Shine, Plump and Beautify with Mally Lip Magnifiers

mally lip magnifier

Let me entice you in the same way that Mally Beauty enticed me. We were sent 3 of the mally-nificent Evercolor Lip Magnifiers to test out and they are right up my alley. For the month of August Mally has these on sale from $20 to $15 so you don’t want to miss out.

Mally Lip Magnifier

Mally Lip Magnifier

I’m a huge fan of lip crayons. I like the one step use of these. I like something easy, I like something that lasts better than a gloss, yet I like a luminous finish. I like flavorless lip color and a wide range of shades. Mally put all of those into one handy crayon form and she created this in 12 great colors (13 on ulta.com but the sale isn’t there). These are lip plumpers that are a combination of lipstick and gloss.

While Mally Beauty says that the color will last all day, you know that your mileage may vary. It lasts on me for about 2 hours without eating but I’m the type that bites my lips.

At first when I looked at Princess Pink and Pink Petal I thought they’d be very much alike on my lips but they are each distinct. Princess Pink is my favorite, it’s a beautiful light pink that isn’t a nude. It’s cool toned and lively without being too dark. I think it’s the glossiest of the 3 I have. I L.O.V.E. this lip magnifier!

Princess Pink

Princess Pink

Pink Petal is appropriately named since it’s a light warm pink. It’s the easiest shade for me to wear since I don’t like to emphasize my small lips.

Frisky Fuchsia is also appropriately named. It is frisky. It shows up! There’s nothing shy about this baby. When I first apply it, it’s too bright but it calms down so that I won’t scare the people that know I like light lips. It’s not a shade I wear often. When Frisky Fuchsia wears away it leaves a stain behind that the other two don’t.

If you are a fan of lip crayons then this is your opportunity to get these non-fragranced, lightly plumping colors for yourself. Your lips won’t plump like a Kardashian’s but they will bring out a better you. — Marcia

Top Ten Tuesday’s lip crayon and lip liner loves

Top 10 Lip Crayons and Lip Liners

Top Ten Tuesday has picked my favorite lip products to review this week. I love love love lip crayons. I have oodles of them. I wanted to show a variety of brands and of course once I was all done I thought of a few more. We may just have a part two on Beauty Info Zone. With lip liners, I only have a few brands I like so it was easier to whittle those down to size. The reason I love lip crayons so much is because they are so easy to use. I have several lip crayons in my purse all the time. I can apply them without a mirror if they aren’t too dark. Thank you Top 10 Tuesday for letting me share my favorites!

Pur Minerals Lip Gloss Stick in Berry Pretty* is a cross between a berry and a mauve. I love all of the Pur Minerals Lip Gloss Sticks ($15) but this started as my favorite and 6 months later it remains that way. It’s a “my lips but better” shade once it’s on. Plus it’s not my typical nude lip so I look more alive. It’s got a beautiful glossy finish.

Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Naked is darker than I consider something naked to be. I bought it after reading the description from Sephora “nude pink sheen” but I don’t consider it nude or pink. I still like it, don’t get me wrong, it’s just darker than I expected. This has the most incredible glossy look to it. I love the one step use of a lipstick/gloss like this. I really want to try it in Love Child ($20).

Ardency Inn Americana Natural Lip Color in Bowery is one I featured in the nude lip Makeup Wars. I just couldn’t leave it out since it’s such a great lip crayon. On my lips it’s a nude peach shade but on others it might have a more pink undertone. I was sad when I was at Sephora last since I wanted to test other shades but the line isn’t in my store. This wears a long time since it’s slighty dewy but not really glossy. ($23)

Hourglass Femme Nude Stylo in No3 is another repeat. My lips find the pink in this nude shade. It’s the most matte of all on my Top Ten list. ($30)

Tarte Power Pigment in True Love* is one of 8 Power Pigments. I could have used all 8 plus 2 of the older LipSurgences and been done but that’s not fair to my collection. So I chose True Love since it’s a fabulous light rose shade. It’s glossy without having a wet look. Tarte knows lip crayons!! ($24)

