Hada Labo makes me happy but sad. I previously reviewed two products from Hada Labo Tokyo, Anti-Aging Hydrator and Skin Plumping Gel, and both are absolutely fab. I’ve already repurchased the Anti-Aging Hydrator since it’s made a big difference in the hydration of my skin. Today I’m going to review two more of their amazing products that were sent to Beauty Info Zone to test. So why is it that I love the products but they make me sad? Hada Labo Tokyo only makes 5 products…. that’s it. They need to expand their line so I can get in line to buy them.
Hada Labo Tokyo is the first Japanese company to bring mass market products to the US. It’s sold at Ulta, Ulta.com and drugstore.com but I’ve also found it at Walgreens. One day I went to Walgreen and stopped dead in my tracks in the doorway blocking everyone since there were banners for Hada Labo. I was so excited that I rushed to the skincare section to see for myself.
Two products you should look for if you are at either of these stores or sites are Hada Labo Tokyo Protecting Day Lotion SPF 18 ($17.99) and Hada Labo Tokyo Hydrating Facial Cleanser ($11.99). They come with the “Marcia of Beauty Info Zone” stamp of approval.
The Hydrating Facial Cleanser is especially wonderful for my skin since it contains hyaluronic acid. Now I’m fully aware that you are washing this away but I still love the fact that it includes this great ingredient. This is a foaming cleanser that starts off as a cream.
I’m not sure if you can see just how rich and creamy it is. Many times a foaming cleanser is loose and doesn’t help with hydration but that’s not the case with this Hydrating Facial Cleanser. You can feel it moisturizing while cleansing at the same time. It’s a deep cleanser that cuts through the grime of the day while working to clean away any impurities.
Lately I’ve been keeping this in the shower since the plastic tube won’t break if it falls.
- Hyaluronic Acid PLUS: Powerful hydrator, merges with skin providing 2 times more hydration than regular HA to effectively restore skin’s natural hydrating levels.
- Hyaloveil-P: Adhesive Hyaluronic Acid designed to adhere to skin, keeping it moist even after rinsing. Finishes the skin with fresh feeling.
- Safe and gentle cleansers derived from natural amino acids.
Both the Hydrating Cleanser and Protecting Day Lotion SPF18 contain what Hada Labo Tokyo calls Super Hyaluronic Acid (or Hyaluronic Acid Plus). As you can see by my blurry picture, super hyaluronic acid is an excellent hydrator and skin plumper. If it’s going to make my skin retain any youthful qualities, then I want it in buckets!
Hada Labo Tokyo Protecting Day Lotion is the other product I’m using. I love that this has no fragrance and is oil free. My skin totally changes in hot weather. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that my dry skin becomes an oily mess. I don’t always see the oil but I can feel it oozing inside me! I don’t break out often but in the summer I easily can. The fact that this moisturizer is oil free is a biggie for me. It’s non-comedogenic with a lightweight feel to it.
The only negative is that it has an SPF of 18. While it’s broad spectrum which is appreciated, I really wish it were a higher SPF. I’ve been wearing it on days that I wear a foundation or BB/CC Cream that has a higher number in sunscreen protection. I don’t spend a lot of time outside but I know that the sun can get to me anywhere I am.
This is one of the most comfortable moisturizers with sunscreen that I have which is why I reach for it so often. Plus with the Super Hyaluronic Acid addition I know my skin is being protected.
These products from Hada Labo Tokyo are ones I will keep in my rotation, even when I have more expensive ones around. I think it’s a great line in general and it’s one I’d really recommend to someone just starting out with quality skincare. Not only is it affordable but it has ingredients that help with premature aging. Plus it’s free from fragrance, parabens, dyes and mineral oils. Why not start off right and not have to correct your mistakes??
Have you become an afficionado of Hada Labo Tokyo? If not I think the time has come for you to start! — Marcia

I know, I know, sunscreen is just one more thing to do…but it ABSOLUTELY necessary! I need sun protection that my family will actually use; a sunscreen that is so easy to apply and comfortable to wear that no one will fight me on it. Thank goodness Neutrogena sent the BIZ a few sunscreens to try out, because I have found the solutions to my families ‘issues’ with sun protection.
