The organization of a disorganized beauty blogger

I am the most disorganized person around. It’s not something I happily admit but when The Beauty Spotlight Team decided to spotlight each of the blogger’s way of organizing, I had to own up to it. I’m a pack rat though, not a hoarder or at least I hope not a hoarder. Even though I knew this post was coming up for months I still procrastinated putting it together – the truth can hurt after all. But there are some ways I organize that I’m proud of and that’s what’s being shared.

The newest addition to my organization needs is the Acrylic Palette Organizer from byAlegory. I like this so much that I recently bought a second one to hold the overflow ($29.95).

byAlegory Acrylic Palette Organizer

byAlegory Acrylic Palette Organizer

This acylic organizer is the perfect size for palettes from Urban Decay (the Naked series), Lorac, Too Faced, and more. I have 4 large drawers in my bathroom but these were getting forgotten and taking up a lot of space. Now that they are out in the open I’m using them more and I’ve gained back some drawer space. The second one I have is filled with shorter palettes and often I can put two on a shelf. On that one I have my NYC Lovatics palette, some Tom Ford, Olivia Palermo Ciate, CoverGirl, the new smaller Viseart, Hourglass, Buxom, and BareMinerals. I can’t believe how much I like these Acrylic Palette Organizers and how they’ve transformed some of my space.

Acrylic organizers are my favorite. My large drawer of lip products is held together by other organizers from byAlegory including their Acrylic Lip Gloss storage that holds 24 lip products and their Acrylic Lipstick organizer that also holds 24 lipsticks. Over the years I’ve collected about 8 different ones to hold the majority of my lip products.

When you are looking to organize check out office supply stores. You can find so many things that translate well to cosmetic storage. I bought this set of drawers years and years ago at a store called Organized Living. It’s sort of back storage now but it was my main storage for a long time.

From Staples and Target I’ve bought pencil cups that hold my brushes as well as lip and eye pencils. It’s easier to flip through those than when they are lying in a drawer. For about $5 or less they are great to have. I used to be enamored with Stila’s cans too and have collected at least a dozen different designs.

Sadly the Stila cans and the great Zen Cosmetics organizer are not to be found because these are fabulous. I did find one affordable Quirky Zen one on ebay though. I have several of these and they are great for holding easy to lose items as well as items I use all the time like my liquid eyeliners, tweezers, and eyebrow pencils.

Oh my nail polish! I’m spilling over with nail polish. I would love to have one of the Ikea holders but I can’t persuade (aka force) anyone to go there and get me one, let alone put it together. I do have two professional wall holders that are hiding in a closet though. I need to rearrange these to make sure all the polishes I love best are easy to find. These hold about 60 bottles each but the ones made byAlegory hold up to 100 bottles and are reasonably priced. If I had more wall space, I’d have more of these.

I’ve saved the best for last. But please don’t hate me since I’ve searched the internet and haven’t found these for sale.

thin drawer file

I bought this at an office supply store that was an amazing place with out of the ordinary products. It came in a lot of colors but the red was on sale making it semi-affordable for me. While it was still about $250 on sale, it’s a treasure to me. It will go with me wherever I move. I labeled the 10 drawers. The bottom three drawers need to be reorganized since those are things I don’t use often. I probably could fill 5 of the 10 with eyeshadows if I didn’t have other organizers. It sits under my vanity with a Sterlite 4 drawer organizer to its right. After all these years (I’ve had it about 15 years) I still look for something like it when shopping.

This is my abbreviated organization for my disorganized self. I haven’t share either the great MelodySusie or the amazing Sherrieblossom ICEbox but you can see those and more about my file cabinet and storage cups in THIS post. Thanks for reading about my organization. I am still in need of help with all the skincare and haircare products in my life. Maybe the Beauty Spotlight Team will force me into that too.

What’s your organization like? Can you help me????? — Marcia

Do not travel without Tartan + Twine organizers and your SlimSonic toothbrush

If you had a dream vacation, where would you go? Hawaii? London? The Cayman Islands? Or would you go somewhere fun with your family to get away from the hustle and bustle of life?  What would you take with you on that trip – and by that you know I mean cosmetic and beauty products – the stuff that really counts?