Ilia Lipstick Crayon in Call Me is actually lighter on my lips than in my swatch. It was inspired by the cult movie Pretty in Pink and is a youthful shade. Ilia isn’t a brand that’s talked about much but the items I’ve bought from them have been great. Here’s a bit about them: “A prestige line of natural and organic beauty products that combine superior color performance and nourishing organics. All ILIA products are made with up to 85% certified organic ingredients that nourish the skin and help aid in its repair.” ($24)

Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in Craving Coral ($14) is one of my best buys. I love this fat crayon because it feels so moisturizing on my lips. It has a slight touch of mint to it so I find it refreshing. While my swatch looks coral I find it to be sheerer and softer on my lips. I definitely want more of these.

LAQA & CO Fat Lip Pencil in Wolfman was in one of my subscription boxes. It’s by far the lightest of the lip crayons I have so it’s good for a quick “almost-no-makeup-day”. I’m not sure how a sweet pink like this got the name Wolfman! ($18)

Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencils in 2C and 15C ($19)* are fantastic lipliners in general but even better for summertime. These are waterproof so they are great to use as a lip base for long lasting color. 2C is named Rosewood and it’s described as a rosy nude. 15C is named Pink and is described as a vibrant pink. Both will make your summer lips last but you’ll have trouble picking from the 25 shades.

IT Cosmetics Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lip Liner Stain* in Romantic Rose and Pretty in Pink ($20)are actually moisturizing lip liners. As with all IT Cosmetics they are loaded with anti-aging properties. They have a built in sharpener too. Romantic Rose is a deep rose that’s beautiful on its own although I like it with a lighter lipstick over it. Pretty in Pink is a pretty pink just like the name says. It’s not always easy to find a great pink lip liner but you can count on this one.

Are any of your favorites in my list? I’m always in the market for lip crayons so share your favorites. — Marcia

Makeup Wars loves Nude lippies

Makeup Wars and Top Ten Tuesdays have tempted you with pink lips, peach and coral lips, red lips but never true nudes. Now’s the time though and I was ready for this challenge. Most of my collection is nude lips. It got to the point that I had so many that I had to force myself not to buy new ones unless I was absolutely desperate for them. I was once a MACaholic and I’d buy every rendition of nude they had – and then I’d wear them twice and put them aside. I haven’t chosen any MAC to share with you since I don’t seem to grab for them anymore so instead you’ll see some of my favorites from other brands.

Nude lips are interesting because they all have different undertones plus what I consider nude might be too light for you depending on your skintone.

Makeup Wars lip crayons: Ardency Inn, Tarte (x2), Hourglass

Makeup Wars lip crayons: Ardency Inn, Tarte (x2), Hourglass

I’m a big fan of lip crayons but nude ones don’t overpopulate my collection. Ardency Inn Bowery, tarte exposed and Hourglass Nude No 3 are the ones I usually crave.

Hourglass Nude No3 and Ardency Inn Bowery

Hourglass Nude No3 and Ardency Inn Bowery

I bought Hourglass Femme Nude Stylo No3 because everyone was raving about these. Hourglass has an amazing reputation and these Nude lip crayons made beauty lovers so excited. No3 is described as “medium rose nude with hint of pink”. This has a pink undertone but it’s very light once on my lips, not medium to my eyes.

top Hourglass, bottom Ardency Inn

top Hourglass, bottom Ardency Inn

ARDENCY INN AMERICANA Natural Lip Color Pencil in Bowery was my next buy. These are $23 compared to the $30 of Hourglass so that made me happy. ARDENCY INN lip crayons seem to be truer nude shades too. Bowery is a light peach on my lips even though Sephora tells me that it’s a “light nude with pink undertones”. It just isn’t pink on me but it is pretty and I’m very comfortable in it. The consistency is smoother and a little more glossy than Hourglass.

