Smell good and look good with CITRUS CLEAR facial products – and enter the giveaway

Fresh lemon

I’ve learned a lot by blogging and one of the things I’ve learned is not to be so wary of products that are fragranced. I have my preferences of course but I think we all do. When Citrus Clear offered to send some products our way and included a giveaway I was game for it. Citrus smells are just fine with me. Give me lemon, grapefruit, lime, orange, or tangerine and I’m a happy tester.

Citrus Clear Sensitive Wash in Natural Tahitian Lime

Citrus Clear Sensitive Wash in Natural Tahitian Lime

Now onto the products and what they are like. SENSITIVE FACE WASH ($28.99)  in Natural Tahitian Lime: This has been formulated for sensitive skin and is hypoallergenic. It contains amino acids and vitamin C. It has the most luscious and true lime scent to it which makes sense because it’s formulated with only natural and chemical free ingredients. The 8 oz. pump will last for a long time with its gentle lather. This removes excess oil so it’s especially good for those with oily to normal skin.

Citrus Clear Sensitive Moisturizer in Pink Grapefruit

Citrus Clear Sensitive Moisturizer in Pink Grapefruit

The Sensitive Moisturizer in Pink Grapefruit makes me want to just open it and smell. It has a slight tartness to its yummy grapefruit fragrance. It isn’t overwhelming at all, I notice the fragrance when I first apply it but it doesn’t linger. The Sensitive Moisturizer (on sale now from $24.99 to $14.99) is very gentle and feels quite comfortable on my skin. It doesn’t have sunscreen but it’s a great base for your spf product. It doesn’t ball up under makeup which is important especially in the summer.  If I had a teen daughter I’d be letting her borrow it for sure.

Citrus Clear Tangerine Tingle

Citrus Clear Tangerine Tingle

Citrus Clear Tangerine Tingle

Citrus Clear Tangerine Tingle

TANGERINE TINGLE FACE SCRUB ($18.99) is probably my favorite of the products. You open it to a jiggly mixture that has this tantalizing tangerine fragrance. The reason it’s called a ‘tingle’ is that it really does tingle when you apply it. It’s the product working to clean out your pores and exfoliate your skin. Using it as a cleanser means you just apply it over damp skin and massage it on to exfoliate then rinse off. Using it as a mask you leave it on for about 2-4 minutes before rinsing. So depending on the amount of time you have, you can decide how to use it.

Tangerine Tingle

Tangerine Tingle

Tangerine Tingle contains glycolic acid to exfoliate and help keep pores clean; it also contains lemon oil which helps brighten your complexion. The website says that your face can get slightly red for a few minutes after, while I didn’t find that I think you should start with it as a wash and make sure you don’t have a reaction before working up to a mask.

Citrus Clear Pore & Blackhead Extracting Mask

Citrus Clear Pore & Blackhead Extracting Mask

The PORE & BLACKHEAD EXTRACTING MASK ($24.99) has the opposite texture of the Tangerine Tingle. This is very firm and truly mask like. This mask contains citrus but the natural clay and herbs seem to overtake and the mask smells sweet but not citrusy to me. You can apply it to either dry or damp skin and then leave it on for 4-8 minutes. It dries hard but doesn’t crack on my face. What I like about this is the ability to deep clean my pores. I don’t have breakouts but I think this would be great if you did since it’s such a deep cleansing tool. I like to wash it off with a washcloth and then follow up with the Sensitive Wash.

Citrus Clear Acne Spot Treatment

Citrus Clear Acne Spot Treatment

CITRUS CLEAR GRAPEFRUIT ACNE SPOT TREATMENT ($12.99) is what you can win. This treatment can be used up to 5 times a day if you have a breakout. It contains salicylic acid which helps treat your existing spot but it can also be used to control oily skin and prevent future breakouts. According to Citrus Clear it helps prevent the formation of blackheads. The ingredients are wonderful containing naturally derived grapefruit extract and vitamin C. The size of the tube makes it convenient to carry with you if you need it during the day.

