Bronzers for those who don’t wear bronzers

Makeup Wars chose a topic for this week that is totally out of my comfort zone so I was sure I was going to bow out. I don’t fake tan, I don’t use bronzing lotions, and I barely wear bronzing cosmetics. But I gave this more time to come together in my head and I realized that I do wear bronzers every once in a while and the ones I use are so great that I need you to know about them. So I’m here with bronzers for those of you who don’t wear bronzers – I want to change your mind just like I changed mine.

favorite bronzers: IT Cosmetics Confidence in Your Glow, Pixi Beauty Strobe & Bronze, Senna Brilliant Bronze

Right now Pixi Beauty Strobe & Bronze (aka Strobe & Chisel Palette) that was done in collaboration with Maryam Maquillage is what’s gracing my vanity table and therefore my face. I have to tell you how much I love this palette even though I didn’t think of it at first when I thought bronzers. Yes it’s in the name but I don’t use it in the typical bronzer way. I actually just use these 6 shades as highlighters and blush.

Pixi Strobe & Bronze (Strobe & Chisel)

Pixi Strobe & Bronze (Strobe & Chisel)

There are 3 glow shades: Highline, Empress and Lex (peach, pinky lavender, gold) that satisfy my crazy urges for highlighting. I lust after highlighters but I know I’m too old to get away with them. But this palette satisfies my craving because the glow shades add an iridescence without adding glitter. All three are great blush toppers or highlighting shades – and yes I’ve worn them on my eyes.

Pixi Strobe & Bronze (Strobe & Chisel)

The 3 bronze/chisel shades: City Kitty, Statuesque, 917) are bronze without being too brown. The only true bronze in my opinion is Statuesque. City Kitty is a warm matte light brown that looks very natural on my skin while 917 has more of a pink undertone (that’s what my camera was picking up); I’d describe it as a cool light satin brown.

Pixi Strobe & Bronze (Strobe & Chisel)

At $20 Pixi has created a bargain palette that will carry you through all seasons and will work no matter what level of bronzing you prefer.

IT Cosmetics Confidence In Your Glow, Nude Glow and Heavenly Skin™ One-Sweep Wonder Brush #705

IT Cosmetics Confidence In Your Glow comes in three shades: Nude Glow, Natural Glow, and Warm Glow. Lisa has reviewed these here and I was insanely jealous and insisted that she bring me the one best for my pale complexion. I have gotten so much use out of this that it’s unreal. If I’m not wearing my precious cream blushes then it’s all about Nude Glow.

IT Cosmetics Confidence In Your Glow, Nude Glow

This triple threat has a little bit of highlighting, a beautiful blush, and a bronzing shade. I usually start with picking up the blush and applying it, then I’ll take the brush and sweep over all three shades to bring out the bronze and highlight. I make sure to use the brush from left to right to keep the lighter shades cleaner.

IT Cosmetics Confidence In Your Glow, Nude Glow

This is so silky soft that you’ll fall in love with it just for that reason. But remember it contains an anti-aging hydrolyzed collagen, peptides and Vitamin C infused formula. No shimmer in this at all. The brush is another amazing one from IT Cosmetics though you probably have a dual fiber brush you can use. If you want the brush as badly as I wanted it then go to QVC.com to purchase the set for $2 more than the compact alone.

Senna Brilliant Bronze in Dawn

Senna Cosmetics isn’t one that’s talked about much on beauty blogs but it’s a fabulous brand. Brilliant Bronze comes in two shades: Dawn and Sunset. This too is a duo of highlighter and bronzer. The difference between these Senna bronzers and my others is that the Senna is glittery. Dawn is gorgeous for cool toned complexions but I’ll only wear it for “fancy”. I don’t want to glitter in the day but give me a good party and I’m up for it.

Senna Dawn Brilliant Bronze

Senna’s Brilliant Bronze compacts are baked minerals that are said to condition skin with amino acids and nourishing plant proteins.

All three of the above are cruelty free products.

One last one that I couldn’t find for the main photo is a great drugstore find: Covergirl TruBlend Bronzer.

TruBlend Bronzer from Covergirl

TruBlend Bronzer has no shimmer but there’s a satiny finish that gives me some glow. What I love about this is that there’s no orange at all – just a beautiful golden bronze that I can lightly use to perk up my ghostly skin. This came out with the Katy Perry collection in a variety of shades but it seems like just the darkest one, Bronze, is still available.