tarte exposed - old vs new versions

tarte exposed – old vs new versions

Tarte Exposed was one of the colors saved when tarte revamped all their lip crayons. Tarte still sells LipSurgence but I didn’t find Exposed. The original fat crayon has a matte finish while the new tarte exposed is a glossier finish. The new pencils are called Power Pigments and Exposed is described as “nude with pink undertones”.

tarte exposed original version and new Power Pigment

tarte exposed original version and new Power Pigment

Power Pigment in exposed is glossier and slightly more pink while the original is definitely a matte on me and a little darker. Can’t go wrong with either but there is a slight difference between the two.

6 lipsticks made the cut for Makeup Wars: Tom Ford Pink Dune, Lunasol 25, Armani Shine 17, Gosh Darling, Armani 103, Shiseido RS701

GOSH Darling

GOSH Darling

GOSH Darling was a lipstick that everyone had to have. It was so hot on boards like Makeup Alley that you felt like you didn’t belong there if you didn’t own it.

Gosh Darling

Gosh Darling

I finally got it and was shocked at how much it looks like concealer. It’s so light and so beige that I couldn’t get it to show in a single swatch photo. I couldn’t resist putting this in even though it’s not a favorite, I’m including it for shock value.

Armani Shine 17, Lunasol 25, Armani 103

Armani Shine 17, Lunasol 25, Armani 103

These are the lipsticks that I reach for when I want moisturized lips with beautiful nude shades. Armani in particular makes outstanding nude colors for lips and I think they are among the finest lipsticks available. I get a little overwhelmed at an Armani counter because I want too much. All of these lipsticks were bought long ago.

Rouge d’Armani in 103 is my newest Armani and still available. 103 is the pink nude that I love to wear. It looks beige in the tube but once on it picks up pink.

Rouge d'Armani 103 (nordstrom.com)

Rouge d’Armani 103 (nordstrom.com)

Armani Shine 17 is an oldie but goodie. It’s more sheer than 103 but just as glossy.

LUNASOL 25 is also an older lipstick and I doubt it’s still for sale. Lunasol lipsticks were introduced to me by an old friend. I’d go nuts cosmetic shopping in Japan or Singapore! I have 2 LUNASOL lipsticks and they are so wonderfully creamy. They have a very similar consistency and look to the Armani ones I love.

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune barely has any color on my lips but that doesn’t stop me from loving it. It was a limited edition shade that I bought in the early winter but didn’t really wear at first. It felt too nude for winter but I can wear it now. Sometimes I’ll put it over another lipstick to ‘nude’ it up a bit.

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

I had to include Shiseido RS701 even though it’s not available. This was my first Shiseido lipstick and it reminds me of shopping with my blog partner Lisa. It’s one of my favorite lipstick buys. It’s a pink nude (RS stands for Rose) that has the perfect depth for me.

