Makeup Wars – favorite drugstore foundations and concealers

Woman applying concealerWelcome back to Makeup Wars and our budget friendly theme of the week – drugstore favorites for foundation and concealer. My picks are rather limited but they are products I use all the time so they are trusted and true for me. I’ll be interested in what my fellow bloggers pick since I’m always in the market for something new.

My two favorite foundations for this theme are by Rimmel and SheaMoisture while my favorite concealers are from Maybelline. The prices are reasonable but more important I love the way they wear.

RIMMEL LASTING FINISH 25 HR SKIN PERFECTING FOUNDATION

Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 HR foundation

Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25 HR foundation

I bought Rimmel Lasting Finish on the recommendation of a friend from a Facebook beauty board. She just kept saying how perfect her skin looked with it and it was hard to resist. The hardest part of buying drugstore foundation is color matching. Since I’m very pale I start with the lightest shade. My choice was Pale Ivory 091 which is good match though a tad darker than I prefer.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation in 091 Light Ivory

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation in 091 Light Ivory

I sometimes mix in a drop of Manic Panic Dreamtone Flawless Foundation Color Corrector in white with this and other foundations. This $9.24 product has saved me so many times and makes foundations too dark usable again.manic panicDepending on what you read Rimmel Lasting Finish is either a medium or full coverage. I’d say it’s in between. It’s very lightweight to apply and doesn’t feel heavy or look cakey. There is a fragrance to it that takes about 10 minutes before I stop noticing it but that doesn’t stop me.

SHEAMOISTURE WEIGHTLESS SHEA SERUM FOUNDATION

Shea Moisture Weightless Shea Serum Foundaton

SheaMoisture Weightless Shea Serum Foundation

Lisa and I reviewed 3 shades of the SheaMoisture Serum Foundation in one of our side by side reviews. Above are Nude and Latte from Lisa and below is Porcelain that I use.

Shea Moisture Tea Rose Luscious Lipstick and Weightless Shea Serum Foundation in Porcelain

SheaMoisture Tea Rose Luscious Lipstick and Weightless Shea Serum Foundation in Porcelain

By coincidence I’m wearing this foundation as I type. I find this to be such an easy to wear foundation. It lays lightly on my skin yet the coverage is excellent. No matter what tool I chose to blend with, it always works well. In my original review of this I compared this $14.99 foundation to my $65 bottle of Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF40 and the only difference is the $40 saved and the fact that there’s no SPF in SheaMoisture.

SHEA MOISTURE Weightless Shea Serum Foundation in Porcelain

SHEAMOISTURE Weightless Shea Serum Foundation in Porcelain

While the SheaMoisture was a press sample it’s one I’d buy again without any qualms. It’s formulated with natural ingredients and never tested on amimals. It contains shea butter and Vitamins C & E to nourish, protect and moisturize. Available in 20 shades with most designated for darker skintones.

MAYBELLINE INSTANT AGE REWIND TREATMENT CONCEALERS

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer

In actuality, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealers are the only ones currently in my makeup wardrobe. Any others are long gone. But these have made the cut and make me want to try Maybelline’s latest concealers. Sadly no personal pictures since I lost them and haven’t found a way to upload photos but… I can still vouch for these. I bought 3 different shades: #110 is the shade I use for concealer, #150 is their neutralizer shade , and #160 is their brightener shade. I’ve only used 110 and 160 so far and they do what they say. #110 is good for those of us with pale skin. It’s not a wimpy concealer, the coverage is quite nice. #160 is slightly peachy and I use this to brighten undereye circles. The formula is quite creamy and a little goes a long way.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer

As tempting as it is for me to use the cushy sponge top, it’s too heavy an application so I dot it on and then blend with my finger. Age Rewind contains goji berry and haloxen to help diminish puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. #150 is for very stubborn dark circles and should be applied prior to any other concealer.

There you have my drugstore buys. What do you use and recommend? I’m always curious and up for new challenges.  —  Marcia

Five essential tips for transitioning into fall – with a little help from Meijer

Everything you need to transition into fall from Meijer!

