Lisa’s Top Ten Self Tanners

Self tanners have come a long way, baby. Years ago they were difficult to apply, smelled horrific, and turned you an unnatural looking orange. There are some truly great options out there today, options so great no one should be afraid to faux tan! I put my self tanners into two categories:  one night stands (these only last until you wash them off) and marriage material (these give you more committment – at least one week). Here are my top ten self tanners. The first five are my favorite one night stands and the next five are my favorite marriages.

1.  Gleam Body Radiance

Four fantastic color options, this one night stand is also the perfect remedy for any bad ‘marriages’.

2.  Red Carpet Kolour

Oh my this is a terrific one night stand…it makes any skin flaws disappear with beautiful tint and soft shimmer.

3.  Le Metier Bella Bronzer

The best liquid bronzer for the face and decolletage, hands down.

4.  Tarte Maracuja Rainforest Glow

5.  Carlene K Shine Bronzer Body Glow

There’s a reason this is a favorite of Hollywood starlets – it’s gorgeous, easy to use, and I love the beautiful golden shimmer.

6.  Jan Marini Bioglycolic Sunless Self Tanner

7.  Supergoop Self Tanning Sunscreen Mousse

This sunscreen is also a gradual self tanner, which is a great way to build up to that commitment.

8.  Tan Towels

See the tan lines? Tan Towels are a super convenient way to make them a thing of the past – even if you have the tan lines of a blogger.

9.  Make Me Smooth You Glow, Girl

I buy this self tanner over and over because it gives gorgeous color and I can get it in any scent I want. My most frequent pick is Day at the Beach, which is a “Coconut infused scent potion that will take you back to lazy days spent at the beach.”

10.  Beautisol Summer Glow Dark Tan Body Self-Tanning Lotion

This is a marriage, all right – it takes some time but it applies beautifully, gives deep dark color, and is total marriage material.

Le Metier de Beaute issues a 28 day challenge with Peau Vierge Dark Spot Corrector

lmdb 28-Day-Challenge

Le Metier de Beaute has a new product available now called Peau Vierge Dark Spot Corrector. I was sent one to test for 28 days to see how it worked. I’ve been using this for longer than 28 days since I like it and I’m seeing some positive differences in my skin.

CoppertoneI was brought up before sunscreen was around. My mom thought protecting her children meant slathering on Coppertone. It wasn’t her fault, the advertisements were so effective that we all thought we’d look like that cute little munchkin with a puppy pulling down our pants. Instead though I burned and then I’d burn again and again. My fair skin never tanned and I grew up thinking it was normal to be bright red in the summer. The result of all of this was freckles. I still have freckles on my face and arms and even on my legs which haven’t seen the sun in twenty years. Plus I have sunspots from aging in general. I used to use a darker foundation to try to cover these up but now I know the answer is in improving my skin, not hiding it.

Le Metier de Beaute Dark Skin Corrector (neimanmarcus.com)

When I first received Dark Spot Corrector I was leery about using it. The ingredients contain 1% Retinol and 1% Hexylresorcinol. I’ve found that unfortunately I’m very sensitive to retinol so I waited to make sure that I wasn’t using any other product that contained retinol for about 10 days and then I began my trial.

Dark Skin Corrector is the first product I put on after cleansing. I figure the closer it is to my actual skin, the better it will work. It’s a light yellow cream that applies smoothly and leaves my face feeling lightly moisturized. I then follow through with my other skincare and especially make sure I apply my SPF since retinol makes your skin more sensitive to the sun. I only use it once a day since I was worried about the retinol but I actually could use it twice a day.

The main ingredients in this are Retinol which is highly recommended for discoloration, if you have any scarring from acne, and for photo-aging from the ravages of the sun. With time Retinol does its job. It’s not fast acting, it’s something that works better and better with time.

Hexylresorcinol is similar to Hydroquinone in the job it does. It’s especially good for hyperpigmentation. Hexylresorcinol is gentler on the skin though than Hydroquinone which is why Le Metier chose this as their ingredient.

One more ingredient is Syntoc Actif which LMdB also uses in the CHEM60 Pro-Peel and GLOW10ai Mask Set. Syntoc Actif helps deliver the other ingredients into your skin and protects it from side effects.

