Colored contact lenses get an upgrade: 1-Day Acuvue Define and Neutrogena Nourishing Longwear Eye Shadow + Primer Palettes

Acuvue Define Natural Shimmer

Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-in Primer PalettesMany, many years ago I worked as an optical assistant. I remember that the one activity even more exciting than trying on all the frames was trying on the colored contacts. I have hazel eyes that are a little more brown than green, and every colored contact was a disappointment…except for the brown ones. Those made my so-so eye color a whole lot more special, although colored contacts were always rather uncomfortable. Recently I was sent something very exciting and infinitely better than colored contacts – the new 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE® Brand Contact Lenses, as well as several NEUTROGENA Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-in Primer Palettes ($9.49) to go with my enhanced eyes.

There are three different types of 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE® Brand Contact Lenses available and they don’t change your eye color; instead, they enhance the natural beauty you already have. This is done through LACREON® Technology, which enhances eyes in two ways:

1.  clearly defining the limbal ring, which is the outline around the iris

2.  iris-inspired designs with light-effect patterns that add depth and dimension to existing eye color

Acuvue Natural Shimmer

Acuvue Natural Shimmer Contact Lens

These aren’t colored contacts because they don’t change the color of the iris. Colored contact lenses don’t really look natural since they are opaque. The 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE® Brand Contact Lenses are a complement to whatever your natural eye color might be. NATURAL SPARKLE® adds brightness, NATURAL SHIMMER® adds even more brightness and depth, and NATURAL SHINE® has an even more dramatic effect.

Acuvue Define Shimmer Contact Lenses

The reason colored contacts are so uncomfortable is that the color is actually printed onto the lens, which irritates the eye and the eyelid. 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE® lenses are very comfortable thanks to their BEAUTY WRAPPED IN COMFORT® Technology. This technology actually encloses the pattern within the lens so the surface is smooth and wettable. The DEFINE lenses come in a box of 30 or 90 and are disposable lenses so you use a fresh pair every day.

Here is a comparison pic of my eyes with and without the Shimmer lens:

With and without the Acuvue Define Shimmer lens

I absolutely love these lenses. The effect is subtle and natural looking, yet it definitely makes a difference. I couldn’t be happier with my newly defined eyes…I can’t wait to try the other two types of lenses!

Acuvue Define Natural Shimmer lenses and Neutrogena Cool Plum Eyeshadow Palette

Celebrity makeup artist Amy Oresman created several eye looks coordinating the different 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE® Brand Contact Lenses with NEUTROGENA Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-in Primer Palettes and I tried the day-to-night look with the Cool Plum Palette.

Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-in Primer in Cool Plum

Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-in Primer in Cool Plum

The Neutrogena powder eyeshadows are combined with primer so they last all day without creasing. The texture is on the powdery side, but the pigmentation is nice and they really do have great lasting power. The colors are very pretty and, as Amy says, grey and plum are wonderful shades to enhance the eye while still being appropriate for daytime. My only issue is the sparkle travels a bit, so I find myself having to do a little clean up throughout the day. Otherwise this is a very nice and wonderfully affordable eyeshadow palette.

Between the Shimmer Lenses and the Neutrogena Cool Plum palette, I think the effect is terrific and I am so happy with the end result!  If you wear contacts, I urge you to give these a whirl.  Even if you don’t, Acuvue has non-prescription lenses available.  Who couldn’t use a little more sparkle in their life?  – Lisa

1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE® are available in plano (non-correction) and vision correction ranges from +1.00 to -9.00 with a base curve of 8.5 and diameter 14.2mm. Both plano and vision correction versions of 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE® are prescription contact lenses, and require an eye exam and contact lens evaluation/ fitting from a licensed eye care professional.

Neutrogena Naturals #WipeForWater

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes

sent by #Influenster

Even though it’s almost the end of April aka Earth Month, any time is the perfect time to remember to conserve water. Neutrogena has a campaign going on to do exactly that. It’s called #WipeForWater and it’s a wonderful reminder about how important water is and things we can do about saving water.

If you live in California you are especially concerned about the drought and the conservation efforts in the state. Water use is restricted there. In my area, the water rates keep soaring and will continue to do so. What used to be an inexpensive utility bill for my household is now a major expense for us. Therefore I do welcome the  #WipeForWater effort.