Everything you need to transition into fall from Meijer!

I guess it is officially fall…I saw my first Christmas display at the store today!! I also saw my first red and orange leaves on the trees in my yard. I’m breaking out my heavy jeans, sweaters, and jackets – so much fun to rediscover a whole new season’s wardrobe. Meijer sent me a fabulous box of goodies with everything needed to also change my skin care and cosmetics wardrobe and it reminded me of the five essential tips for transitioning into fall.

Rethink your skin care

Rethink your skin care

1.  Rethink your skin care.  With the weather turning cooler, the air inside gets drier which changes your skin care needs.

Simple Cleansing Micellar Water

Simple Cleansing Micellar Water

A terrific option for makeup removal and toner is Simple Cleansing Micellar Water ($6.29). It’s all the rage right now and for good reason. This is gentle and easy to use, and most importantly it doesn’t dry out skin. In fact, the micellar water boosts skin hydration 90%. The price is right too, making it a no-brainer for fall.

Switch your hair products

Switch your hair products

2.  Switch your hair products to compensate for dry indoor air.  Just like skin, hair changes with the seasons, and fall brings dry, frizzy, static-filled hair. Go for moisturizing hair products, like Pantene Expert Collection Dry Defy Shampoo and Conditioner ($8.39). This ultra-moisturizing duo tackles even the most parched hair, taking care of frizz, split ends, and static.

Try going natural for toothpaste and deodorant

Try going natural for toothpaste and deodorant

3.  Try going natural for toothpaste and deodorant. My daughters have completely switched to Tom’s of Maine products and swear by the AntiPlaque and Whitening Toothpaste ($4.49) and Natural Deodorant ($4.49). The toothpaste is flouride-free and fights both cavities and plaque, and the deodorant is aluminum-free with 24 hour odor protection that really works. Not only do these natural products truly perform, Tom’s of Maine walks the talk as a planet friendly line that is truly natural, sustainable, and responsible.

Update and invest in new fall colors

Update and invest in new fall colors

4.  Update old products and invest in some fun fall colors.  It’s a great time to invest in some new makeup brushes, and definitely time to throw out your old mascara, lip gloss, and foundation and get some fresh new shades.

Fun fall shades and products to update

Fun fall shades and products to update

I am so happy to see that the Real Techniques Travel Essentials Makeup Brush Collection ($12.59) is available at Meijer. Marcia first introduced me to these brushes several years ago and they are absolutely fantastic. This set comes with a cool travel case and it includes my favorite brush of all time – the Domed Shadow Brush.

Mascara needs to be replaced every 2 months or so, and there are great sales at Meijer for the fall season so take advantage! Two picks for long and lush lashes include Covergirl The Super Sizer ($6.99) and Maybelline Volum’ Express the Colossal Chaotic Lash ($6.99). Why not go big this fall?  The Super Sizer makes lashes as long as they can get.  Don’t give up on the Colossal Chaotic Lash…once I figured out how to use the brush both vertically and horizontally my lashes went from ok to incredible.

Lippies need to be updated too…throw out those gross old lip glosses and sticky lipsticks and try something a little different. I can’t stop raving about the Covergirl Outlast Lipstick in Into the Fuchsia  This is a bright, bold shade with a hint of shimmer and the opaque coverage really lasts. It’s a cross between a lipstick and a gel-based balm and it feels divine on the lips.

And how perfect is that Revlon Colorstay 16 Hour Eyeshadow Palette in Surreal ($6.59)? Interestingly, this was part of the Summer 2015 Collection, but I think the gold and green shades are truly perfect for fall.

New season, new scents!

New season, new scents!

5.  Switch to new scents for the new season.  It’s time to say goodbye to soft summer scents and go a bit bolder. For women, I love Versace Bright Crystal ($73). The top notes are pomegranate, Yuzu and frosted accord. Mid-notes include peony and magnolia, and base notes include amber extracted from plants, musk and red woods. I think of this as a ‘frozen flower’ scent…great for transitioning into colder months!