What do you think of my bronzers for people who don’t use bronzers? Would any of these be suitable for you?  —  Marcia

Pixi does lips right with GelTint and SilkGloss

Pixi GelTint and SilkGloss

Do you love a simple stained lip? How about lovely gloss? Or a wonderful stain with a quick gloss over top?  Pxi Beauty has you covered on all fronts with their Pixi GelTint & SilkGloss ($12), a really terrific combo lippie that gives the best of all worlds in one package. There are three different combos available:  Hollywood Pink, Muted Clay, and Budding Orchid.

sample, affiliate links

Pixi GelTint and SilkGloss

One end has a lip stain that gives lips a matte stain that lasts for hours. It has a nice minty flavor and scent. The other end has a complimentary lip gloss that gives the stain depth, shine, and slip. Together they make a fabulous duo, although both the stain and the gloss can be worn alone so you are really getting three looks in one.

Long-lasting lip tint gives a beautiful stained effect
• Gloss keeps lips hydrated & nourished
• Adds a natural brilliance
• Use separately or layer
• Doesn’t dry lips out, hydrating
• Paraben free
• Not tested on animals

Hollywood Pink:  BerryTint and SweetGloss

Hollywood Pink:  BerryTint and SweetGloss

Hollywood Pink is a pink combo with a berry stain and a lighter pink gloss. This is a gorgeous combination that is actually perfect for transitioning into deeper fall colors. I probably reach for this one more often than the other three because it just seems to go with everything. It’s pink yet it has enough red tones to be very versatile.

Muted Clay:  BeachTint and FreshGloss

Muted Clay:  BeachTint and FreshGloss

Muted Clay is very fall season to me – what an interesting color combination! At first I thought no way is this going to work on me, but it’s actually quite flattering. I tried it on a few friends and was wowed every time too. BeachTint is an orange/brown tint that has some red tones, and FreshGloss is a lighter peachy/orange. It’s really beautiful – pick this one up for sweater weather!

Budding Orchid:  PinkTint and PrettyGloss

Somehow the computer ate my photo of Budding Orchid so I am using a stock photo until I can get another pic up. Budding Orchid is a gorgeous girlie combo of a bright pink lip tint and a clear gloss with little tiny shimmers. This is super feminine and super fun.

Left to right:  Muted Clay tint and gloss; Hollywood Pink tint and gloss; Budding Orchid tint and gloss.

Overall, I think Pixi GelTint & SilkGloss are wonderful lip stains and terrific lip glosses, and I love the versatility of having both together in one package. The price is great and the shades are beautiful.

You can find these lovelies at Target and PixiBeauty.com.  Pick up all three for some very happy lips!  – Lisa

Pixi Pixi Pixi, what summer wonders have you brought?

While the PIXI BEAUTY products I have to share today are wonderful in other seasons, they totally project summer. And we are far from done with this season. Pixi by Petra is always right on with their products and these are some extremely fun items.

Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel Stains

I admit I’m a fool for the 3 Sheer Cheek Gels that Pixi has created. I love cream blush but it’s not always convenient in hot or steamy weather. Instead using these Cheek Stains makes summer life a whole lot easier.

Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel Stains

There are 3 Cheek Gels available ($14) and I think you’re going to want them all.

Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel Stain in Natural

Natural is probably the easiest to wear, it’s a neutral that blends with ease making you look refreshed but not made up.

Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel Stain in Rosy

Rosy is a beautiful rosy stain. It’s my favorite, enough of a favorite that I even used one up completely. I apply this with my finger and at first it looks like it’s going to really stain both my finger and cheeks but it blends into a happy pink that looks like you’ve been out and about and feeling your best.

Flushed Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel Stain

Flushed is scary dark in the tube. It’s the one that I think most people will be surprised by since it looks sort of goth. But once applied and blended you’ll be surprised by the the ease of the plum stain.

Rosy Sheer Cheek Gel Stain

Things to know about these Sheer Cheek Gels: like all Pixi products they are cruelty free. These are also oil free, fragrance free and hypoallergenic. You can build these up if you want but I’d definitely start with just a little bit and blend before deciding how deep to go. They are travel friendly and need no tools. Plus you can use them as a stain on your lips. You are going to love them!

