Nail polish greats of 2016

nail-polish-graphic-stock

It’s very difficult for me to narrow down my favorite polishes of the year but since I adore polish and want to be an accomplished nail painter at some time in my life I decided to share half a dozen of my favorites. Leaving something out doesn’t mean I love it any less, just that I didn’t have room for it!

SPARITUAL GOLD in RISING SPIRIT – The bottle belies the beauty within. A subtle but stunning gold that wears magnificently and even repels smudges!

KBSHIMMER FALL 2016 POLISHES make it impossible to choose just one. I love every single one of these. KBShimmer is an astonishing nail company and a brand you shouldn’t miss. I’m sharing The Best Mum Ever as my choice but it was hard to pick. If Oh My Ganache had photographed better that’s what I’d have shown you.

LAUREN B ROSE BOWL stole my heart with its metallic red. I love all the Lauren B polishes I’ve tried but this takes me back to my all time favorite: cool toned red!

Speaking of how much I love red I’ve chosen Dr.’S REMEDY REVIVE RUBY RED. This shimmer infused crimson polish is made by a podiatrist: “Dr.’s Remedy is the first nail polish that received approval from the American Podiatric Medical Association. It doesn’t contain any harmful ingredients likeFormaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, Phthalates, Parabens, or camphor. It’s even recommended as a post treatment follow-up to nail fungus and ingrown nails. To top it off it comes in 30 beautiful shades.”

I’ll cheat and throw in another Dr.S Remedy polish that is so spring perfect that it makes me long for the sun: BOUNTIFUL BLUE.

I needed to add a pink because I’m a pink girl at heart. Unfortunately one of my favorite pink shades was Limited Edition but you never know if it’s still available. SALLY HANSEN MIRACLE GEL FLOWER CROWN is one of the best I wore this year. It’s described as a pearlescent petal pink which is a perfect description.

Since I prefer a polish that is holographic it’s easy to understand why KBShimmer makes another appearance on this list. This time it’s ALONG FOR THE TIDE from Summer 2016. I see shifts from pink to violet and from blue to purple.

Last is from Trust Fund Beauty, another brand that I’ve loved the polishes from. The one that stands out most to me is DIRTY THOUGHTS (although the pink Do U Know Who My Father Is could be the perfect cream color).

A trio of Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polishes

Trust Fund Beauty Nail PolishesLast month, Marcia introduced Trust Fund Beauty, a 7 Free, Vegan, Cruelty-Free nail polish line (they also carry lipsticks) with THIS POST. The polishes have no toulene, formaldehyde, lead, nickel, phthlates, or any toxic ingredients. Marcia’s review was my first glimpse of this line, which is a young indie company.

Marcia gave her thoughts on two different shades and today I have my thoughts on those shades plus one more. The polishes wear extremely well and the colors are really gorgeous.

Trust Fund Beauty Do You Know Who My Father Is?

Trust Fund Beauty Do You Know Who My Father Is?

Do U Know Who My Father Is? ($15) has an awesome name – love it!  While I normally adore pastel pinks, this was my least favorite of the three shades. It’s extremely pretty and feminine, but it is not easy to apply. I found it to be rather thick and definitely tough to apply evenly. While the color is fabulous, this is one polish that I will only trust to the professionals for application.

Trust Fund Beauty Dirty Thoughts

Trust Fund Beauty Dirty Thoughts

Dirty Thoughts ($15) is a funky polish that is great for getting your glitter on. It’s an opaque purple-copper with tiny multi-colored glitter, which sounds wild but it doesn’t come across that way. It’s a fun shade, especially for summer since it really pops in the sunlight.

Trust Fund Beauty Should Come With a Warning

Trust Fund Beauty Should Come With a Warning

Should Come With a Warning ($12) is, in my opinion, perfection for summer. I have ‘thing’ for coral pink summery shades and the shimmer ups the fun factor. It’s almost impossible to mess up the application, and the shade is truly amazing for a pedicure. My favorite of the three!

Overall I am extremely impressed with the Trust Fund Nail Polishes and I can’t wait to try more shades – Adult Content, Resting Bitch Face, Why You Mad Tho, and Hungover & Pretty are calling my name!!  – Lisa

Makeup Wars loves spring nail polish shades

A topic after my heart! Nail polish. I love nail polish and have a collection that’s growing by leaps and bounds. Spring and summer shades are ones I can’t get enough of. This year I seem to be enamored with pink – all shades of pink. Last year it was blue but this year it’s all about the pink although I’ll let a few more shades creep in since I like to wear a new color every week. Three brands are making the grade for me lately: Trust Fund Beauty *, Nine Zero lacquer, and Formula X from Sephora.

TRUST FUND BEAUTY: Dirty Thoughts, Do U Know Who My Father Is?, Should Come with a Warning

TRUST FUND BEAUTY: Dirty Thoughts, Do U Know Who My Father Is?, Should Come with a Warning

TRUST FUND BEAUTY is a brand that is 7 Free as well as being Vegan and Cruelty-Free. You won’t find toulene, formaldehyde, lead, nickel, phthlates, and other toxic ingredients. There are dozens of gorgeous polishes that cost between $12 and $15. It’s an indie company that you can be excited about purchasing from. The brand is only 2 years old and was created by a woman who launched the line in honor of her mother. I was sent 3 polishes and have worn two for a full week each. They are not only beautiful on my nails but even after a full week there were no signs of being ready for removal.

TRUST FUND BEAUTY Do U Know Who My Father Is?

TRUST FUND BEAUTY Do U Know Who My Father Is?

Do U Know Who My Father Is? is the perfect pink for spring and summer. It’s a clean refreshing cream shade that covers in two coats without any visible nail lines. They describe the shade as a ‘dusty medium pink’. I didn’t feel the dustiness in it, I just felt it was a perfect spring pink that I’ll love wearing over and over.

