PerriconeMD Photo Plasma review and giveaway

Perricone MD Photo Plasma

Perricone MD Photo Plasma

I can almost guarantee that when someone mentions Perricone MD skincare that you think of Cold Plasma. Dr. Perricone has many great products but the one that he is the most famous for is definitely Cold Plasma. There’s a lot of love and a lot of not-so-love for that product and the main reason is that it can have a smell that people think is fishy. I’ve gone through two jars of Cold Plasma and I haven’t had that problem but I know of people who have. But now there’s the wonders of that product in an entirely new moisturizer called Photo Plasma. When this was sent I was thrilled to NOT smell it.

Perricone MD Photo Plasma

Perricone MD Photo Plasma

I’ve found so many benefits with Photo Plasma

1)      There’s no fragrance at all. Not a drop.

2)      It’s half the price of Cold Plasma ($69 for 2 oz). You can also buy a deluxe sample size of 0.5 oz for $20 at Sephora.

3)      Photo Plasma contains broad spectrum SPF 30. This was a problem for me when I used CP since it didn’t contain SPF and Dr. Perricone didn’t make one that I liked.

4)      Photo Plasma has a wonderful, lush texture yet it’s oil free.

Perricone MD Photo Plasma open

Perricone MD Photo Plasma open

5)      It contains non-chemical UVA and UVB mineral Titanium Dioxide sunscreen.

6)      It’s formulated with Vitamin C Ester and Alpha Lipoic Acid to help brighten my skin.

7)      There are no parabens in the formula.

8)      It protects against skin aggressors like dehydration, pollution, wind, cold, smoke, stress and chemical irritants.

9)      I can use one product to take care of my daytime moisturizing and sunscreen.

10)   It doesn’t interfere with foundation so no rolling or pilling.

There are a few things I’m not crazy about with Photo Plasma. This light pink moisturizer is a little tacky when you first apply it on so you’ll have to be sure you give yourself time to let it dry down before applying any foundation. Also because it’s in a glass jar you’ll need a separate applicator that you can clean in between uses. I keep a few plastic beauty spatulas near that I can quickly wash before and after use.

I’ve been happy though with the moisturizer and how my skin looks while using it. On my normal to dry winter skin it’s working well.

Now it’s your turn to see if Photo Plasma works for you. We were sent a jar for one of our US subscribers to win. Just use the easy Rafflecopter to enter. The giveaway is open through 3/28/14 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Remember that we check to make sure entries are valid. Good luck. — Marcia

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 – award winning skincare

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Restoring Night Cream

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Restoring Night Cream

For as long as I can remember I’ve read about RoC skincare as being extremely highly regarded in the world of beauty. It is always mentioned in the “Best of” lists and winning awards. As RoC ambassadors Beauty Info Zone is lucky to get communication from the company as well as some products to test. Lisa recently reviewed the Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Eye Cream after falling in love with it. Just as I was getting ready to review Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Daily Moisturizer and Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Restoring Night Cream, I found out that RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Restoring Night Cream had won the prestigious Allure Beauty Breakthrough Award. Perfect timing!

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 product line

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 product line

Not long ago RoC added to their skincare line with these new 5 in 1 products. They’ve taken RoC to a new level in their fight against the signs of aging. The 5 in 1 products have a skincare technology called HEXINOL that RoC created to improve the look of discoloration, sagging, dryness, dull tone and wrinkles. Now obviously this line is not for those of you who are still in your twenties but soon after you might start noticing some of these problems.

It took 7 years of research for RoC scientists to make the breakthrough discovery of Hexinol technology to target those 5 signs of aging. Personally I’ve got almost all of those signs and I don’t like it. With these RoC products though I’m beginning to help get past them.

