Mermaid or Unicorn? Hard Candy can make your Halloween a beautiful one

Hard Candy

Hard Candy has created a 2017 collection of products that are perfect for Halloween and beyond. Everything I was sent can be used year round but Halloween is such a special time and these products (plus more) can make your look dazzle. And it’s not too late to pick these up at your local Walmart.

Hard Candy Long Wear Setting Spray, Just Glow Illuminating Liquid, Poppin Pigments, and Wet Ever Unicorn Gloss Topcoat

Let’s start with eyes for your Unicorn, Mermaid, Fairy etc look. In stores there are two palettes ($6 each) to unleash your mythical look: Unicorn Eyeshadow Palette and Mermaid Eyeshadow Palette. These each have 10 shadows that can be mixed, layered or worn alone for your look. If you want to get glitzier though then look for Glitter Gel Palettes ($6). These will really add razzle dazzle to your cheeks or eyes with their shimmering glitters in a non-stick clear base.

Hard Candy Glitteratzi Glitter Gel Palette

For your face there are several items like the Poppin Pigments ($6 each), Just Glow Illuminating Liquid ($6 each) and Sheer Envy Prismatic Highlighter ($6). These limited edition products are great for many fun occasions so it’s the perfect time to pick them up.

Hard Candy Poppin Pigments

Poppin Pigments are a set of 3 small pigment shakers with loose glitter. The vivid glitters are specially formulated with extremely fine-textured tiny pearls of pigments. A little goes a long way. The set I have contains a pale pink, a sparkly white (reminds me of Christmas too), and a beautiful purple that turns iridescent on my skin. The other set appears to contain gold, coral, and purple.

Hard Candy Poppin Pigments

I’m totally crazy about the Just Glow Illuminating Liquid in Stardust. It’s the prettiest pink highlighting shade. Dab it on your cheeks, eyes, or lips for prettiness galore. It’s also available in peach, cream and sky blue to bring a glow to skin. I’d love to see the sky blue as an eyeshadow topper. This mixes in nicely too with a primer to give you a glow from within.

My absolute favorite of these though is the Wet Ever Unicorn Lipgloss Top Coat. OMG this is what I’ve wanted for my lips.

Wet Ever Unicorn Lipgloss Top Coat in Aurora

It’s magic, just like a unicorn. While what you see is white what you get is this stunning iridescent shade:

Wet Ever Unicorn Lipgloss Top Coat in Aurora

Can’t you just picture this on top of a lipstick?? Go with a light lipstick and you’ll find it looks iridescent, use it over a darker shade for a holographic effect. I’m dying over this. It’s available in 3 other shades too but Aurora is perfect for me!

Wet Ever Unicorn Lipgloss Top Coat, Aurora

OK, you think you are set but your really aren’t. You don’t want this beautiful makeup disappearing and that’s why one of the Hard Candy Setting Sprays should be in your collection. There’s a new Illuminating Setting Spray ($6) that is going to enhance your skin’s radiance and luminosity while locking in your makeup. Or try the one I have, Long Wear Makeup Setting Spray.

Hard Candy Long Wear Setting Spray

Long Wear Setting Spray is a weightless spray that does a great job of making my face last. It’s a pump mist that I hold about 8″ away since it comes out wet. A very easy way to use it though is to spray it on one of your beauty sponges and dab it on your face to lock in your makeup look. It’s safe for setting even your eye makeup (which is why I prefer to dab it on). It’s basically fragrance free with the first ingredient being water.

It’s not too late to create a Halloween look but it’s getting late to pick these up before they are gone. I need to get to Walmart again to see about the other shades of Wet Ever and their variety of Setting Sprays. What will you be for Halloween? A unicorn or mermaid maybe?  —  Marcia

Summer Makeup Essentials with Pixi

Pixi Beauty and Pixi Skintreats Summer Essentials

samples

Welcome to August aka the dog days of summer. While I love my dog I have to say that August days can be a drag. We aren’t as excited about summer as before and the heat can get to us. We still want to look great but we don’t necessarily want or need to spend a long time on looking great. PIXI by Petra has chosen 4 products that they think are perfect for summer and helping you get a carefree look that’s fuss free.

Pixi Skintreats Makeup Fixing Mist

Pixi’s Makeup Fixing Mist is going to be the number one product that you’ll need this summer and into the fall. It’s a makeup setting mist that not only helps your cosmetics last longer but it’s a refreshing pick me up at any time that you feel you are drooping.

