The Body Shop Drops of Youth Liquid Peel and Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-Gel

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Liquid Peel and Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-GelThe Body Shop is always a favorite line of mine not only because I love their products but also because I love their mission. They aren’t just here to make your skin better — they are here to make the world better too. The Body Shop was the first to engage in fair trade in beauty and they have had my heart since the 1980’s.                                                                                                           #TheBodyShopProvidedProduct

The Body Shop has two new skin care launches that are notable in their ingenuity. Of course, they are enhanced with products from The Body Shop’s Community Trade Program and the products are never tested on animals. They sent me these two new products, and for me one was a total miss and the other was a hit.The Body Shop Drops of Youth Liquid Peel

The NEW Drops of Youth™ Youth Liquid Peel ($25) is a gel exfoliator that peels off dead skin and excess oils. You smooth this on clean, dry skin, then massage it in for a few minutes. The gel lifts off all the crap that is clogging your skin, then you rinse it off for a smoother, less congested visage.  People definitely seem to like it –

Instantly feels like dead skin cells are lifted (88% agree*)
Peels off impurities and pollutants (88% agree*)
Skin feels cleansed from day’s pollution (86% agree*)
*when tested on 109 women

However, this didn’t work for me. It was fine up until the rinsing off stage. I could not get all the clumps of gel and dead skin to rinse off no matter what I did! I ended up using my Luna, rewashing my face, using makeup remover…I still have some remainders along my chin line. It’s just bizarre.  Maybe it’s my wonky skin and you will have a totally different experience, but this was a real bummer for me.

The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-GelI had a different experience with the Oils of Life™ NEW Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-Gel ($32). This is a gel eye treatment that has a light and airy texture. It’s really cool – you can see the tiny shimmers in it that also help brighten the eye area.   The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-GelThe Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Eye Cream-Gel

Again, people seem to really like this product –

  • Eye life for your eyes
  • Eye contour looks smoother – 100%*
  • Radiance appears revived – 96% agree*
  • Dark circles appear faded – 90% agree*
  • Wrinkles appear smoother – 87% agree**
*Results of Eye-Cream Gel self-assessments on the eye contour – 50 women
** Results of Eye-Cream Gel self-assessments on the eye contour – 100 women

And with this one, I agree! This eye gel/cream feels cool when applied and it calms down puffiness. It’s very hydrating so fine lines and wrinkles are plumped up and the tiny shimmers really lighten the eye area and counter any dark circles. Hooray, it’s a winner!!

You can find The Body Shop products at malls throughout the world as well as online.  – Lisa

Masks of the Month from The Body Shop

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Mask and British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Mask and British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask

Last month I introduced what I hope will be a monthly post: Masks of the Month. I started with ToGoSpa and their lip and eye masks plus Hada Labo Tokyo sheet masks and why I liked these. I’m all about masks and love to use them therefore this month I’m going to share with you some Body Shop masks that I was sent. Not everyone loves sheet masks but there’s an alternative, turn to The Body Shop for one or more of their jar masks. The Himalayan Charcoal Purify Glow Mask was particularly great for me at holiday time but also great since then.

The Body Shop HIMALAYAN CHARCOAL Purifying Glow Mask

The Body Shop HIMALAYAN CHARCOAL Purifying Glow Mask

This 100% Vegan Mask is muddy looking goodness. Charcoal masks are meant to deep clean and that’s what I like about it. I have pores but I don’t like pores! Therefore once a week or once every other week is very helpful for those getting the gunk out of my pores, especially the ones on my nose. Even though I exfoliate often my nose often doesn’t want to cooperate. The Himalayan Charcoal mask has helped with the cleansing I need.

Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

As many of you know I am phobic about fragrance so I worried about this mask but it has an intoxicating tea fragrance. Ingredients include Bamboo Charcoal from the Himalayan foothills, Community Trade Tea Tree Oil from Kenya, and Green Tea Leave from Japan.

Full Ingredients

Aqua/Water/Eau, Kaolin, Moroccan Lava Clay, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Alcohol Denat., Camellia Sinensis Leaf, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Pumice, Argania Spinosa Shell Powder, Phenoxyethanol, Xanthan Gum, Parfum/Fragrance, Charcoal Powder, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter/Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Limonene, Linalool, Methylpropanediol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Menthol, Disodium EDTA, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil/Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Citric Acid, Menthoxypropanediol, Citral, Geraniol, Coumarin, Caramel.