Pixi is available at Target stores and online as well as Pixi’s website. Thanks to Pixi for making sure summer is filled with summer beauty.  —  Marcia

Summer Makeup Essentials with Pixi

Pixi Beauty and Pixi Skintreats Summer Essentials

samples

Welcome to August aka the dog days of summer. While I love my dog I have to say that August days can be a drag. We aren’t as excited about summer as before and the heat can get to us. We still want to look great but we don’t necessarily want or need to spend a long time on looking great. PIXI by Petra has chosen 4 products that they think are perfect for summer and helping you get a carefree look that’s fuss free.

Pixi Skintreats Makeup Fixing Mist

Pixi’s Makeup Fixing Mist is going to be the number one product that you’ll need this summer and into the fall. It’s a makeup setting mist that not only helps your cosmetics last longer but it’s a refreshing pick me up at any time that you feel you are drooping.

Pixi Skintreats Makeup Fixing Mist

This rose water and green tea infused formula comforts, protects and balances skin for a fresh face. You can spray it on your face or do what I do – spray it onto a big fluffy brush to set makeup to make it last longer. It’s very hydrating. I’m not someone that likes fragrance in products and this does contain fragrance but with the fluffy brush I notice it a lot less than if I spray it on. It’s terrific for cooling you down no matter the situation.

Pixi Skintreats Nourishing Lip Polish

One of my favorite Pixi Skintreat items is Nourishing Lip Polish. This is an exfoliating scrub that contains apricot & grapefruit oils. I need this all year long. First I’m a lip biter so I need to smooth out my lips because of that and second I get horribly chapped lips in winter and need to exfoliate even before a lip balm.

Pixi Skintreats Nourishing Lip Polish

It’s so easy that a mirror isn’t needed. This is a great protector for your lips that has a nutrient-rich formula smoothes lips with shea butter & a blend of sweet almond, apricot, and evening primrose oils. The exfoliating tip will massage your lips so they’ll look plumper.

Pixi Skintreats Nourishing Lip Polish tip

Now onto Pixi Beauty and more products that are truly wonderful. Pixi Beauty has 5 MultiBalms that are 2-in-1 products for your cheeks and lips. As a dyed-in-the-wool cream blush lover these are right up my alley.

Pixi by Petra MultiBalm for Cheek & Lips

These make summer so easy since you can use it and look twice as nice. It’s a creamy product that’s not tacky, has no fragrance, and is infused with aloe vera, shea butter, and rose hip oil to protect.

Pixi by Petra MultiBalm for Cheek & Lips

There are 5 shades so there’s something for everyone. Pixi believes that Baby Petal is the easiest and most universal but I love them all.

Pixi by Petra MultiBalm for Cheek & Lips

Pixi MultiBalms: Bare Petal, Sheer Sculpt, Soft Strawberry, Watermelon Veil, Wild Rose (brighter light)

At just $12 these are wonderful to have in a variety of colors.

One last product to add to your summer essentials list: Pixi by Petra Quick Fix Powder. This makes apply powder so easy, you don’t need any tools since it’s all in the container.

Pixi by Petra Quick Fix Powder

This translucent powder can be a setting powder or can be used on its own to give your skin an airbrushed look. Most powders are messy but not Quick Fix. The container holds it in and you use the puff to get the powder to release. When done, just close it up and you’ll have no spillage.

Pixi by Petra Quick Fix Powder

4 summer essentials from Pixi are really only the beginning of all that Pixi has to offer. But they are certainly ones you won’t want to be without. Pixi is affordable beauty. Be sure you sign up for their emails since they always have specials to help you get more for your money. And the fun of shopping at Target is only enhanced when you check out Pixi there. Getting all glowy with Pixi Beauty skin care!

samples affiliate links

People ask me all the time for an affordable and effective skin care and color cosmetics line, and I am always recommending Pixi Beauty.  If you haven’t picked some up at Target yet, you really need to do so pronto – Pixi has tons of wonderful options.  More of an online shopper?  Their website is easy to navigate and they always have great specials.  I recently tried some Pixi skin care and today I have three treats to share with you.

Pixi Beauty skin care has terrific packaging that keeps the efficacy of the ingredients intact.  I love the aesthetic, and the skin care theory is that skin should have a GLOW.  Exfoliated, hydrated, and treated skin has a natural glow that is only enhanced with great cosmetics, so Pixi Beauty skin care gives a wonderful foundation for their color cosmetics.