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes are among my favorites for cleansing wipes. I use cleansing wipes a lot. I use them for makeup removal, swatch removal and often just to wash my hands in the bathroom. According to Neutrogena we can use up to 5 gallons of water just to wash our faces. Even if you don’t feel right after using a wipe like this Neutrogena Naturals, you can do some pre-cleansing with the wipe. When you go to wash up it will take less time and you can save water doing so.

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes are soft and gentle sheets that are large enough to remove all the makeup on your face. Even though they are scented it’s a very subtle fragrance that doesn’t bother my sensitive nose. They are made of natural ingredients and the fibers that make up the cloth are 100% renewable fibers.

Take the pledge for #WipeForWater and they’ll donate $1 for everyone who takes it to The Nature Conservancy to support water conservation. It’s a minute of your time and you’ll be helping the earth in doing so. Not only are these earth friendly and use renewable fibers but Neutrogena will also contribute 10% of the retail purchase price on Neutrogena® Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes sold in the United States from April 1-June 30, 2015, with a combined maximum contribution of $50,000 on the retail sales and pledges.

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes are easy to find at most drugstores, mass marketers and online. They will be great on your face with their gentle removal and a way to help reduce your water footprint.

8 beauty items you need to toss now! Spring Clean Refresh with Meijer Beauty

*sponsored post*

Spring CleaningTime to toss! I am gearing up for some spring cleaning and first on my list is my vanity. Clearing out feels so good…I love it when things are organized and sparkling clean. Besides, extra space means room for new things!
Does your cosmetics stash look like this??

Does your cosmetics stash look like this??

Spring cleaning isn’t just for closets and pantries – it is so important to also tackle that beauty stash. Time goes by fast and before your know it you have beauty items that are years old. Anything you use with your hands or put on your face eventually gathers bacteria and can cause breakouts and other skin issues. Items with active ingredients become inactive over time, becoming an exercise in futility. Besides, it’s fun to go through and edit your cosmetics and skin care, plus what a great opportunity to go shopping to replenish!
If you are like me, the memory fades, so when you purchase a new item mark the date on the bottom of the jar with a black sharpie. It makes spring cleaning much easier. Also, most skin care items have an open jar symbol followed by a number and the letter ‘M’.  This tells you how many months you can use the product after opening it – so 6M means six months after opening, 9M means nine months after opening, etcetera. Don’t forget, when using products packaged in jars NEVER stick your fingers in the jar. Use a small cosmetics spatula to spoon out the product so you aren’t introducing bacteria into the jar.
Here are the top 8 items that you need to toss, along with some suggestions for replacements. Meijer just announced an exciting lineup of new beauty items, so it’s a great place to shop to renew that beauty routine and you can find all of my suggestions there.
L'Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Serum

L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Serum

1.  Serum:  I am sure this is no surprise. Typically serum is in air tight packaging, which keeps ingredient integrity, but once you start using a serum it’s only good for about six months. Toss it even earlier if the texture changes or it starts to smell weird. If you need to replenish, check out L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler.  It is wonderfully affordable and has hyaluronic acid to plump skin and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder Foundation

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder Foundation

2.  Foundation:  obviously, liquid foundation is a bacteria collector, especially jar-based foundation that is exposed to the air. But did you know that powder foundation also goes bad? Think about it…you dip your brush into the foundation, the brush goes on your skin, then you dip that brush back onto the foundation…all those skin oils are transferred into the powder, which means after a while it becomes pretty dirty. Toss that old stuff and try something new, like L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder Foundation.  This is opaque enough to use as foundation, and it also works great as a pressed powder to cancel out a shiny nose.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara and Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara and Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom

3.  Mascara:  this is a must-toss every season! After a while, mascara dries out and loses its lash lengthening and thickening power. Plus, any product that isn’t a solid is in danger of collecting bacteria. Glam out with your mascara and then replace it as soon as it shows any sign of dryness or starts to smell ‘off’, typically at about three months. By the way, resist ‘pumping’ your mascara – it makes it dry out even more quickly, and always toss your mascaras if you have an eye infection. Two mascaras to try for long, lush lashes are Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara and Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom.

L'Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Moisturizer

L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Moisturizer

4.  Moisturizer:  jar moisturizer lasts at the most 6 months. Go through all those open jars you know you have sitting on your shelves and toss anything you opened last fall. Not only do they become a potential hazard for your skin because of bacteria, but the active ingredients stop working so why bother? Try something new, like L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Moisturizer to smooth out those lines and wrinkles.