TRUST FUND BEAUTY Dirty Thoughts

TRUST FUND BEAUTY Dirty Thoughts

Dirty Thoughts ($15) doesn’t appear to be a spring/summer shade but it’s actually perfect. Trust Fund Beauty describes it as ‘An opaque purple-copper with tiny multi-colored glitter”. I’m not seeing the purple but I’m seeing a lot of the glitter. This isn’t brazen even though it has so much gold in it. I really love wearing this one even though I had to work a little harder to remove it.

TRUST FUND BEAUTY: Dirty Thoughts, Do U Know Who My Father Is?, Should Come with a Warning SWATCHES

TRUST FUND BEAUTY: Dirty Thoughts, Do U Know Who My Father Is?, Should Come with a Warning SWATCHES

Should Come With a Warning ($12) is the only one I haven’t had time to wear but it’s another great spring polish. It’s a pastel coral pink shimmer that on my longer nails will need 3 coats.

I’ve introduced you to NINE ZERO LACQUERS before and I’m happy to report that their monthly polishes are now available all the time. That takes the pressure off buying before the month is over. Their Nail of the Month polishes are $11 and are very special, while their regular line is mostly $10. All Nine Zero lacquers are 3-free, meaning no Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, or Toluene. Each bottle is hand mixed by Jessica of Jessface90 on You Tube.

I love the holographic glitter in these polishes. The shine is amazing, the wear even better.

NINE ZERO LACQUER April 2016

NINE ZERO LACQUER April 2016

April 2016 is a baby pink holographic with holographic silver microglitter added in for extra sparkle. I didn’t consider it a baby pink, I found much more depth to it. This stayed absolutely perfect for 7 days, not even a tiny flaw in it. The scattered hologram was strong and attracted the kind of attention I like. It took two passes of polish remover to remove but it was worth that little bit of extra effort. I love these polishes.

NINE ZERO LACQUER April 2016 and Full Bloom

NINE ZERO LACQUER April 2016 and Full Bloom

Full Bloom is a light pink jelly base, packed with silver holographic microglitter. The polish in the bottle appears much darker than it is on nails. I’ve got a wedding at the end of May and I’m saving this beauty for that day.

FORMULA X from Sephora is a favorite brand and one of the few non-indie brands I’ll buy. I’ve found them to be consistent in their quality. I fell for Ladylove once I saw the iridescence in it. After a long winter I was ready for a princess pink and this delivered.

I recommend any and all of these polishes. These three brands are among the ones I’m willing to buy again without hesitation. I hope you will too.  —  Marcia

Ipsy Glam Bag for September — Face Fashion

Ipsy Glam Bag, September 2015

Ipsy Glam Bag, September 2015

With IPSY’s GLAM Bag subscription you never know exactly what you’ll get. They’ll put out hints that show some options but you’ll still be surprised when your bag comes since we rarely get the same items. We all get the same cosmetic bag (this month’s is a nice golden brown for fall) and this month I believe everyone is getting an NYX eyeshadow palette called “Ipsy NYX”. For $10 a month including shipping you are going to get your money’s worth. Some months are happy bags and some months are just “eh” but it’s always a bargain.

IPSY NYX 3 shadow palette

IPSY NYX 3 shadow palette

The ipsy NYX eyeshadow trio ($6) turned into a happy bag item. I’m not always thrilled with the pigmentation of NYX eyeshadows but this time they came through. The first shade is a beige champagne with shimmer, the middle shade is a shimmery copper/bronze, while the last shade is a matte black. I was very pleased with how these swatched and wore. I didn’t use primer on my hand though I did on my eye.

I have to pat these on or else I’ll get too much fallout from the shimmer but I don’t mind that when I like the colors as much as I like this fall palette.

Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish (in my IPSY subscription)

Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish (in my IPSY subscription)

I was so disappointed last month when others received a Trust Fund Beauty nail polish so opening my fuchsia package and seeing a Trust Fund box made me happy. The color is a dusty dark lilac called Elegantly Wasted and I’m looking forward to wearing this.

One more full size product and this one is from City Color ($5.99) –  Be Bold Mascara. Be Bold comes in three formulas and I received Extreme Volume. I’m not opening this since I have way too many mascaras in use but I hope to review it along the way.

City Cololr Be Bold Mascara and theBalm Put A Lid On It eye primer

Two deluxe sample size products finish out my bag. The first is theBalm “Put A Lid On It” eyeshadow primer. I’ve got a sample of this and I mainly use it for swatches. It’s a very wet formula so you need time to let it dry before applying any shadow. This is a little more brightening than other e/s primers since it has light reflective properties. I’m happy to see this in my bag since I go through a lot of primer. (value about $6)

Avene Soothing Moisture Mask

Avene Soothing Moisture Mask

As the “mask queen” it’s nice to have one that’s new to me especially when it’s from a respected skincare brand. Avene Masque apaisant hydratant aka Soothing Moisture Mask will be a good way for me to try out this brand though I’ll save it for winter when my skin is more dehydrated. A full size is $26 for 1.7 fl oz while this is 0.16 fl oz making it worth about $2.50. I expect to get 2 uses out of it depending on how much I use.

Ipsy Glam Bag, September 2015

Ipsy Glam Bag, September 2015

September brought me approximately $38.50 worth of products that I’ll happily use. There are no duds in the bunch which is a nice way to start fall. If you haven’t subscribed to IPSY yet, I recommend that you do. For a while they were closed to new subscribers but they reopened the process. The worst that can happen is you’ll change your mind after a month and cancel if your bag is an “eh” bag instead of a happy bag like this one. — Marcia
