The scent of school spirit: Masik Collegiate fragrances

College!

College!

Got a graduation to attend and want a gift idea? Or how about the birthday of a friend who is very passionate about his alma mater? If you – or anyone you know – loves fragrances and those wonderful halcyon college days, then you need to check out Masik Collegiate Fragrances.

Creator Katie Masik traveled to different college campuses and interviewed students regarding fragrance preferences. Then she considered school colors, the style of the campus, flowers, trees, and location to create a unique scent for each school. Masik currently has scents for 19 different colleges, including Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Mississippi, Florida State, Penn State, and Texas A & M. As a high school counselor, I think it’s just the coolest fragrance line ever.

Masik Collegiate Fragrances

Masik Collegiate Fragrances

Masik sent two fragrances to test:  Florida State University for women and Penn State University Cologne for men. Both are 1.7 oz. bottles and run $39.50. The fragrances don’t smell of beer and herbs (if you know what I mean); these are wonderfully sophisticated yet youthful scents that really do make you think of carefree days and nights. The bottles are beautiful, all glass and class.

Middle notes are fresh and they include Lush Frangipani, Pink Peony, Heady Jasmine. The base notes are warm and just slightly naughty with Cashmere Woods, Golden Amber, and Cream of Coconut. This is a wonderful fragrance for a feminine girl who is always up for some fun.

Penn State

Penn State University – for him

Penn State University for men is a very masculine, stylish cologne. Top notes are fresh and include Italian bergamot, Juniper Berry, and Chilled Gimlet Accord. The middle note is cool, with a combination of blue cypress and cracked pepper vapor, plus Violet Leaf, Clary Sage, and French Lavender. The base notes end warm with Black Amber and Indonesian Patchouli. This is the scent of a man who knows exactly where he is going in life.

Yummy! Lush Vanillary Perfume Gift Set

Vanilla lovers rejoice!

vanilla-lovers

Many great scents have a vanilla base with good reason. Vanilla smells sweet, but not too sweet. It is a warm, comforting scent that can be playful or sophisticated. It also pairs well with so many other scents.  The Lush Vanillary scent is a fantastic option for vanilla lovers. It combines deep vanilla with soft caramel notes, a pairing that adds up to a wonderfully rich scent that isn’t too sweet or too foody. Lush sent the BIZ their Vanillary Perfume Gift Set ($44.95 ) to try, a beautiful bouquet of products to layer for maximum lasting power throughout the day.

After slathering on some Vanilla Dee-Lite Body Lotion, make it a vanilla party with a few well-placed spritzes of the Vanillary Perfume. This vanilla fragrance has major sex appeal with notes of vanilla absolute, sandalwood, caramel, jasmine and tonka bean. Spray this on pulse points, behind the knees, and the back of the neck for an aura of absolute deliciousness.

Vanillary Solid Perfume

Finally, stash the Solid Perfume in your purse or at your work desk for quick touch ups during the day. This version of the Vanillary fragrance has more pronounced caramel and toffee notes and wow does it smell amazing. The solid stick is awesome for travel and for overall convenience. Lush is going coconuts!

In my opinion, nothing smells better in summer than coconut. Plus coconut has amazing healing properties that can tackle skin and hair that’s had waaay too many kisses from the summer sun. Lush, the quintessential bath and body store, carries some of my favorite coconut scented/coconut infused products that keep summer fresh and fun, even at the end of the season. Here are four terrific picks Lush sent the BIZ that feature wonderful coconutty goodness.

Lush

Lush Jasmine and Henna Fluff-Eaze Hair Treatment

Lush

if only you could also smell this…

My Lush coconut adventure starts with extra virgin coconut oil to tackle my summer sun-wind-water damaged dry and frizzy hair. Jasmine and Henna Fluff-Eaze Hair Treatment ($22.95) is a special treat that leaves my locks soft, sleek, and shiny. The ingredients include organic jojoba, almond, Brazil nut and extra virgin coconut oil. This is definitely for people who LOVE scented hair products. The fantastic jasmine scent truly lasts, I can even smell it three days after a treatment. This conditioning treatment works for every type of hair from extremely coarse to baby fine. I put it on dry hair the night before I need to wash it, letting it soak in overnight. In the morning I wash it out for hair that smells as good as it looks.

Almond

Lush Almond & Coconut Smoothie

Almond

have a smoothie for your shower!

one word:  YUM!!

