More beauty from Hikari Cosmetics – eyes, lips, and cheeks, oh my!

Last Sunday, Marcia shared her beautiful Hikari products with you – the Jennifer Eyeshadow Palette, Iris Liquid Eyeliner, and Final Touch HD Powder.  This week I have more Hikari to love!  I tested the Jahren Eyeshadow Quad ($15), the Island Glow Blush ($15) and the Fireside Lip Crayon ($13).

Hikari Jahren Eyeshadow Quad

Hikari Jahren Eyeshadow Quad swatches

Jahren Eyeshadow Quad has two satin shadows and two matte shadows.  The names are Sage, Almond, Sable, and Magnetic.  I know which one is Sage, but the others I am not sure about – so I will just go in order top to bottom clockwise!  Top left is Sage, which is a gorgeous satin sage green.  This is a beautiful shade that is especially nice with hazel eyes.  I love it swept underneath bottom lashes – actually a trick Scott Barnes taught me many years ago with a similar shade of green he used to carry.  Next to the green shade is a pretty satin taupe shade.  Love this as a crease or lid shade.  The bottom row has the matte shades, first a light cream that is a great brow shade.  I also use it as an all over wash on days I am in a hurry.  Next to it is a deep chocolate-brown that is perfect for the crease or as a liner.

Hikari Island Glow Blush

Hikari Island Glow Blush swatch

The Hikari Island Glow Blush is a beautiful blush or bronzer.  I wear it as a blush on my low maintenance days, but typically I use it more as a contour.  I sweep it under my cheekbones then put a peachy/pink shade on the apples of my cheeks.  In the FOD pic below I am wearing only Island Glow.  It does give skin a nice glow and it’s tough to overdo this flattering peachy brown.  The Hikari blushes come in nine different shades and I would love to try some of the other shades because I find the texture is great and it really wears well.

Hiraki Fireside Lip Crayon

Hiraki Fireside Lip Crayon swatch

The Hikari Fireside Lip Crayon is really beautiful.  I wasn’t sure I could pull off such a bright color, but I just love this!  Fireside is a matte reddish pink that has some slip.  I put this on and it lasts quite a while.  Most reds turn pink on me, and this is no exception – it leans pink quickly.  It might be different for you based on your body chemistry.  I love the formula, the pigmentation, and the wear.  The Lip Crayons come in ten different shades and I am totally up for trying more of these!

Makeup Wars and lipstick = perfect combinations

Makeup Wars is always a fun time because you get to see what many bloggers enjoy in one topic. When you mention lipstick or liquid lipstick or lip gloss to a blogger you get some happy women. I’m sharing some of my recent acquisitions to see if there are colors or brands that will make your lips and heart go pitter patter.

Models Own, PUR Cosmetics, Jane Iredale

Not to play favorites but it’s typical to like some colors and formulas better than others and one that really has my attention is Jane Iredale PlayOn Lip Crayon in Hot. I love easy and to me lip crayons are easy personified.

Jane Iredale PlayOn Lip Crayon in Hot

Jane Iredale PlayOn Lip Crayons are available in 7 shades. They are so creamy and just glide on. There’s no fragrance or scent to these and they are cruelty free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, phthalate-free, and oil-free. I don’t normally choose a red lip but Hot can be applied with different intensities to make it look more of a pinky red.

Jane Iredale PlayOn Lip Crayon in Hot

These are moisturizing, nourished with Vitamin E, and make my lips feel comfortable. I can add a gloss over it for more fun. I may be showcasing this in summer but it’s going to be an all year round lippie for me.

Next up PUR Cosmetics has two formulas I’ve worn this summer: Velvet Matte and Chrome Glaze. They are as different as night and day but each has its special attributes.

PUR Cosmetics Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick and Chrome Glaze Lip Gloss

PUR Cosmetics Velvet Matte has a mousse like texture so it’s not as drying as I find many matte lipsticks to be. While it’s definitely a matte on my lips it feels very pliable and my lips don’t shrivel up. I have this in Obsessed which is considered a soft pink, it’s not a pastel though. Any time I wear a liquid matte I have to take my time to apply my lips since it’s not slapdash. A liner helps keep it in place so I don’t make mistakes.

