Welcoming spring with Jane Iredale’s newest collection

jane iredale spring collection

The sun is finally shining and spring flowers are starting to pop up. While the BIZ team loves those signs of spring, an even greater sign is this collection from Jane Iredale that we were sent.

This Spring Color collection is aptly named Makeup on Nude and contains 2 peachy pink eyeshadow trios, 2 new Pure Moist lipsticks, a new cream blush stick, and a new Peaches & Cream Bronzer. Sounds and looks beautiful.jane iredale look

Jane Iredale’s philosophy is that cosmetics should be good for your skin and easy to apply. “Her goal is to make products that look good, feel good and are good for the skin.  Products must be easy to apply, as well, so that a woman can be her best in the shortest amount of time.” She achieved this in her latest collection. Thank you Jane!

When Lisa and I divided these up I grabbed the InTouch Cream Blush in Candid. Years ago I had this in Clarity and loved it. These blushes are small but mighty. They are perfect to take with you because they’ll fit in your purse/makeup bag without being bulky. The tube may be short but the top is perfect for application. This just glides on and smooths out easily. It’s not a tacky blush because it’s a cream to powder formula.

Candid is one of 5 shades and one I highly recommend for spring. It contains just the right amount of peach to make it spring perfect. My favorite cream blushes have always been from Jane Iredale and this is no exception. Most cream blushes aren’t in it for the long run but Candid In Touch Cream Blush sticks around. I love the color and I love that there’s no fragrance.

Mineral Quad Bronzer in Peaches & Cream isn’t a bronzer on me at all. Instead it’s a multi-use powder that will add a beautiful shine but no shimmer. I’ve used this all over by taking a fluffy brush or fan brush and sweeping it on my face to liven up all this winter paleness. I’ve even used it as eyeshadows since the colors individually are so beautiful.

When I sweep my brush evenly across the 4 shades I end up with a peach shade that isn’t orange on me. It lightens and brightens at the same time. I use this all over very lightly or I’ll concentrate on my cheekbones.

I’m all about eyeshadow but I saved it for last so that you can see the two trios that are just fabulous. I have PurePressed Eyeshadow Trio in Pink Quartz while Lisa will share the other new trio in Soft Kiss. You’ll fall for them both!

Jane Iredale PurePressed Eyeshadow Trio in Pink Quartz

Jane Iredale PurePressed Eyeshadow Trio in Pink Quartz

This is a little bit of heaven for me. They are exactly the colors I’ve been craving lately. I had put together a similar trio but it took me three different palettes to create it. My vanity was filled. Then I opened Pink Quartz and sighed. This single compact has everything I love. According to Jane Iredale it has matte light pink, shimmery soft pink and shimmery cool plum. To me and on me though I find it to be a matte very light pink, a shimmery peach, and a shimmery taupe that’s not too dark.

I’ve added the bronze shade in the Peaches & Cream Bronzer refill too for a little more definition. The shadows look powdery when I take a brush to them but they aren’t that way on my eyes at all. I have had no fallout but I have had full day coverage with an eyeshadow primer. The colors are beautiful, they last long, and they can be used wet or day. Plus they are vegan and cruelty free. LISA SHARES:

The Jane Iredale Spring 2017 Collection has super pretty shades that are definitely getting me in the mood for green trees and warm days.

Jane Iredale Soft Kiss Purepressed Eyeshadow Triple

My PurePressed Eyeshadow Triple is called Soft Kiss. The shades are a red based purple/mauve, slightly shimmery brownish taupe, and matte warm pink. I am very indecisive so putting together colors can be a real challenge for me. That’s why I love trios, and this one is a real winner. I use the lightest shade as an all over wash, the taupe shade in the crease, then the darkest shade also in the crease and down to line my upper lid. It makes for a very pretty, feminine eye, especially with deep black eyeliner and tons of mascara.

The eyeshadows are soft yet pigmented, and they don’t fade or crease on me. Nicely done, Jane Iredale!

The PureMoist Lipstick ($25) comes in a whopping 27 shades and the two new shades for spring are Lisa and Susan. This lipstick has a nice slip and a natural coverage – not too sheer and not too opaque. Even if you don’t normally wear lipstick I think you will like this one. The ingredients include natural oils and superfruit extracts, so lips feel very soft without any fragrance or taste.