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Daily Moisturizer

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Daily Moisturizer

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Daily Moisturizer

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Daily Moisturizer

Roc Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Daily Moisturizer contains Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30. There are 4 active sunscreen ingredients in this: Avobenzone (2%), Homosalate (4%), Octisalate (4%) and Octocrylene (2%). This covers both your moisturizing for the day as well as the much needed SPF protection your skin needs. It’s a lightweight formula that blends into my skin quickly without leaving any white streaks behind. I have no problem applying makeup over it – it doesn’t ball up under foundation. There is a sweet fragrance to it which at first bothered me. But within 20 minutes I barely notice it and after a while I’m not aware of it at all.

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Restoring Night Cream

RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Restoring Night Cream

For night use I’m testing the 5 in 1 Restoring Night Cream which is a very rich, lush feeling moisturizer. The two products don’t look all that different but when I apply the Restoring Night Cream I can feel that it’s much richer. Just what my skin needs to combat the dryness that I never thought would happen to me and my formerly oily skin. Here’s what RoC has found with the Daily Moisturizer and Night Cream: “In a clinical study, women saw noticeable improvements in the 5 main signs of aging in as little as 4 weeks:

  • Discolorations appeared visibly improved
  • Helped restore elasticity and firmness to sagging skin
  • Hydrated thirsted, dry skin
  • Improved overall radiance of skin
  • Smoothed out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles”

I test a lot of products so I don’t know if this is what’s helping the discoloration on my skin but I believe it is. My skin hasn’t felt tight and it feels more nourished. I kept away from RoC for so long because I was afraid of the fragrance in the products. Silly me, I’ve learned to let that first wave of scent pass me in order to keep my skin as youthful looking as possible.

RoC 5 in 1 moisturizers

RoC 5 in 1 moisturizers

These two products are nicely priced at under $29 each but with a little investigative work you can always find a deal. Save up those Ulta coupons, join CVS’s Beauty Club, or slip it into your grocery cart at Walmart. These will last for months until you have to replenish them so they really are a bargain.

Have you been a RoC aficionado? What are the products that you like best from them? — Marcia

Prolonging my summer with Rayito de Sol 2-in-1 Sport Bronzing Sunscreen Gel

I admit it…I am missing summer already. I am just a summer girl. I love the beach and the fresh air. I love glowing, sun-kissed skin. I miss it…so I am getting my summer fix from Rayito de Sol.

Rayito de Sol

Rayito de Sol 2-in-1 Sport Bronzing Sunscreen Gel SPF 15

I had heard fantastic things about this line, which just happens to be the top sun care brand in Latin America. So I was very intrigued when they sent the BIZ their 2-in-1 Sport Bronzing Sunscreen Gel SPF 15 ($14.99) to test.

Rayito de Sol is based in Argentina and it’s a family owned company that has been in business for over 90 years. This line is available in 15 different countries including the U.S., Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Paraguay. Rayito de Sol specializes in products that instantly create that ‘iconic Latin glow’. They are the first line with products that give immediate color plus SPF protection. They have wonderful looking products like lotions and sprays and I was happy to try the gel.

My initial swatch…it looks so dark!

swatch smoothed out

swatch smoothed out…still a little scary

after smoothing in, skin looking fantastic and glowy

The 2-in-1 Sport Bronzing Sunscreen Gel SPF 15 I tried is the Instant Medium Color. It also comes in Natural Color, which I am assuming is a lighter shade. The initial swatch looked soooo dark, I was a bit alarmed…but it definitely lightened up when I smoothed it in. My skin tone is somewhere in between light and medium, and this gel gives me a slightly deeper color with a lot more ‘glow’ than I normally have. The gel has an interesting texture that is quite pleasant. It has lots of slip at first and it feels slightly wet for a few minutes before drying down completely. Plus it has a cooling effect that lasts for about 20 minutes. I use it on both my face and body with excellent results.