PUR Cosmetics Velvet Matte in Obsessed

PUR Cosmetics also has Chrome Glaze High Shine Lip Glosses and this is more my style. I have this in Heartbreaker and it’s an amazing shade for me. I can wear this gel formula alone or even better apply it over my Velvet Matte lip for shiny beauty.

PUR Cosmetics Chrome Glaze in Heartbreaker

PUR describes Heartbreaker as “perfect pink” and it is the perfect pink for me. Not too bright, not too pale, just right! It’s a longer lasting gloss formula but like all glosses it’s going to have to be reapplied.

PUR Cosmetics Obsessed Velvet Matte and Heartbreaker Chrome Glaze

I don’t know how long PUR’s special lasts but using the code LIPSTICK can get you 3 lip products for $20 so that’s a deal you want to hop on.

As you may know ULTA has enhanced their stores and website with some amazing new brands. One of those brands is Model’s Own. This British brand has stormed the US with some innovative products. The prices are great so it’s a fun brand to explore.

Models Own LIX Matte Liquid Lipstick in Strawberry Mojito and Raspberry Mojito

Model’s Own LIX Matte Liquid Lipstick comes in 6 shades for only $7.99 each. If you love matte you’ll love Model’s Own. It’s the mattest of any matte I’ve ever tried. It has a minty fragrance to it that I find refreshing but there is a tingle with it that you’ll notice for a few minutes. Make sure your lips are exfoliated before wearing LIX since something this matte is going to show everything. The smoother your lips are, the better Models Own LIX will apply.

Models Own LIX Matte Liquid Lipstick in Strawberry Mojito and Raspberry Mojito

I love the packaging of these. It surely attracts attention. They also have some heft to them. Strawberry Mojito is a bright red on me with orange undertones, I mostly see the red once on. Raspberry Mojito is a dark berry on my lips though it swatches with more purple. LIX are very intense on me. You have to really like a bold matte lip to appreciate these two shades.

Models Own LIX Matte Liquid Lipstick in Strawberry Mojito and Raspberry Mojito

I’m going to put a plug in for Eddie Funkhouser Hyperreal Nourishing Lipsticks that I just reviewed since these are the lipsticks I’m getting a lot of use out of this summer. Plus I have a giveaway going on so you could win some!

Paula’s Choice Skincare Berry and Bright Lip Collection

I love holiday lip colors – deep pinks, berries, and plums. They are fun and just so festive! A collection I am loving that is definitely holiday perfect is the new limited edition Berry & Bright Lip Collection ($45) from Paula’s Choice.

Paula's Choice Skincare Berry and Bright Lip Collection

Paula’s Choice Skincare Berry and Bright Lip Collection

True confession – while I am a big Paula fan (and have been since the 1990’s, that’s how OLD I am), I’ve never liked any of her lip products. I am also not a huge fan of lip crayons…I’m more of a lip gloss lover. However…I like these, I really like these!! The four chubby lip crayons are in festive shades: Currant, a traditional medium red; Plum, a deep purple/red; Winterberry, a pink/red; and Sugar, a pink opalescent. Sugar is great alone or over the other three matte shades to lighten them up and give some depth.

Paula's Choice Skincare Berry and Bright Lip Collection

Paula's Choice Skincare Berry and Bright Lip Collection

So why do I love these when lip pencils aren’t really my thing?  Six reasons:

1.  These have NO scent and NO taste. What else would you expect from Paula??

2.  The chubby pencils twist up so there is no sharpening involved and no special sharpener needed.

3.  While the lippies go on smooth and satiny, they have TONS of pigment and the stain lasts and lasts. In fact, if you aren’t into bold color be careful applying!

4.  They don’t dry out my lips! Awesome for matte stains.

5.  Sugar is amazing. It really makes the set even more versatile – it’s like getting 7 colors, not 4.

6.  This makes four awesome gifts if you want to break up the set – about $12 for a very large lippie that will last a long time.

Berry & Bright Lip Collection is perfect for holiday lips…really for any season. It gets a big thumbs up from me!!  If you are new to Paula’s Choice, click HERE for $10 off your first order (which also gives me a refer a friend credit!) – Lisa

MOODmatchers Twist Sticks to brighten your mood

What goes around comes around. One of the newest fashion crazes is fanny packs. Did you used to wear one? Did you think it was a wonderful fashion statement? Well they are back and Shopbop has some great looking ones from $17 to $395 so you know they are in style again. Did you ever have a mood ring? Did it work? I had one and it was a fun diversion. Those are back too!