Pixi Skintreats Makeup Fixing Mist

This rose water and green tea infused formula comforts, protects and balances skin for a fresh face. You can spray it on your face or do what I do – spray it onto a big fluffy brush to set makeup to make it last longer. It’s very hydrating. I’m not someone that likes fragrance in products and this does contain fragrance but with the fluffy brush I notice it a lot less than if I spray it on. It’s terrific for cooling you down no matter the situation.

Pixi Skintreats Nourishing Lip Polish

One of my favorite Pixi Skintreat items is Nourishing Lip Polish. This is an exfoliating scrub that contains apricot & grapefruit oils. I need this all year long. First I’m a lip biter so I need to smooth out my lips because of that and second I get horribly chapped lips in winter and need to exfoliate even before a lip balm.

Pixi Skintreats Nourishing Lip Polish

It’s so easy that a mirror isn’t needed. This is a great protector for your lips that has a nutrient-rich formula smoothes lips with shea butter & a blend of sweet almond, apricot, and evening primrose oils. The exfoliating tip will massage your lips so they’ll look plumper.

Pixi Skintreats Nourishing Lip Polish tip

Now onto Pixi Beauty and more products that are truly wonderful. Pixi Beauty has 5 MultiBalms that are 2-in-1 products for your cheeks and lips. As a dyed-in-the-wool cream blush lover these are right up my alley.

Pixi by Petra MultiBalm for Cheek & Lips

These make summer so easy since you can use it and look twice as nice. It’s a creamy product that’s not tacky, has no fragrance, and is infused with aloe vera, shea butter, and rose hip oil to protect.

Pixi by Petra MultiBalm for Cheek & Lips

There are 5 shades so there’s something for everyone. Pixi believes that Baby Petal is the easiest and most universal but I love them all.

Pixi by Petra MultiBalm for Cheek & Lips

Pixi MultiBalms: Bare Petal, Sheer Sculpt, Soft Strawberry, Watermelon Veil, Wild Rose (brighter light)

At just $12 these are wonderful to have in a variety of colors.

One last product to add to your summer essentials list: Pixi by Petra Quick Fix Powder. This makes apply powder so easy, you don’t need any tools since it’s all in the container.

Pixi by Petra Quick Fix Powder

This translucent powder can be a setting powder or can be used on its own to give your skin an airbrushed look. Most powders are messy but not Quick Fix. The container holds it in and you use the puff to get the powder to release. When done, just close it up and you’ll have no spillage.

Pixi by Petra Quick Fix Powder

4 summer essentials from Pixi are really only the beginning of all that Pixi has to offer. But they are certainly ones you won’t want to be without. Pixi is affordable beauty. Be sure you sign up for their emails since they always have specials to help you get more for your money. And the fun of shopping at Target is only enhanced when you check out Pixi there. Do you have a favorite Pixi product?  —  Marcia

Pur Cosmetics Miracle Mist Hydrate and Set

pur-cosmetics-miracle-mist-hydrate-and-setFive years ago I would have never thought a moisturizing makeup setting spray would have a place on my vanity. My skin was very oily and I used the driest possible foundations to counteract my constantly shiny nose and chin. But my skin is very different now so products like Pur Cosmetics Miracle Mist ($19.00) are saviors, especially with dry winter indoor heat.

Pur Cosmetics Miracle Mist Hydrate and Set

Pur Cosmetics Miracle Mist Hydrate and Set

Miracle Mist is a hydrating spray that also helps set makeup. It has over 70 essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids to pamper your skin. I find that I prefer it for setting mineral makeup over any other type of makeup – it’s pretty impressive for giving a polished appearance, giving mineral foundation and eyeshadow a fresh appearance and extending wear time.

Benefits:

  • Contains over 70 essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids
  • Instantly infuses the skin with vital moisture
  • Soothes and refreshes dry skin and hair with fulvic acid
  • Locks down mineral makeup for all-day perfection

I recently had the flu and one of the not-so-lovely side effects was super dry skin to the point of actually peeling. Miracle Mist was a skin saver for me. Even when I wasn’t wearing any makeup I misted this on every couple of hours which helped my skin heal more quickly.