For the man in your life, I am totally gaga for Hugo Man by Hugo Boss ($19.99). The top note is green apple, with aromatic notes and a base of fir balsam. Makes me picture a buff guy in flannel, riding a horse, stopping to pick me an apple as we ride through an orchard…ah, you get the idea. It’s fabulous and you want your guy to smell like this.

If you need an excuse to go shopping, you’ve got two here – you need new things for the new season and Meijer has great sales going on right now. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get ready for fall!  – Lisa

Top Ten Mascaras for 2015

Beautysets - Top Ten Mascaras
What a tricky topic this is. Beside the choice of color for a lipstick, I think mascara is the hardest product to agree on. Our eyes are so different as is what we are looking for in a mascara. What’s one person’s “OMG” is another person’s “You like that???”. Here are 10 of my latest OMG mascaras. Some are new to me and some you’ve seen over and over again but a little reminder can’t hurt.
I did my list in order of the price of the mascara not in order of the love of it.
1.  MILANI TOTAL LASH COVER ($4.99) is one I pick up every time I notice a BOGO sale. I love how this mascara makes my eyelashes look and I love the price. It’s always sold out and there’s a reason for that.
2.  MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATION ($8.99) is one I can’t resist even though it’s a bear to remove. But the look is so lush that I can’t help but love it. Just have a good eye makeup remover handy.

3.  RIMMEL WONDERLASH ($8.99*) is a new one for me. I’m still on my first tube of it but I’ll buy it again. It’s a great everyday mascara that makes my lashes look full and comes off with ease.

Rimmel London Wonderlash

4.  EDDIE FUNKHOUSER QUATRO VARIABLE LASH ($12.99) is one you’ve seen a “few” times. I’ve bought so many of these and still have one left. When some of my stash is used up, Eddie will be back in my cart without a doubt. This is a mascara for everyone since there are 4 variable settings you can use depending on how much volume you are interested in. Just turn the knob and you get fuller and fuller lashes. I keep mine on the 3rd one.

5. BAREMINERALS LASH DOMINATION ($18) was sent for review originally. I love the way this applies and already bought a new one. This is another that looks great all day and removes easily at night.

BareMinerals Lash Domination

6.  TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX MASCARA ($23) gives me the false eyelash look I want. It could easily be my number one favorite. Lash lashes that aren’t crunchy, length, volume. It’s got it all.

7.  IT COSMETICS HELLO LASHES ($23), my list wouldn’t be complete without Hello Lashes. My original one came in a set that was sent and since then I’ve bought it half a dozen times.

8.  DOUCCE PUNK VOLUMIZER ($24*) was in one of my recent Wantable boxes and it caught me by surprise. It’s so not me but I can’t help but like it. I don’t know if I’d buy it again but the novelty of having a very volumizing mascara is fun for me. It’s truly a night mascara since I don’t usually have “out there” lashes.

9.  CHARLOTTE TILBURY ‘FULL FAT LASHES’ 5 STAR MASCARA ($29) is my luxury choice. It’s one of the products that I was most excited to get from Charlotte Tilbury and I’m not disappointed with how great my lashes look when wearing it.

10.  MDMflow GREATER THAN MASCARA (approximately $33) was in my Boxycharm box from July. I wasn’t so sure about this new UK mascara but I stuck with it and I really like it. I’m glad it was in my subscription though I’m not sure if I’d repurchase. But I do like it and it needed to be in my list.

A trio of interesting drugstore mascaras (Covergirl, Maybelline, Rimmel)

Rimmel Wonderlash, Covergirl The Super Sizer, Maybelline Lash Sensation

Rimmel Wonderlash, Covergirl The Super Sizer, Maybelline Lash Sensational

Drugstore beauty shopping is always a fun treat. If I want a pick me up I head to the aisles of CVS, Walgreen, Meijer or Ulta to find something new to try out. While two of these mascaras were sent for review, I know I’d have eventually picked them up during a sale.

