The Beauty Spotlight Team introduces Marcia’s Holy Grail repurchases

hearts-backgroundHave you ever heard of a Quartermaster? According to Wikipedia a Quartermaster is “generally a relatively senior soldier who supervises stores and distributes supplies and provisions”. And according to Merriam Webster  a Quartermaster is “a military officer responsible for providing quarters, rations, clothing, and other supplies”. Well consider me a Quartermaster when it comes to personal products in my home. Many years ago my sister and BIL lived in the same apartment building as I did. My BIL used to call me the Quartermaster since he knew if they needed something my apartment was the place to find it. I was well stocked because “what if” I ran out of necessities (in those days it was mostly toilet paper, kleenex, and red licorice).

I’m the Quartermaster of my home now too. I don’t like to run out of what I consider necessities (which still includes toilet paper, kleenex, and red licorice). I have quite a few items that I repurchase way before they get too low. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Starting with cosmetics these are products I already have backups of since I use them all the time.

Mally Poreless Face Defender

Mally Poreless Face Defender

Mally Beauty Poreless Defender rocks my world. I’m currently on my 3rd one and to be honest I have 2 more ready to go.

Mally Poreless Face Defender

Mally Poreless Face Defender

I received my first one in a QVC TSV and fell for it instantly. It is a clear product that mattifies skin and more important blurs pores. Since my first one I’ve tried several other blurring products but I always go back to Mally. I rarely wear powder anymore so I apply it on my cheeks prior to blush application.

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream and Too Faced Shadow Insurance

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream and Too Faced Shadow Insurance

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream and Too Faced Shadow Insurance are products I’m never without. After discovering IT Cosmetic’s Bye Bye Under Eye I knew I wanted to try something else from the brand. CC+ Cream was the answer and still is. I also have CC+ Illuminating Cream (press samples) but the original is HG material. What’s there left to say about Too Faced Shadow Insurance? I always have one of these at the ready. I like buying other eyeshadow primers since I think they are vital but TFSI is definitely my favorite.

Benefit Roller Ball, Pixi Endless Gel Eyebrow Pencil, Physician's Formula liquid eyeliner, Pixi Brow Powder Palette

Benefit Roller Ball, Pixi Endless Gel Eyebrow Pencil, Physician’s Formula liquid eyeliner, Pixi Brow Powder Palette

I love eye makeup so much that it’s a weakness of mine. I’ve discovered 4 products that I keep in stock even though they take a long time to use up.

PIXI Endless Gel Eyebrow Pencil isn’t the most loved product that Pixi makes but it’s a favorite of mine. I love it when I’m in a hurry especially since it’s a gel that fills in my brows quickly and lasts the day. The only negative is that I like to resharpen prior to every use so I go through this quickly.

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

PIXI Brow Powder Palette is another eyebrow love. I am not near done with my first but already bought a second. I was at Target and there it was so I swooped it up. I basically only use two shades and occasionally the others to personalize the shade I want. Plus I can use the other shades as eyeliner and brow highlight.

Pixi Beauty Brow Powder Palette

BENEFIT ROLLER BALL MASCARA totally surprised me. I kept reading about it but I don’t buy many products from Benefit. I finally wanted to see what the fuss was about so I ordered one. SOLD! I’ve gone through 2 tubes plus a deluxe sample size and have the one in the box ready for service. I like the way my lashes look with this – curled and lifted, no smudging, last all day, and a dark black. You can even find this in a travel size if you want to try it out.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Physician’s Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum is my favorite liquid eyeliner. It only is available in black and brown and it’s brown that’s my HG product. It’s so hard to find a wonderful brown liquid liner and I looked long and hard. I have others I really like (Stila, Youngblood) but if you made me stick to one it would be PF. It never skips, it’s long lasting, it’s reasonably priced, and it’s a beautiful brown shade. I’m assuming that the serum helps with longer lashes but I can’t quantify that.

Tweezerman Slant Tip Tweezers and Eyelash Comb

Tweezerman Slant Tip Tweezers and Eyelash Comb

Where would I be without Tweezerman? A hairy mess is where. I remember buying my first Tweezerman Slant Tip Tweezers and making everyone I taught with buy one too. I was amazed at how precise they were, all these years later I still feel the same way. I only pictured three but I have at least 5. I used to send them in for repair but I never liked how they worked after so now I just buy new ones. And keep spares on hand.