If you have extremely dry skin this is a great product. It’s also very helpful for those times when powder makeup looks a little too powdery. I wouldn’t say that it’s the best primer and I think there are other makeup extending mists that are better suited for that task.  However, if you need lots of hydration and love mineral makeup, Miracle Mist is effective, refreshing, and convenient to use. A plethora of picks from Pixi Beauty!

A plethora of picks from Pixi Beauty! No question, one of my most favorite drug store cosmetics lines is Pixi Beauty. The packaging is awesome, the color products are great, and the price is right!  Today I have four Pixi picks that go from eyes to cheeks to lips to face.                                                                                              samples

Pixi Beauty Lash Line Ink in Black Silk and Tinted Brilliance Balm in Baby Bare

Pixi Beauty Lash Line Ink in Black Silk and Tinted Brilliance Balm in Baby Bare

Let’s start with the eyes. I am really digging ink liners these days. I recently went on a trip to Spain and I took two eyeliners – a pencil liner and my Pixi Beauty Lash Line Ink in Black Silk ($14).  I love how this deep black liner is so easy to apply – the tip is longer than most ink liners which makes it easier to maneuver. The ink liner stays in place, even through my 13 hours in airports and on planes.  And creating a thin line or a thick line is a snap. Interestingly, this liquid liner is much more ‘wet’ than most I’ve tried, which are more of a stain. Initially, it looks shiny, almost like a black patent leather which is definitely unique. The patent leather effect lasts a few hours, after which it flattens and becomes a stain. Love this liner!

On to lips — Marcia has raved about the Pixi Beauty Tinted Brilliance Balm ($14) forever. Seriously, I think she’s written about ten posts featuring this lip crayon. Baby Bare is my first Tinted Brilliance Balm and I am as big a fan as Marcia is. It’s wonderfully moisturizing, easy to apply, and the peachy-nude shade is a universally flattering color. If for some insane reason it’s not your cuppa tea, no worries because Pixi has 10 more shades available. The slip is just perfect and I love this lippie…I think it’s tied with the Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balms for my favorite Pixi lip products.

Beauty Blush Duo + Kabuki in Peach Honey

Pixi Beauty gets cheeky with the Beauty Blush Duo + Kabuki ($18). How cute is this?? My shade is Peach Honey, and it also comes in Rose Gold. Peach Honey has a peachy nude sheen and a gold beige highlight. It’s more of a highlighter than a blush unless you are super fair. The powder is silky and soft and blends well. It gives a great glow and it’s also a pretty eyeshadow in a pinch.

The kabuki is a tad soft for my taste – I like a kabuki that is firm, but this one is a nice size and works well as a brush to carry in your purse.

Pixi Beauty Makeup Fixing Mist

Pixi Beauty Makeup Fixing Mist

Pixi’s answer to keeping your look from melting in the summer heat is the Makeup Fixing Mist ($15). It’s rose water with green tea that is sprayed on to help keep makeup in place. I have to say, this isn’t for me. The spray is very wet – too wet for my somewhat oily skin. It’s also pretty fragranced.  If you have super dry skin and fragrance isn’t an issue, you might like this – but I think there are better fixing mists out there. The Makeup Fixing Mist seems more like a refreshing moisturizing spray than a setting spray.

Pixi Beauty is available online at Pixibeauty.com as well as at Target stores. With such a plethora of pretty picks from Pixi, be sure you check them out next time you are shopping!  – Lisa

Favorite setting products – powders and sprays

Do you have products that help you finish your makeup each day? That’s what Top Ten Tuesday is about this week. There are some great products available for this job and I’ve picked the favorites that I’ve used. When I’m done I hope you’ll share some of yours with me.

I have to start with IT COSMETICS since I talk about the brand all the time. The product that I’ve used up twice is IT COSMETICS BYE BYE PORES aka Bye Bye Pores Silk HD Anti-Aging Micro-Powder. Once I discovered this powder I stopped using the drawer full I had from Laura Mercier, Kevyn Aucoin, and more. I still use those occasionally but they aren’t in my top ten! Silky soft and it does blur my pores just like it says it will.

Once they came out with Bye Bye Pores Airbrush Silk Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder I had to buy that too.  This pressed powder is great for travel and on the go.

Purely Cosmetics Diamond Perfect Finish Powder is fabulous. I love this powder and am currently on my second one. Powder takes forever and a day for me to finish so the fact that I’ve gone through one and a half jars of this speaks for itself. Diamond Finish sets my makeup, blurs my pores, and gives me a beautiful finish that isn’t matte.