The great news is that I haven’t had one single problem with the ingredients in Le Metier de Beaute’s Dark Spot Corrector. My face accepted it without moaning or peeling or adding redness. As much as I wish all my sunspots were gone, they aren’t but they are lighter and my skin is brighter. I feel like it looks more even toned plus it’s brighter than usual. I’m very happy with the results I’ve seen and expect to see more as time goes on. This is a product that’s sold exclusively at Neiman Marcus. It’s $125 which is nothing to sneeze at but you use such a small amount at one time that at least that’s in its favor. I’ve tried other dark spot correctors and liked them but there’s something about Le Metier’s that’s better for my skin. Don’t you hate when you fall in love with something like this?? — Marcia

Oscar de la Renta does Le Metier de Beaute the right way

Oscar1[7]It’s been a long time since either of us at Beauty Info Zone have been brides but we still sigh over the beauty of it all. Oscar de la Renta just had his fashion show for his Spring 2014 Bridal collection and Mikey Castillo along with a team from Le Metier de Beaute had the opportunity to work with the Bridal Show. Between Oscar’s gorgeous gowns and Mikey’s breathtaking beauty look, we believe you’ll catch a little bit of wedding fever.

The Inspiration

Fresh-faced, classical and elegant – someone in “the bloom of her beauty,” says Le Métier de Beauté’s Director of Makeup, Mikey Castillo. Mr. Castillo – using satiny shadows, fresh flushed pinks and glossy nudes – envisioned the look in the vein of Grace Kelly.

The Face

Mikey prepped his muses with Replenishing Daily Solution followed by Peau Vierge Tinted Luminizer for dewy skin and a subtle glow.

The Eyes

To create the satin lid look, Mikey used Dualistic Eye Pencil in Champagne. “Use as a shadow base from lash line to eye bridge,” says Mikey. Next, True Colour Shadow in Chameleon and Rose Champagne were layered over one another for soft femininity. Pulling it all together, Noir Precision Liquid Liner. “The important thing to remember is that the liner must be razor-fine. It must be tight and discreetly placed straight into the lash-line,” says Mr. Castillo. Finish with a light coat of Noir Anamorphic Lash Mascara over the top lashes.

oscar 2[6]

The Brows

“The key is for brows to be perfectly defined, but still look soft,” says Mikey. Mr. Castillo used Brow Bound Eyebrow Pencil in Natural Blonde to achieve the look.

The Cheeks

Apply Creme Fresh Tints in Coral Nymph high on the apple of the cheek for a youthful pink flush. Mikey’s tip: “The cheek color should appear pronounced, but still feminine.”

The Lips

Layer on Sweet Crème Lip Crème Lip Gloss for a sheer, nude-pink pout.

The Last Touches

For the final touch, Mikey Castillo says, “Apply Classic Flawless Finish Concealer in chaste amounts, where needed. No other concealer work as flawlessly.”

Liquid lining the Le Metier de Beaute way

Love liquid eyeliner but hate the smudging? Then you might want to check out the new Indelible Inks Eyeliners ($28) by Le Metier de Beaute.  Le Metier says, “Drawing long-lasting, intense lines, this highly pigmented, no-budge liquid eyeliner features a waterproof, fast-drying formula that’s made to last.  Smudge no more – water, tears, torrential downpour, or anything else the day brings – Indelible Inks Eyeliner boasts serious staying power.”

Le Metier de Beaute sent the BIZ two different shades to try, so Lisa and Marcia put the gel-based liquid eyeliner to the test and here is what they found:

Lisa’s Side:

The shade Artemis is a beautiful shimmery deep blackened blue. It’s really stunning – the color is vibrant and cool, less harsh than black but it still defines beautifully and gives eyes a real ‘pop’.

The bottle and applicator are small so they are easy to control. The brush itself can supply a super thin line or a thicker one.

My Artemis eyes

My Artemis eyes

For the above eye look, I used Artemis to line my lower lid. I kept the upper lid simple with a thin line of black eyeliner, plus peach and brown eyeshadows.