Even if it’s no longer summer, we all still need sunscreen. Why not get a beautiful Latin glow while you are at it? All the wonderful things I read about this line were true, I was not disappointed. They’ve got the goods and I can’t wait to try the other products. And some really great news – right now there is a 50% off coupon for online orders – just use the code 50off at checkout. Keep that summer glow and stay protected from those harmful rays with Rayito de Sol!  - Lisa

Suntegrity 5 in 1 Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen is the definition of ‘multi-tasker’

Suntegrity 5 in 1 Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen

I thanked Suntegrity Skincare every day while on vacation this summer for sending the BIZ their 5 in 1 Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen ($45) to test. My family and I went to the ocean for two weeks and the last thing I wanted to do was wear makeup. My Suntegrity 5 in 1 did everything I needed without the heaviness of regular cosmetics.

Suntegrity was founded by Tricia Trimble, who lost her mother to melanoma skin cancer. Tricia realized the importance of sunscreen but wasn’t happy with what she found on the market. So she worked with a chemist to create Suntegrity Skincare. Tricia says, “Suntegrity Face and Body SPF 30 products use only the best known physical block ingredient (non-nano size zinc oxide) to provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection and super anti-oxidants and amino acids to enhance that protection and help with skin repair. Our products use non-toxic preservatives to maintain their integrity without sacrificing safety or health.”

Suntegrity has a #1 rating from the EWG/Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database, which also declared it one of the best sunscreens of 2013. But the 5 in 1 is far more than just my sunscreen…it is is my everything!

I love my 5 in 1!!

The 5 in 1 is a BB cream that does the following five wonderful things:

1.  Treat

It’s full of antioxidants to fight off those nasty free radicals.

2.  Hydrate

It keeps skin soft and hydrated with aloe vera, jojoba, sunflower, pomegranate, cucumber, and green tea.

3.  Protect

It has mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 30 coverage using zinc oxide.

4.  Prime

It smooths skin and gets it ready for makeup if you want – although it provides enough coverage to love it on its own.

5.  Cover

It comes in three different shades including Light, Golden Light, and Medium that beautifully even out skin tone and cover imperfections.

The 5 in 1 comes in an airless opaque container that is TSA friendly. It’s a perfect container that keeps the sunscreen stable and effective.

The airless pump and opaque container keep the sunscreen stable

The 5 in 1 works for all skin types and isn’t the least bit greasy or heavy. It smells wonderful, with a clean, citrusy scent.  You don’t need much to get perfectly primed for makeup or to get just enough coverage to look amazing without foundation. I didn’t have a sample of the Light but here’s the newest shade Golden Light.

Golden Light

5 in 1 in Golden Light

Golden Light is apparently close to the Light shade with more yellow/gold hues for ‘neutralizing redness and brightening sallow dull skin.’

Golden Light swatch

Here’s the Medium shade, which is definitely more for cool skin tones.

5 in 1 in Medium

Medium swatch

I can wear both shades and my skin tone is neutral. I find that the shades are pretty forgiving. 5 in 1 provides more than light coverage although it’s not heavy enough to qualify as medium coverage.

The 5 in 1 is vegan, non-toxic, and cruelty-free. It’s also free of Parabens, Phthalates, Propylene Glycol, Mineral Oils, Synthetic Dyes, Sulfates, Paba, Titanium Dioxide, Nano-Particles and Chemical UV Absorbers. If you have issues with chemical sunscreens this just might be exactly what you need. There are plant oils which some people can’t handle, but my skin adores the 5 in 1. It’s exactly the kind of multi-tasker that I need…and I’ll bet you need it too!  - Lisa

Just in time for summer, Makeup Wars chooses favorite sunscreens

Welcome to Makeup Wars. This is the week that we are drumming it into your heads that you need to use sunscreen. Not really but we hope that by sharing our favorite sunscreens with you we can remind you of the importance of using sunscreen and using it properly. I’m not a person who ordinarily goes out in the sun. My idea of getting my Vitamin D is by walking to and from my car or sitting in the shade when I’m outdoors. But no matter how I’m getting sun, I’ve learned that wearing sunscreen and using the right amount is paramount to keeping my skin looking more youthful. Yes I envy the friends I have who look fabulous and thinner with a tan, but I don’t envy their wrinkles and I don’t take chances.