Makeup Wars loves peach and coral lip colors

Welcome to a new Makeup Wars celebrating peach and coral lip shades. We know that spring is the best time to bring out our prettiest lip colors. I’m not a big coral lip lover but some corals are light enough for me. What I do love though are peach shades and peachy pink shades. My list today contains some of those favorites plus 2 wishlist items.
1. MAKE COSMETICS Flesh lipgloss and Deep Flesh lipstick are the first two shades I pulled when I was deciding on this list. Deep Flesh lipstick is on the dark side for me but with Flesh lipgloss on top it’s the epitome of springness.*
2. MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick in N37 is described as an iridescent icy coral. I love the sheerness of this shade and that it has a touch of pink to the coral. It glistens!
3. TARTE LIPSURGENCE LIP TINTS are favorites in all of the shades. I love tarte lip crayons and especially Tipsy and Fearless. Tipsy (3rd swatch) is a beautiful coral that’s not too dark while Fearless (4th swatch) is a peachy pink coral.*
4. BEAUTE’ COSMETICS LUMINOUS VOLUME GLOSS IN CHIMERA has long been one of my favorite glosses. I bought most of the Beaute’ glosses when they first became available and they are ones I reach for often. Chimera is an iridescent salmon pink.
5. ARDENCY INN NATURAL LIP PENCIL IN BOWERY is described as a light nude with pink undertones but it’s actually a peach both on my hand and lips. These pencils from Ardency Inn are similar to the nudes of Hourglass but a little smoother and less expensive.
6. BEAUTE COSMETICS LUMINOUS VOLUME GLOSS IN ELITIST is another of my favorites from Beaute. Elitist is described as a sophisticated tawny shade. I wear it when I’ve chosen warm shades and want a beautiful peach shade.
7. NARS TASMANIA LIPGLOSS is a wishlist item. Of all the new Nars shades I’ve seen Tasmania’s pink cantaloupe shade is the one I’m most drawn to and will pick up once it’s at Sephora.
8. BITE BEAUTY HIGH PIGMENT PENCIL IN BOUQUET is another wishlist item. Since it’s a matte shade (and not the one shown in my beauty set unfortunately) I want to test it first to make sure I like the look. I know I like the color!

Tarte part two – learn more about the new Cheek Stains and Power Pigment Lip

tarte Cheek Stains and Power Pigment Lips

tarte Cheek Stains and Power Pigment Lips

We are so excited to be able to share these new tarte Cheek Stains and Power Pigment LipSurgences with you. When tarte sent these along both Lisa and I were thrilled with the beautiful colors. Yesterday Lisa shared her 4 choices and today I’m going to regale you with the reminder. I’m not quite sure how you as a consumer will pick from these fabulous shades.

tarte Cheek Stains

tarte Cheek Stains

tarte Power Pigments

tarte Power Pigments

Let’s talk about Cheek Stains first. The very first product that Maureen Kelly, founder of Tarte, created was a Cheek Stain which is now called Flush. Her brand took off from there. Fifteen years later tarte decided to repackage these so that each shade is special on its own.  7 of these 8 Cheek Stains are from the previous line but one new one, Blushing Bride, has been added to celebrate their being around for 15 years!

Almost all of the cheek stains are a gel formula. Just one is a cream formula, Natural Beauty. The way to tell is to look at the tops of brand new Cheek Stains, a rounded top tells you it’s a gel, a flat top tells you it’s a cream.

In addition to the Cheek Stains there is a matching powder blush and a matching Power Pigment LipSurgence. Tarte has tied in all these together to let you have your choice of the type of blush you prefer and a lip crayon that works perfectly with each one.

Tarte Cheek Stains: Blushing Bride, Exposed, Tipsy, Fearless

Blushing Bride is the newest Cheek Stain so if you already have a collection of these then this is the one for you to add. According to Tarte the shade is a rosy pink, according to Sephora it’s a plummy rose. Whichever description fits is just fine because it’s a beautiful rose that is I find to be more pink than plum. It’s creamy and it blends beautifully. By nature the Cheek Stains are a little tacky but less so than they used to be. Give it time and it dries down to the shade you’d love on your cheeks if you were a bride.

Exposed is the hardest one to capture in photographs. In real life it looks like there’s a lot of brown to it but it’s actually a nude pink that is the most natural looking (in my opinion) of all the shades. This came out originally under the name Awakening. Exposed Power Pigment for lips is the kind of color I wear all the time so this one is going to be finished the quickest.

Tarte Exposed

Tipsy is the perfect spring coral. It’s sheer so it’s not overwhelming. It’s a little darker than my other shades. The Power Pigment has been begging me for warmer weather.

Fearless is my favorite although it’s really hard to pick a favorite. But it just calls to me in its pink coral gloriness. I think it’s because it’s the easiest to wear with any eye that I’m wearing. The Power Pigment Lip brightens my lips without making me feel like my lips are screaming “this is dark”.