Drama eyes with nude lips

Drama eyes with nude lips

I kept the rest of my look subtle and neutral so it didn’t compete with the more dramatic eyes. I love the Le Metier de Beaute Indelible Ink Eyeliners because they truly don’t smudge, which is almost always a problem for me under my eyes. The shade Artemis is vibrant and really shows up, and it’s a nice change of pace from the typical black.

Liner tip for Artemis

Liner tip for Artemis

I chose to review Castilia since I’m crazy about the color purple. Castilia is the newest color in the Indelible Ink line from Le Metier de Beaute. They teased us before with Artemis so I already knew that I was getting a winner with this liner. As you can see from my picture of the Artemis tip above it’s very thin and therefore easy for me to work with. The original Le Metier liner, Precision Liner, has a felt tip point while Indelible Ink liners have a thinner, more flexible point.

Le Metier de Beaute Castilia Indelible Ink eyeliner

Castilia is a dark eggplant which has a slight sheen to it if you look close. It too is a great change from my typical black or brown eyeliner. The beauty of it, besides the gorgeous color, is how it wears. It not only goes on smoothly but it lasts beautifully. I have watery eyes and even on the days that’s most noticeable, this doesn’t budge. The only caveat I have with this liner is to make sure you don’t have too much on the brush. It’s best to wipe the brush off a little before using it.

Le Metier de Beaute polishes shine year round

Le Metier de Beaute' Dream Maker and Christmas Town

Le Metier de Beaute’ Dream Maker and Christmas Town

There is nothing quite as luxurious for me as a rich full bodied nail polish. (You expected me to say wine, didn’t you??) As much as I love all the sparkle and shimmer that is available today, there is something that is quite sophisticated and breathtaking about a deep colored cream polish. Le Métier de Beauté brought out a collection of polishes for the holiday season that contain two such polishes: Dream Maker and Christmas Town. The rich violet-navy and gorgeous emerald green polishes stopped people in their tracks when they saw these shades on my nails. They look expensive on. I don’t know how that happens but it really does happen. I didn’t want to take off Dream Maker the week I wore it. It stayed beautiful the entire week. It was shiny and gorgeous for 7 straight days. Only growth and the desire to wear Christmas Town gave me the incentive to have it removed.

le metier purple polish nailsThese two polishes may have been made for the winter season but they will be beautiful the entire year. I love a blue polish for the 4th of July and Dream Maker will be perfect since it looks more blue on my nails than purple. Christmas Town could just as easily been named St. Patrick’s Town since this color will shine brightly again come March 17th. By now we all know that emerald is the Pantone color of the year and this is going to be gorgeous when spring comes and you really start finding emerald green clothes and accessories in the stores.

Le Métier de Beauté makes polishes that are wonderful. I’ve bought quite a few and have never been anything but thrilled with them. Their polishes aka lacquers are formulated without without formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Proposition 65-compliant, and fortified with strengthening proteins and hydrators. The pigmentation is extremely full making them long wearing.

Le Metier de Beaute Moon's Glow and Tinsel Town

Le Metier de Beaute Moon’s Glow and Tinsel Town

In addition to Dream Maker and Christmas Town, Le Métier de Beauté created two trendy transforming or customizing polishes. These can be worn alone or they can be used to transform the two mainstays or other polishes you have. Moon’s Glow appears to be a white with a touch of gold in it when you look at the bottle. If you were to wear it alone you’d find that it gives your nails a light metallic gold appearance. Over another polish though magic will happen and the shade will suddenly be filled with moonlight. Tinsel Town is the other transforming shade. It contains gold, green and silver and becomes holographic over Dream Maker or Christmas Town. I was surprised that I preferred this over Dream Maker. If I had to pick just one of these polishes it would be Tinsel Town since I find it the most unusual.

One of my favorite things to do with polishes like these is to liven up a tired manicure. About the 5th day I start getting antsy and that’s when I’ll pull out a top coat that will change the look of what I’m wearing. These two transforming polishes will be stars in your collection 365 days a year.

While Christmas may be long over, these 4 polishes aren’t. They will brighten up your drab winter days when you look at these shades on your nails. — Marcia

Le Metier’s new Ultra Hydration Eye Mask Duo had us at first blink

le metier eye maskBeauty Info Zone is no stranger to Le Metier de Beaute. We’ve been in love with the brand since our first shopping foray at Neiman Marcus in Troy, Michigan. We were at the counter that day for absolutely hours and then we came back the following week to get our makeup done. When we learned about their newest product, ULTRA HYDRATION EYE MASK DUO, our hearts were racing. Happily, just before Beauty Week at Neiman, we were each sent a mask to try out.