Even after all this information there is more! Citrus Clear is paraben free, doesn’t contain pthalates, petrochemicals, sulfates, mineral oils, synthetic fragrance or dyes. They are a cruelty free company and contain no animal by-products. I think you can tell that this line was a lot going for it. — Marcia

Belli Anti-Blemish Basics

If you’ve heard of the brand Belli then you know that it’s a brand that began its life as a safe brand for pregnant women. Considering I’m in menopause it sure doesn’t seem like it would be an appropriate brand for me but guess what – it’s very fitting for me and for you. When Belli offered to send a few products the timing was perfect because I was going through my summer breakout time. I said yes and learned a lot about these products. I have two products from Belli, Anti-Blemish Facial Wash and Fresh Start Pre-Treatment Scrub.

Belli Anti-Blemish Facial Wash and Fresh Start Pre/Treatment Scrub

Belli Anti-Blemish Facial Wash and Fresh Start Pre-Treatment Scrub

Belli wants women to start with them when they are planning pregnancy, are pregnant and to keep with them beyond pregnancy. No matter what age women are, our hormones can go wacky. Even my elderly mother has an occasional breakout.

.
Their motto tells it all: Picky for a Purpose. We want to take care of ourselves all the time but during your pregnancy or if you are nursing you need to watch what you use so much more.belli slogan
The Anti-Blemish Facial Wash ($22/6.5 oz) is what I really needed the most for the breakouts I was having. My skin doesn’t love hot humid weather. It seemed like every few days there was another little bump that wanted to skew the results of other skincare I was using. I have used this in the evenings when I had a flare up and it helped calm any redness I was having. It’s a clear wash without fragrance. My skin is drier now than it used to be so I need to be careful that a cleanser isn’t going to strip it. The Belli is doing a nice job of keeping my skin clean but not dry. I follow with a Reviva Lab Serum and later moisturizer and my breakouts are basically gone. (I need to keep my hands off the one that I’ve irritated though!!)
Here’s some information from Belli:
• Features lactic acid to cleanse and gently exfoliate acne prone skin
• FREE OF salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and benzoyl peroxide– common acne fighting ingredients that should be avoided during pregnancy
• Contains lemon peel oil, a natural anti-bacterial and skin brightener
• With green tea extract and cucumber, both are rich in antioxidants
Belli Anti-Blemish Facial Wash

Belli Anti-Blemish Facial Wash

The Anti-Blemish Facial Wash won’t be my personal daily cleanser but it will live on my bathroom counter so that when the zits decide to come out and party, I’ll be ready for them.
.
The other product I’ve used from Belli is actually a Prep product so I should have mentioned it first. Oops. Fresh Start Pre-Treatment Scrub ($24, 6.5 oz) is a scrub like a dermabrasion scrub that can be used on your face and body. It surprises me how many women don’t know about a scrub like this. I was telling a friend about a scrub I had reviewed and she didn’t know one thing about them. A scrub like this keeps your pores cleansed, gets rid of dead skin and helps prepare your skin for other treatments. Here’s what Belli has to tell us about their Fresh Start Pre-Treatment Scrub:
• Features green tea extract and ginseng, both are rich in antioxidants
• Helps prepare skin for the application of other Belli products
• Includes the refreshing aromatherapy of peppermint oil

Belli Fresh Start Pre-Treatment Scrub

This is a great scrub to use 2 to 3 times a week. I have quite a few scrubs so I interchange but I did use this one exclusively for a few weeks while testing Belli for review. I used it twice a week and found it gentle on my skin. It’s nice to take it in the shower, get the refreshment of the peppermint oil and at the same time work on my face and body. The Anti-Blemish Facial Wash is a great follow up.

You can find these products at many retailers and etailers. It’s carried at the BuyBuy Baby that’s right near my house so I can even use one of the $5 coupons they send me all the time. It’s also available at drugstore.com, Ulta.com, and many maternity sites.