Lisa is a creamy rose beige. Of course I love the name (!!) but I also love this shade, which is a fabulously neutral color that goes with everything. Lisa is one for the purse because you will find yourself reaching for this all-purpose lippie constantly no matter what time of day and what color your outfit.

Favorite setting products – powders and sprays

Do you have products that help you finish your makeup each day? That’s what Top Ten Tuesday is about this week. There are some great products available for this job and I’ve picked the favorites that I’ve used. When I’m done I hope you’ll share some of yours with me.

I have to start with IT COSMETICS since I talk about the brand all the time. The product that I’ve used up twice is IT COSMETICS BYE BYE PORES aka Bye Bye Pores Silk HD Anti-Aging Micro-Powder. Once I discovered this powder I stopped using the drawer full I had from Laura Mercier, Kevyn Aucoin, and more. I still use those occasionally but they aren’t in my top ten! Silky soft and it does blur my pores just like it says it will.

Once they came out with Bye Bye Pores Airbrush Silk Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder I had to buy that too.  This pressed powder is great for travel and on the go.

Purely Cosmetics Diamond Perfect Finish Powder is fabulous. I love this powder and am currently on my second one. Powder takes forever and a day for me to finish so the fact that I’ve gone through one and a half jars of this speaks for itself. Diamond Finish sets my makeup, blurs my pores, and gives me a beautiful finish that isn’t matte.

One more loose powder in this group: Pixi Beauty Quik Fix Powder in Translucid wins for the best packaging as well as being a great powder. This is very lightweight and invisible on my skin. It contains great ingredients like aloe vera and cucumber extract to smooth along with grape extract which acts as an antioxidant.

Mally Evercolor Poreless Face Defender is really a cheat since it’s not a powder or a spray but it’s a staple in my cosmetic wardrobe. It has a very unusual texture and gives a matte finish. It’s wonderful for blurring fine lines and pores. There’s no dryness like powder can give.

Now on to the sprays. Skindinavia has two sprays that I have to recommend: Makeup Primer Spray and the Makeup Finishing Spray are both wonderful. Other brands like Urban Decay sell these but they are made by Skindinavia. The Primer Spray is just like it sounds. Spray this one after your skincare is on and it helps deliver a smoother finish for your foundation. The Finishing Spray is to be applied after all your makeup is on and it helps keep your makeup in place for the day. It’s especially great for being outdoors. They even make this in Oil Control and a Bridal version.

A much less expensive version is  Hard Candy Fast & Fabulous Makeup Setting Spray at Walmart. This is only $6.30 compared to the $30ish prices of Skindinavia. It’s not bride proof but it’s a good way to see if a spray is for you.

When I was in the midst of hot flashes I relied on Youngblood Minerals in the Mist. I was at IMATS and I looked like someone had dropped a bucket of water on me. I was shopping at Youngblood and they recommended it in Refresh for me and it saved the trip. I carried it around with me to refresh my skin. I’ve since used it up but if I ever go through that misery again, I’d repurchase.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder for an airbrush finish

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder

About a month ago I finished my IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Loose Powder up – down to the very last bits of the powder. I thought I had a replacement but it turned out to be a different IT Loose Powder in Light and was too dark for me. Well that meant shopping time which isn’t hard when it comes to IT Cosmetics. IT had come out with their translucent powder in a pressed version so I changed from a favorite to a new type of powder. I’m so brave!

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder compact

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder compact

The compact for Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder is very sturdy and is easy to take with you anywhere. There’s a great mirror, the powder, and a sponge applicator for when you are on the go. I had been a fan of MAC Blot Powder for oodles of years but now that IT has this option, I’ve switched.

The powder is definitely translucent as you can see below (there was no way to get a swatch of it)

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder

This wonderful powder is subtitled “Airbrush Silk Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder”. IT Cosmetics is known for their anti-aging ingredients and I need that. The powder contains anti-aging peptides, collagen, silk & anti-oxidants, plus optical-blurring drops of light technology. Got that? It sounds like it was made for me.

The powder is buildable but I like a light sweep of it to set my foundation. Too much and the blurring goes away on me. My deep set pores eat powder so the less the better. If you have oily or combination skin this doubles as a blot powder.

Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush

Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush

At one point we were sent sent IT’s Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush (No. 8) and I couldn’t wait to try this brush out with the powder. Talk about heavenly!! Geez this brush is the epitome of softness that’s amazingly effective. It’s spoiled me for any other brush to use with my pressed powder and now for other powders including highlighters and loose powder.

Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush

Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush

As with all IT Cosmetic brushes this is uniquely crafted by sculpting and trimming the head of the brush, in this case to form a perfect round ball shape. I can’t recommend this brush enough. It makes applying Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder a delight and never a chore. I didn’t know it was possible to look forward to applying powder before.

While I’m happy I bought the Bye Bye Pores Pressed, I do miss the original Bye Bye Pores Silk HD Anti-Aging Micro Powder and will replace that. It will give me more excuses to use the HEAVENLY Ball Wand brush after all. Have you tried this new pressed powder? — Marcia

Purely Cosmetics and IT Cosmetics have some amazing powders

When pulling out powders for the latest edition of Top Ten Tuesday I found that everything I use is either from Purely Cosmetics or IT Cosmetics. I hadn’t thought about it before but all the other powders I have from Laura Mercier, Kevyn Aucoin, Scott Barnes, MAC Cosmetics, and more just sit waiting to be chosen. But when you find things you love, that’s what you use. These don’t add up to 10 but they are what gets used constantly and that’s more important than a number.
1432000173_makeup-wars-pores-powder-300x225PURELY COSMETICS DIAMOND PERFECT FINISH POWDER is my favorite finishing powder by far. I use this constantly. I finish nothing ever as far as cosmetics go but my current Diamond Powder is ready to say bye-bye but I will surely BUY BUY it again.I’ve been using this for years and plan on always using it. The packaging is ideal with a top that opens to get out the amount you desire plus you can close it up to prevent spilling. It costs $20 and will last you for years. No shimmer involved, just a soft diamond finish. *
1432001448_byebyepores_new2IT COSMETICS BYE BYE PORES SILK HD ANTI-AGING MICRO POWDER – I’m a huge IT Cosmetics fan obviously and this is my number 1 powder that they sell (and they have a lot of great powders). After I discovered IT Cosmetics this is the second product I bought from them (after Bye Bye Undereye) and I’ve rebought it several times. It keeps me shine free and gives me a more youthful appearance. It’s a Win-Win powder.
1431999940_goldpackagingPURELY COSMETICS SKIN SMOOTHING FOUNDATION and PURE MINERALS FOUNDATION – There are two formulas that are made by Purely Cosmetics. Both are wonderful and I recommend buying sample sizes of each. That way you can test the two products and check for your color.  Skin Smoothing Foundation is the newer of the two. It’s very hydrating because of the silk powder added to it. Plus it helps absorb oil, blur fine lines, nourish your skin (with jojoba) and reduce the look of your pores. It’s great for dry to slightly skin but not very oily skin. Pure Minerals Foundation is their original formula. It’s free of all chemicals and talc as is Skin Smoothing Foundation.  Pure Minerals Foundation is good for all skin types and especially so if you have acne or oily skin since nothing will clog your pores. And the nice thing is that you can add Silk Powder to it if you want. I have several shades in sample sizes which are perfect for finding that perfect match. *
1431999676_mac-blot-powderMAC BLOT POWDER used to always be in my Back2MAC pile since I used it exclusively for probably a dozen years. I always have one in my stash even though I don’t use it as often as I used to since discovering PC and IT. It’s the one MAC product I whole heartedly recommend when asked.
1431999578_it-hello-light-open-300x225IT COSMETICS HELLO LIGHT RADIANCE POWDER – A pressed powder that’s all sort of goodness. If you want that extra radiance to your complexion, this is the answer. As with all IT powders it’s finally milled and never looks powdery. It gives just a hint of glow but isn’t overpowering at all. I think this has been changed to the Illuminating Powder though. *
1431999502_it-cosmetics-new-year-collection13-1-290x300IT COSMETICS CELEBRATION FOUNDATION ILLUMINATION is actually one of two powder foundations from IT.  It’s hydrating, anti-aging, and gives just a subtle radiance. I prefer this to the original Celebration Foundation since it looks and feels more moisturizing.
1431999413_it-cosmetics-qvc-foundation-300x225IT COSMETICS CELEBRATION FOUNDATION is a more matte foundation with great coverage. It’s loaded with all the anti-aging ingredients that IT is known for. I wear this in Fair which is for the lightest skintones; it’s also available in Light, Medium, Rich and Tan. Mine is from a TSV (don’t miss their QVC specials!). *
1431999296_it-january-tsv-powder-compactIT FOUNDATIONS CC+ AIRBRUSH FOUNDATION is the newest powder foundation from IT. This too was part of a QVC TSV. It needs to be sold separately since it’s fabulous when used with their CC+ Cream.