I find this trio to be very different from each other. They aren’t sisters from another mother in any way. They may not even be from the same clan though they all have something I like about them. I’m reviewing them in order from least to most eyelash presentation.

Covergirl The Super Sizer

Covergirl The Super Sizer

COVERGIRL THE SUPER SIZER* is the newest addition to the Covergirl family ($6.85). What stands out about this mascara is the wand. This very skinny wand has small and larger bristles intertwined. It looks like it’s not going to give you any volume, but depending on your own lashes you might be surprised. I personally have straight, wimpy lashes and I don’t get much in the way of volume from Super Sizer. It’s a great bottom lash mascara because it doesn’t smudge when you apply it. The trick with Covergirl Super Sizer is to twirl the brush as you apply it. I didn’t do that the first time I used it and I was very disappointed. But I kept on and each day got a little bit better. While this isn’t going to give me the lushness I crave, it does open my eyes and never smudges.

Rimmel Wonder Lash

Rimmel Wonder Lash

RIMMEL WONDER LASH MASCARA WITH ARGAN OIL* is a step beyond others I’ve tried from the drugstore. I love that this conditions my lashes while making them look good at the same time. While the package says it’s a volume mascara, I find that it gives me better length and definition than it does volume. This is the mascara that I like to use on a daily basis. It’s not as lush as I’d like to see my lashes get but it’s not meek or mild either. It removes with ease and my lashes aren’t crispy or flaky with this. No raccoons need apply for this job.

wearing Rimmel Wonderlash with argan oil

wearing Rimmel Wonderlash with argan oil

MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATIONAL ($8.99) and I have a love/hate relationship. I love the mascara and have recommended it but I hate how difficult it is to remove. No matter which eye makeup remover I try, I do seem to lose some lashes with it and that drives me nuts since I don’t have extras. The best remover for this is Reviva Labs Eye Makeup Remover Gel which I put on a cotton pad and let sit on my lashes for at least 10 seconds before trying to remove.

Maybelline Lash Sensation

Maybelline Lash Sensational

I bought this in Blackest Black (on special of course) and it definitely is the darkest of these three. It also gives me the best lashes of the group. I love the curved brush since it seems to get all my lashes in one scoop. Maybelline calls it a “full fan effect” and I think that’s an accurate description. The curved brush has 10 layers of densely packed bristles to give that fullness. What I get with Lash Sensational is volume, definition and length. What else can I ask for? Well… there’s that issue of removal and there’s the issue of longevity. Normally I get a good three months out of a mascara (especially since I have several in use at the same time) but by month two I noticed that Lash Sensational didn’t have the oomph any more. It dried out faster than I expected. I’ll most likely buy this again during a sale but at least I know the limitations of it.

Have you tried any of these mascaras? What’s your opinion of them? — Marcia

8 beauty items you need to toss now! Spring Clean Refresh with Meijer Beauty

*sponsored post*

Spring CleaningTime to toss! I am gearing up for some spring cleaning and first on my list is my vanity. Clearing out feels so good…I love it when things are organized and sparkling clean. Besides, extra space means room for new things!
Does your cosmetics stash look like this??

Does your cosmetics stash look like this??

Spring cleaning isn’t just for closets and pantries – it is so important to also tackle that beauty stash. Time goes by fast and before your know it you have beauty items that are years old. Anything you use with your hands or put on your face eventually gathers bacteria and can cause breakouts and other skin issues. Items with active ingredients become inactive over time, becoming an exercise in futility. Besides, it’s fun to go through and edit your cosmetics and skin care, plus what a great opportunity to go shopping to replenish!
If you are like me, the memory fades, so when you purchase a new item mark the date on the bottom of the jar with a black sharpie. It makes spring cleaning much easier. Also, most skin care items have an open jar symbol followed by a number and the letter ‘M’.  This tells you how many months you can use the product after opening it – so 6M means six months after opening, 9M means nine months after opening, etcetera. Don’t forget, when using products packaged in jars NEVER stick your fingers in the jar. Use a small cosmetics spatula to spoon out the product so you aren’t introducing bacteria into the jar.
Here are the top 8 items that you need to toss, along with some suggestions for replacements. Meijer just announced an exciting lineup of new beauty items, so it’s a great place to shop to renew that beauty routine and you can find all of my suggestions there.
L'Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Serum

