Give your skin a daily dose with Painted Earth Vitamin C Serum

Have you hopped onto the Vitamin C skin care train yet?  There are so many reasons why a good Vitamin C product should be part of your routine.  When packaged properly, topically applied Vitamin C increases collagen production, reduces skin discolorations, strengthens and repairs skin, reduces inflammation, and protects the skin from sun exposure.   I love what Vitamin C does for my skin so I was happy to test the Vitamin C Serum ($95) from Painted Earth.  I was even more intrigued when I saw the Vitamin C in this serum is in a concentrated base of pure vegan hyaluronic acid.

Painted Earth Vitamin C Serum

Painted Earth Vitamin C Serum

Actually, the entire ingredient list is quite impressive.  The vegan hyaluronic acid boosts skins moisture content and reduces inflammation.  Ferulic Acid is a potent antioxidant that also protects the skin from sun damage, and Vitamin E is an excellent antioxidant.  The combination of Vitamin C, Ferulic Acid, and Vitamin E is pretty amazing.  According to Painted Earth, the Vitamin C Serum provides “50 times the free radical neutralizing power of prior generations and up to eight- fold antioxidant protection, ninety-six percent reduction of sunburn cells, and prevention of the formation of free radicals in sun exposed skin.”  This is a very elegant formula that definitely produces results.

Just take a look at all the things this serum can do for you:

*Improves skin radiance and clarity.
*Stimulates collagen production.
*Jump starts cellular defenses.
*Helps extend cellular vitality.
*Promotes new cell growth.
*For Photo-aged or Photo-damaged skin.
*Repairs Hyper-pigmentation.
*Reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
*Protects against UV-induced erythema, free radical formation, and cellular damage.
***With 11% Hyaluronic Acid

I can’t come up with a single skin care woe the Vitamin C Serum doesn’t address!

Painted Earth Vitamin C Serum

Painted Earth Vitamin C Serum

The Vitamin C Serum is quite thin for a serum – it comes out in drops that are very liquid, and three or four drops cover the face, neck, and chest.  The serum is in an amber glass jar that protects it from excess light with a dropper applicator. The packaging is good…it would be excellent if it were an airless pump to also protect the active ingredients from exposure to air, which can reduce the effectiveness of the ingredients.

Other than a slight improvement in packaging, I have nothing but raves for Painted Earth Vitamin C Serum.  If you are looking to add some Vitamin C to your skin care routine, this is a great option.  The triple threat of Vitamin C, Ferulic Acid, and Vitamin E in a hyaluronic acid base is about as advanced as skin care gets.  Go ahead, visit the Painted Earth website and hop on the Vitamin C train.  - Lisa

Getting intense with Kate Somerville Quench Hydrating Face Serum

You know how the motto for real estate is ‘location, location, location’?  I think the motto for awesome skin is ‘hydration, hydration, hydration’!  The fabulous Kate Somerville sent us her best-selling Quench Hydrating Face Serum (1 fl.oz $75), and intense hydration quickly ensued.

Kate Somerville Quench Hydrating Serum

Every time I use this serum (which is twice a day, morning and night) I sing that Cher song in my head…If I could turn back time...  I really do feel like I am turning back the clock and finding younger looking skin.  Quench Hydrating Serum is retinol based, and it does amazing things:

  • HSC Complex is designed to deliver intense hydration, while counteracting environmental stressors.
  • An intense form of Vitamin A helps to promote healthier-looking skin and return skin to its youthful appearance by boosting the skin renewal process.
  • Lipids—the key to younger-looking skin—are included to help improve elasticity and firmness.

The silicone-based serum sinks in quickly and leaves my skin so soft and moisturized, it’s positively luxurious.  It is fantastic on the neck and decolletage for a silky, satiny appearance that looks terrific.  The packaging couldn’t be better.  An airless pump keeps all those antioxidants and cell-communicating ingredients stable and effective, plus it has a see-through strip on the side so you can see how much product is left.  To top off the awesomeness, the serum is fragrance-free.