Cynthia Rowley for Tweezerman

Cynthia Rowley for Tweezerman (discontinued)

Then there’s the Tweezerman Folding iLash Comb – how many do I have? 3 to be exact. Told you I stocked up on things! I tend to misplace items and this is a tool I use so often that I don’t want to be without it. I use it prior to curling my lashes when I notice they are winky and after to make sure that there are no clumps. You don’t know what your eyelashes are missing if you don’t have this tool.

And there’s more. Some you’ve seen before so I’ll be short with descriptions:

Brazilian Blowout Acai Anti-Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner are my go-to hair products. I get a Brazilian Blowout about once a year but I use these year round. I like to switch around hair products but these two and the treatments are what are always in my bathroom. They keep the frizzies down and my hair is healthy with these.

Bioderma Sensiblo H2) Micellar Water is something I wonder how I lived without. I was late to this trend but I’m right on top of it now. The 16.7 oz bottle seems like it’s more expensive than the drugstore ones but it’s twice the size and lasts forever.

Bioderma Sensiblo H20 Micelar Water

Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover is something I always mention. It beats the rest by a mile! It’s gentle, removes everything for me without stinging, and doesn’t leave a film behind.

Can’t forget my favorite DHC Silky Cotton Squares! Goldilocks would say “just right”.

J.R. WATKINS NATURAL LIQUID HAND SOAP is in all my bathrooms. I love Lemon and when I can find it I like Grapefruit. I’ve been buying the big refills lately.

That’s about it though I forgot to photograph both Aveeno Fragrance Free Daily Radiance Moisturizing Lotion and Touche Eclat Radiant Touch. I always have backups of these two.

So how do you think I’m doing as the Quartermaster? Would you hire me?  —  Marcia

Pixi does brows and lashes right with the Eye Accents Kit!

Pixi Eye Accents Kit

Pixi Beauty is such a great line…affordable, excellent products that I chose over their more expensive counterparts day after day. I was recently at a conference in Florida, and of course the topic of conversation turned to makeup. The line I immediately recommended for everyone was Pixi. My most recent obsession is the Eye Accents Kit ($16) they sent – I just can’t get enough.  Pixi Eye Accents KitThis great little duo was created in collaboration with the awesome blogger Apyn Ovard. The Eye Accent kit is all about defining the eye with a brow gel for beautiful brows and a fantastic mascara just for lower lashes.

Pixi Brow Tamer

First, the Brow Tamer is a clear gel that holds brows in place. You always want to brush brows UP and OUT – not sideways – to really open the eye area. The Pixi Brow Tamer is an excellent brow gel that holds brows in place without flaking or making them stiff or sticky. Awesome.Pixi Lower Lash MascaraPixi Lower Lash Mascara

Putting the Brow Tamer with the Lower Lash Mascara is a perfect partnership, like peanut butter and jelly. The Lower Lash Mascara is the absolute bomb. I rarely wear mascara on my lower lashes because they are really long, which makes pretty much every mascara smear on me. But the Lower Lash Mascara has a very cool thin wand so overdoing it isn’t an issue and the mascara really coats each lash, truly defining the eye. Other pluses? It’s water-resistant, stays put until you want to remove it, and removal is easy peasy. Ingredients include Vitamin E and panthenol.

Pixi Lower Lash Mascara and Brow Tamer

I love love love the Eye Accents Kit and I can’t recommend it highly enough. You can find Pixi online and at Target stores.  – Lisa

Pixi Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold

Pixi Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold

Pixi Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold brought out the first big smile upon unboxing this. Two silky blushes that apply like silk. Blush and highlight together cuts down on clutter. These shades are very subtle though you can build them up. My swatches are barely seen in the picture but the duo looks lovely when on my face. No shimmer is allowed even on the highlighter side. Instead it reflects light creating a subtle glow.

Pixi Glow Booster in Pink Pearl

What isn’t available anywhere except in this kit is the Glow Booster. This beautiful PinkPearl cream adds a delightful radiance that is particularly flattering on my cool toned skin. It can be applied under your makeup, mixed in with foundation, or applied just where you want to bring some attention. I l.o.v.e. that it’s not fragranced and I love the subtle iridescence of it. My favorite ways to use this is either right on my cheeks prior to apply blush or just above my cheekbones to bring just a touch of gleam.

Last is Pixi’s LipLift Max ($14 separately) in Sheer Rose. LipLift Max is available in three shades and I’m always using the clear Petal Ice. Now I have Sheer Rose to add color to my lips alone or over lipstick.