Mood ring from amazon.com

What’s never gone away though are lipsticks that change with your chemistry. I received 3 Fran Wilson MOODmatcher Twist Sticks and they take me back to the future. These are such an interesting twist on most lip crayons as you’ll see.

Fran Wilson Moodmatcher Twist Sticks

Fran Wilson Moodmatcher Twist Sticks

There are 6 shades of the Fran Wilson MOODmatcher Twist Sticks and they are long lasting colors that are great for when you need your lip color to last and last. When applied they go on lighter than the final results you’ll end up with. I found that it took about an hour for them to fully develop. What looks dark on me though may look lighter on you because of your personal chemistry.

On the box there’s a picture of what the shade will look like but I found that that’s how it appeared upon first application. The shades all turned darker on me with time. These are called 12 Hour Lip Color and they really do last. It does fade but it didn’t leave any “ring around the rosey” lines for me. After a few hours I applied my Burt’s Bees lip balm and the color mellowed out and remained as a stain. My lips were comfortable all day.

When it came to my mood the Dark Pink changed the most. It started off pink but became more fuchsia after an hour. The Red just deepened and didn’t change as much. Light Blue was the lightest of the three and didn’t turn as much as Dark Pink but still not a light lipstick. After the freshness of applying, they all settled into a stained look that later welcomed a lip balm. MOODmatchers are hydrating and vitamin enriched. And they stick around after some smooching.

This is a fun product to carry around with you since these Twist Sticks don’t have to be sharpened, just twist them up when you want more of the color to show. And at $8 each they are priced well enough to have several.

The claims that MOODmatchers makes are real except that I found it developed more as time went on. Whatever your vibe is, I think there’s going to be a MOODmatcher Twist Stick for you. Are you thinking Christmas stockings when you look at these? Think of the fun someone will have opening a blue or yellow lip crayon? — Marcia

Pixi Pixi Pixi – how you complete me

Pixi Beauty products you need

Pixi Beauty products you need

Pixi Beauty continues to surprise and delight me with the products that they send. These 5 cosmetics will bring you brighter skin, gorgeous nails, and lips & eyes that shine. All of these will give you a special glow.

Pixi Glow Mist

Pixi Glow Mist

Pixi Glow is almost a cult product. It’s one of the most popular products that Pixi Beauty has created. They’ve taken it one step forward now and created Pixi by Petra Glow Mist. This mist works with Pixi Glow but it’s a totally separate product. Its goal is to give you an all-over glow for a radiant, dewy effect. It’s a spray that really works. You can use this before makeup to hydrate, protect and nourish your skin. Or use it after makeup to add a dewy finish. Plus you can use it any time you want to refresh your makeup look and add that wonderful glow. At $15 for this 2.7 oz bottle you’ve got yourself a reasonably priced winner.

Pixi Beauty Fairy Dust in Olive Gold

Pixi Beauty Fairy Dust in Olive Gold

Pixi Beauty makes a pigment product that they call Fairy Dust ($10). There are two new shades added to this collection and they are beauties. First is Olive Gold which I knew I’d love before I even opened the package. Olive Gold is described as “vintage gilded moss shimmer” and that alone made me want it on my eyes instantly. I have brown eyes and I think that the gold with an undertone of green makes for an especially pretty eye.

Pixi Olive Gold Fairy Dust

Pixi Olive Gold Fairy Dust

Another new shade is Silver Glow which is described as “Satin silver with a lavender-gold sheen”.

Pixi Fairy Dust in Silver Glow

Pixi Fairy Dust in Silver Glow

Pixi Fairy Dust in Silver Glow

Pixi Fairy Dust in Silver Glow

I bet that reading the name Silver Glow sounded a bit scary since silver isn’t the easiest shade to pull off once you are over your twenties. But silver that isn’t metallic is a beautiful shade and this has that touch of lavender and drop of gold to make it gleam.

The sponge applicator doesn’t apply on my eyes smoothly so I take their recommendation of using a fluffy brush and use this all over my eyelid as a wash. If I want to get more dramatic I’ll use a mixing medium to darken the silver or I’ll use a charcoal or black in the outer crease.

Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in Lucent Glow

Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in Lucent Glow

While not a new product Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in Lucent Glow ($14) is a new shade for me. Actually it’s not really a shade, you don’t want to wear this alone, or at least I don’t. I love Pixi’s lip crayons because they hydrate, are easy to apply, and look good. Lucent Glow is a very light luminous rose gold shimmer in a translucent pink base. This goes well with the theme of GLOW for February’s products. This will look good all year round though and bring a lift to any lipsticks you happen to be wearing.

Pixi Beauty Amethyst Amore nail polish

Pixi Beauty Amethyst Amore nail polish

For me the star of the show is Pixi’s Amethyst Amore nail polish. I can’t even begin to tell you how many people took my hand over the week I wore this to look at this fabulous deep blue-violet shade. Amethyst Amore is well named since it was instant ‘amore’ with this polish. Pixi wears beautifully on me, lasting a week with no problem.

Pixi Amethyst Amore

Pixi Amethyst Amore

I’ve raved about Pixi many times before and products like these will keep me raving and talking about their virtues. All 5 of these are being used and will continue to be used by me with amore. — Marcia

Pixi Beauty is available at their website as well as at Target stores. These products will be available March 5 at stores but to be assured of getting the products I want though I rely on Pixibeauty.com.

Shine, Plump and Beautify with Mally Lip Magnifiers

mally lip magnifier

Let me entice you in the same way that Mally Beauty enticed me. We were sent 3 of the mally-nificent Evercolor Lip Magnifiers to test out and they are right up my alley. For the month of August Mally has these on sale from $20 to $15 so you don’t want to miss out.

Mally Lip Magnifier

Mally Lip Magnifier

I’m a huge fan of lip crayons. I like the one step use of these. I like something easy, I like something that lasts better than a gloss, yet I like a luminous finish. I like flavorless lip color and a wide range of shades. Mally put all of those into one handy crayon form and she created this in 12 great colors (13 on ulta.com but the sale isn’t there). These are lip plumpers that are a combination of lipstick and gloss.

While Mally Beauty says that the color will last all day, you know that your mileage may vary. It lasts on me for about 2 hours without eating but I’m the type that bites my lips.

Mally Lip Magnifiers: Princess Pink, Frisky Fuchsia, Pink Petal

At first when I looked at Princess Pink and Pink Petal I thought they’d be very much alike on my lips but they are each distinct. Princess Pink is my favorite, it’s a beautiful light pink that isn’t a nude. It’s cool toned and lively without being too dark. I think it’s the glossiest of the 3 I have. I L.O.V.E. this lip magnifier!

Princess Pink

Princess Pink

Pink Petal is appropriately named since it’s a light warm pink. It’s the easiest shade for me to wear since I don’t like to emphasize my small lips.

Frisky Fuchsia is also appropriately named. It is frisky. It shows up! There’s nothing shy about this baby. When I first apply it, it’s too bright but it calms down so that I won’t scare the people that know I like light lips. It’s not a shade I wear often. When Frisky Fuchsia wears away it leaves a stain behind that the other two don’t.

If you are a fan of lip crayons then this is your opportunity to get these non-fragranced, lightly plumping colors for yourself. Your lips won’t plump like a Kardashian’s but they will bring out a better you. — Marcia

Makeup Wars loves Nude lippies

Makeup Wars and Top Ten Tuesdays have tempted you with pink lips, peach and coral lips, red lips but never true nudes. Now’s the time though and I was ready for this challenge. Most of my collection is nude lips. It got to the point that I had so many that I had to force myself not to buy new ones unless I was absolutely desperate for them. I was once a MACaholic and I’d buy every rendition of nude they had – and then I’d wear them twice and put them aside. I haven’t chosen any MAC to share with you since I don’t seem to grab for them anymore so instead you’ll see some of my favorites from other brands.

Makeup Wars Nude Lip favorites

Nude lips are interesting because they all have different undertones plus what I consider nude might be too light for you depending on your skintone.

Makeup Wars lip crayons: Ardency Inn, Tarte (x2), Hourglass

Makeup Wars lip crayons: Ardency Inn, Tarte (x2), Hourglass

I’m a big fan of lip crayons but nude ones don’t overpopulate my collection. Ardency Inn Bowery, tarte exposed and Hourglass Nude No 3 are the ones I usually crave.