Update on IT Cosmetic’s 1/19 TSV

IT Cosmetics It’s a New Year, Most Beautiful Skin promo picture

I’m sad to say that the IT Cosmetics TSV from January 19th is sold out. It is such a wonderful kit. I received one from PR but too late to show the products but I also bought one for myself that will soon be for my very excited sister.  Most of the products will be available individually though so I want to share my update with pictures.it january tsv card

There were 5 fabulous products that were new to the kit. I have the kit in Fair and it’s a great shade for my fair skin.

CC+ Eye Color Correcting Full Coverage Cream –
I’ve been a fan of IT Cosmetic’s Concealers for years and I own them all. This fuller coverage concealer is a treat because of the packaging (and of course the product). The packaging is called Cold Spoon Technology and it’s a refreshing touch of cool when you apply it. Just don’t squeeze too hard since a little goes a long way. This blends in beautifully and lasts. Plus it’s giving much needed SPF 50+ coverage.

CC+ Color Correcting Full Coverage Cream Compact is the product I was most anxious to try and it was definitely worth the wait. This isn’t the cushion product that we’ve started to see. It’s their wonder CC+ Cream in compact form. Push the button and the product comes out. I use the sponge it comes with to apply. It’s wonderful for packing and it’s wonderful because it’s a fabulous CC Cream.

The CC+ Angled Buffing Foundation Brush is the a terrific brush for the products in this kit and for all the other facial products I use. IT Cosmetic brushes are amazing and I wish I owned them all. Like all products from IT, they are cruelty free. If you read a lot of raves about them it’s because they are uniquely wonderful. This Angled Buffing brush is great for buffing in foundation as well as for use with a powder product. It’s also great for blending your blush so it looks seamless on your face.

Blurred Lines Smooth-Fill Lipstick ™ in LOVE.  What a pretty shade this is. Love is described by IT as a nude pink but I don’t find it to be nude at all. To me it’s a more universal sheer shade of a rose/pink. It’s formulated with nourishing ingredients that are meant to hydrate your lips: shea butter, jojoba, grape seed extract, cherry oil and hyaluronic acid.

Powdering our noses the Painted Earth way

Painted Earth calls themselves Cosmetics from Nature for a good reason – all products are organic, non-toxic and natural. They don’t want us to trade our health for our beauty. They are especially known for their skincare but we’ve found that their cosmetics are pretty terrific and we want to share two of them with you today. You’ve hopefully already read about the Hint of Mint Lip Glosses that have Marcia smiling. Well we have more smiles for you with Magic Powder (it’s compelling just for the name!!) and a beautiful Silk Radiance Mineral High Lite Powder.

Mineral Silk Radiance Powder in Seychelles

I’ve been lucky enough to use Painted Earth’s Mineral Silk Radiance Powder in the shade Seychelles ($34). Now some people like bronzer but I prefer a soft powder like this instead to give my face a healthy glow. I’m as pale as can be and in general I embrace my paleness but in the dead of winter especially there are days that I look like the dead of winter! This Mineral Silk Radiance Powder is made up of powders in shades of peach, cream, pink and a rosy lavender. These are soft shades that combine to give a beautiful soft glow on my face.

Mineral Silk Radiance Powder in Seychelles

The powder contains great ingredients: Argan Oil to hydrate skin, Rice Silk to absorb excess shine, Multi-Mineral Complex from Painted Earth along with Vitamins A, C and E to help product skin from the environment. There is no talc in this powder and it’s mineral oil free.