Next, I nourish my beach-weary skin with a tropical coconutty shower smoothie. The Almond & Coconut Shower Smoothie ($21.95) has almond and coconut oils to cleanse and moisturize and the jasmine, ylang ylang, and vanilla scent is to die for. This is not a typical lathering soap – it cleanses, but without foaminess. While no foam seems strange at first, it makes sense – after all, this is a shower smoothie, not a bar soap or gel. It leaves skin super moisturized and smelling like a soft summer evening. The texture is a thick, non-sticky marshmallow fluff, and it is an absolutely awesome shaving cream. After my shower I can even skip body lotion because my skin is so hydrated.

Coconut

Coconut Deodorant Powder

Coconut

some coconutty tips

Coconut

it’s a very versatile powder!

Summer in Michigan means hot and humid days, so I need something coconutty to keep me dry and cool. The answer is Lush’s Coconut Deodorant Powder ($7.95). It’s made from powdered coconut milk, as well as creamed and desiccated coconut and coconut oil. Excess moisture is absorbed by the tapioca, cornstarch, and natural magnesium carbonate. I love how it is a powder but in a lotion bottle – kind of freaky but very cool. I use it specifically for underarms but I also find it’s a terrific body powder that keeps me cool and dry all over. I sprinkle it into shoes to deodorize them and keep feet smelling fantastic. I put it in my gym bag to freshen it up, I’ve used it as a dry shampoo, and I always sprinkle it on my sheets when I change my bedding. I keep finding new ways to use this fantastic smelling coconut powder.

Perfume is the point!

Perfume is the point!

inside the Gorilla Furze perfume

Furze

Furze is a favorite coconut fragrance

To finish off my coconut body adventure, I need some sweet-smelling perfume. My favorite scent in the Gorilla Perfumes is, of course, the one with coconut notes – Furze (0.3 fl.oz is $14.95). At first I thought ‘Furze’ referred to the fur on the gorillas but apparently there is a flowering furze bush that smells just delightful. This has a vanilla base with fresh coconut plus some green notes as well.  Somehow it manages to simultaneously smell of vanilla, coconut, cookies, and the beach. It’s a soft and cozy scent that perfectly finishes my Lush coconut experience.

If you love coconut as much as I do, Lush is the place to find summery treats that will make you happy. It’s where you want to go to get your coconut on.  – Lisa

Alice & Peter debuted in 2012 with a line of five cupcake inspired fragrances. While the packaging is definitely fun and childlike, the perfumes are more gourmet and for adults who appreciate their ‘inner child’.  I tried some small sample sprays of each scent and found them all to be great options for sophisticated foodies.

Lavanila Vanilla Coconut Forever Fragrance Oil and Roller Ball

foreverfragranceoilvcLaVanila Vanilla Coconut gets my vote as the PERFECT summer fragrance. I wear it in the fall as I long for those hot summer days, I wear it in the winter when I want to transport myself to the beach, I wear it in spring in anticipation of a beautiful summer, and I wear it in the summer because it’s perfect! I waxed poetic about this scent when LaVanila first sent the BIZ products to try, you can read that review HERE.

LaVanila describes the fragrance as, “Paradise Found.  A rich, tropical blend of Young Coconut, exotic Tahitian Tiare Flower, and pure Madagascar vanilla bean steeped in the warmth of sweet almond oil.” I find it to be the perfect blend of coconut, gardenia, and vanilla.

Forever

LaVanila Vanilla Coconut Forever Fragrance Oil

Today I am going to tell about my two favorite ways of wearing this amazing scent. Forget sprays and spritzes…let’s go roller ball!!

Forever

Forever Fragrance Oil

The Forever Fragrance Oil ($25) version of this scent is a blend of essential oils and sweet almond oil. There isn’t any alcohol, so the fragrance truly lasts all day. It’s a terrific way to wear the Vanilla Coconut scent and it also comes in Vanilla Grapefruit and Pure Vanilla.

Roller

The Healthy Roller-Ball

The Healthy Roller-Ball ($19) is another option I adore for my beloved Vanilla Coconut scent. This version is all natural and organic, there are no chemicals inside.

Roller-Ball roller!

Roller-Ball roller!

I carry this in my purse at all times. It’s also a great option for travel. Plus, it comes in seven different fragrances:  Fresh Vanilla Lemon, Vanilla Lavender, Vanilla Coconut, Pure Vanilla, Vanilla Grapefruit, Vanilla Blackberry, and Vanilla Passion Fruit.