As you can see, this is an ageless company. I’m happy to have what helps me rather than care that it’s a brand created for a woman in her child bearing years. These are products I’ll continue to use and recommend to my loved ones. — Marcia

derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub – a pore relief review

derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub

derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub

There are a lot of things to like about derma e products since they are all paraben free, gluten free, dye free, petrolatum free, phthalate free, GMO free, 100% vegan, eco-friendly and cruelty free. The only thing that could improve this list is if they were totally free. Actually they are close to free since derma e keeps their products reasonably priced and affordable.

We were sent the Microdermabrasion Scrub with Dead Sea Salt to test and it’s a winner. It’s a huge jar at 2 oz and $32 and it’s going to last forever because I just need the tiniest amount for my entire face. Don’t tell anyone but you can find this for a lot less; for example I just saw it on amazon.com for half price. Shhh!

derma e microdermabrasion scrub

derma e microdermabrasion scrub

Derma e’s Microdermabrasion Scrub uses a blend of Dead Sea Salt and Volcanic Sand in an exclusive crystalized blend. It has a light, tart citrus fragrance because it’s enriched with natural astringents like lime and lemon peel. I love the smell of it and I’m glad it’s noticeable for a few minutes after I’m done. Ingredients like antioxidant Grapeseed and Vitamin E make sure this treatment not only helps to retexturize your skin but it leaves it softer and smoother looking.

derma e microdermabrasion scrub ingredients

derma e microdermabrasion scrub ingredients

Here’s how I use this scrub – I wash my face but I don’t dry it. You can use it on wet or dry skin but I prefer wet since it’s not abrasive that way. I usually scrub in a circular motion and try to remember to go upwards since that’s better for sagging skin. Without timing it, I figure I’m using this about 2 minutes. Then I wash it off with warm water and a clean washcloth. I prefer using a muslin cloth since they are so gentle on my skin. That’s it. I’m done and just follow with my serums, moisturizers etc.  A few minutes twice a week is good for keeping my pores clean. I do concentrate on my nose since those are the pores that drive me totally bonkers.

derma e microdermabrasion scrub

derma e microdermabrasion scrub

While I’ve only used this on my face, I know I could use it anywhere on my body that I want this retexturing to occur. I often find that my hands look dry so I’m going to start using it on my hands while I’m doing my face now too.

There is no absorption into the skin with derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub. The crystal blend is a large molecular structure, according to the company, and is not bio-available to the body. Plus the ingredients are natural so they aren’t going to clog up our drains and water system.

derma e microdermabrasion scrub

You won’t believe how smooth your skin feels after using this scrub. I have several other derma e products that I enjoy like the Hydrating Mask and Evenly Radiant Dark Circle Eye Cream so it’s often derma e week at my house. How about yours? Have you been introduced to this line yet? — Marcia

The latest from Kleraderm!

Last weekend I was what we call in Michigan a ‘hunting widow’ – the hubby went to Ohio, and he even took the kids with him.  That meant I was finally home alone.  So of course I spent my weekend searching for someone to hang out with since I was so lonely…I need to be careful what I wish for!

The best part of my weekend was taking my mom to Nordstrom for a facial from Joanne Recchia, the owner of Kleraderm.

My mom with Joanne

My mom with Joanne

Kleraderm, the Italian skin care line, is sold at Nordstrom’s in the Somerset Mall and the Partridge Creek Mall. I have been using this line for about seven years now…it is fantastic.  My mom and I each had a $150 facial that Joanne only charges $32 for – if you live in the area, you absolutely need to make an appointment to get one.  Here is a quick breakdown of the amazing facials we each got in Kleraderm’s private spa room at Nordies:

