My first experience with L’Oreal skincare – Revitalift

L'Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal

I’m probably one of the only women of my generation that hasn’t used L’Oreal Skincare products. I’ve stayed away from it since I find their products to be too perfumed for me. Yet here I am using their Revitalift Bright Reveal products. I am a member of something called BzzAgent. I’ve been a part of their site for a dozen years and every once in a while they offer campaigns that they feel I am qualified for. I’ve reviewed a variety of products through them – Covergirl Olay cosmetics, mustards, a toothpaste, and a variety of food items. They’ve even sent toilet paper. It’s rare that they offer anything in my field though so I agreed to try this out when it was offered.

L'Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal

4 products from L’Oreal’s Revitalift line were sent my way to test for approximately a month. I have mixed feelings about these but you have to remember that I have a scent bias which I freely admit. I think any negativity I might show is due to that as the products are actually quite good. Revitalift has a big variety of skincare items with these 4 being their Bright Reveal line.

L'Oreal Bright Reveal Brightening Daily Scrub Cleanser

L’Oreal Bright Reveal Brightening Daily Scrub Cleanser

As usual we start with a cleanser. The Bright Reveal Brightening Daily Scrub Cleanser ($6.99) contains glycolic acid so I haven’t used it daily. This is more than just a cleanser as it’s also an exfoliator so it’s stronger than many of the cleansers I use. This $6.99 cleanser is packaged in a tube which makes it easy to use and remove the amount I need so there’s little waste. It contains micro-pearls along with the glycolic to gently scrub your face, ridding it of dead skin cells and brightening the appearance. The fragrance is noticeable to me but I don’t think it would affect most users.

L'Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Moisturizer

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Moisturizer

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Moisturizer is the daytime moisturizer for Bright Reveal. As you can see by the box it too contains Glycolic Acid although the percentage isn’t given. What makes this right for daytime is the SPF 30 Broad Spectrum Sunscreen. The active ingredients are Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 5%, Octisalate 5%, and Octocrylene 7%. It also contains Glycolic Acid, Vit C, Pro-Retinol, BROAD SPECTRUM SPF30. While this too has a fragrance it isn’t cloying, instead it’s almost a floral citrus scent. Since the fragrance doesn’t dissipate I really enjoy it on the back of my hands. I wish the fragrance was lighter but it’s doable for me there. This retails for $19.99 (Amazon has a 20% off coupon off their $16 price).

L'Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Peel Pads

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Peel Pads

Use the Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Peel Pads after nighttime cleansing and before moisturizing. This has the strongest amount of Glycolic Acid in it as the compound contains 10%. This won’t be for everyone since some people can’t tolerate that amount of glycolic. Therefore I suggest that you not use it nightly even though you are going to want to. I find this is the most effective of the products. 10% Glycolic Complex: Glycolic Acid, Vit C, Citric Acid, HEPES

L'Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Peel Pads

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Peel Pads

Each multi-textured pad is well soaked with the formula and I could almost cut them in half. The jar contains 30 pads which should last a month but I’m not using them daily as suggested. The fragrance is medicinal and reminds me of other pads I’ve used. This is my favorite of the products since I notice not only some brightening but my pores feel cleaner. Also it aids in making other skincare products like night moisturizers more effective.

L'Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Dual Overnight Moisturizer

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Dual Overnight Moisturizer

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Dual Overnight Moisturizer has such interesting packaging. The main ingredients in this are 4% Glycolic Acid, Vitamin C, and Pro-Retinol. The two chambers contain different ingredients that merge into one when pumped out. RED CHAMBER: Powered by glycolic acid. Penetrates skin’s surface layer removing dead skin cells to help absorption. WHITE CHAMBER: Powered by Vitamin C + Pro-Retinol. Enhances skin clarity, reduces visibility of hyperpigmentation, uneven tone, and wrinkles.

L'Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Dual Overnight Moisturizer

L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Dual Overnight Moisturizer

The red chamber contains a clear glycolic gel while the white chamber contains the white creamy moisturizer. They come out separately but you can’t get just one side to release. You are freshly mixing them together to apply on your face. The goal is to brighten your face and reduce wrinkles in just one week. I’m not really wrinkled so I can’t say I see that effect but my skin has looked brighter with this line when I can use it. The fragrance is also slightly citrus but there is some floral to it. Sadly though it keeps me up at night, even if I apply it hours before bedtime.

