Drugstore winners: three workhorse products from Sally Hansen

Drugstore winners from Sally HansenThe cosmetics and body products that adorn my cluttered shelves fall into one of two categories: special but somewhat impractical items that I love and workhorse items that I always have on hand. The drugstore line Sally Hansen has some terrific workhorse items and there are three that I am especially fond of.                                                                                       samples, affiliate links

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Beige Glow

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Beige Glow

Airbrush Legs is a product that is always on my shelf. I am not a big fan of pantyhose, but I’m also not a big fan of pasty white legs. This takes care of that problem in just seconds, covering up any veins and imperfections and making legs look thinner all at the same time. Check out my leg – this is about 2 weeks after a spray tan, so it’s flaking off and I have uneven patches…yuck.

Before Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs
Here is the same leg literally seconds later after applying Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Beige Glow.

After Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Beige GlowThis spray on leg makeup makes natural legs look wonderful. Just shake the bottle and spray – I stand in the shower so that any side spray is easily washed away. Don’t spray too close to your legs or you’ll lose the airbrush effect – if that happens, I blend it out with a makeup sponge. The finish has a bit of a gleam that really looks pretty. I find that the spray lasts all day without wearing off and is water-resistant, although it’s not perfect on extremely hot and sweaty days. It washes off easily with soap and water and is just so comfortable for those days when I can’t even stand the thought of putting on pantyhose. It’s especially awesome for correcting self tanner ‘oops’.

Sally Hansen has tons of nail polish options in shades that range from special occasion to workhorse perfect. I am a big fan of the nail polish because the applicator brush is fantastic – it’s flat and wide, so I can cover an entire nail in just two strokes. My workhorse shade is #325 Au Nature-al ($7.99), a perfect nude. It’s classy and goes with absolutely everything. I also love the Complete Care 7-in-1 Nail Treatment ($12.99).This clear polish contains avocado oil, sea salt, pomegranate extract and calcium.Talk about a multi-tasker – it works as a base coat, top coat, ridge-filler, brightener, and nail moisturizer. It also makes nails stronger and promotes growth.  Sally Hansen Complete Care 7-in-1 Nail Treatment

For excellent basics that you will reach for day after day, Sally Hansen is a reliable and practical choice. Be sure to check out the Airbrush Legs and the nail polishes for workhorse items that won’t let you down.  – Lisa

Looking for Pantone 2016? Here are some favorites from IT Cosmetics, Sally Hansen and Surratt Beauty

pantone colors of the year 2016pantone 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is sure that you’ve seen the above pictures of the new PANTONE COLORS OF THE YEAR 2016. Two pastels that make me very happy because they are shades that I can easily wear and want to own. I’ve always loved pink and I wear a lot of blue. Rose Quartz and Serenity will be featured in a lot of cosmetics and clothes, especially for spring. But let’s see what you can get right now.pantone makeup wars

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Arm Candy and In Full Blue-m

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Arm Candy and In Full Blue-m

Sally Hansen has some terrific polishes that will be perfect for your Pantone needs. They include

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Sugar Fix, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in In Full Blue-m, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Set Sail

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Crème de la Crème, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Arm Candy,  Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Petal Pusher

When wearing Sally Hansen I mostly use their Complete Salon Manicure polishes so I was thrilled to receive In Full Blue-m and Arm Candy.  Arm Candy is a sheer light pink that I needed three coats of to make sure that there wasn’t visible nail lines showing, I’d probably do better with 4 coats though since its quite sheer. In Full Blue-m is a grayed blue on me. It was a little beyond a typical pastel and is a great winter blue. With the Complete Salon Manicure polishes I get a long wear with great shine.

IT COSMETICS LIPSTICK AND LIP GLOSSES

IT Cosmetics is a great brand to turn to for a dose of Pantone 2016. There are 3 lip products that being considered this year’s shades: Je Ne Sais Quoi Vitality Lip Flush, Je Ne Sais Quoi Vitality Lip Blush Hydrating Lip Gloss Stain, and New Anchor Blue Vitality Lip Flush Butter Gloss. That may be a mouthful but your mouth won’t care once you are wearing any of these.

IT Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi Vitality Lip Flush and Hydrating Lip Gloss Stain

We’ve talked about the Je Ne Sais Quoi line for quite a while. The Vitality Lip Flush is one I’ve used often. It looks almost clear in the tube but your body temperature and chemistry is what’s going to create the color. It’s the mood ring of lipstick. It has amazing hydration and a great shine so it bucks the matte trend (which is good news for me). It contains plum oil, cherry oil, shea butter, argan & jojoba, vitamins C&E, green & white tea and aloe.

Je Ne Sais Quoi Vitality Lip Blush Hydrating Lip Gloss Stain has similar qualities and ingredients. It has more shine and even more hydration if that’s possible to believe. There are 9 butters and oils that make up this formula. I found this adorable Your Je Ne Sais Quoi Set at Ulta that contains both the Lipstick and Gloss in an adorable bag for just $28. Total bargain. Total Pantone 2016.

News Anchor Blue Vitality Flush Butter Gloss is the most fun lipgloss ever. No you won’t have blue lips but your teeth will look whiter wearing this gloss. This applies on your lips as a teeny bit light blue but is really clear. It counteracts the yellow you might have on your teeth to make your smile look even brighter. If you are in love with hydrating glosses then IT Cosmetics is what you want on your shopping list.