I know I’ve been going on forever but I n.e.e.d. to talk about the new lip crayons. Tarte still has most of their LipSurgence crayons. They make 7 that are LipSurgence Lip Tints and are a hybrid between a stain, a balm and a gloss. They have 6 shades of the LipSurgence Matte Lip Tints which are very hydrating but have a matte finish. In addition there are 2 that are called LipSurgence Hydrating Lip Creme. So they haven’t abandoned one of my all time favorite lip product, they’ve just added to them with 8 gorgeous shades.

I’m thrilled to have these in my LipSurgence collection. They still have that minty freshness and are automatic making sharpening unnecessary.

Now for the moment of truth, which of these will you be choosing to complete your makeup collection? Will it be the slightly darker shades from Part 1 or will you go with the lighter shades in Part 2? We’ll respect your choices since we had a hard time deciding ourselves. — Marcia

New tarte Cheek Stains and Power Pigments, part one

tarte Cheek Stains

tarte Cheek Stains

The iconic Cheek Stains are the gel/cream blushes that first fostered tarte cosmetics amazing reputation for cutting edge, quality products. Not only does tarte have 8 new Cheek Stain ($30) shades, they also have matching Power Pigments ($24), pencil lip tints with tons of color and lots of shine. Today, I have reviews and swatches of four shades:  Blissful, Flush, Natural Beauty, and True Love. Tomorrow Marcia will have her review and swatches of the other four: Tipsy, Exposed, Fearless, and Blushing Bride.

Tarte’s Cheek Stains are gel (with one exception that’s cream) blushes that give a ‘glow from within’ look. They come in a push-up container and are usually applied straight onto the cheeks. They go on a little wet, with quite a bit of play time to blend perfectly before drying down to a lasting, natural looking flush. Not only do they look beautiful, they are also great for the skin. They have five superfruits that are full of antioxidants to fight free radicals, including maracuja, goji, açaí, acerola, and pomegranate. These superfruits have tons of Vitamin C that brightens skin and moisturizes dry areas.

tarte Power Pigments

tarte Power Pigments

The matching Power Pigments are extremely moisturizing and they quench dry lips while also healing them with antioxidants. In addition the color is fabulous thanks to that powerful pigment and the thinner pencil allows for a more precise application than is normally found with lip crayons. Ingredients include Vitamin E for antioxidant power; shea butter for emollience, and canauba wax for a super smooth application.

I tend to be drawn toward darker shades while Marcia prefers lighter ones, so today is all about berries and reds (well, one peach shade snuck in there!!)

Blissful

Blissful Power Pigment and Cheek Stain

Blissful swatches

Blissful swatches

Blissful is the lovely warm peach shade that snuck its way into the shades I chose to review. This is the lightest of my four today and it is a very soft, pretty peach that doesn’t lean too brown. The cheek stain is better suited to lighter skin tones, but the lippie will work for anyone who wants a warm peach without a ton of drama.

Flushed

Flush Power Pigment and Cheek Stain

Flushed swatches

Flush is a sheer berry shade. This is the shade that first drew me to the tarte line so many years ago! I find this shade is very natural. It looks like you just came in from a chilly day or a quick run. I love it.

Natural

Natural Beauty Power Pigment and Cheek Stain

Natural swatches

Natural Beauty swatches

Natural Beauty is a sheer rosy red shade. This is the only cream cheek stain in the bunch, which is why it has a difference appearance – the others have a rounded top, while this one is decidedly flat. The texture is different as well. It doesn’t go on as wet and the coverage is much less sheer for the cheek stain. The Power Pigment has the same texture, shine, and staying power as the other lippies. I think this fresh, healthy-looking shade is my most favorite of them all.

tarte True Love

True Love Power Pigment and Cheek Stain

True Love swatches

True Love swatches

True Love is a sheer watermelon shade. While the Cheek Stain looks incredibly dark, it goes on quite sheer and natural looking. The Power Pigment is certainly a deeper shade and they complement one another beautifully.