In conclusion I’m glad I was selected by BzzAgent for this campaign and that I set my fear aside to try the line. While I’m very cautious with the 2 moisturizers I can use them sometimes and I’ll continue using the Brightening Peel Pads since the price is right and I feel they’ve made the most difference. Beauty items to stock up on! Bargains for Meijer Fall Beauty Week

L'Oreal Root Cover Up and Yes to Carrots Ultra Light Spray Body Lotion

I have been loving Facebook lately because of all the awesome ‘back to school’ photos. I don’t care how old you are, there is something magical about this time of year…new beginnings, new friends, and even better – new beauty products! Fall is the perfect time to finish up the products you got for summer and replenish your stash. I’ve partnered with Meijer in anticipation of their Fall Beauty Week that starts September 11th and here are four items to stock up on that are worth the extra closet and drawer space.

Dove Men CareDove Deep Moisture Hydrating Body Wash

1.Body wash. I’ve been using Dove Body Wash forever, so I am happy to see that these will be on sale at Meijer during Fall Beauty Week. If the men in your life are like mine, they resist body wash in favor of bar soap…but I think the Dove Clean Comfort will change their minds. This is an excellent multi-purpose soap that works for body and face, and it has a refreshing outdoorsy scent that isn’t overwhelming.

Colgate Optic White Toothpaste
2. Toothpaste. We all need toothpaste and there are so many options out there (and so many on sale next week!), but I hope you will try my favorite, Colgate Optic White Platinum. I am totally stocking up on this – I prefer a paste over a gel, and this one makes teeth visibly whiter in just three days.Yes to Carrots Ultra Light Spray Body Lotion

3.  Body lotion. Lotion is a year round must-have and I know I panic when I don’t have back up bottles. I am loving the Yes to Coconut Ultra Light Spray Body Lotion because it seems perfect in every sort of weather – it’s light, so it feels great even in hot and sticky weather. It’s super hydrating, so it’s perfect for dry winter skin.  t’s also so nice to have a spray lotion, which makes application easy and convenient. This was even a 2014 Allure Best of Beauty Winner.

L'Oreal Root Cover Up
4.  Root cover up. Gals who color their hair have a deep understanding of the nightmare that begins with the dreaded last spray of root cover up. I always have three bottles of this on hand…any less and I start to panic. The L’Oreal Root Cover Up is perfect for instantly touching up roots, and the money saved by stretching out time between hair appointments is incredible. Stock up while this is on sale!!

So many of my favorite items are on sale next week that I have a whole other post with skin care recommendations. These four items are the ones to buy multiples of for the upcoming winter – take advantage of the wonderful prices on these fantastic products during Fall Beauty Week at Meijer!  – Lisa

Goody Ouchless Reversible Comfort Headwrap

Goody Ouchless Reversible Comfort Headwrap

Goody Ouchless Reversible Comfort Headwrap

1. Ensure a great hair day with headbands. My picks – Scunci No-Slip Grip Headbands and Goody Ouchless Reversible Comfort Headwrap. The Scunci No-Slip Grip Headbands are thin and are perfect time savers in the morning, plus they won’t slip off during workouts. I love the versatility of the Goody Ouchless Reversible Comfort Headwrap, which is also terrific for keeping hair out of your face when cleansing or applying treatments and masks.

Back to school beauty hack:  Wash your hair at night to save time in the morning.  Put your towel dried hair into a loose bun or ponytail wrapped with a soft headband for soft, beachy waves when you wake up.

2.  Get a great complexion with no-fuss foundation. My pick – Covergirl Tru Blend Liquid Makeup in M2. This liquid foundation truly looks natural thanks to cutting edge pigment technology. It lasts all day with or without a primer, and does a great job of making imperfect skin look almost flawless.

Back to school beauty hack:  Even if you are running late, you have time to put on foundation. Forget about brushes or sponges – just put a pump or two on your palms, rub together to warm up, then pat on your face. Voila – instant perfect skin that looks natural and buffed in seconds. (Just remember to wash your hands after!)

3.  Don’t forget your brows! You can get great brows in seconds. My pick – L’Oreal Brow Stylist Designer Eyebrow Pencil. Groomed brows make a huge difference and they are easier to do than you think. Using the pencil end, make short strokes that are about the length of actual brow hair to fill in sparse areas, then use the spoolie to blend in.

Back to school beauty hack: Always brush brow hair straight up for the best eye-opening look.

NYX Butter Gloss in Merengue

NYX Butter Gloss in Merengue

NYX Butter Gloss in Merengue

4.  Brighten your look instantly with lip gloss  My pick – NYX Butter Gloss in Merengue. There’s a reason your mother always said never leave the house without lipstick. Seriously, if you are only going to do one thing it should be your lips. Lipstick can be tricky to apply without a mirror, but lip gloss takes less precision. The NYX Butter Gloss is fantastic. It’s moisturizing and has great slip without any stickiness.  It comes in lots of gorgeous shades but I especially love the pretty pink of Merengue.