A dream come true for fragrance lovers: Krigler New York City Perfumes

I love fragrances.  I love the gorgeous packaging, and I love a variety of scents that I can have fun choosing from.  Krigler New York City Perfumes is a dream come true in both areas.  Krigler says, “Every expertly-crafted offering from Krigler is accompanied by a unique number, which makes these luxurious fragrances an even more personalized gift. Whether you select a scent based on that special someone’s birthday, anniversary or their lucky number, a Krigler fragrance is guaranteed to show them just how unique you think they are.

Krigler

Krigler New York City Perfumes

There are so many scents from which to choose!  Here are the names: Pleasure Gardenia 79, Subtle Orchid 10, Good Fir 11, Chateau Krigler 12, Lieber Gustav 14, Mediterranean Peach 15, English Promenade 19, Sparkling Diamond 22, Blue Escapade 24, Relaxing Verbena 29, Juicy Jasmine 30, America One 31, Dolce Tuberose 43, Manhattan Rose 44, Lovely Patchouli 55 Classic, Lovely Patchouli 55 Night, Established Cognac 66, Cosy Cedar Wood 72, Oud for Highness 75, Oud Azur 212, Extraordinaire Camelia 09, Jazzy Riviera 10, Splendid Gold 11, Ultra Chateau Krigler 12, and Topaze Imperiale 13.

I tried small vials of two scents, Pleasure Gardenia 79 and Sparkling Diamond 22Pleasure Gardenia 79 is a mix of jasmine, vanilla and mimosa, plus beautiful gardenia petals. This is a strong floral scent that is extremely feminine.  My mom is a big gardenia fan and she loves this.  Sparkling Diamond 22 is a mix of champagne with strawberry and coconut.  There is also a distinct musky note. I tried a small sample vial, but the full size bottle sounds gorgeous – there is a crystal inside the bottle, mimicking a sparkling diamond.

This line is so diverse, it’s really fun to shop around and look for interesting variations.  All 25 scents are billed as unisex, and they are meant to be layered for an awesome, mix and match signature scent.  Check out the Krigler New York Perfume website, and have fun!  – Lisa

‘Tis the season to be glossy with December Glossybox

The latest box ‘o goodies from Glossybox is here, and it’s called ‘Tis the season to be glossy’ in celebration of the month of December.  Inside are items chosen to leave you hydrated, fragranced, and adorned for the holidays.  Here’s what I found inside my Glossybox:

hydration for your hair

Arganics by NuMe Argan Oil:  a deluxe size of argan oil for your hair.  Argan oil is super nourishing for you hair, leaving it shiny and healthy looking.  This has a slight perfumey fragrance.

hydration for your face

Skin & Co Roma Truffle Serum:  a deluxe size serum for your face.  It brightens your skin with peptides, Tuber Melansoporum and hyaluronic acid.  It smells like coconuts.  I don’t know if I got a bum one, but mine was only about 1/4 full.

hydration for your hands

Epionce Restorative Hand Cream:  a full size item.

love the full size items!

I found this to be a creamy, thick lotion that does an excellent job of hydrating my hands and leaving them super soft.

Illamasqua Medium Pencil

Illamasqua Lip & Eye Medium Pencil:  a full size item.  It’s a crap shoot in terms of the color you get, and I didn’t get one that I am thrilled about although I’m sure it’s the right color for somebody!

Mine is Thrash, and it’s orange.  More specifically, warm burnt orange.  Bummer.

Thrash swatched (try saying that five times fast!)

Looking at all the colors available, this would be last on my list.  But that’s part of the beauty box experience, you never know what you are going to get.  Maybe I should try this as an eyeliner…

Perfumies in Cloud Nine

Perfumies Solid Perfume Stick:  I think this is pretty cool.  It’s a small solid perfume stick that is great for your purse and for traveling.  My scent is Cloud Nine, which has notes of cedar, apple, bluebells, jasmine, bamboo, white rose, cedarwood, amber, and musk.  That’s a lot of notes for a small perfume stick!  It smells pretty, it’s a grown-up but outdoorsy scent.

I think my favorite item in this box is the hand cream, which is truly lovely and from a line I have never tried.  I wish I had gotten a different color pencil from Illamasqua, but you win some, you lose some!

As a side note, the box that holds those Glossybox goodies is awesome for repurposing.  It makes a pretty package for a gift, just put a ribbon around it and you are all set!  – Lisa