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser

I read mixed reviews of the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser ($18) from other bloggers before trying this exfoliating cleanser.  Here’s what Pixi Beauty says about it:

• A deep pore cleansing mud, enriched with 5% glycolic and soothing botanicals
• Formulated to provide effective cleansing, yet is mild enough for all skin
• Complexion is cleansed and gently exfoliated to reveal radiant and healthy skin
• Deep pore cleansing leaving skin clean and glowing
• Gently exfoliates and revitalizes
• Mud deep cleanses
• Glycolic acid enhances complexion’s glow

I am a big believer in double cleansing and always use a separate makeup remover first – I find that this helps treatment-type cleansers like this one be effective and do the job they are meant to do.  So keep in mind I first use a makeup remover, and after that I find the Glow Mud Cleanser to be very gentle exfoliator that is almost deceptive in its subtlety. I hardly notice that it is scrubbing or exfoliating my skin.  But over time it does a great job of decongesting pores, removing dead skin, and removing excessive oiliness.  I think this is a great exfoliating cleanser, especially for those with sensitive skin that is normal to oily.

Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go

Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go

If you are a fan of the Glow Tonic, then you will definitely love the Pixi Glow Tonic To-Go ($18).  This is a jar of pads that are pre-soaked in the beloved Glow Tonic, the alcohol-free 5% glycolic acid that keeps skin clear and bright.  It’s a dream come true for anyone traveling or camping.  These are so much easier to take in the car for a weekend away, or even to the gym to wipe down your face and neck after a workout.

These pre-soaked pads tone, brighten, hydrate, and gently exfoliate.
• Skin looks clearer & feels smoother.
• The ultimate travel-friendly, gentle skin renewal
• Formulated with 5% Glycolic Acid
• Suited for all skin types

No need to rinse after using a pad, just follow up with a treatment serum.  And I just happen to have a great recommendation for you from Pixi Beauty, imagine that!!

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum

The Pixi Overnight Glow Serum ($24) is pretty close to perfect.  The packaging is fabulous – it keeps all the ingredients intact and ensures their integrity and efficacy.  The ingredients include 10% glycolic acid and arginine, which really will make your skin look amazing and glowy.  Your wrinkles and fine lines will start to fade and your skin tone will even out.  The exfoliation is soothed by cucumber and aloe vera, plus there lots of antioxiants like vitamins A, C, and E as well.  This is a great workhorse serum that your skin will absolutely love.

Exfoliate & soothe skin with this miracle serum that works while you sleep to reveal a brighter complexion
• Formulated with 10% glycolic acid & arginine
• Helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and fade sun spots over time
• Enriched with cucumber & aloe vera extracts to calm skin
• Vitamins A, C & E to nourish
• Suited on all skin types
• Not tested on animals
• Paraben free

The combination of these three products – first the Pixi Beauty Glow Mud Cleanser for initial cleansing and exfoliating, then the Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic To-Go Pads to sweep away any last traces of dirt, tone and smooth skin, and prepare it for treatment, and finally the fabulous Pixi Beauty Overnight Glow Serum to further exfoliate, diminish wrinkles, brighten and nourish skin – give you a dynamic trio that couldn’t result in anything but glowy, gorgeous skin.  I hope you head on over to Target soon to these skin care treats for yourself!  – Lisa

The Beauty Spotlight Team introduces Marcia’s Holy Grail repurchases

hearts-backgroundHave you ever heard of a Quartermaster? According to Wikipedia a Quartermaster is “generally a relatively senior soldier who supervises stores and distributes supplies and provisions”. And according to Merriam Webster  a Quartermaster is “a military officer responsible for providing quarters, rations, clothing, and other supplies”. Well consider me a Quartermaster when it comes to personal products in my home. Many years ago my sister and BIL lived in the same apartment building as I did. My BIL used to call me the Quartermaster since he knew if they needed something my apartment was the place to find it. I was well stocked because “what if” I ran out of necessities (in those days it was mostly toilet paper, kleenex, and red licorice).

I’m the Quartermaster of my home now too. I don’t like to run out of what I consider necessities (which still includes toilet paper, kleenex, and red licorice). I have quite a few items that I repurchase way before they get too low. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Marcia's Beauty Info Zone Repurchases

Starting with cosmetics these are products I already have backups of since I use them all the time.

Mally Poreless Face Defender

Mally Poreless Face Defender

Mally Beauty Poreless Defender rocks my world. I’m currently on my 3rd one and to be honest I have 2 more ready to go.

