Beating the winter dry skin blues with LaVanila The Healthy Body Butter in Vanilla Lavender

I am addicted to body moisturizers all year-long – in the summer, I love body oils. In the winter, my skin is exceptionally dry, so I love body butters. I’ve used and loved LaVanila’s The Healthy Body Butter ($19) in the past, but this was my first time trying the Vanilla Lavender scent.  Usually I stay away from lavender…it’s just too sharp for me and sometimes it even triggers a migraine. But this soft, sweet scent has won me over!                                                                                                                                                                 sample

There are many reasons why I always have a big tube of The Healthy Body Butter on my bathroom counter. Lots of body butter have things I’m not crazy about, like parabens, silicone and mineral oils. Those kinds of ingredients clog up your pores, actually blocking the absorption of the good ingredients. The Healthy Body Butter is indeed healthy, because it doesn’t have any of the bad stuff but it has plenty of vitamins and antioxidants.

Body Butter

LaVanila The Healthy Body Butter

The lotion is subtly scented and pairs beautifully with other scents. It has 100% pure shea and cocoa butters to moisturize, along with goji berry and Kakadu Plus for anti-oxidant power. This body butter is sooo thick and creamy, it really does seem almost buttery. It looks like it would take a little work to get it absorbed, but it soaks in beautifully and leaves my skin softly scented and super smooth. The 100% pure shea & cocoa butters make it a great winter protectant. You smell good and you feel soft. The Vanilla Lavender is a blend of Spanish Lavender, rose and vanilla, which makes for a very soft but sexy scent.

If you’re like me and constantly battling dry winter skin, be sure to pick up one of these big huge tubes of goodness from LaVanila!  – Lisa

Sweating with Orange Theory and getting clean with LaVanila The Healthy Body Wash 3-in-1 Sport Luxe

I have been taking advantage of my extra time off this summer by concentrating on getting fit and healthy. Last June I discovered Orange Theory Fitness, which is a nation-wide gym based on the theory that keeping your heart rate at a particular level (the orange level) for at least 12 minutes in an hour results in an increased metabolic rate for the next 36 hours. That means less working out and more burning fat!

Orange Theory FitnessWhat I love most about the Orange Theory classes is they totally fly by. It’s interval training with three different types of stations – treadmill, rowing machines, and weights – and you don’t do anything for very long, which means it never get monotonous. Hey, I can do pretty much anything for 90 seconds! I also love the results. I’ve never slimmed down so fast. What I don’t particularly love is how I smell after a class. I walk out of there so sweaty it literally looks like I just got out of the shower…although it definitely doesn’t smell that way.

LaVanila The Healthy Body Wash 3 in 1 Sport LuxeOnce I get home I immediately jump in the shower and lather up with Lavanila Laboratories Healthy Sport Luxe Bodywash ($16), which is a sulfate-free body wash that was created specifically for tackling the sweat and oil that come from a really great workout. Ingredients include coconut oil infused with something called Smartsport Technology, which is gentle but still cleanses like crazy. It also has rosehip and aloe, making it a nice base for shaving.

LaVanila The Healthy Body Wash 3 in 1 Sport LuxeThis sulfate-free body wash smells wonderfully fresh and clean in a unisex way – I guess the packaging suggests it’s marketed for women, but the men in your life will love it too.  The Healthy Sport Luxe Bodywash is part of the new ‘100% Healthy products made with love and without harsh chemicals’ from LaVanila. You won’t be reluctant to break a sweat with this terrific body wash!  – Lisa

Fresh fragrance for fall: LaVanila Laboratories Vanilla Grapefruit

I have been experimenting with fresh fragrances for the fall season, and a surprise winner for me is LaVanila Laboratories Vanilla Grapefruit.  Wait…vanilla?  Grapefruit?  Fall?  Those don’t seem to go together…oh, but they do, in a big way!

LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit

LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit

I am not usually a big grapefruit fan, although I do love me some vanilla…so when LaVanila Laboratories sent me this to test I was definitely game. I was not, however, prepared to fall head over heels for this vanilla with a twist of grapefruit.