LipLift Max in Sheer Rose

LipLift Max in Sheer Rose

Volume-maximizing lip treatment with a cooling sensation and glossy finish. Peptides hydrate, firm and plump. Added aloe heals, jojoba moisturizes and chamomile soothes. Fresh mint flavor.

Sheer Rose has a brown undertone to it and works perfectly with the blush duo and glow booster.

I notice a little tingle when I first apply this but nothing that bothers me. The tingle brings me some plumping which I’m always up for!

Like all Pixi products these are cruelty free and reasonably priced. Pixi doesn’t bombard us with new items so it’s very exciting when they do bring out some of the beauty line. I’m always enticed by Pixi and love that I can order it online at their website, target.com or go to a Target store to find something special.  —  Marcia

Getting a glow with Pixi Glow-y Powder

Pixi Glowy PowderThe days have been dreary but my skin hasn’t!  Pixi has a wonderful powder highlighter created by the gorgeous lifestyle blogger, Aspyn Ovard, called Glow-y ($18). Pixi recently sent all three shades to test – two are all over highlighters, and one is specifically for cheeks. Here they are!Pixi Glowy Highlighter and Cheek PowderPixi Glowy Powder Cheek Powder

London Lustre:  This one is best for lighter skin tones. It’s a luminous soft champagne that gives a beautifully soft glow to cheeks, forehead, and chin. I also like to thin out my nose by using a darker contour shade on the sides, then smoothing this highlighter down the center of the bridge. Pixi London Lustre

Santorini Sunset:  Ahhhh….this one makes me long for a strappy little dress and long summer days! I can’t wait to brush this all over my arms and chest for a soft shimmery glow. The gold champagne is perfect for medium skin tones. Pixi Santorini Sunset

Rome Rose: Don’t be fooled by this one…it looks very bright, but it actually applies quite sheer then can be built up. It’s perfect for those days that you want a hint of glowy color, not full on blush. I know I will definitely use this all the time in the summer when I have a slightly deeper skin tone. It’s a really fabulous golden pink that should work for all skin tones.Pixi Rome Rose 2

The glow they give is actually quite soft – I swatched them pretty thick so you could fully see them. But actually they blend in beautifully and give a luminous, glow from within effect. The texture is like butter…so smooth and soft. It’s not the least bit powdery, so it actually seems to hydrate skin as it provides that pretty glow.

Overall, I really like these soft, beautiful, glowy powder highlighters. The pans are huge so I can’t imagine ever running out! You can find the Glow-y Powders and Pixi Beauty online and at Target stores.  – Lisa

Bestselling skin care by Pixi Beauty

Pixi BeautyI am very familiar with the color cosmetics from one of the most adorable cosmetics lines, Pixi Beauty. However, Marcia raves about the skin care so I decided to test four of Pixi’s best sellers. Do these cute Pixi Skintreats lives up to their adorable packaging?                                                                                                                             samples

Pixi Beauty Sleep Cream

Beauty Sleep Cream ($30) is a fast-absorbing, nutrient-rich nighttime essential helps to protect, nourish, and hydrate skin while you sleep. With 100% natural mango butter, plus oils of lavender, lemon & bergamot, this cream calms and balances skintone.

This is a very nice nighttime moisturizer, particularly for very dry skin. This winter has been brutal for me so far…the dry indoor heat makes my skin feel like it’s cracking. Whenever I slather this on at night, I wake up with soft, hydrated skin that feels terrific. I thought the lavender might bother me because I can be sensitive to the scent but I have no issues with it at all.

Glowtion Day DewGlowtion Day DewGlowtion Day Dew, $22  lightweight, radiance-boosting moisturizer that soothes while blurring imperfections & giving a lit-from-within glow.  Advanced illuminating skin-perfector nourishes & soothes while giving a boost to dull skin. Featherlight and hydrating, this moisturizer imparts a natural-looking radiance to skintone, making it look healthier & more even. Lavender oil calms, kaolin purifies, and mica brightens.

I am always on a quest for some ‘lit from within’ glow and Glowtion Day Dew is a great way to get there. In fact, I think this is my most favorite Pixi skin care product. It’s a lightweight daytime moisturizer that hydrates while also giving skin an instant radiance. You can see the illumination when heavily swatched – luckily, it’s not that dramatic with proper application, but it does give skin a freaking fantastic glow that perks up even the dullest of skin tones. This is a must have!