Favorite favorite sunscreens: Algenist, Supergoop, B.Kamins Sun Defense

Favorite favorite sunscreens: Algenist, Supergoop, B.Kamins Sun Defense

I divided up my sunscreen loves into two categories: face and body. I prefer to use SPF that’s formulated specifically for the face and has a moisturizing effect at the same time. My three favorites are: Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum with SPF 30

Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum

Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum

Algenist Ultra Lightweight UV Defense Fluid SPF 50

And my newest: B.Kamins Sun Defense SPF 30 Lotion. Since I’ve previously reviewed and loved the first two for their lightweight coverage I’ll tell you more about the B.Kamins and why I like it so much. (This was sent for review.)

B.Kamins Sun Defense SPF30

B.Kamins Sun Defense SPF30

B.Kamins Sun Defense is both fragrance free and oil free which is what I look for in a facial formula. Of course it can be used anywhere on your body too but I save the precious stuff for my face. This provides both UVA and UVB protection and is especially good for sensitive skin. It has both physical and light absorbing sunblocks. Did you know that if you take certain medications that it makes your skin more photosensitive? That’s a big reason to use this sunscreen. I’ve always burned very easily and never before realized that medications could have had a part in this.

B. Kamins Sun Defense SPF30 swatch

B. Kamins Sun Defense SPF30 swatch

This has a very creamy formula and comes out as a peachy pink color. I like that I can see if I missed any spots. It takes about 2 – 3 minutes to absorb but from that point on I can put on any type of foundation over it. I find I don’t need any kind of serum since this does everything in one – it primes, it moisturizes and it protects. I love that there’s never a scent even if I get overheated later in the day. I haven’t had any reactions to Sun Defense. It’s a great formula that I’m happy to recommend.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreens

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreens

For my body I’ve started using the Neutrogena line. I was sent 2 Neutrogena sunscreens to test and now I find I have to share them with my husband. Darn it. My husband has had several basal cell carcinomas removed and his dermatologist insisted that he not only wear a hat but that he use sunscreen. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch was on the list he received from the derm of products to use. We both use this since I slather my neck and arms with it when I’m getting dressed in the morning and he uses it for his face, arm and chest area. What’s great about Dry Touch is that it’s Broad Spectrum with SPF45. Plus Neutrogena uses Helioplex Technology that makes its sunscreens photostable. Neutrogena makes the Ultra Sheer Dry Touch in different SPF strengths including SPF 45, 55, 75, 85 and 100. I recently saw a package of this at Costco with 2 regular size and 2 purse size which I’ll soon be buying.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen

The other Neutrogena sunscreen that I’m using is the Ultra Sheer Body Mist. This is also a Broad Spectrum sunscreen. I have the SPF 100 and it also comes in SPF 30, 45 and 70. What I love about the Body Mist is how easy it is to use. I’m at the mercy of a two year old who believes he should be outside all the time. I keep my Ultra Sheer Body Mist by the door along with a Twistband for my hair. I can spray it on the back of my neck quickly this way so I can play outside with him. It’s got a light fresh mist that doesn’t stain my clothes or get my hair wet. I can also give him a quick spray without him objecting although I’m going to pick up Neutrogena Wet Skin Kids since the small pool is about to come out.

So there you have my review and long winded explanation of my favorite sunscreens. I can’t wait to read what the other Makeup Wars bloggers have to share. I’ll be outside more this summer than any other so this is vital information for me. Please click on the logos to read more. Do you have a favorite? I’d love to know. — Marcia

Getting ready for summer with Jan Marini

Summer is coming…are you ready? Jan Marini can help you out. She sent the BIZ her Bioglycolic Sunless Self-Tanner ($28) and her Daily Body Protectant SPF 34 ($28) to test. Both get high marks as well as a place in my beach bag.

Jan Marini

Jan Marini helps get your summer started!