Back to school beauty hack:  Smaller tubes of lip gloss are the best! They save you money because you will definitely use the entire product before it goes bad.

Don’t forget, all four of these essential beauty products are on sale during the Meijer Fall Beauty Week from September 11 through the 17th. Put them on your shopping list – I know you will love them for all your back to school needs.  – Lisa

My skin story with L’Oréal Revitalift™ #AskSkinExpert

*This is a sponsored post for L’Oréal/Conde Nast, all opinions mine

What’s your skin story?

Everyone has a unique skin story. In fact, as a blogger it is challenging to review skin care since we all have very different needs…and our personal needs can change from day to day. L’Oréal recognizes that there are countless skin stories out there, so they have created their Revitalift™ Program that helps you create a customized skin care regimen unique to your story and your skin care concerns.

A little over four weeks ago, I completed a skin care consultation through L’Oreal’s new site, www.lorealskinexpert.com and received a customized recommendation for my unique needs. So what’s my story? I grew up in the 70’s, when sun protection consisted of the bright white zinc oxide that my mom smeared across my nose…when she remembered. Every other part of my body that was exposed was left to burn or tan…and I would burn and peel until my skin finally gave in and became a dark tan. That also meant lots of freckles, which were cute back then; in fact, my dad would tell me each freckle was where the sun gave me a kiss.

L'Oreal RevitaLift

L’Oreal RevitaLift #AskSkinExpert

What happens during childhood doesn’t just shape your personality and determine the issues you will eventually need to work through in therapy…it also creates the skin care issues you face as an adult. For me, that wanton sun bathing has resulted in wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and loss of elasticity. After taking the survey at www.lorealskinexpert.com, I was sent three products to test for 4 weeks then write about: Revitalift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Day Cream SPF 18, Revitalift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Night Cream, and Revitalift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Eye Cream.

Less wrinkles and firmer skin? It sounds like exactly what I need. LOreal Paris, the skin experts say that with the Revitalift™ Anti-Wrinkle + Firming skin care I will experience advanced action against the signs of aging. Fortified with Pro-Retinol A and Stimuplex, Revitalift™ Anti-Wrinkle + Firming works to increase cell turnover, reduce wrinkles, firm skin, and provide 24-hour hydration.

There should be a noticeable difference within 4 weeks.

L'Oreal RevitaLift Day Cream

L’Oreal RevitaLift Day Cream

The Revitalift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Day Cream SPF 18 ($17.99) is a thick, creamy moisturizer that keeps skin protected during the day with a broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 18 sunscreen protection. It has a light fragrance that I don’t love, but it does dissipate quickly. For a cream moisturizer it doesn’t go on wet and it sinks it quickly. My skin varies, sometimes it’s dry and sometimes it’s oily, and I found that this moisturizer kept my skin hydrated and didn’t break me out. The big ingredients including Pro-Retinol A and Stimuplex reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles and improve skin tone and firmness.

L'Oreal RevitaLift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Night Cream

L’Oreal RevitaLift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Night Cream

The Revitalift™ Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Night Cream (with Pro-Retinol® A and Stimuplex) ($17.99) is a cream moisturizer in a jar. Minus the sunscreen, it has the same big ingredients as the day cream, although this is a slightly thicker formula and goes on a little more wet. It also has more of  noticeable fragrance, which made it difficult for me to use. I found that my skin really didn’t need the extra hydration at night, but those with very dry skin will appreciate the mega moisturization this provides.

L'Oreal RevitaLift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Eye Cream

L’Oreal RevitaLift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Eye Cream

The Revitalift™ Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Eye Cream (with Pro-Retinol A and Stimuplex) ($17.99) is a fragrance-free moisturizing eye cream that can also be used on the lids.  This is my favorite product of the three – it’s light but very moisturizing and I definitely noticed an improvement in my fine lines.

Here is my before and after photo – what do you think?

L'Oreal Revitalift before and afterI see a pretty noticeable difference. I’m glad I had my skin care consultation. While I understand that back in the day we didn’t have the information we do now regarding sun exposure, it’s imperative to get educated regarding your skin and invest in excellent skin care.

Take a few minutes and visit www.lorealskinexpert.com to get your own customized skin care recommendation by taking the consultation.  You will not only get a customized Revitalift skin care regimen, you will also get great information on decoding ingredients, using skin care products, and skin care lifestyle tips.  – Lisa

8 beauty items you need to toss now! Spring Clean Refresh with Meijer Beauty

*sponsored post*

Spring CleaningTime to toss! I am gearing up for some spring cleaning and first on my list is my vanity. Clearing out feels so good…I love it when things are organized and sparkling clean. Besides, extra space means room for new things!
Does your cosmetics stash look like this??