My husband is a very smart man, so I never could figure out why he was so resistant to wearing sunscreen. Apparently he is not alone – in fact, according to Neutrogena, nearly 50% of men have admitted to not applying sunscreen over the past year and 2/3 of men feel women need to wear sunscreen more than men due to “sun sensitivity”! If that isn’t shocking enough, consider this: men often spend more time in the sun unprotected and therefore have a higher incidence of skin cancer as they age.
My hubby spends all day long in the sun and I finally found the product that has convinced him it’s not too ‘inconvenient’ to put on sunscreen. Neutrogena® BEACH DEFENSE® Sunscreen Stick ($10.99) has done the trick for me.
Neutrogena® BEACH DEFENSE® Sunscreen Stick has broad spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection and it couldn’t be easier to use. The stick glides right on without any mess or stickiness. It’s water-resistant up to 80 minutes and the lightweight formula soaks right in. It’s also oil free so it doesn’t make the hubby break out. He keeps this in his truck and applies it every few hours to his face, arms, and legs…and now I don’t nag him anymore. Well, I don’t nag him about sunscreen. It’s a great product but it’s not THAT much of a miracle!
As far as getting my kids to use sunscreen, my go-to product is Neutrogena® ULTRA SHEER® Face & Body Sunscreen Stick ($10.99). I keep this in my car and my children have no excuses – when mom comes at them with the ‘stick’ and they just stand still and let me do my thing.
Neutrogena® ULTRA SHEER® Face & Body Sunscreen Stick has a really cool wide-faced stick that makes it even easier and quicker to apply. As the name suggests, the sunscreen goes on super sheer without that greasy feel of many sunscreens. And talk about sun protection – it has Broad Spectrum SPF 70. Like the Beach Defense, this is water-resistant and absorbs quickly, plus it doesn’t leave a shiny finish.
If you have a stubborn husband and kids, or just need a convenient and portable sunscreen, go with the stick. Neutrogena has exactly what you need. - Lisa

The Beauty Info Zone bloggers are unofficial ambassadors for Meijer stores located in 4 midwest states. We live in Michigan where Meijer was started so we are lucky enough to have quite a few Meijers near us. Meijer has a program called mPerks which is a coupon clipping program to help with your purchases. I’ve been taking advantage of this in many ways and one is that they often have a coupon I can click for 5% off my purchases. In addition they have hundreds of other coupons from food to toys to personal items.
From June 22nd to June 28th Meijer is highlighting summer sun care preparation. During that time there’s Buy One, Get One 50% off on any suncare products from Coppertone, Banana Boat and Hawaiian Tropic. They’ve sent us products to use and some to give away.
Here are the tips from Annie Brown, Meijer’s skin care buyer:
1. Use moisturizer with SPF and incorporate it into your daily routine.
2. Re-apply protection every 30 minutes if you are in the sun or every two hours if you are outside.
3. Try a continuous spray for fast and even application. (Both Banana Boat and Coppertone have sprays for sale during this special)
Meijer carries products like Jergens Glow Daily moisturizer which will help protect your skin and give it a light bronze glow. They also carry self-tanning towels from L’Oreal. But even when you use these products you still need to use SPF to protect.
If you are anything like our households then you go through many bottles and tubes of sunscreen and moisturizer each summer. Save some money with Meijer BOGO 1/2 and their MPerk program.
And now for a giveaway — this is open for US subscribers.
The winner will receive this great swim suit bag. The lined and coated bag is perfect for wet suits as well as products you want to product from getting wet. The winner will also receive Neutrogena Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 55 and Coppertone Clearly Sheer Broad Spectrum SPF 50. Enter by Tuesday, July 1st at 11:59 p.m. EST. If comments are closed you can still use that entry and email the comment to email@example.com.
Good luck and keep yourself safe from the sun’s harmful rays. – Marcia

Who doesn’t love a multi-tasker? Miracle Skin Transformer SPF20 Face Spotlight ($48) is a skin enhancer that does five different things: hydrate, prime, enhance, illuminate & protect. MST kindly sent this to each of us for review. With 5 ways to improve our skin, we were thrilled to try it out.
The mineral pigments and anti-aging ingredients work hard to:
- Illuminate skin, while reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.
- Minimize the appearance of pore size and uneven skin texture.
- Hydrate to provide long lasting nourishment and anti-aging benefits.
- Help protect against future sun damage with UVA/UVB SPF 20.