Vanilla Grapefruit ($58) is a modern, sexy vanilla scent that is warm but with a bite. I tend to think of citrus fragrances as more spring/summer, but the warmth of the vanilla makes this a perfect cool weather scent. The vanilla is beautifully rich in a very unexpected way.

LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit

LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit

Lavanila Vanilla Grapefruit has notes of lime, patchouli, grapefruit, heliotrope, bergamot, madagascar vanilla and sandalwood. I have to say up front that I detect NO patchouli in this…which a big plus for me because I am usually not a fan of patchouli. For my fellow migraine sufferers, this fragrance has no synthetics so it’s probably never going to trigger or exacerbate a headache. Another plus…men LOVE this scent. Vanilla drives my husband crazy…which is typical for men, from what I read. The top scents that turn a man on are all edible scents, with both vanilla and citrus at the top of the list (so is pumpkin pie, but that’s a whole other review topic!). Believe me when I tell you this scent is one the men in your life will appreciate.

LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit

LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit

LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit truly transforms and morphs on my skin. The beginning is more citrus, like a just-cut juicy grapefruit. Then it morphs into a yummy, warm vanilla floating on delicious sandalwood. It still has a bite of the citrus but it’s a little more lime than grapefruit to my nose. The cedar also comes out, but it’s tempered by that soothing vanilla. After an hour or so, it settles into a wonderfully creamy and warm vanilla with that little citrus bite…like a really cute guy who has a touch of danger in him. Gorgeous, delicious, and tiny bit naughty.

The many moods of LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit!

The many moods of LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit!

If you are looking for a super fresh citrus scent, this isn’t your bottle of heaven. LaVanila Vanilla Grapefruit is more vanilla than anything, but if you want a fabulous warm vanilla with a twist of something different, it is exactly what you are looking for…I can’t recommend it highly enough. You can find it online at and also at Sephora.  – Lisa

If the product that I’m using for daytime moisturizing doesn’t have sunscreen then it’s Supergoop to the rescue. No fragrance which is important to me. Gentle and non-greasy. It works great with or without makeup. I wrote about it in July and I am writing about it again at the end of December so it’s a love all year round.*
1419726422_aaa_oil_30ALGENIST ADVANCED ANTI-AGING REPAIRING OIL – I’ve grown to love oil on my face but they aren’t all created equal. This past summer I was testing one by Yes to Blueberries and while the price was right, I finally gave up on it since it was too heavy. An oil needs to be gently absorbed and not sit on top of your skin. Algenist does just that. You can use a few drops or mix it with a serum. Either way it’s protecting my skin this winter and helping with the dehydration that I see.
There are a lot more products that I could have included in this Top Ten list but these are the ones in my current rotation. They are all products I’m thrilled to count as winter saviors. — Marcia

Makeup Wars chooses favorite perfumes

Today for Makeup Wars Marcia and Lisa collaborated to bring you Lisa’s 5 favorite fragrances that have the scent of coconut in them. It might just be a small part of the fragrance but it’s enough to make Lisa happy as that’s her favorite scent. (When I write collaborated, I mean I made Lisa pick and tell me about the fragrances. She did the hard part, I’m just the facilitator. — Marcia)

2.  Viva La Juicy Gold Couture –  This is a fruity fragrance with yummy coconut and vanilla notes. This is a new addition to the Juicy Couture family and has become a favorite to wear for Lisa.

Lavanila Vanilla Coconut Forever Fragrance Oil and Roller Ball

foreverfragranceoilvcLaVanila Vanilla Coconut gets my vote as the PERFECT summer fragrance. I wear it in the fall as I long for those hot summer days, I wear it in the winter when I want to transport myself to the beach, I wear it in spring in anticipation of a beautiful summer, and I wear it in the summer because it’s perfect! I waxed poetic about this scent when LaVanila first sent the BIZ products to try, you can read that review HERE.