I’m not a big traveler although I’ve certainly had some amazing vacations but when I go somewhere I need my cosmetics and my tools. A vacation wouldn’t be fun if I was empty handed. Since I don’t travel often it took me forever to use this terrific Tartan + Twine Brinton Alley Beauty Organizer which I now regret.

I’ve never enjoyed a beauty organizer as much as I do this one. It’s totally compact (only 8″ x 5″ x 2″) yet it holds a collection that a beauty junkie can appreciate. I was able to carry every cosmetic item I’d decided to take on my vacation and still had room for more. It has two pouches that are detachable, a makeup brush organizer, and a side zip pouch.

The material that the Beauty Organizer is made of is very sturdy so this is a bag that will last you for years. The quality of the construction is top notch. It’s made of coated cotton with uncoated cotton trim, the detachable pouches are made of uncoated cotton and clear PVC. While the Brinton Alley with its great red and black tartan plaid isn’t available because I am late reviewing it, they have a lot of other bags at Ulta and Ulta.com including this gorgeous new Waverly Vine Beauty Organizer that is spring personified.

The Slim Sonic is a battery operated toothbrush (included) and it cleans at 22,000 brushstrokes per minute.

Organization for the chronically disorganized: MelodySusie and Zen Cosmetics

I had to laugh when I found out that the Beauty Spotlight Team’s special post was on organization…as my blogging partner Marcia can tell you, I am not exactly the poster girl for having my stuff – or my life! – in order. However, there are two organizational systems that I swear by for organizing my makeup.

MelodySusie Large Capacity Cosmetic Organizer

First is my MelodySusie heavy-duty acrylic Cosmetics Organizer.  It has four drawers and two separate compartmentalized pieces. It’s sturdy, easy to clean, and has 24 different compartments. I can house all of my latest favorite cosmetic items and always have them right in front of me so I’m not digging through bags or larger drawers looking for something. Each drawer has a removable black mesh padding that keeps items in their place so they aren’t slipping and sliding around.

The main compartment holds my gel eyeliners, MAC Paint Pots, and blushes.

The lower drawer comes with a removable unit that has 10 compartments. I actually put this one on the top of the main unit and use it to hold lipsticks, highlighters, bronzers, eye products like mascara, brow gel, and my eyelash curler, plus various mixing mediums.

The third piece, which is the upper box that is typically placed on top of the main unit, also has ten compartments and is tall enough to hold brushes. I put this one on the side and use it for brushes, primer, concealer, foundations, and lip glosses.

I love my MelodySusie organizer because it’s super functional, sturdy, and it holds a ton of stuff in an organized manner that doesn’t come naturally to me. You can find it on Amazon.com.

Zen Cosmetics makeup organizer

My second favorite cosmetics organizer is my Zen Cosmetics Quirky Makeup Organizer. Marcia gifted me this, probably because she knows how disorganized I am!!  This cute little organizer is a total blessing for me.  It’s small but has a mighty big organizational punch.

The silicone base is removable, and it has small openings that hold onto scissors, tweezers, eyeliners, and brushes.  Just squeeze the item in and the Quirky organizer holds it straight up, ready for you to grab, use, then squeeze back in so easy. The spaces expand so they even hold my Doll10 BlendSmart Rotating Foundation Brush.

I put my brushes on one end, my eyeliner pencils in the middle, and my tools like scissors and tweezers on the other end. I can’t believe how much stuff this awesome organizer holds – I keep squeezing more in and can always seem to find room for just one more thing.