GrandCentralBeauty serves up some S.M.A.R.T. skin care

Most ‘grand centrals’ around the world are examples of classic architecture and modern efficiency. The New York skin care line GrandCentralBeauty is based on those concepts. In fact, their motto is “Classic Treatment, Modern Results.” They have three products that are meant to be layered for skin perfection. GrandCentralBeauty sent us their Express Facial Kit ($32, a $40 value) which is a great way to try out the line.

This cute wristband comes with the Express Kit

This cute wristband comes with the Express Facial Kit

All of GrandCentralBeauty’s products are S.M.A.R.T.  So what does S.M.A.R.T. stand for? Smooths, Moisturizes, Anti-aging, Redness-reduction, Tones. All products are meant to compliment whatever routine you are currently using, which is definitely smart in my opinion.

The Express Facial Kit includes a deluxe S.M.A.R.T. Skin Perfecting MASK, a deluxe S.M.A.R.T. Skin Perfecting POLISHER, and a deluxe S.M.A.R.T. Skin Perfecting SERUM+PRIMER, all packaged in a cute pink travel tote.

Grand Central Beauty

GrandCentralBeauty Active Mask Powder (held together with the wrist band!)

the mask

the mask and booster

The S.M.A.R.T. SKIN PERFECTING® MASK is a powder mask that is mixed with the accompanying liquid Intensive Booster.  I love powder masks because they keep a whole lot longer than masks that are already liquid. One jar of powder makes a single very thick mask that ultimately peels off and looks like a Halloween mask.

the mask

the powder mask – mix it up right in this container

The mask does all the S.M.A.R.T. things, plus it brightens skin and reduces oiliness. It really is a whole lot of fun to use, too. The powder is pre-measured, and the mask is left on for fifteen minutes. It cleans out pores like crazy – you just might faint when you see all the gunk in the mask that used to be on and in your face.

the polisher and serum

the Perfecting Polisher and Perfecting Serum

The S.M.A.R.T. Skin Perfecting SERUM+PRIMER has a slew of cool ingredients, including squalane from brazilian sugar cane, apple, watermelon, lentil, rice and soybean protein. I think it works better as a serum than a primer – I need a little more spackle than this provides – but if you prefer a lighter primer this is a great option.

The S.M.A.R.T. Skin Perfecting POLISHER is a seriously cool product. It’s a 30-Second Multi-Tasking Toning Peel. Looks like a serum, doesn’t it? But it is a peel with ingredients like multi-fruit acids including apple, lemon, sugarcane and orange, botanical extracts like peony, and caviar-like beads that exfoliate and polish.

This is applied to a clean, dry face, then massaged until these little spongy beads show up (about 30 seconds or so). Those beads are actually dirt and dead skin cells…ewwww…but fascinating! Just buff them off into the sink, and no need to even rinse. Do this before the mask and follow with the serum and it’s a complete pampering facial.

Of the three products, the Skin Polisher and Perfecting Mask are the standouts. If you are interested in GrandCentralBeauty, the Express Facial is a great way to try everything and see what works best for your skin.  In fact, I would say that it is a S.M.A.R.T. buy!  - Lisa

Review and GIVEAWAY! Dermarie Skin Care

We know there are tons of gimmicks out there for skin care, so it’s always exciting to try a line that is simply based on good science. Today we have three skin care products from Dermarie to tell you about; you’ll not only get the inside scoop you will also have a chance to win one of them for yourself!

dermarie

Dermarie is a new line for us and we were intrigued by their philosophy. All of Dermarie’s products are developed from science. This is a line that is about effective ingredients and results, not marketing magic. They find some excellent ingredients from nature, as well as some that chemists have invented. This is a technology-based line, folks – you won’t find any fads here! Everything is made and manufactured in the US and Dermarie is a cruelty-free line.

Today we have three products that Dermarie sent us to review, as well as a giveaway for each of the items. And if our review spurs your interest in the line, we have a special code just for Beauty Info Zone readers for a whopping 40% off.  Just add in the code BEAUTYINFOZONE40 at checkout.

Lisa’s Side:  I am the lucky one who got to test two of Dermarie’s bestselling skin care products.  I tested both an eye serum and a facial serum.

