Making waves with Modern Merbabe the Boxycharm July box

Boxycharm for July 2016

Boxycharm for July 2016

I’m sure you’ve heard of Boxycharm. It’s become my favorite subscription box and the July box shows me why this has made me so happy. Let me start by telling you that a subscription is $21 a month and you’ll receive only full size items. It can be 4 or 5 each month. This month the box has a value of $120. Not a bad investment at all.

As with all subscriptions you may not have bought the items to begin with so the value of $120 may be high but not worth it to you. For me this month’s Boxycharm is a winner and one I’m very excited about.

OFRA PROFESSIONAL MAGNETIC PALETTE AND 6 EYESHADOW PANS

OFRA Magnetic Palette and eyeshadows

OFRA Magnetic Palette and eyeshadows

How could I not be excited about this? I’ve been thinking of buying a new Z palette since mine are almost filled and I’d like to organize better. Not only do I not have to do that but I got 6 gorgeous shadows that would retail for $12 each on their own. These don’t have names imprinted on them and I can’t really tell from the OFRA website but there are 3 beautiful shimmer shadows and 3 mattes. All 6 are very workable shades with the shimmers and the light yellow shade (could be Banana Highlighter Powder) my favorites. They’ve valued this set at $59 but I think they undervalued it since the shadows alone would be $60.

MALLY BEAUTY is included this month too and I got lucky. Some boxes received an Ice Blue Mally Waterproof Eyeliner pencil ($18) while others got one of two Mally Rounded Blender Brushes ($15). I love brushes so having this green metallic brush is a little piece of heaven.

The brush has longer hairs than my other blending brushes so it’s a great change of pace for me. Into my brush cups this went instantly.

To add to the thrill of this box there’s a NOYAH LIP GLOSS in Malbec ($16), a wine berry shade. I remember when Noyah only had lip balms and I lovingly reviewed them. It’s great to see how far they’ve come. This is a natural lip gloss made without made without sulfates, parabens or phtalates. The packaging is adorable with an earth friendly bamboo top.

To top off the beauty in this sweet box is PYT HAIR Oil Treatment ($30). While I’ve only used it once I was amazed at the shine I suddenly had from the treatment. It’s made with Argan Oil which I already know is great for my skin or hair. It’s safe for color treated hair and it helps leave hair frizz free.

Ingredients: Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Argania spinosa kernel oil, Fragrance (Lilial, D-Limonone, Hydroxycitronellal, Lyral, Geraniol, Citronellol, Coumarin), Triticum vulgare (Wheat) germ oil, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) seed oil, Panthenol.

I’m thrilled to learn about this new brand and use it in my routine.

Even though I don’t have a clue why this month’s Boxycharm is called Modern Merbaby (other than they do say “Let’s Make Waves”) I still think it’s one of the best I’ve received from my subscription. Now I can’t wait for another month to pass so I can get my next one. Are you a subscription box fan? — Marcia

I’m feeling fab with my August Wantable cosmetics

Wantable August 2015 cosmetics

Wantable August 2015 cosmetics

Welcome to my August cosmetic box from Wantable. This is the subscription that I’ve kept up since I first heard about them. I do love the surprises I get from a subscription box and Wantable remains in my heart. This month’s box is worth $74.15 and I paid $36 for it. I had $4 in credits so I didn’t have to pay the full $40 fee. That means I got double my money’s worth and I’m quite happy with the variety I received this month.

OFRA LIPSTICK IN AMETHYST (retail $13.15) is the item I was most excited to see. I’ve gotten a few scattered OFRA products in boxes but nothing yet that’s been on my wishlist, until now!! Not only have I wanted to try their lipsticks but it’s a shade in my comfort zone. Amethyst is a pinky lavender that’s midtone, it’s not too light and it’s not too dark. Nor does it turn on me. Ofra lipstick is quite moisturizing and it’s enriched with anti-oxifants, vitamin E and natural sunscreens. It does have a fragrance, that reminds me of grape popsicles, but luckily it’s pleasant to me. Good job Wantable. You pleased me right off the bat.

MODEL CO BLUSH in COSMOPOLITAN (retail $22) isn’t the blush I’d pick to go with the Amethyst lipstick but I’ll still use it often. It’s a warm pink that will work well with most of the lips and eyes I choose to wear. It’s got a satiny finish and I love that there’s no glitter in it. My pores aren’t taking well to shimmer lately.

MOSI MEI POLISH in PASSIONATE (retail $15) is a stunning nail polish that I’ll love in the fall. It’s a metallic violet that has incredible shine. I’m a huge fan of metallic polishes and this is a shade I don’t have. I love the square bottle and I’m very happy to have this shade. The Mosi Mei polishes are 5 free, cruelty free and vegan. If this wears well I see a lot of shades on their website that I’d be interested in.

CATTIVA DIVONO LASH MASCARA (retail $24) is my only complaint this month. I’m not complaining about the mascara though. I’m complaining that I’ve been sent 3 mascaras in the last 3 months. Considering a mascara is good for 3 months did I really need another one so soon? If they sent this in November I’d be pleased as punch but I’m not using it until November because I have their last two mascaras open along with others. What I can tell you is that this has beautiful packaging with the top being crystal studded. It’s a paraben free mascara. I just can’t explain how it works yet. There’s a slight chance I’ll send it back to get the $12.95 credited to my account. I just need to decide.