Degree Dryspray Deodorant

Degree Dry Spray Deodorant

5.  Deodorant:  yes, deodorant does have a shelf life! While most have expiration dates, a good rule of thumb is two years. It’s a great idea to stock up on deodorant when it is on sale, but be sure to write your purchase date on the extras if they don’t have an expiration date. A great replacement is Degree Dry Spray. It sprays on dry and protects for up to 48 hours, so no worries on those hectic late mornings!

Neutrogena Cooldry Sport Sunscreen

Neutrogena Cooldry Sport Sunscreen

6.  Sunscreen:  sunscreen loses its effectiveness over time and you sure don’t want to get a sunburn thanks to an outdated bottle. Most have an expiration date, but the longest any sunscreen will last is three years. My absolute favorite and a great one for restocking is Neutrogena Cooldry Sport.  I can even get my kids to put this on without a fight.

Cover Girl Lip Lava

Cover Girl Lip Lava

7.  Lip gloss:  a liquid product you apply to your lips?  Of course lip gloss is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to beauty items that go bad and need to be replaced regularly. Replace your old lip glosses with Cover Girl Lip Lava. I adore this lip gloss!  My favorite shade is Lava-Rider. I put it on then blot and I have a beautiful shimmery stain that lasts and lasts.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser

8.  Face cleanser:  these only last a year, so often a big bottle will expire before it’s gone. If your face cleanser isn’t working well, the consequences will definitely be evident to everyone! A great option for replacing your old stuff is Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser. White tea and vitamin E ensure clean skin without any dryness.

Embrace spring cleaning and refresh that beauty stash! Be sure to go to Meijer Beauty to check out their new lineup of cosmetic and skin care items and restock for a beautiful YOU.  – Lisa

Portable sun protection from Neutrogena

I know, I know, sunscreen is just one more thing to do…but it ABSOLUTELY necessary! I need sun protection that my family will actually use; a sunscreen that is so easy to apply and comfortable to wear that no one will fight me on it. Thank goodness Neutrogena sent the BIZ a few sunscreens to try out, because I have found the solutions to my families ‘issues’ with sun protection.

Neutrogena sunscreen sticks

My husband is a very smart man, so I never could figure out why he was so resistant to wearing sunscreen. Apparently he is not alone – in fact, according to Neutrogena, nearly 50% of men have admitted to not applying sunscreen over the past year and 2/3 of men feel women need to wear sunscreen more than men due to “sun sensitivity”! If that isn’t shocking enough, consider this: men often spend more time in the sun unprotected and therefore have a higher incidence of skin cancer as they age.

My hubby spends all day long in the sun and I finally found the product that has convinced him it’s not too ‘inconvenient’ to put on sunscreen. Neutrogena® BEACH DEFENSE® Sunscreen Stick ($10.99) has done the trick for me.

Beach Defense

Neutrogena Beach Defense Sunscreen

Beach Defense

Beach Defense

Neutrogena® BEACH DEFENSE® Sunscreen Stick has broad spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection and it couldn’t be easier to use. The stick glides right on without any mess or stickiness. It’s water-resistant up to 80 minutes and the lightweight formula soaks right in. It’s also oil free so it doesn’t make the hubby break out. He keeps this in his truck and applies it every few hours to his face, arms, and legs…and now I don’t nag him anymore. Well, I don’t nag him about sunscreen.  It’s a great product but it’s not THAT much of a miracle!

As far as getting my kids to use sunscreen, my go-to product is Neutrogena® ULTRA SHEER® Face & Body Sunscreen Stick ($10.99). I keep this in my car and my children have no excuses – when mom comes at them with the ‘stick’ and they just stand still and let me do my thing.

UltraSheer

Neutrogena UltraSheer Face and Body Stick Sunscreen

UltraSheer

UltraSheer Sunscreen – love the wide-faced stick

Neutrogena® ULTRA SHEER® Face & Body Sunscreen Stick has a really cool wide-faced stick that makes it even easier and quicker to apply. As the name suggests, the sunscreen goes on super sheer without that greasy feel of many sunscreens. And talk about sun protection – it has Broad Spectrum SPF 70.  Like the Beach Defense, this is water-resistant and absorbs quickly, plus it doesn’t leave a shiny finish.