Does your cosmetics stash look like this??

Spring cleaning isn’t just for closets and pantries – it is so important to also tackle that beauty stash. Time goes by fast and before your know it you have beauty items that are years old. Anything you use with your hands or put on your face eventually gathers bacteria and can cause breakouts and other skin issues. Items with active ingredients become inactive over time, becoming an exercise in futility. Besides, it’s fun to go through and edit your cosmetics and skin care, plus what a great opportunity to go shopping to replenish!
If you are like me, the memory fades, so when you purchase a new item mark the date on the bottom of the jar with a black sharpie. It makes spring cleaning much easier. Also, most skin care items have an open jar symbol followed by a number and the letter ‘M’.  This tells you how many months you can use the product after opening it – so 6M means six months after opening, 9M means nine months after opening, etcetera. Don’t forget, when using products packaged in jars NEVER stick your fingers in the jar. Use a small cosmetics spatula to spoon out the product so you aren’t introducing bacteria into the jar.
Here are the top 8 items that you need to toss, along with some suggestions for replacements. Meijer just announced an exciting lineup of new beauty items, so it’s a great place to shop to renew that beauty routine and you can find all of my suggestions there.
L'Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Serum

L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Serum

1.  Serum:  I am sure this is no surprise. Typically serum is in air tight packaging, which keeps ingredient integrity, but once you start using a serum it’s only good for about six months. Toss it even earlier if the texture changes or it starts to smell weird. If you need to replenish, check out L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler.  It is wonderfully affordable and has hyaluronic acid to plump skin and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder Foundation

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder Foundation

2.  Foundation:  obviously, liquid foundation is a bacteria collector, especially jar-based foundation that is exposed to the air. But did you know that powder foundation also goes bad? Think about it…you dip your brush into the foundation, the brush goes on your skin, then you dip that brush back onto the foundation…all those skin oils are transferred into the powder, which means after a while it becomes pretty dirty. Toss that old stuff and try something new, like L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder Foundation.  This is opaque enough to use as foundation, and it also works great as a pressed powder to cancel out a shiny nose.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara and Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara and Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom

3.  Mascara:  this is a must-toss every season! After a while, mascara dries out and loses its lash lengthening and thickening power. Plus, any product that isn’t a solid is in danger of collecting bacteria. Glam out with your mascara and then replace it as soon as it shows any sign of dryness or starts to smell ‘off’, typically at about three months. By the way, resist ‘pumping’ your mascara – it makes it dry out even more quickly, and always toss your mascaras if you have an eye infection. Two mascaras to try for long, lush lashes are Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara and Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom.

L'Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Moisturizer

L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Moisturizer

4.  Moisturizer:  jar moisturizer lasts at the most 6 months. Go through all those open jars you know you have sitting on your shelves and toss anything you opened last fall. Not only do they become a potential hazard for your skin because of bacteria, but the active ingredients stop working so why bother? Try something new, like L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler Moisturizer to smooth out those lines and wrinkles.

Degree Dryspray Deodorant

Degree Dry Spray Deodorant

5.  Deodorant:  yes, deodorant does have a shelf life! While most have expiration dates, a good rule of thumb is two years. It’s a great idea to stock up on deodorant when it is on sale, but be sure to write your purchase date on the extras if they don’t have an expiration date. A great replacement is Degree Dry Spray. It sprays on dry and protects for up to 48 hours, so no worries on those hectic late mornings!

Neutrogena Cooldry Sport Sunscreen

Neutrogena Cooldry Sport Sunscreen

6.  Sunscreen:  sunscreen loses its effectiveness over time and you sure don’t want to get a sunburn thanks to an outdated bottle. Most have an expiration date, but the longest any sunscreen will last is three years. My absolute favorite and a great one for restocking is Neutrogena Cooldry Sport.  I can even get my kids to put this on without a fight.

Cover Girl Lip Lava

Cover Girl Lip Lava

7.  Lip gloss:  a liquid product you apply to your lips?  Of course lip gloss is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to beauty items that go bad and need to be replaced regularly. Replace your old lip glosses with Cover Girl Lip Lava. I adore this lip gloss!  My favorite shade is Lava-Rider. I put it on then blot and I have a beautiful shimmery stain that lasts and lasts.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser

8.  Face cleanser:  these only last a year, so often a big bottle will expire before it’s gone. If your face cleanser isn’t working well, the consequences will definitely be evident to everyone! A great option for replacing your old stuff is Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Facial Cleanser. White tea and vitamin E ensure clean skin without any dryness.