Himalayan Charcoal Purity Purifying Glow Mask ($28) can be left on for 5-10 minutes. In 10 minutes it completely dries down but isn’t stiff. I use a muslin cloth to wash it off and then continue with my skincare. The Body Shop recommends using it 2 to 3 times a week but I think that depends on your particular needs.

The Body Shop BRITISH ROSE Fresh Plumping Mask

The Body Shop BRITISH ROSE Fresh Plumping Mask

The other mask that I have from The Body Shop is British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask. When I first saw the words “british rose” I worried about the fragrance. Even though a mask is on for a short time my sensitive nose can pick it up all day long BUT this smells pretty darn good and I don’t mind it at all. This mask is the total opposite in texture of the charcoal mask as this one is gel like. As a matter of fact it reminds me of a jar of jelly. It’s soft and has little bits of rose petals crushed into it. Sort of like Valentine’s Day in a jar.

The Body Shop BRITISH ROSE Fresh Plumping Mask

The Body Shop BRITISH ROSE Fresh Plumping Mask

This too is 100% Vegan but it works to plump and moisturize your skin. The British Rose mask never dries down. It stays moist just like it wants your skin to feel. It’s especially nice if your skin is feeling dehydrated by winter winds and weather. The three key ingredients are rose petals and essence of hand-picked roses from Britain, Rosehip oil from Chile, and Community Trade Aloe Vera from Mexico.

Full Ingredients

Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Propanediol, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-32, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Alcohol Denat., Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, Rosa Gallica Flower Powder, Parfum/Fragrance, Sodium Hydroxide, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Methylpropanediol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Disodium EDTA, Rose Extract, Benzyl Salicylate, Menthoxypropanediol, Limonene, Citronellol, Geraniol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, CI 14700/Red 4

While I don’t feel that my face looks all glowy after using this it does feel hydrated. I leave this on for about 10 – 15 minutes before washing it off with a washcloth, either muslin or terry.

One reason I love to use masks so much is that whenever I notice that my face needs some extra help, whether that’s hydration, deep cleansing, or a fresh glowing face, I turn to a mask. It gives my face the extra vitality that I need to make a change. Are you ready for a change?  Try The Body Shop masks!  —  Marcia

Picks from The Body Shop 40% off sale

The Body ShopIt’s Christmas Day and I am shopping online because there are sales galore and I don’t want to miss out on them. One of the sites I’m looking at is The Body Shop. I haven’t been to a mall in over 3 months due to my recent fall and didn’t realize until Lisa’s recent review how much The Body Shop has to offer. But now is the time to take advantage of the sales and The Body Shop has the best I’ve found today. Here’s my list of what I’ll be buying or wish I was buying.

The Body Shop Satsuma Beauty Bag Gift Set

The Body Shop Satsuma Beauty Bag Gift Set

The Body Shop Satsuma Beauty Bag Gift Set has three travel sizes of their most sold products in the scent Satsuma. While this is available in other fragrances like Strawberry, Moringa, and Fuji Green Tea  I’m a fan of citrus so this is the right set for me. I’ll get that cute orange bag plus Mini Satsuma Shower Gel 2 oz, Mini Satsuma Body Butter 1.7 oz, and Mini Satsuma Hand Cream 1 oz. This is a great way to try these products from The Body Shop and a great travel companion. It was selling for $15 and now it’s $8!

The Body Shop Vanilla Chai Classic Picks Gift Set

The Body Shop Vanilla Chai Classic Picks Gift Set

I want the Vanilla Chai Classic Picks Gift Set just for that adorable apple it comes in. How cute is that? In the spring there’s always Teacher Appreciation Day and this $10.40 set would be perfect to give for that. 4 products are in this one: Vanilla Chai Shower Gel 2.03 oz, Vanilla Chai Body Butter 1.7 oz, Vanilla Chai Sugar Scrub 1.7 oz, and Vanilla Chai Body Lotion 2.03 oz.  It’s also available in green with Spiced Apple Classics Gift Set with the same products except in Spiced Apple. The Body Shop Down to Earth Palette

The Body Shop Down to Earth Palette

The Body Shop Down to Earth Palette has a mix of finishes. The shades are Sahara Dune (Matte), Aztec Gold (Shimmer), Provence Ochre (Shimmer), Bengal Granite (Sparkle), Peru Clay (Matte), Kilimanjaro Rock (Shimmer), Zawar Zinc (Shimmer), Black Canyon Onyx (Matte). It’s a great buy on sale for $21.60 from $36. But I’ve also got my eye on …

