inspired by the beaches of Orange County and snow covered mountains of the Sierra, are formulated with SPF 15 and natural ingredients including Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Almond Oil, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter and Vitamin E to moisturize and protect lips, while adding a pop of color.
After the lip balms were created they brought their unique applicator to the cosmetic world and created lip glosses ($16). What woman doesn’t love her lip colors? This time there are 16 shades that all look amazing. I’ve got Triple Espresso which looks brown on the website but it’s actually a shimmery peachy nude. This would look amazing on someone gliding down hills or sitting on a beach in the summer. I’ve been wearing it either alone or over my Vault Lip Balm.
The lip glosses are formulated with Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E. My lips look plumper wearing this. I’m all for that!
I not only am enjoying the quality and colors of Vault but I’m in awe of this creative family. I may not be an outdoor enthusiast (that’s an understatement) but I can easily appreciate the hole they filled in the market. I can’t wait to see what trail they take from here. Vault can be found on their website as well as at Amazon.com. Whether you wear these because of your outdoor activities or because your hands are full from work or fun, you’ll find these handy and easy to use. — Marcia