Embrace spring cleaning and refresh that beauty stash! Be sure to go to Meijer Beauty to check out their new lineup of cosmetic and skin care items and restock for a beautiful YOU.  – Lisa

Top Ten Tuesday’s Drugstore Favorites

Drugstore favorites February 2015

Drugstore favorites February 2015

It probably seems like you’ve just read about favorite drugstore items but last week’s Makeup Wars was a different challenge. Each of us picked one brand and highlighted our favorites from that brand. I chose Eddie Funkhouser which is no surprise to those who follow me. This week though we get to branch out and share 10 favorites from any brand. Since we did a Top Ten Tuesday in August I tried not to repeat products. I also tried not to repeat products recently talked about in Top Ten Tuesday or Makeup Wars. But enough about me and more about the products.

If you look at my Top Ten list you’ll notice I don’t have any lip products. My favorite products are for eyes so that’s what I concentrate on when I’m shopping. I’ve yet to find a drugstore lip product that I love. I did forget to put Burt’s Bees lip balms though – bad me.

MASCARA

Milani Total Lash Cover and L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly

Milani Total Lash Cover and L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly

Both Milani Total Lash Cover and L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly mascaras are repeat purchases. These are my newest ones and unopened only because I have too many mascaras in use for now. Of the two the Milani is my top choice. I love definition for my lashes and Milani Total Lash Cover is comparable to much more expensive mascaras. L’Oreal Butterfly adds the volume I like without being clumpy.

EYELINER

NYX liquid eyeliner in Dark Brown and Milani Fierce Foil cream/powder eyeliner

NYX liquid eyeliner in Dark Brown and Milani Fierce Foil cream/powder eyeliner

I’m having a love affair with both the NYX Liquid Eyeliner in Dark Brown and Milani’s Fierce Foil eyeliner in Fierce Brown. As a matter of fact I just bought 2 more shades of the Milani over the weekend but haven’t tried them yet. I wear a liquid liner at least 50% of the time and a gel liner about 40% of the time. I’m thrilled to find drugstore liners that can satisfy my eyelining urges and look perfect at the same time.

EYESHADOW BRUSH

e.l.f. glitter shadow applicator

e.l.f. glitter shadow applicator

This is my newest e.l.f.  shadow brush although it’s not really a brush. It’s made for applying glitter eyeshadow though I use it for pigments. The pigment adheres well to the applicator and then you PAT it on your eye. This helps to minimize fallout. I have quite a few e.l.f. eyeshadow brushes and for the amount of money ($1 – $3 usually) they are amazing.

EYESHADOW

Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows

Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows

Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows

Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows

I’ve bought at least 9 of the Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows and I’d probably buy more if I could remember what I don’t have. When they first came out I became obsessed with them and ordered from their website. Now they are more easily available and you can almost always find a better price on them. My favorite shades Bella Chiffon, Bella Champagne, Bella Espresso and Bella Khaki.

Jane eyeshadows in River Rock, Sage and Olive Branch

Jane eyeshadows in River Rock, Sage and Olive Branch

Jane eyeshadows in River Rock, Sage and Olive Branch

Jane eyeshadows in River Rock, Sage and Olive Branch

No one ever talks about Jane Cosmetics which is a shame because this resurrected line has some excellent products. The eyeshadows are especially nice since they are well pigmented and last nicely with a primer. I chose 3 shimmer shades but they aren’t over the top with shimmer. Depending on how I apply them they can be almost metallic. There are 45 shades available at $8 each. Ulta may carry them at a store though they aren’t online there. I also bought some of the cream eyeshadows and I like those but I prefer these powder ones.

When it comes to a simple fast look there’s nothing like an eyeshadow crayon for me. L’Oreal Infallible Eye Crayons are beautiful but they are more expensive than a drugstore product should be so look for a sale. I have Impressive Brown and Enduring Rose which work well together or separately. Rimmel Eyeshadow Stick/Crayon comes in a lot of bright beautiful shades. I have it in Bulletproof Beige which is closer to a golden shade than beige. (My swatch picture disappeared!)

BLUSH

Believe it or not, Maybelline Master Glaze Blush Sticks are the only drugstore brand blushes I own. I love a good cream blush and these fit the bill at the right price. Pink Fever is a very bright pink that reminds me of Radiant Orchid while Just Pinched Pink is really an apricot shade to my eye.

That’s it – ten of my favorite recent products from the drugstore. I’d love to know which of these you like and what you buy yourself, so spill the beans! — Marcia