Beauty Organizers you need in your life

Top Ten Tuesday has chosen Beauty Organization as this week’s theme. I am the most unorganized person in the world but I love my beauty organizers. Most of these are items I own but a few are wishlist. The Beauty Spotlight Team will also be featuring Organization and that’s when I’ll be sharing my personal pictures. Until then take a look at all the wonderful ways you can organize your life – from $5 to $400!!  — Marcia
1454967731_51jhvqunkrl._sy300_Clear Organic 60 Bottle Nail Polish Organizer –  Of all the nail organizers I looked through this one is the one I think is the most useful (although I’d need about 5 of them). Besides having room for 60 bottles there are 2 drawers at the bottom to hold supples. ($35.50)
1454966686_icebox_wide_5659fc74e36a7_150x150SHERRIEBLOSSOM ICEBOX WIDE is absolutely incredible. This is what you want if you want the finest available. The quality of this is top notch. It’s sturdy, well crafted and holds an amazing amount of product. I’m thrilled to see this on my vanity daily. ($415) There are other styles that Sherrieblossom makes too. *
1454966532_41mf8i5-qul._sy300_ql70_ACRYLIC LIPSTICK HOLDER –  This holds 24 lipsticks and it’s only $10.32. I have a wide drawer in my bathroom which holds about 5 of these. There are other lipstick holders that are tiered but I prefer the flat ones to hold my collection.
1454966311_71m869h0x3l._sl256_MELODYSUSIE LARGE COSMETIC ORGANIZER –  This $49.99 acrylic cosmetic holder is a gem. Both Lisa and I have reviewed this and we just finished a giveaway for one. While this doesn’t hold as much as the Sherrieblossom, it holds a good amount and there’s a separate holder (seen on top) for lipsticks or naipolishes. I like that it holds my rectangular nail polishes easily and  I can even move it elsewhere.*  Reviews:  Marcia’s  –  Lisa’s
1454966142_51zhyf9gvtl._sy300_ql70_ZAHRA SPINNING LIPSTICK TOWER – This is a wishlist item. This “lipstick condominium” has 4 sides and fits 81 lipsticks. If you have counter space this would be a delight to have.  Spin and pick!  ($99)
1454966026_51rcrm1rcel._sx300_MESH VANITY COSMETIC ORGANIZER  – such a handy organizer especially if you have a drawer you can store it in. Large deep capacity holds many shapes and sizes of cosmetics like blushes, compacts, eye shadows, lipsticks, nail polishes. What I like most is the long compartment in the back that I can lay down two sided brushes. Make sure you choose the $12.98 organizer since there’s an identical one that’s almost twice the price.
1454965710_51yyqvuk_2b1l._sy300_STEEL MESH PENCIL CUP  – I have at least 8 of these cups in both silver and black that I’ve bought over the years. They are perfect for holding anything tall. I have one for lip pencils, one for eye pencils, others for lip crayons or eye crayons. I keep my brushes in them too. And the best thing is that they are only $5.25.
1454965592_41ejfj-evnl._sy300_SEVILLE 10 DRAWER ORGANIZER –  I have two of these that I keep in a separate room to hold overload. Now not everyone has overload like I do but I also use one for other things like stationary and important papers. I bought mine at Costco and spent more than the current price of $35.16. It’s also made in white and black if you want something more subtle.
1454965117_s0634525_sc7__splssku_?1454965117BLUE HILLS STUDIO 3 DRAWER CART can be found at office supply stores like Staples. This is perfect for hair product IMO. You can fit all your tools in one drawer, use another for your styling gels, goos and sprays and still have one more for skincare. This sturdy cart ($45.59) will hold up for a long time.
Now that you’ve seen some favorites of mine, check out the other lovelies and decide what organization you can’t live without. — Marcia

FECA Space Magic hair dryer holders

FECA Space Magic hair dryer holders

When it comes to space I need a little magic in my life. I’m overrun with items so where do I put things?  SPACE MAGIC by FECA helps that problem with their space saving devices. I was sent two different sizes that are perfect for us beauty queens but they make other items that would help us with other space issues.

With the two FECA SPACE MAGIC holders I have I don’t have to drill or make a permanent installation. I can use these where I want without disturbing anything in the house. And it makes use of spaces that otherwise wouldn’t be considered.

FECA Compact Hair Dryer and Brush Holder

FECA Compact Hair Dryer and Brush Holder

This Compact Hair Dryer and Brush Holder is my favorite of the two I have. It’s lightweight, shiny and holds either of my two hair dryers as well as brushes. This one is made of chrome plastic and is only $14.49.  The dimensions are 4.75″ x 4.625″ x 2.625″ h. It holds up to 4 pounds.

It’s so easy to install too. I was hesitant at first because I’m a world class klutz but there’s nothing to it. It takes seconds, not minutes. The suction cup just needs a little pressure as you hold the handle down. It’s also removable so you don’t have to worry about where you place it because you can redo it in seconds too.