After I’ve got my “face on” I love to take a big fluffy powder brush, sweep it over the powder and finish with it to set my makeup. It’s just enough to make me look alive while imparting a brightened look without ever looking powdery. This is just one of the many Painted Earth products that I’m thrilled to have.

LISA’S POWDER:

This is one of the weirdest products I have ever tried. And I mean that in a good way!! Magic Powder ($39.95) is the strangest, neatest finishing powders ever.  It really is magical!

Magic Powder

Magic Powder

Painted Earth says, “it’s a powder that magically turns into moisture when it is applied to your face. A difference you can see and feel. The Mineral Difference drawn from natures wonders, formulated into an unparalleled line of mineral cosmetics resulting in a more natural, beautiful YOU!”

This loose powder – and it does look exactly like a loose powder – somehow turns into a cool sort of liquid when it hits your face. The powder is still there, it still absorbs oil and finishes your makeup – but it also hydrates and gives skin a pretty, youthful glow.

looks like powder, feels like water!

I use this on my face and neck using a big powder fluff brush.  It’s perfect for days when I feel super dry thanks to indoor heating. I can’t wait for this summer because I know I am going to love that cool, moist feeling when it’s really hot out.

I can’t figure out how they did it, but it really works. Magic Powder starts as a loose powder, then becomes cool hydration for your skin, then works as a finishing powder to complete your look. I keep expecting David Copperfield to pop up next to my vanity…

MAC, Archie, Betty and Veronica – what a heartful team

Each year as Valentines day approaches the urge to buy something with hearts on it becomes stronger and stronger. I’ve got a beautiful collection of crystal hearts and don’t have room for more. So I turned to cosmetics, what a shock!  The last two years Stila had some beautiful blush palettes and this year MAC surprisingly came through. Their new Archie collection is loaded with hearts attracting me until I could take it no longer and I ordered MAC’s Archie Girls Flatter Me and Veronica’s Blush plus a mirror.

Flatter Me and Veronica's Blush

Flatter Me and Veronica’s Blush

I grew up with Betty and Veronica. My sister and I always loved the dark sultry looks of Veronica since we are brunettes. Neither of us fell for Archie though. Having these three items is like reliving my youth (and a good excuse to buy).

MAC Veronica's Blush

MAC Veronica’s Blush

The Pearlmatte Face Powder designed for Veronica is called Veronica’s Blush and the colors are a soft peach with coral hearts. Betty’s powder is Flatter Me and the colors are a very soft pink with scarlet hearts. The two beauty powders are beautiful and silky soft. The colored hearts are too tiny to be used as blush but they give you an option when using the compacts. You can use just the base shade for a very soft glow or you can sweep a brush over all of the colors and add more color to your face.

MAC Flatter Me

MAC Flatter Me

My big disappointment though is that I wasn’t aware that I actually had the beauty powders from before. If I’d known that I probably would have passed them up in spite of those little hearts. Veronica’s Blush is actually Play it Proper Beauty Powder with Frankly Scarlet blush while Flatter Me is Shell Pearl Beauty Powder with Foolish Me blush in the hearts. But when you run your blush or powder blush over the entire compact you’ll find that you get more color than the original Beauty Powder’s did. There’s a subtle sheen to these powders. If you notice they are called Pearlmatte, not Pearlmate, so even though they are similar to the original they aren’t exactly the same.

MAC Archie's Girls mirror

MAC Archie’s Girls mirror

The mirror is a good purse size and comes with a slightly larger pouch to carry it safely in. Of course I didn’t need it but it just was too cute to pass up. The mirror is about 3″ x 3″ and the adorable vinyl case it comes in is about 4 ½” x 4 ½”. I forgot to take a picture of the inside but it’s red with white hearts. For someone as addicted to hearts as I am, this is just the most fun to own and pull out. So far I’ve only had a few strange looks!! Now my big question is where is Reggie?  Maybe he and Jughead need to ask MAC to feature them next.archie mirrors

No surprise that this is a limited edition collection with some things selling out instantly. You can often find the products online at Nordstrom or in the stores. Are you a Betty or a Veronica? Did you get lured into Archie’s Girls? — Marcia