  • First, Joanne cleansed my face with Collagen Cleansing Milk topped with a Salmon Egg Mask, which she left on for 10 minutes then wiped off with hot towel.  The Salmon Egg Mask is not offered retail, it’s something special she brought from Italy and it is only used in the spa. This mask is rich in vitamins and repairs the hydro-lipid layer, boosting skin with vital energy while busting up formations of free radicals. When used with the Collagen Cleansing Milk it boosts the cleansing process, giving deep pore cleansing with no scrub, no brush, no glycolic acid.
  • Next, she applied Collagen + Elastin (Collastin) Serum all over the face and neck, paying special attention to the eye area. Collagen + Elastin Serum is a very powerful serum that can only be applied three times a week. It is one of Kleraderm’s top shelf products and is not offered at Nordstrom, although it can be purchased directly from Joanne or at any of the private salons that carry Kleraderm.  Collastin Serum is made from Kleraderm’s own native bio-identical collagen and elastin fibers.  The fibers actually wrap around the body’s own collagen, giving strength back to the skin’s collagen fibers and adding suspension to the elastin fibers.  Skin becomes smooth and lifted, fine lines disappear and wrinkles lose depth.
  • Next, Joanne applied the Anti-Age Mask. This mask is in a delicate tissue-type form made of compressed collagen fibers and compressed cholesterol fibers (the same fibers that suspend skin), it looks like a thin fabric. She adhered the mask to my face with the Collastin Serum. Once the tissue mask was in place she activated it with small amounts of warm water, which turned the mask from tissue to transparent, then into a gel-like substance. (What was so cool is I could watch the entire facial process as Joanne gave my mom her facial – I’d never seen all this stuff in action before because I keep my eyes closed and relax during my own facial!)  Joanne massaged the collagen gel gently into my skin until it was completely absorbed.
  • Then Joanne applied yet another mask, the truly amazing Kleraderm Vitamin C Peel-Off Mask. Yet another top shelf product, this mask is only offered in spa and it is the first Vitamin C product where the C is stable. Vitamin C is fantastic for skin, but it is very unstable so products that contain it can lose efficacy quickly.  The Vitamin C is treated so that it becomes a powder, and when mixed with water Joanne has about two minutes to get it applied properly.  Then my skin got 100% Vitamin C along with many other vitamins and cell nourishment, and even better the nourishment from this mask kept working on my skin for 72 hours – that’s three days of vitamin therapy and cell nourishment.  When the mask had depleted itself of all the active ingredients right into my skin, it turned into rubber…it was beyond cool.  Joanne then pulled the mask off in one sweeping motion, just like a huge Biore strip.  The mask pulled everything that had loosened up right out of my pores, but without any harshness or irritation to my skin.
  •  After the mask, Joanne applied more Collastin Serum all over my face and neck, then put eye gel around my eye area and topped it with eye cream.  She also moistened my lips with eye cream. Next she applied Ysaline Filler Cream all over my face.  She loves to use this during all of her facials because Ysaline is loaded with OMEGA 3-6-9 fatty acids and she says all skin types do very good with OMEGA.
  • Finally, she moisturized me with Collagen Moisturizer.  My skin loved the product and I think I will do very well with it this winter.

Not only did my mom and I walk out with fantastically glowing skin, we also scooped up two Kleraderm Butter Scrubs.  I hate to tell you this, but there were a limited number of these available and I think they may be gone…but they are SO GOOD I have to share.

Inside the caramel goodness

Inside the caramel goodness

This is one of those reviews where I seriously wish we had ‘Smell-O-Vision’, because the scent of these babies is just to die for.  The Caramel Butter Scrub is indeed buttery smelling carameliciousness, and the Blackcurrent is tart smelling and makes my mouth water.  They both come in reusable glass Weck jars.