These masks can be used just about anywhere. They stay in place so that you can go about your daily business. You can even exercise in them as you’ll soon see. You can wear them with or without makeup. They don’t disturb your makeup but boy do they make your eyes look fabulous after use. The sad news is that these are a one time use product, the happy news is that they really work.

Le Metier

Le Metier Ultra Hydration Eye Mask Duo

First, here’s what Neiman Marcus and Le Metier de Beaute have to tell us about these masks. Then Marcia and Lisa will tell you about their experiences.

Perfectly shaped translucent treatment patches help restore the delicate under eye area with an infusion of moisturizing actives. Featuring patented technology, the seaweed-based mask immediately cools, delivering tuned hydration to deeply quench and refresh tired skin. The perfect amount of moisture packed into one package, ideal for keeping under eyes refreshed and revived at home or on-the-go.

  • Translucent masks seal in one-way hydration to energize and brighten eyes.
  • Seaweed-base immediately delivers a cool, calming sensation with actives to soothe the delicate under eye area.
  • Individual sachets ideal for extended air travel, hotel stays, or boosting moisture after exercise.
  • Translucent patches deliver moisture discretely and effectively.

Marcia’s side:

I used my eye mask after a particularly sleepless night, one of tossing and turning. If the Le Metier de Beaute eye mask could work on refreshing me after a night like that I’d know they were a winner.  I was given some advice by a friend that works for Le Metier so even though it wasn’t in the directions she told me to put them in the refrigerator before using. From reading other people’s experiences with this mask duo I know it’s not necessary to do this but boy was it amazingly revitalizing.

These are so easy to apply, unlike many masks where I’ve had to fight to get them on properly. They felt cool (obviously) and surprisingly lightweight. You can go about your business without even realizing they are on. They are designed to be worn absolutely anywhere, I can picture using them on an airplane before landing so that you would look refreshed.

After my 15 minutes were up I removed the patches and patted the product that was left into my skin (also on the advice of the LMdB employee). My eyes looked refreshed and no one other than my husband (who I woke up half a dozen times during the night) had a clue that I had had a sleepless night.  — Marcia

 Lisa’s side:

I love eye masks because I very often wake up with puffy eyes. I don’t know if it’s because of the way I sleep, or maybe I don’t drink enough water, but it’s definitely more of a problem as I get older.

before

before with my very puffy eyes

I found these little eye masks to be pretty awesome. I didn’t put them in the refrigerator like Marcia did (Marcia, why didn’t you share that fabulous tip with me???) but they still felt extremely cool to the skin. They stick on very nicely.

whilst wearing!

whilst wearing!

I actually put these on, cleaned out my car, then then did some rebounding. A rebounder is a little trampoline that I have in my house – if I watch TV, I make myself jump on the rebounder during the commercials. This way I feel extremely virtuous as I watch RuPaul’s Drag Race or The Soup.

doing my eye mask didn't keep me from rebounding

doing my eye mask didn’t keep me from rebounding

I figured the eye masks would migrate down during my mini- exercise sessions, but they didn’t.  I had a small issue with some hairs sort of sticking, but I just put my hair up in a clip and that problem was solved.

after

after, much less puffy!

I wore my eye masks for about a half hour because I forgot they were on! Afterward, there was a truly noticeable difference. These eye masks work. – Lisa

Ultra Hydration Eye Masks are $150 for a box of 8 sets and would be the perfect item to buy during the upcoming Neiman Marcus Beauty week. Le Metier is doing a competition between bloggers and we’d really appreciate it if you’d tell the Neiman Marcus counter that Marcia or Lisa or Beauty Info Zone sent you. We hope to be able to do a giveaway too for our readers with Le Metier products. Please call or visit the Troy, MI store (248-643-3300 X2104 or X2106) and tell Venus we sent you. No matter where you look into these masks you’ll be doing yourself a favor by doing so, they are wonderful.