The Body Shop Down to Earth Eyeshadow quad in Gray

The Body Shop Down to Earth Eyeshadow quad in Grey

The Down to Earth quads that The Body Shop has come in Plum, Gold, Brown, Black and Grey. The Grey is different from my typical buys with India Rose Quartz, Atlas Rhassoul, Cerro Rico Silver and Siberia Anthracite and will be a great winter look. At $14.40 these are even more versatile because the shadows click in and out so you can switch colors in the palettes to create what you are craving most at the time.

Brush On Radiance in Pink

Brush On Radiance in Pink

I always admire “balls” but never want to put out the kind of money that the big name sells for. So The Body Shop has come to the rescue with Brush On Radiance in either Pink or Apricot. Normally $22 it’s now $11 so how can I resist the shimmering finish of these? “These magical little beads of iridescent colour give skin a luminescent glow.” I can’t nor should you.born-lippy-lip-balm-strawberry_l

Last into my cart is one of three Born Lippy Sticks in either Strawberry, Plum or Pomegranate. These are fun to have in your purse (on sale for $4.20) to always have color, moisture and shine.

While you are out and about returning and exchanging gifts or looking for sales like I am, The Body Shop is an excellent stop. You can’t beat the prices and the products are always top notch. Plus there’s the magic words “Free Shipping”!  —  Marcia

I’m wild about The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter

the-body-shopAs a long time lover of coconut scented body products I found The Body Shop many years ago thanks to their incredibly rich Coconut Body Butter.  You want super moisturized skin? This is the bomb-diggity. Combine that incredibly good body butter with the on point coconut scent and the powerful support of women and the Coconut Body Butter is perfection in a tub.  The Body Shop recently sent me a gift, a personalized version of the Coconut Body Butter – could this be any more beautiful??The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter  The Coconut Body Butter is actually a little thicker than butter and it leaves skin soft and smooth without any sort of a greasy feeling. Ingredients include Virgin Coconut Oil which comes from Samoa coconuts. The Body Shop works with Women in Business Development which helps teach local farmers new skills. The farmers crack the coconuts by hand and cold-press the flesh for this amazing ingredient. The other main ingredient is Shea Butter which is hand-crafted in Ghana by the Tungteiya Shea Butter Association. What makes my heart fill with joy is that this association is a group of over 475 women from 11 villages around Tamale, northern Ghana. The women make the butter from shea nuts, and this working relationship has provided these women the money to fund water pipes, medical care, housing, and education.  The Body Shop Coconut Body ButterThe Body Shop Coconut Body ButterThe end result is an incredible body butter with a truly addictive tropical coconut scent. It feels so good on my skin, especially when I smooth it on right after a nice hot shower. And it feels so good to know that The Body Shop, which is dedicated to helping others and to protecting resources and animals, has also given women around the world so much empowerment.

Right now the 13.5 oz mega sized tub is on sale. Regularly it costs $36, but right now you can get it for only $20. That’s almost two for one! If you want to get a personalized one like I have, just visit your local Body Shop store and you can choose from four different animal-rific designs.
So get a big tub for someone you love and one for yourself.  I know you will be as wild about the Coconut Body Butter as I am.  – Lisa
*sent as a gift from The Body Shop and I had to review it because it is amazing on every level!

The Body Shop At-Home Facial Mask Experience with the Recipes of Nature Collection

Recipes of Nature CollectionI think we could all use a little de-stressing right now, and The Body Shop has a nifty five-in-one collection of facial masks called the Recipes of Nature Collection.  Each mask is full of superfoods, 100%  vegetarian ingredients, and have no parabens, paraffins, silicone or mineral oils.  This is a beautiful set that will put you and your skin totally at ease.                                                                                                                                                                 samples

What I love about this set is the concept of ‘multi-masking’.  I love to multi-task…put the word ‘multi’ into anything and I pay attention.  Your skin isn’t typically all dry or all oily or all congested.  Some parts need one kind of help while other parts need a totally different intervention.  The Recipes of Nature Collection has five great masks that can be used together on different areas of your face…it’s what we call in the educational field ‘differentiation’, recognizing that everyone isn’t in the same place and we all have different needs.