L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Serum

1.  Serum:  I am sure this is no surprise. Typically serum is in air tight packaging, which keeps ingredient integrity, but once you start using a serum it’s only good for about six months. Toss it even earlier if the texture changes or it starts to smell weird. If you need to replenish, check out L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler.  It is wonderfully affordable and has hyaluronic acid to plump skin and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder Foundation

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder Foundation

2.  Foundation:  obviously, liquid foundation is a bacteria collector, especially jar-based foundation that is exposed to the air. But did you know that powder foundation also goes bad? Think about it…you dip your brush into the foundation, the brush goes on your skin, then you dip that brush back onto the foundation…all those skin oils are transferred into the powder, which means after a while it becomes pretty dirty. Toss that old stuff and try something new, like L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder Foundation.  This is opaque enough to use as foundation, and it also works great as a pressed powder to cancel out a shiny nose.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara and Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara and Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom

3.  Mascara:  this is a must-toss every season! After a while, mascara dries out and loses its lash lengthening and thickening power. Plus, any product that isn’t a solid is in danger of collecting bacteria. Glam out with your mascara and then replace it as soon as it shows any sign of dryness or starts to smell ‘off’, typically at about three months. By the way, resist ‘pumping’ your mascara – it makes it dry out even more quickly, and always toss your mascaras if you have an eye infection. Two mascaras to try for long, lush lashes are Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara and Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom.

L'Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Moisturizer

L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Moisturizer

4.  Moisturizer:  jar moisturizer lasts at the most 6 months. Go through all those open jars you know you have sitting on your shelves and toss anything you opened last fall. Not only do they become a potential hazard for your skin because of bacteria, but the active ingredients stop working so why bother? Try something new, like L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Moisturizer to smooth out those lines and wrinkles.

Degree Dryspray Deodorant

Degree Dry Spray Deodorant

5.  Deodorant:  yes, deodorant does have a shelf life! While most have expiration dates, a good rule of thumb is two years. It’s a great idea to stock up on deodorant when it is on sale, but be sure to write your purchase date on the extras if they don’t have an expiration date. A great replacement is Degree Dry Spray. It sprays on dry and protects for up to 48 hours, so no worries on those hectic late mornings!

Neutrogena Cooldry Sport Sunscreen

Neutrogena Cooldry Sport Sunscreen

6.  Sunscreen:  sunscreen loses its effectiveness over time and you sure don’t want to get a sunburn thanks to an outdated bottle. Most have an expiration date, but the longest any sunscreen will last is three years. My absolute favorite and a great one for restocking is Neutrogena Cooldry Sport.  I can even get my kids to put this on without a fight.

Cover Girl Lip Lava

Cover Girl Lip Lava

7.  Lip gloss:  a liquid product you apply to your lips?  Of course lip gloss is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to beauty items that go bad and need to be replaced regularly. Replace your old lip glosses with Cover Girl Lip Lava. I adore this lip gloss!  My favorite shade is Lava-Rider. I put it on then blot and I have a beautiful shimmery stain that lasts and lasts.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser

8.  Face cleanser:  these only last a year, so often a big bottle will expire before it’s gone. If your face cleanser isn’t working well, the consequences will definitely be evident to everyone! A great option for replacing your old stuff is Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser. White tea and vitamin E ensure clean skin without any dryness.

Embrace spring cleaning and refresh that beauty stash! Be sure to go to Meijer Beauty to check out their new lineup of cosmetic and skin care items and restock for a beautiful YOU.  – Lisa

10 Budget Friendly Back-to-School Beauty Essentials

Whether you or your kids are going back to school or off to college, it’s the perfect time of year to find deals on essential beauty products.  The Meijer Beauty team challenged me to find my top back-to-school picks, and it was gratifying to see my must-have bath, body and color items with wonderful prices.  Considering I work in a high school and have kids in both college and middle school, I am all about finding the best products at the right price.  Drumroll please…my top ten recommendations for essential (and budget friendly) back-to-school products.