So how does it work for pale-faced Marcia and faux-tanned Lisa?
As you can see I have a stash of MST products that get used on a regular basis. The newest addition to this is Face Spotlight. MST also makes a similar product called Miracle Skin Transformer FACE. The difference is that the one we’re sharing today is tinted with illuminating particles that make you glow while the original FACE gives a matte look. Let’s learn about these 5 enhancements:
Hydrate - Face Spotlight nourishes skin with a bevy of ingredients like Saw Palmetto and Passion Fruit extracts. It contains Vitamins and CoEnzyme Q10 to deliver hydration to your skin. But the most important ingredient that helps hydrate is Glycerin which also helps smooth your skin.
Prime - You can use Face Spotlight as a primer or a foundation to give your skin a light golden glow. I personally use this by either mixing a little into a foundation or just on my cheeks under foundation.
Enhance - Face Spotlight works to visibly reduce the look of pores, fine lines and skin texture. That’s enhancement!!
Illuminate - There is a light gold tint to Face Spotlight that has some teeny little sparkles in it.
Protect - with SPF 20 Broad Spectrum sunscreen, this protects your face from UVA/UVB rays. If you are counting on this as sunscreen please don’t forget to reapply after 2 hours.
I am more of a full coverage gal, so Face Spotlight is not something I use as a foundation. However, it is terrific under foundation. It evens out my skin tone and it has that pearlized glow that really perks up my look. I love it on my neck, decolletage, and arms too. Freckles are far less noticeable and of course there is the benefit of the Broad Spectrum SPF20 Sunscreen.
The ‘universal shade’ swatches dark, but it sheers out and will work for skin tones except for very fair or dark. I use a self-tanner in the summer months and this compliments it beautifully with the mineralized pigments that reflect light and help hide fine lines and wrinkles.
We found this for sale at Dermstore.com.and Ulta.com (they just call it SPOTLIGHT). Dermstore calls it a BB Cream but that’s not how we’d describe it at all. We think that the name FACE SPOTLIGHT is the perfect description. If you want a little enhancement that doesn’t take you over the top then this is the product to try. Are you a fan of Miracle Skin Transformer like we are??

I can almost guarantee that when someone mentions Perricone MD skincare that you think of Cold Plasma. Dr. Perricone has many great products but the one that he is the most famous for is definitely Cold Plasma. There’s a lot of love and a lot of not-so-love for that product and the main reason is that it can have a smell that people think is fishy. I’ve gone through two jars of Cold Plasma and I haven’t had that problem but I know of people who have. But now there’s the wonders of that product in an entirely new moisturizer called Photo Plasma. When this was sent I was thrilled to NOT smell it.
I’ve found so many benefits with Photo Plasma
1) There’s no fragrance at all. Not a drop.
2) It’s half the price of Cold Plasma ($69 for 2 oz). You can also buy a deluxe sample size of 0.5 oz for $20 at Sephora.
3) Photo Plasma contains broad spectrum SPF 30. This was a problem for me when I used CP since it didn’t contain SPF and Dr. Perricone didn’t make one that I liked.
4) Photo Plasma has a wonderful, lush texture yet it’s oil free.
5) It contains non-chemical UVA and UVB mineral Titanium Dioxide sunscreen.
6) It’s formulated with Vitamin C Ester and Alpha Lipoic Acid to help brighten my skin.
7) There are no parabens in the formula.
8) It protects against skin aggressors like dehydration, pollution, wind, cold, smoke, stress and chemical irritants.
9) I can use one product to take care of my daytime moisturizing and sunscreen.
10) It doesn’t interfere with foundation so no rolling or pilling.
There are a few things I’m not crazy about with Photo Plasma. This light pink moisturizer is a little tacky when you first apply it on so you’ll have to be sure you give yourself time to let it dry down before applying any foundation. Also because it’s in a glass jar you’ll need a separate applicator that you can clean in between uses. I keep a few plastic beauty spatulas near that I can quickly wash before and after use.
I’ve been happy though with the moisturizer and how my skin looks while using it. On my normal to dry winter skin it’s working well.
Now it’s your turn to see if Photo Plasma works for you. We were sent a jar for one of our US subscribers to win. Just use the easy Rafflecopter to enter. The giveaway is open through 3/28/14 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Remember that we check to make sure entries are valid. Good luck. — Marcia