Pixi Glow Mist Glow Mist Gives a glowing, luminous & smooth complexion. Enriched with 13 natural oils plus propolis, aloe vera and fruit extracts.  Before makeup: hydrates, protects & nourishes.  After makeup: sets makeup, adds a dewy finish and protects skin.  Anytime: refreshes makeup, hydrates and adds glow.

Normally, my skin is too oily to fully appreciate the wonders of Glow Mist. I’ve actually been able to enjoy it lately with my crazy dry skin. I think it sprays on too wet to set makeup – the mist is heavy and will make makeup run unless you spray well away from your face. But for general refreshing and getting some glow, this is wonderful.

Pixi 24K Eye Dew

24K Eye Elixir ($22) An anti-fatigue peptide serum that massages away puffiness as it smooths and refreshes the eye area. This multitasker is infused with powerful age-defying ingredients to refresh eyes & prevent signs of fatigue. Collagen helps to repair the delicate eye area, peptides plump fine lines, and raspberry tones skin. Cooling rollerball applicator soothes & encourages circulation around the eye.

This is a wonderful eye treatment that has great ingredients. Where it really shines is for treating puffy eyes. Store this in the refrigerator to keep it chilly and it’s there for you as you pour your morning coffee…just glide the rollerball under your eyes and that puffiness goes away. It just feels so good, too!

Now I know that Pixi by Petra isn’t just for super cute cosmetics.  The Skintreats are cute too – and  effective. Great stuff at a great price!  – Lisa

Pixi’s Perfect for under the tree, in your stocking, and looking pretty

Pixi Beauty

Pixi Beauty

PIXI BEAUTY has something for everyone no matter what time of year it is. I was sent several of their holiday specials along with pretty Pixi products that work perfectly for a party look. The best news is that it’s not too late to order from Pixibeauty.com and there’s time to go to Target to find some Pixi. It’s a winning situation.

PALETTE ROSETTE will make you one popular person if you gift this. But make sure you buy one for yourself.

Pixi by Petra Palette Rosette

Pixi by Petra Palette Rosette

This face palette has it all. 11 shades for eyes and 3 for face. Every shade is beautiful and will help you look radiant.

Pixi Rosette Palette cheeks

Pixi Rosette Palette cheeks

For your cheeks you’ll find a subtle pink all over Glow that rivals the more expensive ones I bought from other brands. There’s a rosy cheek Blush that seems universal to me. Last is the enhancing Contour that can be used a bronzer or contour shade. But that’s not all …

Pixi Rosette Palette eyes

Pixi Rosette Palette eyes

For your eyes are 3 different highlight shades: peach, cream and white. I’ve used the peach on my lid too but Pixi also made sure that there were 2 lid shades, one for day and one for night. I don’t necessarily believe in rules so I give you permission to use these interchangeably. There are 3 eye contour shades in the brown family. There’s a dark brown matte and two satin shades that are tones of taupe (forget my very dark picture). Last they didn’t forget eyebrows since there are 3 shades for that. I love Pixi’s eyebrow powders and I like to mix shades so this is perfectamundo IMO.

Pixi by Petra Fairy Dust Favorites and Endless Silky Eye Pen

FAIRY DUST FAVORITES contains 5 of Pixi’s favorite loose pigment shades. I used to live for pigments but I had pretty much stopped until I discovered Pixi’s. These don’t get all over. I’m not a glittery mess with these. Of course I use an eyeshadow primer but I always have – these just love eyes. They are a satin finish.

Pixi Fairy Dust Favorites

This is a bargain at only $12 for these 5. I have Metallic Warmth and there’s also a Matte Classic.

The shades are Sheer Peach Glow, Sunkissed Amber, Ruby Sheen, True Bronze, and Black Pearl. Just picture Ruby Sheen in the center of your lips to add dimension! Ooh la la.

ENDLESS SILKY PENS have won beauty awards galore since they are the right price, the right colors, and they glide on your eyes like no other. pixi-endless-silky-eye-pen

Opal Overcoat is the shade sent for the holidays. On me it has a very gold cast but it’s not garish, it’s just brightening.

We can not forget lips! Pixi has an amazing formula in their Mattelustre lipsticks. They fit in with the trend of matte but with a lustre that makes the lipstick comfortable and not drying. There are 11 shades of Mattelustre Lipsticks but there should be no surprise that Classic Red is the featured shade. Classic Red is a cool blue red, a very merry shade.