If you have a stubborn husband and kids, or just need a convenient and portable sunscreen, go with the stick. Neutrogena has exactly what you need.  – Lisa

Just in time for summer, Makeup Wars chooses favorite sunscreens

Welcome to Makeup Wars. This is the week that we are drumming it into your heads that you need to use sunscreen. Not really but we hope that by sharing our favorite sunscreens with you we can remind you of the importance of using sunscreen and using it properly. I’m not a person who ordinarily goes out in the sun. My idea of getting my Vitamin D is by walking to and from my car or sitting in the shade when I’m outdoors. But no matter how I’m getting sun, I’ve learned that wearing sunscreen and using the right amount is paramount to keeping my skin looking more youthful. Yes I envy the friends I have who look fabulous and thinner with a tan, but I don’t envy their wrinkles and I don’t take chances.

Favorite favorite sunscreens: Algenist, Supergoop, B.Kamins Sun Defense

Favorite favorite sunscreens: Algenist, Supergoop, B.Kamins Sun Defense

I divided up my sunscreen loves into two categories: face and body. I prefer to use SPF that’s formulated specifically for the face and has a moisturizing effect at the same time. My three favorites are: Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum with SPF 30

Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum

Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum

Algenist Ultra Lightweight UV Defense Fluid SPF 50

Algenist Ultra Lightweight UV Defense Fluid SPF 50

Algenist Ultra Lightweight UV Defense Fluid SPF 50

And my newest: B.Kamins Sun Defense SPF 30 Lotion. Since I’ve previously reviewed and loved the first two for their lightweight coverage I’ll tell you more about the B.Kamins and why I like it so much. (This was sent for review.)

B.Kamins Sun Defense SPF30

B.Kamins Sun Defense SPF30

B.Kamins Sun Defense is both fragrance free and oil free which is what I look for in a facial formula. Of course it can be used anywhere on your body too but I save the precious stuff for my face. This provides both UVA and UVB protection and is especially good for sensitive skin. It has both physical and light absorbing sunblocks. Did you know that if you take certain medications that it makes your skin more photosensitive? That’s a big reason to use this sunscreen. I’ve always burned very easily and never before realized that medications could have had a part in this.

B. Kamins Sun Defense SPF30 swatch

B. Kamins Sun Defense SPF30 swatch

This has a very creamy formula and comes out as a peachy pink color. I like that I can see if I missed any spots. It takes about 2 – 3 minutes to absorb but from that point on I can put on any type of foundation over it. I find I don’t need any kind of serum since this does everything in one – it primes, it moisturizes and it protects. I love that there’s never a scent even if I get overheated later in the day. I haven’t had any reactions to Sun Defense. It’s a great formula that I’m happy to recommend.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreens

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreens

For my body I’ve started using the Neutrogena line. I was sent 2 Neutrogena sunscreens to test and now I find I have to share them with my husband. Darn it. My husband has had several basal cell carcinomas removed and his dermatologist insisted that he not only wear a hat but that he use sunscreen. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch was on the list he received from the derm of products to use. We both use this since I slather my neck and arms with it when I’m getting dressed in the morning and he uses it for his face, arm and chest area. What’s great about Dry Touch is that it’s Broad Spectrum with SPF45. Plus Neutrogena uses Helioplex Technology that makes its sunscreens photostable. Neutrogena makes the Ultra Sheer Dry Touch in different SPF strengths including SPF 45, 55, 75, 85 and 100. I recently saw a package of this at Costco with 2 regular size and 2 purse size which I’ll soon be buying.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen

The other Neutrogena sunscreen that I’m using is the Ultra Sheer Body Mist. This is also a Broad Spectrum sunscreen. I have the SPF 100 and it also comes in SPF 30, 45 and 70. What I love about the Body Mist is how easy it is to use. I’m at the mercy of a two year old who believes he should be outside all the time. I keep my Ultra Sheer Body Mist by the door along with a Twistband for my hair. I can spray it on the back of my neck quickly this way so I can play outside with him. It’s got a light fresh mist that doesn’t stain my clothes or get my hair wet. I can also give him a quick spray without him objecting although I’m going to pick up Neutrogena Wet Skin Kids since the small pool is about to come out.

So there you have my review and long winded explanation of my favorite sunscreens. I can’t wait to read what the other Makeup Wars bloggers have to share. I’ll be outside more this summer than any other so this is vital information for me. Please click on the logos to read more. Do you have a favorite? I’d love to know. — Marcia