Under Eye Illuminator Anti-aging Serum ($45)

Dermarie Under Eye Illuminator Anti-aging Serum

Dermarie Under Eye Illuminator Anti-aging Serum

Dermarie Under Eye Serum dropper bottle

Dermarie Under Eye Serum dropper bottle

I have eye issues, no doubt about it. I’ve got discoloration under my eyes, dark circles, and puffiness. So the Under Eye Illuminator Anti-aging Serum sounded right up my alley. This serum attacks all three issues and creates a healthier, younger looking eye area. It does this through peptides, one of the best ingredients available in skin care.

I used this for a month and I definitely noticed a difference. This is applied morning and night, and I actually also used a regular eye cream over it because the serum isn’t really for hydration. Check out what it does:

  • Visibly improves the appearance of under eye dark circles, puffiness, and discoloration
  • Active complex of rapid absorbing peptides improve skin tone and texture
  • Treats all types of under eye dark circles

    • Blue Circles from capillary pressure
    • Brown Circles caused by hyperpigmentation
    • Yellow Circles from hereditary factors
  • Softens and smooths skin

And here is a statistic that made me hopeful – after two weeks, 83% of users reported a reduction of dark circles and 85% reported a reduction of eye puffiness. I noticed a big difference in both puffiness and under eye circles. If you have any of these issues, this just could be the answer for you.  (Ingredients include Seaweed Extract, Purified Water, Hyaluronic Acid, Oxido Reductases, Soy Peptide, Hydrolyzed Rice Bran Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.)

Lumitox Acetyl Hexapeptide Anti-aging Facial Serum ($68)

Dermarie Lumitox Acetyl Hexapeptide Anti-aging Facial Serum

Dermarie Lumitox Acetyl Hexapeptide Anti-aging Facial Serum

Dermarie’s Lumitox Acetyl Hexapeptide Anti-aging Facial Serum has pretty sweet packaging.  It looks like a great big needle, I guess because the serum is like a topical Botox. Dermarie says it ”interrupts the nerve signals responsible for facial expression lines and forehead wrinkles.” The peptides in this serum relax the muscle contractions that cause wrinkles, and by calming those muscles the appearance of lines is reduced.

Nope, it's not a needle...it just looks like one!

Nope, it’s not a needle…it just looks like one!

Lumitox Acetyl Hexapeptide Anti-aging Facial Serum

Lumitox Acetyl Hexapeptide Anti-aging Facial Serum

The two peptides are Hexapeptide-30 and Acetyl Hexapeptide-8. There is a lot of science behind this and Dermarie does a great job of explaining what these peptides do HERE.  The benefits of this facial serum are pretty amazing:

  • Formulated with two revolutionary deep penetrating peptides Hexapeptide-30 and Acetyl Hexapeptide-8
  • Reduces the severity of facial expression lines, wrinkle depth and fine lines
  • Lifts and tightens facial skin for improved elasticity and firmness
  • Relaxes and calms facial features for a more youthful appearance
  • Nourishing and skin revitalizing seaweed extract with hyaluronic acid for added moisturizing and skin protecting benefits

I used this morning and night for almost a month, and found it be a wonderful, lightweight serum. Did it actually reverse my expression lines? No, I think I will need to keep using it for a month or two longer to really know the long-term effects of this serum. But it did hydrate and plump up my skin, and my wrinkles certainly did not get any deeper. I think this is an exciting serum with very interesting science behind it and I am excited to find out what my results will be in another month or two. (Ingredients include Chondrus Crispus (Seaweed) Extract, Purified Water (Aqua), Hyaluronic Acid, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Acetyl Hexapeptide-30, Arginine, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.)