Mally Poreless Face Defender

Mally Poreless Face Defender

I received my first one in a QVC TSV and fell for it instantly. It is a clear product that mattifies skin and more important blurs pores. Since my first one I’ve tried several other blurring products but I always go back to Mally. I rarely wear powder anymore so I apply it on my cheeks prior to blush application.

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream and Too Faced Shadow Insurance

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream and Too Faced Shadow Insurance

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream and Too Faced Shadow Insurance are products I’m never without. After discovering IT Cosmetic’s Bye Bye Under Eye I knew I wanted to try something else from the brand. CC+ Cream was the answer and still is. I also have CC+ Illuminating Cream (press samples) but the original is HG material. What’s there left to say about Too Faced Shadow Insurance? I always have one of these at the ready. I like buying other eyeshadow primers since I think they are vital but TFSI is definitely my favorite.

Benefit Roller Ball, Pixi Endless Gel Eyebrow Pencil, Physician's Formula liquid eyeliner, Pixi Brow Powder Palette

Benefit Roller Ball, Pixi Endless Gel Eyebrow Pencil, Physician’s Formula liquid eyeliner, Pixi Brow Powder Palette

I love eye makeup so much that it’s a weakness of mine. I’ve discovered 4 products that I keep in stock even though they take a long time to use up.

PIXI Endless Gel Eyebrow Pencil isn’t the most loved product that Pixi makes but it’s a favorite of mine. I love it when I’m in a hurry especially since it’s a gel that fills in my brows quickly and lasts the day. The only negative is that I like to resharpen prior to every use so I go through this quickly.

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

PIXI Brow Powder Palette is another eyebrow love. I am not near done with my first but already bought a second. I was at Target and there it was so I swooped it up. I basically only use two shades and occasionally the others to personalize the shade I want. Plus I can use the other shades as eyeliner and brow highlight.

Pixi Beauty Brow Powder Palette

Pixi Beauty Brow Powder Palette

BENEFIT ROLLER BALL MASCARA totally surprised me. I kept reading about it but I don’t buy many products from Benefit. I finally wanted to see what the fuss was about so I ordered one. SOLD! I’ve gone through 2 tubes plus a deluxe sample size and have the one in the box ready for service. I like the way my lashes look with this – curled and lifted, no smudging, last all day, and a dark black. You can even find this in a travel size if you want to try it out.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Physician’s Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum is my favorite liquid eyeliner. It only is available in black and brown and it’s brown that’s my HG product. It’s so hard to find a wonderful brown liquid liner and I looked long and hard. I have others I really like (Stila, Youngblood) but if you made me stick to one it would be PF. It never skips, it’s long lasting, it’s reasonably priced, and it’s a beautiful brown shade. I’m assuming that the serum helps with longer lashes but I can’t quantify that.

Tweezerman Slant Tip Tweezers and Eyelash Comb

Tweezerman Slant Tip Tweezers and Eyelash Comb

Where would I be without Tweezerman? A hairy mess is where. I remember buying my first Tweezerman Slant Tip Tweezers and making everyone I taught with buy one too. I was amazed at how precise they were, all these years later I still feel the same way. I only pictured three but I have at least 5. I used to send them in for repair but I never liked how they worked after so now I just buy new ones. And keep spares on hand.

Cynthia Rowley for Tweezerman

Then there’s the Tweezerman Folding iLash Comb – how many do I have? 3 to be exact. Told you I stocked up on things! I tend to misplace items and this is a tool I use so often that I don’t want to be without it. I use it prior to curling my lashes when I notice they are winky and after to make sure that there are no clumps. You don’t know what your eyelashes are missing if you don’t have this tool.

And there’s more. Some you’ve seen before so I’ll be short with descriptions:

Brazilian Blowout Acai Anti-Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner are my go-to hair products. I get a Brazilian Blowout about once a year but I use these year round. I like to switch around hair products but these two and the treatments are what are always in my bathroom. They keep the frizzies down and my hair is healthy with these.

Bioderma Sensiblo H2) Micellar Water is something I wonder how I lived without. I was late to this trend but I’m right on top of it now. The 16.7 oz bottle seems like it’s more expensive than the drugstore ones but it’s twice the size and lasts forever.

Bioderma Sensiblo H20 Micelar Water

That’s about it though I forgot to photograph both Aveeno Fragrance Free Daily Radiance Moisturizing Lotion and Touche Eclat Radiant Touch. I always have backups of these two.