The Daily Body Protectant is perfect for the beach. It truly is extremely water-resistant, although it’s wise to reapply after swimming. This is a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects the skin from UVA and UVB rays. It works for both body and face since it’s oil-free and leaves a matte finish.

Daily Body Protectant SPF 34

This blends in smoothly and easily with no tacky feel afterwards. It really moisturizes the skin though and it also has Hyaluronic Acid, which helps keep moisture in the skin while also fighting free radicals. Plus, with an SPF of 34 it has plenty of power to keep even the palest skins safe in the sun.

self tanner

Bioglycolic Sunless Self-Tanner

The Bioglycolic Sunless Self-Tanner is truly special. This is not the type of self tanner that dyes your skin a darker hue. Instead it has amino acids that do a chemical dance with the protein in your skin, which means that everyone gets their own unique and very natural looking self tan. Not only is the color then perfect for you particular skin type, it also looks far more natural rich color that truly looks like it came from the sun, not from a bottle.

After Jan Marini Self Tanner

After Jan Marini Bioglycolic Sunless Self Tanner

I use this on my face and on my body. This self tanner is not only for color, it also makes skin healthier and has anti-aging ingredients. I will put this on at night after I wash my face, usually over my face, neck, decolletage and arms. In the morning I have gorgeous color that is just perfect for my skin. If I put it on in the morning, I find it takes about two hours to fully develop. Looking at my face without and then with the Bioglycolic Sunless Self-Tanner has definitely made me a devotee for life.  - Lisa

You can find Jan Marini products on their online site, at, and at various spas and dermatologist offices.

Be an Adventuress! Fearlessly Refreshing Facial Wipes and Sunscreen Swipes

If you spend any time on the go outdoors, you definitely need to check out the Adventuress line.  Their products help bring out your inner adventuress while keeping your skin safe and healthy.

Little packs that help me be an Adventuress

Fearlessly Refreshing Facial Wipes and Sunscreen Swipes are essentials for anyone who loves being out in the sun, but that’s not say they wouldn’t also be great for bar hopping.   These wipes would certainly make a morning ‘walk of shame’ look far less shameful.  They are perfect for any sort of ‘thrill seeker’ since they work for all types of skin, including very sensitive, allergy-prone skins.

Fearlessly Refreshing Facial Wipes

Fearlessly Refreshing Facial Wipes ($22 for 24 wipes)

These wipes cleanse your face, remove makeup, and protect your skin from irritation.  They are also biodegradable.  They are fantastic for the beach, it’s so nice and refreshing to wipe off salt and sand.  I keep some of these in my car and some in my purse, because you never know when you’ll want to freshen up or when you’ll need an emergency makeup remover.

They have no fragrance and are alcohol-free.  They are full of all kinds of great ingredients like Vitamin B3 and aloe vera.  I find many makeup remover wipes leave your skin dry, but these really are refreshing and moisturizing.  Nice!!

High Performance Sunscreen Swipes

Sunscreen Swipes ($24 for 24 swipes)

These wipes have the perfect amount of moisturizing sunscreen to refresh after working out or being in the sun too long.  They are individually wrapped in a ‘sealed finger pocket’, very clever!  You just open the packet, put a finger in the pocket, and swipe out the sunscreen.  These are great for your purse, just think of times you are outside longer than you thought you would be – shopping at an outdoor mall, or maybe spending the day in an amusement park and finding yourself in line for hours with no sun protection.  Any time you need more sunscreen these come in so handy.  They have no fragrance or parabens, but they do have a UVB absorber and a UVA/UVA blocker.  They also have aloe vera and Vitamin E to nourish your skin.  Like the Fearlessly Refreshing Facial Wipes, these are made so that all skin types, even the most sensitive, can use them with confidence.

all the info you need

I think the Adventuress Fearlessly Refreshing Facial Wipes and the High Performance Sunscreen Swipes are extremely clever and useful items.  You can find them online at  Take a look and embrace the Adventuress in you! – Lisa