These four new tarte shades are all winners in my book and they all get tons of play from me. I love the matching cheek and lip colors – all of the lip shades are deeper versions of the cheek shades, making simply perfect mates for one another. If you prefer lighter shades, be sure to stay tuned for Marcia’s review tomorrow!  – Lisa

Pur Minerals Lip Gloss Sticks are so berry pretty

Pur Mineral Lip Gloss Sticks

Pur Mineral Lip Gloss Sticks

I’m about to review something and then tell you to buy something different. Yes, I’m crazy like that. My review is for 4 different Pur Minerals Lip Gloss Sticks that I was sent to review. I’ve been using them so much that I forgot that I was supposed to write about them. They’ve just become part of my daily life. When I went to do a little research I found that Pur Minerals had come out with a fabulous set that includes 3 shades of these Lip Gloss Sticks plus 3 shades of eyeshadow sticks in a set called Show Off. One Lip Gloss Stick sells for $15, the set is $28. Now do you see why I’m telling you this?

Pur Minerals Lip Gloss Sticks

Pur Minerals Lip Gloss Sticks

Let’s go backwards a little. Pur Minerals Lip Gloss Sticks are terrific if you like easy to use, non-sticky lip products, sheer lip color that you can build up and lips that are moisturized.

They are very lightly fragranced; I’m not one for fragrance in facial products but they don’t bother me in the least. I’m so busy feeling how much softer and conditioned my lips feel that that’s all I care about.  I will put one on when I’m sitting alone at the computer at night just because it feels so good on my lips. You don’t have to worry about sharpening these since you just wind these chubby lip gloss sticks up and you are done.

The 8 colors these come in are: Honey Pie, Coraline, Berry Pretty, Rum Raisin, Beach Bum, Daredevil, Spiked Punch and Game Day. When you hover your mouse over the color names on the order page you’ll see the Lip Gloss Stick change so you can get an idea of the color.

The Show Off Kit has totally different shades which I bet are just as pretty: Pucker (light pink), Fling (misty mauve) and Taunt (raspberry) for lips and Exposed (vanilla cream), Unveiled (gold shimmer) and Staged (toasted raisin) for eyes.

Pur Minerals Show Off

Pur Minerals Show Off

Pur Minerals Show Off set (3 eye crayons, 3 lip crayons)

Pur Minerals Show Off set (3 eye crayons, 3 lip crayons)

I’ve been a fan of pencil type lip products for a long time. I find them to be easy to use and mess free. These are different than most of the ones I have since they are more of a lip gloss than lip stick. Even though Pur Minerals describes them as being vibrant colors, I don’t find them to be nearly as vibrant as a lipstick is. The shades I have aren’t in the kit so maybe you’ll decide to buy one or more of these instead.

Rum Raisin is the darkest of the 4 shades I have. It looks dark in the packaging but not on my lips. I was sure I wouldn’t be using this color but I was wrong. Once on it just deepens my natural lip color and looks glossy yet sheer.

Pur Minerals Rum Raisin

Berry Pretty is my favorite of the group. It is berry pretty indeed. It looks like a “my lips but better” shade on me while it emphasizes the rosiness in my lips.

Honey Pie is a nude that’s not really nude. It has a warm undertone and a natural lip color at the same time.

Pur Minerals Honey Pie

Pur Minerals Honey Pie

Coralline is just too pretty for words. When I think of the color coral I usually think of a reddish orange. Coralline is a pinkish orange, heavy on the pink side of orange. This is the one that brightens my lips the most. It’s a very happy shade that’s not dark so it’s easy for me to wear.

Whether you go for the bargain of the Show Off Kit or a single Pur Minerals Lip Gloss Stick, you should consider these for your lip wardrobe. If I had to pick just one I’d pick Berry Pretty but I’m enjoying all 4 of these shades. Pur Minerals is widely available at Ulta and websites like Ulta.com, zappos.com, kohls.com. If I got that Show Off set in my stocking, I’d definitely be showing off. Do you have any favorites? — Marcia