Overall I’m very happy with the WANTABLE subscription box for August because it’s given me products I’ve never tried and in shades that work beautifully for me. Nail polish is on my LOVE list in my profile and the other 3 products are all in my like list so they were on track. I understand that there’s now an option to receive skincare as part of your box but I won’t add that to my profile since I’m overloaded with skincare. But it’s nice that it’s an option and you can decide for yourself.

What do you think of this box? Are any of these products you’d be thrilled to suddenly own? — Marcia

Top Ten Eyebrow Favorites

Top Ten Tuesday is back and this time we’re emphasizing eyebrows as well we should. Eyebrows are the frame for the look on your eyes and I’ve realized that this is a category I’ve previously ignored. When we started Beauty Info Zone I never touched my brows except with a tweezer. I’ve got years worth of pictures that I have no eyebrow makeup on and years with pretty crappy makeup on them. I’ve recently become obsessed with learning how to do my eyebrows right. One of these days I’ll get it too!

I had received a preview of this during testing through a program from PC that sends people (not just bloggers) new products to test and review. Mine looks different but it works the same. It has two shades to use alone or together. I love the cream finish and think it fills in my brows better than any product I own.
1422210616_natural-brow-duo-group-withswatch-06feb14-webPIXI BEAUTY NATURAL BROW DUO ($16) – I just did a whole article on this duo because it’s great for me for everyday. It comes in three shades (natural brown, brunette and soft black). Natural Brown is an easy to wear color with cool undertones. I love the matching gel side and plan to buy it in the Brunette too.
1422210878__6054294SMASHBOX BROW TECH TO GO ($28) – My first ever brow product was the original Smashbox Brow Tech. A friend taught me about QVC and raved about it. I had it in several shades and used it whenever I felt I should do something. They’ve changed it plus added this Brow Tech To Go. It’s one product that I totally used up and I never use anything up. It wasn’t until I was almost done that I realized there was a gel on the opposite end. I felt like a fool about that but I still have it and use it. This is easier to use than the original but it can become hard so I usually had to warm it up first.
1422211220_browpoweruniversalIT COSMETICS BROW POWER UNIVERSAL PENCIL – I have nothing but love for this pencil. The color is a neutral to cool brown and there’s a spoolie at the opposite end to make sure your eyebrows are nicely formed. The most wonderful thing about this is that for every Brow Power Universal Pencil sold ($24) one is donated to Look Good, Feel Better to help women with cancer regain their self esteem. What a wonderful charity and I love IT Cosmetics for doing this.
1422211278_el_universalbrowOFRA COSMETICS UNIVERSAL EYEBROW PENCIL ($13) is one I received in two of my subscriptions. I gave away the first but luckily I have the second. This is an ultra smooth soft pencil that is very easy to apply. It’s a neutral brown that was created to work for all skin and hair tones but I think it’s probably best for brunettes.
1422210524_818MILANI COSMETICS BROW TINT PEN ($6.49) is one I recently bought. I’ve only been able to find it in Natural Taupe so far. I like this a lot because the tip is fine and it’s great to draw in hairs to make your brows look natural. I just ordered it in Dark Brown (the only other shade available) because I’m too impatient to drive around town trying to find it. Taupe is a warm brown that is almost a universal shade.
1422211714_60329PIXI BEAUTY LASH AND BROW BRUSH ($8) is a spoolie that helps with brushing your brows before you apply anything on them. Brushing them up and making them even is an excellent and easy way to prepare your brows for makeup. It’s also great to use after your brows are done to make sure they look perfect. In addition you can use this on your eyelashes to brush out those clumps.
1422211140_59270MAKE UP FOR EVER ANGLED EYEBROW BRUSH #270 ($21) is the best brush I’ve ever used on eyebrows. In spite of not doing my brows much prior to the last year, I still have several brow brushes. When I received this brush I realized that it blew my others out of the water. This is a very firm brush that can be used with powders, gels, creams and pencils. I highly recommend this brush.
1422210938__45048SMASHBOX ANGLE BROW BRUSH is the other brow brush that I reach for. It’s hard to find but it used to be part of the Brow Tech set so I have two of them. I found them on cutandblow.com for a reduced price. I’m very glad I have these now that I’m back to brows.
1422211594__6622425TWEEZERMAN SLANTED TWEEZERS – I must have a minimum of 6 of these in my house. I feel lost without my tweezers and Tweezerman are the ones I’ve trusted and used the longest. The original slanted full size tweezer is the best.
1422211440_265x265xclear_brow_gel_.jpg.pagespeed.ic.rl7gjw77v4ANASTASIA COLORLESS BROW GEL ($22) is something you should have in your arsenal of tools. I like MAC Cosmetics clear brow gel too. I just have a mini Anastasia one from a kit right now and it comes in handy to tame the bushiness.
I’ve read two Brow Tutorials lately that are excellent for shaping your eyebrows and want to share them with you. The first is from INTO THE PALETTE and the second from PHYRRA. Both are great guides that I recommend. With these tutorials and the right tools you are on the road to perfection.