The five masks in this collection include AMAZONIAN ACAI ENERGIZING RADIANCE MASK,  ETHIOPIAN HONEY DEEP NOURISHING MASKBRITISH ROSE FRESH PLUMPING MASKHIMALAYAN CHARCOAL PURIFYING GLOW MASK, and CHINESE GINSENG AND RICE CLARIFYING POLISHING MASK.

Recipes of Nature Mask Collection

The Amazonian Acai Energizing Radiance Mask is a gel mask with acai berry and guarana seed extract.  It is an exfoliating gel facial mask that revives and energizes the skin.  If you are really tired or feeling super stressed, this is the mask for you.

Recipes of Nature Mask Collection

British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask is another gel mask gel-textured moisturizing mask that plumps up dry skin and makes it super soft.  My cheeks are always so dry that I need this mask there…but my t-zone doesn’t need it.  That’s why the multi-masking approach is so perfect.  Ingredients include the ultra moisturizing aloe vera and pressed, crushed, and blended rose petals, which you can definitely smell right when you open the jar.

Recipes of Nature Mask Collection

The Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask is a beautiful honey based mask that moisturizes skin and improves elasticity.  Super dry skin will practically cry in relief from this combination of honey, marula oil, and olive oil.

Recipes of Nature Mask Collection

The Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask was the first mask I tried because I had a bizarre breakout in my t-zone.  This mud mask is a great decongestant for skin that pulls out toxins.  Bamboo charcoal, tea tree oil, and green tea leaves make this mask a total zit-busting treatment.

Recipes of Nature Mask Collection

The Chinese Ginseng and Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask is probably the most unusual of the masks, with a white almost chalky texture that exfoliates and tones skin.  It brightens the complection and reduces pore size with ginseng, rice extract, and sesame seed oil.

Whatever you skin needs, there is an answer within the Recipes of Nature Collection.  I highly recommend you pick this up and experiment with multi-masking.  And in some really great news, with the purchase of any of these masks The Body Shop will restore 1 square meter of rainforest through their new Bio-Bridges program. The ultimate goal is to restore 75 million square meters by 2020!  So you can feel good about feeling less stressed while also multi-tasking with multi-masking.  Sounds good to me!  – Lisa

Your foundation wardrobe just got bigger: The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops

adjusting-drops_m_lHow many foundations do you have languishing away in a drawer because the color is just a tiny bit off? Or are you like me, with many foundations in varying colors because the hue of your skin changes dramatically with each season?

Well, I may just have the product you need to save you all kinds of money and drawer space: The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops ($20).

There are two Shade Adjusting Drops: Lightening, which lightens and neutralizes yellowness, and Darkening, which deepens color.

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops Lightening

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops Lightening

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops Darkening

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops Darkening

They both come in a glass jar with a dropper. The drops are thick like a liquid or cream foundation, so unless you have a very thin foundation they don’t change the texture of the foundation. You can adjust the amount of drops to match the effect you need. For my example, I used Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge in Shade 03.

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops - Lightening on left, Darkening on right

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops – Lightening on left, Darkening on right

The original foundation shade is in the middle, and I put a single drop of the Lightening Drops on the left, a single drop of the Darkening Drops on the right. You can use less than a full drop — I find that a full drop dramatically changes the shade, so even though the glass jar is small the Shade Adjusting Drops will last a very long time.

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops

As you can see, the Lightening Drops did indeed lighten the original middle shade while also giving it a cooler tint, neutralizing the tiny bit of yellowness in Shade 03. One more drop and it would be close to porcelain – it might even be light enough for Marcia! The Darkening Drops were even more dramatic, giving a definite chocolate tint to the original medium shade. I found that while the swatch looks incredibly darker, it was still very wearable and forgiving on my current medium skin.

The Shade Adjusting Drops can come in very handy for a little contouring work, using the lightened portions to highlight upper cheeks and straight down the nose, with the darkened shade for the sides of the nose and under the cheekbones. If you have any sagging under your chin – the dreaded ‘chicken neck’ – a little darkended foundation will make the sag recede and give a great optical illusion.

Overall I really like the Shade Adjusting Drops. They are lots of fun! It’s awesome to experiment, and it’s been great to wear some of my favorite foundations that I typically save for the lazy hazy days of summer. I recommend picking up both, that way you are ready for any potential skin emergency.  – Lisa