Soap for school: J.R. Watkins Foaming Hand Soap and I love...Coconut & Cream Shower Gel

Soap for school: J.R. Watkins Foaming Hand Soap and I love…Coconut & Cream Bubble Bath and Shower Cream

1.  J.R. Watkins Foaming Hand Soap ($4.99, I got it at Meijer for $4.49)  The reason I first bought this hand soap was for the awesome vintage label.  The reason I keep buying it?  It’s excellent foaming hand soap, especially for the price.  The soap in public buildings like schools is usually pretty rough stuff, I wash my hands all the time.  My solution is to bring my own.  I keep this soap in my office, and it would fit nicely into a locker.  I like the Aloe and Green Tea scent as a real mood enhancer to help get the school year off right.

2.  I love…Coconut & Cream Bubble Bath and Shower Cream ($7.29)  This British brand is soooo good…doesn’t the packaging look like the Philosophy bottles?  I actually prefer the I love… brand, and it is so much more affordable.  I start my day with a shower then end it with a bubble bath, and the Coconut & Cream scent takes me right back onto vacation.

Necessities for school

Necessities for school

3.  Goody 50 piece Ouchless No Metal Elastics ($2.19, but I got mine at Meijer for $1.10!)  The perfect way to hide morning bedhead is with a ponytail or bun…and these Ouchless Elastics don’t snag, pull, or break hair strands.

4.  Nivea Lip Butter in Caramel Cream Kiss ($3.99)  This super cute lip butter has only been available in the U.S. for about a year, and I am so happy it’s easily found now!  It has great slip and keeps lips soft and moist, plus it tastes like caramel toffee.  Yum.

5.  Meijer Hand Sanitizer ($1.19)  This is simply a must-have for purses and backpacks.  You never know who was sitting in that desk or what nose they were picking…eewwwwww.

Perfect colors for back to school!

Nudes and deep pinks

Nudes and berries

6.  Cover Girl Bombshell Volume by Lashblast Mascara ($9.39)  I think this is the best drugstore mascara out there.  One end is the base coat, which gives definition and length perfect for casual days.  When I want more oomph – and I mean fantastic oomph – I use the other end, the intensifying top coat.  This side darkens lashes and provides mega-drama without any flakes or smearing.

Physician's Formula Nude Eyes

Physician’s Formula Nude Eyes

Nude Eyes - gorgeous.

Nude Eyes – gorgeous.

7.  Physician’s Formula Nude Eyes ($9.99, but I got mine at Meijer for an incredible $6.99)  I am loving neutral, nude eyes with berry cheeks for the fall, and this nude eyeshadow palette is to die for.  Is it reminding you of the Urban Decay Naked2 palette?  Yup, me too, but this is way cheaper with the same quality.  Use these shadows dry or wet for more intensity, and keep the palette sitting out because the packaging is stunning.

Maybelline Hi-Lighting Blush in Pink Rose

Maybelline Hi-Lighting Blush in Pink Rose

8.  Maybelline Hi-Lighting Blush in Pink Rose ($8.29)  Just check out the gorgeousness of this mosaic highlighter/blush.  The soft, creamy shades can be used alone, but I like to swirl a big brush over the whole thing for a beautiful berry glow on my cheeks.

Nicole by OPI mani and pedi shades for school

9 and 10.  Nicole by OPI Nail Polish in Sing You Like a Bee and Cocoa a Gogo ($5.99 each)  Going back to school is an awesome reason to treat yourself to a manicure and a pedicure, and these two shades are perfect for a nude and berry combo.

Sing You Like a Bee

Sing You Like a Bee

Sing You Like a Bee is from the Carrie Underwood collection.  This is a gorgeous sheer white with golden shimmers.  It is a beautiful shimmery nude look by itself, and it makes a perfect top layer over pretty much any color.