Kleraderm Blackcurrent Butter Scrub

Kleraderm Blackcurrent Butter Scrub

Inside...so good I want to eat it with a spoon

Inside…so good I want to eat it with a spoon

The Butter Scrubs are powerful exfoliators and total hydrators. The exfoliating action is blended in a body butter of cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, and grapeseed oil. This smooth butter quickly sinks deep into the skin and is activated by the body’s natural temperature. The natural exfoliant in the Caramel Butter Scrub is spun sugar, while the Blackcurrent Butter Scrub has powdered blackcurrent seed.  They ever so gently remove impurities and dead cells from the outer layer of the skin.  You immerse yourself in a hot bath after applying the Butter Scrub, and you can feel the dead skin cells coming off your body while the butter leaves you baby soft and totally hydrated. The bath water becomes a cocoon of warm butter wrapped all over your body and you never want to get out of the tub.  If I am in a hurry, I rub some all over right before my shower and then spend the rest of the day marveling at how soft my skin is.

Joanne actually GAVE THESE AWAY with a previous special…I just can’t believe it.  They are so good it’s criminal.

This upcoming weekend, Nordstrom at Partridge Creek Mall is having their annual BOL/Beauty on Location event, although this year Nordstrom changed the name to “Pretty Party”.  Kleraderm is hosting skin care classes and they have outstanding gifts with purchase.  Whatever you purchase will come in this bag:

The shopping bag - it comes with a zippered makeup bag!

Michael Todd True Organics – cleanser, scrub and giveaway

Michael Todd True Organics is a new brand to us on Beauty Info Zone and one that we’ve been testing out to tell you about. They’ve been very generous with us in sending products so that we can learn about them and share that information with you. Plus their generosity extends to our readers since they’ve offered a giveaway that I’ll write about at the end of this review.

Michael Todd Honey and Oat Cleanser and Jojoba Charcoal Scrub

Michael Todd Honey and Oat Cleanser and Jojoba Charcoal Scrub

Michael Todd True Organics is an excellent organic skincare company that interestingly enough was created by the owner of Scunci hair products. Scunci is the number one selling brand for hair accessories; I know I’ve got a drawer filled with items from them. The owner, Lewis Hendler, saw a lack of truly natural/organic products on the market. He saw products that called themselves that but they contained ingredients like mineral oil which suffocate skin. After much research his line was created to nourish your skin the same way you’d nourish your body with food. All products are Made in the U.S. with certified organic ingredients, without added water and free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrance or artificial dyes.”

Michael Todd Honey and Oat Cleanser

Michael Todd Honey and Oat Cleanser

There are 4 different cleansers in the Michael Todd True Organic product line and the one I have is Honey and Oat, Gentle Deep-Pore Cleanser ($24). I was actually a little leery to start using this cleanser. My mind pictured it as thick, maybe difficult to remove and possibly sticky. Boy was I wrong. This has quickly become my cleanser of choice. I absolutely love it. I’m always complaining about fragrance in products but this time I’m going to rave. It has a very pleasant aroma of sweet lemon with a touch of honey added to it.

Michael Todd Honey and Oat Cleanser

Michael Todd Honey and Oat Cleanser

The important thing though is that this cleans my face gently and efficiently. If I use a toner or exfoliating pad after cleansing, nothing seems to be remaining. This has gently removed my makeup without stripping it of the natural oils it needs. It’s a gel cleanser that foams up slightly. I’ve been using it a lot with my Foreo Luna and they are a great combination. But I’ve also used it with just a washcloth and have been equally impressed with its cleansing ability.

Michael Todd Honey and Oat Cleanser

Michael Todd Honey and Oat Cleanser

To be honest I’m not so sure about the deep pore cleansing though. I guess I expected it to be more exfoliating in order to do that. It gets my pores clean but I don’t think it’s exfoliating just a terrific cleanser. I don’t need to worry about that though because Michael Todd True Organics has a slew of great scrubs that do that job well.

Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Scrub

Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Scrub

There are 3 scrubs that Michael Todd makes and I’ve got two of them. Today I’m going to tell you about the Jojoba Charcoal Scrub ($18). This is their gentle exfoliating facial scrub. It contains Jojoba Wax Beads and Activated Charcoal. The scrub’s goal is to remove dead skin and impurities from your skin. The jojoba wax beads are what provides the gentle exfoliation which the charcoal penetrates into your pores to draw out the impurities.

Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub

Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub

Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub

Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub

What I learned with Jojoba Charcoal Scrub is that I need to use this in the shower. It’s a little too messy to use at the sink and I have a difficult time removing all of the product if I do it there. Instead I’ve been using it in my shower where I can get my face super wet and rinse it off more thoroughly. I then follow it with the Honey and Oat Cleanser and a washcloth. This removes the beads and charcoal and at the same time gives my skin back the hydration.  It’s gentle enough to use as often as you wish though I use it about twice a week.

Now I promised you a giveaway and here’s what it’s all about. Their PR company is going to send 3 full size products to one lucky US winner. They will pick which three out of this list: Knu Anti Aging Face Lift Serum, Jojoba Charcoal Scrub, Avocado Mango Mask, Charcoal Detox Cleanser, Pink Grapefruit Lotion, Liposome Antioxidant Moisturizer, Eye-O-Sonic Ultrasonic Ionic Serum Infuser, Peppermint Wake Up Wash, Pumpkin Mask Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask. We don’t know which ones they’ll choose so it will be a surprise. In the Rafflecopter I’ve asked which would be your favorite to win and we’ll pass that information on to them just in case they would like to make that wish come true. But even if you don’t get that one,  it’s still a win-win situation since if you do win you’ll get three terrific Michael Todd True Organic skincare products. The giveaway lasts through 9/26/13 at 11:59 p.m. eastern time and is for US subscribers only.

Here’s the motto of Michael Todd: “You’ll love what’s in it. You’ll love even more what’s not.” We love it! — Marcia

One of my favorite stores for handmade body products is Shannon’s Soaps.  Her products are the highest quality, they work great and they smell even better.  Here are three of my must-haves for summer.

Shannon’s Soaps Jasmine Balm

Shannon recommended the Jasmine Balm ($5.00) to me and I am so glad she did!  If you have itchy skin, dry cuticles, chapped lips…you need this, stat!

Jasmine Balm on the inside

Not only is this balm fantastic at healing your skin, it also smells flipping amazing.  I am not kidding.  It is the best jasmine scent out there.  I put this in my purse and find myself taking it out just to take a big whiff every so often.  It also works as a great hair pomade/wax, and a tiny bit smoothed over fly aways makes them disappear.

Shannon’s Soaps Salt Bar in Sex on the Beach

If you want to make sure you are beautifully exfoliated for your summer faux tan, you need Sex on the Beach ($3.00).  No, not the drink…or the act…both are great, but not for exfoliating.  Shannon’s Sex of the Beach Salt Bar is a terrific way to get exfoliated and clean at the same time.

See the super fine salt?

I think this bar looks good enough to eat.  The salt in it is just perfect, it’s actually a fine dendritic salt instead of fine sea salt.  So while you do feel the scrubbiness, it’s nowhere near being harsh on your skin.  Plus each salt bar is superfatted 20% for conditioning with 60% salt for exfoliating.

This is a just a gorgeous bar – and it smells gorgeous too!

I used to order Sex on the Beach at the bar just so I could say that to the bartender.  Now I ask my hubby if he wants to join me for some Sex on the Beach, and then I make him scrub my back with this!!

Yummy – Tropical Coconut Soap!!

And my final must-have summer item from Shannon’s Soaps is the Tropical Coconut Soap (3.8 – 4.2 oz bar is $4.00).  Her soaps are terrific – they foam up perfectly, moisturize the skin, and have just enough scent to be heavenly.  This one is a six oil soap with macadamia nut oil, palm, coconut, olive, castor, and sunflower oils.  It’s the perfect summer scent and my go-to summer soap.

If you haven’t checked out Shannon’s Soaps yet, now is a great time with all the perfect summer products!  – Lisa