Marcia’s Side:  Eye Illuminator + Vitamin K Anti-aging Eye Cream ($58)

Dermarie Eye Illuminator + Vitamin K Anti-aging Eye Cream

Dermarie Eye Illuminator + Vitamin K Anti-aging Eye Cream

I’ve been using Dermarie Eye Illuminator + Vitamin K Anti-aging Eye Cream for almost a month now and every time I put it on I get mad at it. Truthfully, I yell at it in my head. I don’t understand why an eye cream has to be fragranced. But that hasn’t stopped me from using it night after night. The benefits outweigh the fragrance. Since everything in the eye cream is natural I know that the fragrance most likely comes from the organic botanicals used.

great pump packaging

Eye cream, just a dab needed

Eye cream, just a dab needed

The results of using Eye Illuminator + Vitamin K Anti-aging Eye Cream compensate for my nose’s preferences (and the aroma only lasts about 20 minutes). The fact that this is helping with my horrible dark circles and the puffiness under my eyes makes me keep using it. Ingredients like Vitamin K, arnica, and DCX help with circulation and strengthen the delicate layers of skin under my eyes. Those ingredients also mobilize the blood flow around my eyes to alleviate the appearance of dark circles, puffiness, and swelling. I take a million pictures (and delete 99% of them) and it’s not my undereye area where I use the Dermarie that shows up darkly.

Dermarie Eye Illuminator + Vitamin K Anti-aging Eye Cream

Dermarie Eye Illuminator + Vitamin K Anti-aging Eye Cream

Loving hyaluronic acid as an ingredient, like I do, makes this a very hydrating eye cream for me. The moisturizing qualities of hyaluronic acid along with the blend of these other ingredients make for an eye cream that does what it says – illuminates, helps with the signs of anti-aging, and decreases dark circles. I couldn’t ask for more.

Dermarie is sponsoring a giveaway for all three products reviewed today, so take a chance and enter!  Don’t forget the amazing coupon code for Beauty Info Zone readers – get 40% off with the code BEAUTYINFOZONE40.

The Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Serum ($22.99) is a wonderfully silky, milky serum that makes skin feel ultra smooth. Effective ingredients include both Vitamin E, the rock star of antioxidants, as well as retinol for anti-aging. It does have a fragrance, but if that isn’t an issue for you this is a truly terrific serum that will take your skin back several years.

Apothoderm Nourishing Serum Review

Apothederm Nourishing Serum

Apothederm Nourishing Serum

I’ve become somewhat of a serum fanatic. I’m finding that ever since I became serious and incorporated serums into my daily skincare regimen that my skin is much more hydrated and firmer looking. There were times in the past that I’d be at a cosmetic counter and the MA would tell me how dehydrated my skin was. I really felt it was a lot of mumbo jumbo to get me to buy products but now I realize I was lacking the hydration that makes me look younger.

My current serum is a new product from Apothederm and it’s absolutely perfect for warm weather. This is the first product that I’ve used from Apothederm and I’m looking forward to trying others after this experience.

Apothederm Nourishing Serum

Apothederm Nourishing Serum

Apothederm Nourishing Serum is a very lightweight product meant to restore vibrancy in your skin. I use it right after cleansing every morning on my face and neck. I let it soak in while I start my eyes and before I put on moisturizer and/or spf.

Apothederm Nourishing Serum

Apothederm Nourishing Serum

This light blue serum is quite thin and the good news is that it’s not sticky. It contains so many ingredients that are meant to help vanish my fine lines and wrinkles as well as firm my skin. I’m sure it’s doing its job since I definitely can see a difference.

Apothederm Nourishing Serum contains Copper Peptides to slow the effects of aging as well as promote the growth of elastin and collagen. It also is loaded with anti-oxidants to help calm skin inflammation and repair any sun damage. My sun damage is there but it’s from decades ago when we didn’t know what it was doing to us. I’m happy that this serum helps to repair the damage I unknowingly did to my skin. Another point in its favor is that there is no fragrance!

Apothederm’s strength is in the use of Peptides in particular their patented SmartPeptides™ which you can read about at their site. This serum combines a patented copper SmartPeptide® with additional antioxidants – ubiquinone, green tea leaf extract and grape seed extract – and vitamins to help restore vibrancy to the skin. For me it’s great to know that my addiction to this serum is backed up by the scientists of Apothederm. The only thing that isn’t user friendly is the price ($75 for 1 oz/30 ml) but honestly you use such a small amount that this will last about 6 months.