Cocoa a Gogo

Cocoa a Gogo

Cocoa a Gogo is a shimmery chocolate-brown that I love for pedicures…and it is the perfect color for transitioning into cool days and cozy nights by the fire.  Even better, it smells like cinnamon!

Not only are these ten products essentials, it also costs less than $55 to purchase them all at Meijer.  Get your style on for back to school and save money too!

Be sure to check out MeijerStyle.com the last week in August for a post with links to lots of blogger Back-to-School articles – one lucky person who comments on the MeijerStyle.com post will receive a gift basket of Back-to-School/Back-to-College products.  – Lisa

Spring blush the Makeup Wars way

Spring blush favorites

Spring blush favorites

Makeup Wars is back to redden your cheeks, bring a flush to your face and enchant you with beautiful blush. We’ve picked some of our favorites that are gracing our cheeks this spring and into the summer. I’ve chosen 9 but I could have chosen 90 most likely.

Makeup Wars spring blush open

If you are a Beauty Info Zone reader then you know that I love cream blush. I’m much more likely to buy a cream blush than a powder one so I’m starting with my springiest creams.

Tarte, Maybelline, Face Stockholm, Josie Maran, Make Up For Ever

Tarte, Maybelline, Face Stockholm, Josie Maran, Make Up For Ever

1. Tarte cheek stains come in 8 shades and you’ll have a tough time picking out a favorite. I chose Fearless since that’s the one I’ve been using the most lately. It’s a pinky coral and seems to look great with almost every eye look I choose.

Tarte Fearless Power PIgment and Cheek Stain

2. Maybelline Master Glaze Cream Blush Stick in Pink Fever is my version of Radiant Orchid in a blush. It’s one of the best buys of the year for me since I love the longevity of the product, the perky color and the price. I need to pick up more of these.

Maybelline Master Glaze in Perky Pink

3. Face Stockholm Creme Blush in London is getting a lot of love these days. I took a new picture for this review but I’ve used it so much that it looked raggedy. It’s a papaya shade that looks super bright in pictures and swatches but not on my face. I use a light touch when applying this long lasting color.

4. Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise is a blush that just doesn’t want to swatch for me. It’s described as ‘warm toned hot pink’ which is a great, if confusing, description. It feels cooling when you apply it. The Cheek Gelee can be used alone or as a stain to wear under a powder if you find blush fades on you. I just might have purchased Pink Escape during the Sephora 15% off sale.

5. Make Up For Ever HD Second Skin Cream Blush in 210 but I easily could have picked 225 and 330 since the 3 I have are scrumptious. I love the colors of these. They are so smooth and as Lisa said “DREAMY”. We’ve reviewed 6 of these and can’t praise them enough. Find a color (or 5) that you love and you’ll never be sorry.

I’m no slacker when it comes to powder blush and have a small mountain of those too. The 4 I’ve chosen are the ones I’m finding most versatile for spring.

6. TheBalm InStain in Argyle is my latest buy. I purchased it from Hautelook and will purchase more the next time they are on sale. I love the color of Argyle (petal pink) and I love not only how smoothly it applies but it has amazing longevity. It does have stain-like qualities. The pigmentation is intense even though Argyle is the lightest shade available.

7. Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Cheek in Parasol is absolutely beautious. I constantly express my love for the Dollskin Cream blushes so I was excited to receive this powder blush. It’s as amazing as the cream blushes. Parasol is so soft and cream like. It has a gorgeous glow to it. Tarina Tarantino describes it as shimmering bright pink coral. I describe it as beautiful.

8. Senna Sheer Face Color in Pink Diva is the sweetest pink of the group. When I want a pink that’s pink this is what I pick. While the name says sheer, the blush isn’t sheer. It’s loaded with cool tones of pinkness.

9. Eddie Funkhouser Ultra Intensity Cheek Color in A Little Toasted doesn’t appear to be a blush you’d choose for spring but it’s great for that very reason. I sometimes need a very neutral shade and this is a neutral. There’s a brownish mauve tinge to it that was hard to capture but it’s there. It’s almost like a contour color for my fair skin.