SURRATT CULTIVE PRISMATIQUE LIPSTICK was one of my treats to myself during the VIB sale. I couldn’t resist this blue lipstick that turns opalescent pink once applied. It’s wonderful to apply over another lipstick to change that up too. I’m a big fan of the Surratt Prismatique lipsticks and just could resist this fun one.

Last is a product I don’t have but I am seriously eyeing,  YOUNGBLOOD GLAMOUR EYES PALETTE. I’ve seen this on a variety of blogs and I love the particular shades of blue in it. I like that they are paired with browns making it easy to wear. Glamour Eyes is the next palette on my list.

Inspired by Fashion – Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Maasai Red, Midnight Affair, Rose Glass

SALLY HANSEN Nail Polishes are probably the best known brand available. For many years fashion designers have loved working with the Sally Hansen team to create polishes unique for their shows. This year three famous fashion houses asked Sally Hansen to collaborate on the color palette that they were showcasing this fall. The choice of Complete Salon Manicure is perfect for these shows since it’s an all-in-one polish. There’s a built-in base and top coat, they are chip resistant, and they have gel like shine without the hassle.

Prabal Gurung collaborated with Sally Hansen for the tenth consecutive season to create three exclusive nail polish shades to compliment his Fall 2015 collection, which is a graphic, modern take on effortless glamour. Three shades were chosen by Prabal Gurung. I have Midnight Affair which is a stunning navy that isn’t black based. The two other shades for Prabal Gurung’s fashions are Leaf Peeper and Concrete Jungle.

Rodarte is actually a team of sister designers who are known for their amazing style and a touch of controversy. “For the fifth season in a row, Rodarte has once again turned to nail color authority Sally Hansen to create three limited edition Complete Salon Manicure nail polish colors. The designers’ highly anticipated Fall 2015 Collection served as a muse for Sally Hansen’s nail color creations. The Fall 2015 nails are inspired by translucent color and the subtlety of watercolors.”  These are more sheer than the other two collections, almost like a chiffon. With Rose Glass I need at least 3 coats because of my long nails but someone with shorter nails could do less. Rose Glass is a perfect work shade – still stylish but not over the top.

Tracy Reese For Sally Hansen in Yummy Yam, Maasai Red, and Winter Sky

To prove how great Sally Hansen is, this is the 19th consecutive year that Tracy Reese has collaborated with Sally Hansen for the shades that best compliment her designs. Maasai Red was a one coater though I chose to wear two coats to get extra depth.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes sell for $7.99 MSRP and can be found at Target, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid and more. These are great for home manicures because you don’t need anything except the polish. You just need a steady hand, an orange stick to clean the sides and a little time to let them dry. Then you too can be a fashion maven without worry about spending your mortgage/rent money. —  Marcia

Top Ten red nail polishes

Favorite red nail polishes #beautyinfozone

Favorite red nail polishes #beautyinfozone

It’s Top Ten Tuesday and we’re going red. Each blogger is picking their favorite red items so they could be anything. I’m all about red nails. I love red nail polish and wore it for years and years. I’d wear pink in the summer and red the rest of the year. I’ve expanded horizons but to me there’s nothing like a good red. If it’s metallic, that’s all the better.

In no particular order here are the reds I can wear again and again and never tire of. In the meantime my nail drawers are filled with more reds but I narrowed it down to:

butter LONDON, A-England, FACE Stockholm, Illamasqua, FABY

butter LONDON, A-England, FACE Stockholm, Illamasqua, FABY

1.  butter LONDON Knees Up – this metallic red speaks for itself. It lasts and lasts and shines the entire time. This is one of my very favorite butter LONDON polishes and it’s still available.

2.  a-england Perceval – this is called a ‘splendid and resplendent red’ by a-england and it’s definitely splendid. I am a big fan of a-england polishes and would own them all if I could. This deep ruby has a subtle shimmer that makes it perfect.

3.  FACE Stockholm 128 – This polish was in one of my Wantable subscription boxes and I’ve never been so happy to see a polish. 128 is the perfect red that is ultimately wearable. I love a cool red and this does the job.

4.  Illamasqua Scarab – I haven’t worn this polish in forever and in my mind it was redder than it shows on the wheel. Instead it’s a stunning deep burgundy with subtle shimmer that’s a touch metallic.

5.  FABY Lacquer in Hibiscus Bloom – A little known Italian brand that makes gorgeous polish. This beautiful red has some pink shimmer in it to make it even more special.

6.  Color Me Monthly Just For You – I’m wearing this right now actually because it’s a beautiful metallic red and I can’t resist metallic red shades. CMM is a monthly subscription for $7 a month. When you receive a color like this, you know it’s the right subscription service to belong to. This is currently available for $9 in their Vault and I highly recommend it.

7.  Zoya Lisa – I bought Lisa in one of Zoya’s sales and it was the best choice. I love the shimmer in this because it’s definitely there yet it’s subtle and easy to remove. It’s a cherry red which I especially love in the summer.

8.  ncLA Satin Sheets Velvet Ropes –  What can I say? It’s red, it lasts, it’s cruelty-free, and it’s beautiful.

10.. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Red Eye – This is new to me and boy do I love it. I hated to buy the top coat too but now that I’ve had a chance to experience one of the polishes I’ll go back for more. On the Sally Hansen site there are so many beautiful shades of Miracle Gel.