Hourglass Nude No3 and Ardency Inn Bowery

Hourglass Nude No3 and Ardency Inn Bowery

I bought Hourglass Femme Nude Stylo No3 because everyone was raving about these. Hourglass has an amazing reputation and these Nude lip crayons made beauty lovers so excited. No3 is described as “medium rose nude with hint of pink”. This has a pink undertone but it’s very light once on my lips, not medium to my eyes.

top Hourglass, bottom Ardency Inn

top Hourglass, bottom Ardency Inn

ARDENCY INN AMERICANA Natural Lip Color Pencil in Bowery was my next buy. These are $23 compared to the $30 of Hourglass so that made me happy. ARDENCY INN lip crayons seem to be truer nude shades too. Bowery is a light peach on my lips even though Sephora tells me that it’s a “light nude with pink undertones”. It just isn’t pink on me but it is pretty and I’m very comfortable in it. The consistency is smoother and a little more glossy than Hourglass.

tarte exposed - old vs new versions

tarte exposed – old vs new versions

Tarte Exposed was one of the colors saved when tarte revamped all their lip crayons. Tarte still sells LipSurgence but I didn’t find Exposed. The original fat crayon has a matte finish while the new tarte exposed is a glossier finish. The new pencils are called Power Pigments and Exposed is described as “nude with pink undertones”.

tarte exposed original version and new Power Pigment

tarte exposed original version and new Power Pigment

Power Pigment in exposed is glossier and slightly more pink while the original is definitely a matte on me and a little darker. Can’t go wrong with either but there is a slight difference between the two.

Makeup Wars Nude Lipsticks: Tom Ford, Lunasol, Armani, Gosh, Armani, Shiseido

Makeup Wars Nude Lipsticks: Tom Ford, Lunasol, Armani, Gosh, Armani, Shiseido

6 lipsticks made the cut for Makeup Wars: Tom Ford Pink Dune, Lunasol 25, Armani Shine 17, Gosh Darling, Armani 103, Shiseido RS701

GOSH Darling

GOSH Darling

GOSH Darling was a lipstick that everyone had to have. It was so hot on boards like Makeup Alley that you felt like you didn’t belong there if you didn’t own it.

Gosh Darling

Gosh Darling

I finally got it and was shocked at how much it looks like concealer. It’s so light and so beige that I couldn’t get it to show in a single swatch photo. I couldn’t resist putting this in even though it’s not a favorite, I’m including it for shock value.

Armani Shine 17, Lunasol 25, Armani 103

Armani Shine 17, Lunasol 25, Armani 103

These are the lipsticks that I reach for when I want moisturized lips with beautiful nude shades. Armani in particular makes outstanding nude colors for lips and I think they are among the finest lipsticks available. I get a little overwhelmed at an Armani counter because I want too much. All of these lipsticks were bought long ago.

from left: Armani 103, Lunasol 25, Armani Shine 17

Rouge d’Armani in 103 is my newest Armani and still available. 103 is the pink nude that I love to wear. It looks beige in the tube but once on it picks up pink.

Rouge d'Armani 103 (nordstrom.com)

Rouge d’Armani 103 (nordstrom.com)

Armani Shine 17 is an oldie but goodie. It’s more sheer than 103 but just as glossy.

LUNASOL 25 is also an older lipstick and I doubt it’s still for sale. Lunasol lipsticks were introduced to me by an old friend. I’d go nuts cosmetic shopping in Japan or Singapore! I have 2 LUNASOL lipsticks and they are so wonderfully creamy. They have a very similar consistency and look to the Armani ones I love.

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune barely has any color on my lips but that doesn’t stop me from loving it. It was a limited edition shade that I bought in the early winter but didn’t really wear at first. It felt too nude for winter but I can wear it now. Sometimes I’ll put it over another lipstick to ‘nude’ it up a bit.

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

Tom Ford Pink Dune, Shiseido RS701

I had to include Shiseido RS701 even though it’s not available. This was my first Shiseido lipstick and it reminds me of shopping with my blog partner Lisa. It’s one of my favorite lipstick buys. It’s a pink nude (RS stands for Rose) that has the perfect depth for me.