One more loose powder in this group: Pixi Beauty Quik Fix Powder in Translucid wins for the best packaging as well as being a great powder. This is very lightweight and invisible on my skin. It contains great ingredients like aloe vera and cucumber extract to smooth along with grape extract which acts as an antioxidant.

Mally Evercolor Poreless Face Defender is really a cheat since it’s not a powder or a spray but it’s a staple in my cosmetic wardrobe. It has a very unusual texture and gives a matte finish. It’s wonderful for blurring fine lines and pores. There’s no dryness like powder can give.

Now on to the sprays. Skindinavia has two sprays that I have to recommend: Makeup Primer Spray and the Makeup Finishing Spray are both wonderful. Other brands like Urban Decay sell these but they are made by Skindinavia. The Primer Spray is just like it sounds. Spray this one after your skincare is on and it helps deliver a smoother finish for your foundation. The Finishing Spray is to be applied after all your makeup is on and it helps keep your makeup in place for the day. It’s especially great for being outdoors. They even make this in Oil Control and a Bridal version.

A much less expensive version is  Hard Candy Fast & Fabulous Makeup Setting Spray at Walmart. This is only $6.30 compared to the $30ish prices of Skindinavia. It’s not bride proof but it’s a good way to see if a spray is for you.

When I was in the midst of hot flashes I relied on Youngblood Minerals in the Mist. I was at IMATS and I looked like someone had dropped a bucket of water on me. I was shopping at Youngblood and they recommended it in Refresh for me and it saved the trip. I carried it around with me to refresh my skin. I’ve since used it up but if I ever go through that misery again, I’d repurchase.

Hard Candy Fast & Fabulous to the rescue in this summer heat

Two of the products that have been getting daily use from me the last few weeks are from Hard Candy Cosmetics sold at Walmart. These were sent just in time to beat the heat.

Hard Candy Makeup Setting Spray and Translucent Finishing Powder

Hard Candy Makeup Setting Spray and Translucent Finishing Powder

Both are part of Hard Candy’s new Fast & Fabulous makeup line and came at the perfect time. These can be used separately or together and both will help you through the heat and humidity.

Hard Candy Fast & Fabulous Makeup Setting Spray

Hard Candy Fast & Fabulous Makeup Setting Spray

If you have meltdowns in any weather than you’ll want the Hard Candy Makeup Setting Spray ($6.00) right away. This spray is very similar to the much more expensive ones from Skindinavia and Urban Decay but the price is much more palatable especially if you aren’t sure if this is what you need. This spray is weightless and it helps set your makeup for the day. You can use it over anything you are wearing including powders. Out of habit I shake it, then hold it about 10 inches away, close my eyes and start spraying. You don’t need that much though. Your face will feel and look damp for a bit so I just blot with my towel. I’m always amazed that it doesn’t budge my makeup – even my powder eyeshadows. No dripping down eyeliner or mascara either.

This is a very handy item to help you maintain a look that doesn’t melt, crack, fade or even settle into your fine lines.

The other product in my life is Hard Candy Translucent Finishing Powder ($6.00) which is also part of the Fast & Fabulous collection.

Hard Candy Translucent Finishing Powder

Hard Candy Translucent Finishing Powder

This powder is totally translucent so no matter what skintone you have and no matter if your foundation shade changes in different seasons, this will work year round. It doesn’t leave any color behind but you know it’s working because of the way it sets your foundation. It’s a matte finish that helps absorb oil and reduce shine. I’m not particularly oily but I’ve noticed a difference with this. I’ve traded in my loose powders for this lately. I especially like that it’s a blurring product since I need to be blurred!

Hard Candy Translucent Finishing Powder

Hard Candy Translucent Finishing Powder

I use a kabuki brush with mine but I have tried it with a velour puff and with my Beauty Blender sponge too and get similar results. I find it impossible to overdo so I’m not looking like Nicole Kidman with white powder on my face. This helps extend the length of the face makeup I use.

Beside these two marvels they have a Waterproof Mascara Top Coat ($6.00). It will be interesting to see what else Hard Candy adds to this line.

It’s great that Hard Candy wants us to beat the heat with these Fast & Fabulous products. They may not be the first or the last to manufacture products that keep us from melting away but they surely are the most affordable. Have you seen these at Walmart yet? If so will you add them to your cart? — Marcia