Feca Space Magic Hair Dryer Holder

This Space Magic Hair Dryer holder ($23.99) is actually sturdier because it’s made of stainless steel and holds up to 13 pounds. It’s taller, thinner with dimensions overall of 4.125″ x 4″ x 10.875″ h. It can hold more than just a hair dryer since you can put in liter bottles of shampoo etc in it. You can put this in your shower without a problem since it won’t rust. And it’s just as easy to apply with the great STRONG suction cup. My husband is always complaining about my bottles and jars taking over the shower so I could put this on an out of the way space in my shower.

Getting organized with MelodySusie Cosmetics Organizer!

MelodySusie Large Capacity Cosmetic Organizer
I am NOT the most organized person. Not even close. But boy, does it feel good when I do have things organized!! As those of you who collect cosmetics know, makeup organization is not exactly easy. We need shallow drawers to easily find things and we need lots of them. I’ve tried bigger makeup cases like the one from Bobbi Brown which is a disaster because everything just gets buried. I’ve tried the lucite organizers which have lots of drawers, but they are so flimsy and they look cheap. I’ve even tried organizer bags and cases that were meant for scrapbooking. Once again, stuff just gets lost and buried in them.
MelodySusie Cosmetics Organizer

MelodySusie Cosmetics Organizer

Recently, MelodySusie offered to send their large capacity acrylic Cosmetic Organizer ($47.99 online, $49.99 on Amazon) for review, and I was more than happy to try it…after all, what I have now is far less than perfect.

MelodySusie Cosmetic Organizer
MelodySusie Large Cosmetics Organizer
MelodySusie’s heavy-duty acrylic Cosmetic Organizer comes with four drawers and two separate compartmentalized pieces. This is some sturdy, substantial organization, although the acrylic is see-through so it still looks rather dainty, plus it is easy to find everything stored in it. Cleaning this super durable organizer is a snap. There are 24 different compartments all together and while I use mine for cosmetics, it’s also perfect for jewelry or as a nail polish/nail product station.
The main compartment has four drawers: two small drawers and two larger drawers. The top has a lip for the option of putting one of the two other pieces on top. Each drawer has a removable black mesh padding that keeps items in their place so they aren’t slipping and sliding around. Here is what I put in mine:
MelodySusie Acrylic Cosmetic Organizer

MelodySusie Acrylic Cosmetic Organizer

The top two smaller drawers are filled with my gel eyeliners, mostly from Makeup Geek, Bobbi Brown, Vincent Longo, and Tarte. The drawers are the perfect size for gel liner jars. One large drawer has all 13 of my MAC Paint Pots, which I use almost every day as either a base or else as eyeshadow. I could fit 5 more in there – a great excuse to expand my collection! It is so nice to have them all lined up and easy to find. The next large drawer holds my blushes.  I have 2 Inglot Cream Blushes, 3 Makeup Geek Powder Blushes, and 15 Nars Powder Blushes in this drawer…and there is definitely room for more!
MelodySusie Acrylic Cosmetic Organizer 10 compartment piece

The lower drawer comes with a removable unit that has 10 compartments. I actually put this one on the top of the main unit and use it to hold lipsticks, highlighters, bronzers, eye products like mascara, brow gel, and my eyelash curler, plus various mixing mediums.
MelodySusie Cosmetics Organizer upper box

MelodySusie Cosmetics Organizer upper box

The third piece, which is the upper box that is typically placed on top of the main unit, also has ten compartments and is tall enough to hold brushes. I put this one on the side and use it for brushes, primer, concealer, foundations, and lip glosses.

I am truly thrilled with the look of this organizer, the functionality, the quality, and the quantity of storage!  The compartments are logical and they work with all sorts of types of cosmetics. The black mesh padding is an excellent touch, too. The roominess is astonishing and even with using the lower drawer separate I still have room for my huge mirror, a steel palate, and a drink coaster on my very modest makeup vanity.

The MelodySusie Large Capacity Cosmetics Organizer is a huge, huge winner and I could not be more thrilled with it. Being organized feels wonderful! If you are in need of a better system, this is a fantastic option.  – Lisa