Have you found a serum that you are crazy about? If not then make your next one Apothederm Noursing Serum. — Marcia

Derma MD and Hautelook equals bargains galore – check out these products

Derma MD trio of goodness

Derma MD trio of goodness

I’ve just begun using some Derma MD products that were sent for review so this is just an introduction to the company. I normally don’t do a pre-review but I learned that Derma MD is going to be sold on Hautelook on May 4, 2014 so I didn’t want that to go by without you learning a little about the line. I’ve found that when I’ve bought skincare on Hautelook in the past that I’ve saved a bundle and gotten wonderful high end products like Derma MD.

When I read about the philosophy of Derma MD I had no qualms about reviewing their line. They know that we all have different skin types and different needs so no product can be the holy grail for each of us. Derma MD has several key ingredients in their products to help meet needs. What they say is that a line needs to have the following: ingredients to deep pore cleanse, moisturizing and hydrating ingredients to maintain and increase moisture, antioxidants to protect from free radical damage, peptides to build new collagen, vitamins and mineral to feed and nourish, exfoliating and rejuvenating ingredients to increase cellular turnover and improve texture and skin tone, as well as an array of specialty ingredients to target specific needs or issues. Derma MD contains them all.

When we are addressing a specific skin condition, then we need to produce products with therapeutic type of ingredients to target the problem…i.e. Acne, we need to have more ingredients that will target acne P bacteria…for Rosacea, we need to have antioxidants and ingredients that will reduce inflammation, and for pigmentation problems, we incorporate potent lightening and melanin inhibitor agents. What are important are how the ingredients are delivered and the percentages used to get satisfied results. You can rest assured when purchasing Derma MD products, what is in the package is the newest proven ingredients available for that finished product with the highest concentration level of percentages allowed to provide our customers RESULTS.”

I’ve been using 3 products for the last week and will be doing a more comprehensive review once I’ve given these at least a month’s worth of use. So far I’m impressed enough to introduce you to these since they’ll be part of the Hautelook sale.

Enzyme Cleanser with Pineapple and Papaya

Enzyme Cleanser with Pineapple and Papaya

Enzyme Cleanser with Pineapple and Papaya ($48) is a very effective wash. There’s a slight tingle when I use it and the pleasant fragrance of the pineapple at work. The key ingredients are Pineapple & Papaya Enzyme, Aloe Vera Extract, Wheat Protein Amino Acid, Dex-Panthenol, Avocado Oil. What I like about the wash is that it not only helps hydrate but it helps with deep pore cleansing.

PINK SILK Face Firming Rejuvenator

PINK SILK Face Firming Rejuvenator

PINK SILK Face Firming Rejuvenator is their number 1 best seller. This truly is pink and feels very silky. I’m really excited about this product and can’t wait to see what comes about. It promises to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles; even out skin tone; hydrate; improve elasticity and fight free radicals. I’ll take it! I can use help in all those areas. This sells for $138.95 so the sale at Hautelook will be welcome.

S-Cargot Lifting Serum

S-Cargot Lifting Serum

S-Cargot Lifting Serum ($149.95) has my favorite name of all the products. Now don’t be squeamish about the snail technology. I promise you that no snails will pop out of the bottle. Snail secretion is one of the newest ingredients in cosmetics. You’ll find it in a lot of products but not everyone talks about it because they are afraid it will frighten you away. There’s no need for that since *Snail Technology is a NATURAL source of skin-softening , allantoin, collagen and elastin works as active ingredient for skin repair, dead skin removal and anti-bacterial treatment. It also uses apple stem cell extract and I know that doesn’t frighten you.

I’m using Pink Silk Face Firming Rejuvenator in the morning and S-Cargot Lifting Serum at night and soon I’ll be younger looking than all of you. Or at least I hope so! I’ll report back!

Glamur Lip Plumper

Glamur Lip Plumper

Last in my kit is the Glamur Lip Plumper ($24.95) to help reduce lip lines. It can be used alone or over a lip product. I found it was tingly when used alone but more comfortable over a lipstick. It added a pretty glossy look with a touch of gold sparkle but didn’t interfere with the lipstick shade.  The key ingredients are encapsulated hyaluronic acid micro-spheres, retinyl palmitate, vitamin E, niacin and titanium dioxide.

Check out the Derma MD line on their website and then again on Hautelook starting May 4th (and May 5th) for some steals. — Marcia