LaVanila describes the fragrance as, “Paradise Found.  A rich, tropical blend of Young Coconut, exotic Tahitian Tiare Flower, and pure Madagascar vanilla bean steeped in the warmth of sweet almond oil.” I find it to be the perfect blend of coconut, gardenia, and vanilla.

LaVanila Vanilla Coconut Forever Fragrance Oil

Today I am going to tell about my two favorite ways of wearing this amazing scent. Forget sprays and spritzes…let’s go roller ball!!

Forever Fragrance Oil

The Forever Fragrance Oil ($25) version of this scent is a blend of essential oils and sweet almond oil. There isn’t any alcohol, so the fragrance truly lasts all day. It’s a terrific way to wear the Vanilla Coconut scent and it also comes in Vanilla Grapefruit and Pure Vanilla.

The Healthy Roller-Ball

The Healthy Roller-Ball ($19) is another option I adore for my beloved Vanilla Coconut scent. This version is all natural and organic, there are no chemicals inside.

Lavanila is la fantastic!

Lavanila Vanilla Coconut

Do you have a favorite scent?  Mine is coconut.  I love how coconut transports me instantly to the beach, which is always where I most want to be.

One sniff of Lavanila Vanilla Coconut and I am here. With Joe.

One sniff of Lavanila Vanilla Coconut and I am here. With Joe.

I also love vanilla, which just so happens to make a very happy couple with coconut. Some of my favorite vanilla/coconut products come from Lavanila. Lavanila was founded by Danielle Raynor, who wanted to create healthy skin care and fragrances. She found the best vanilla in Madagascar, where the vanilla is called Lavanila. She named her company after that amazing vanilla, and has based all of her products around the vanilla scent.  I find the Vanilla Coconut scent to be smooth, creamy coconut that doesn’t smell synthetic, along with rich, warm vanilla.  Total yumminess.

The Healthy Body Wash 2 in 1 Shower and Shave ($14) is a great way to start the day.  This is a huge tube of liquid soap that truly smells divine.  Shower and Shave has coconut and rosehip oils to moisturize, along with aloe and calendula.  It lathers up beautifully and makes for quick and easy shaving.  It doesn’t have any sulfates so it leaves skin super soft and moisturized.  It seriously transports me and puts me a great mood every time I use it.

Body Butter

The Healthy Body Butter

The Healthy Body Butter ($10) has the addition of Tahitian Tiare Flower to the vanilla/coconut mix.  The lotion is subtly scented and pairs beautifully with other scents.  It has 100% pure shea and cocoa butters to moisturize, along with goji berry and Kakadu Plus for anti-oxidant power.  And check out the price – $10 for this big tube of lotion is awesome.

Body Butter

talk about thick!

This body butter is sooo thick and creamy, it really does seem almost buttery.  I thought it would take a little work to get it absorbed, but it soaks in beautifully and leaves my skin softly scented and super smooth.  I love how this is full of natural, organic ingredients without any synthetic preservatives or harsh chemicals.

The Healthy Deodorant

If you are looking for an all-natural deodorant, you need to check out The Healthy Deodorant ($18).  This is not an antiperspirant, so if you looking for sweat control you need something else.  This makes you smell good, and it does it without aluminum, parabens, propylene glycol, or chemicals.  What is does have are essential oils, anti-oxidants, and beta glucan technology.

looks as pretty as it smells

I find the Vanilla Coconut Deodorant smells of exotic coconut and soft tiare flower.  The deodorant has a warmer smell to it than the shower gel and body butter, it’s subtle and very pretty.  How wonderful to fight odor without the harsh chemicals that can burn and irritate your skin!

You can find Lavanila products online and at stores such as Sephora.  They have other vanilla-based scents including Pure Vanilla, Vanilla Grapefruit, Vanilla Blackberry, Vanilla Blossom, Vanilla Lavender, Vanilla Passion Fruit, and Vanilla Summer.  For now I am just enjoying the warm comfort of the Vanilla Coconut products, they bring me to the beach…and to Joe…with just one sniff.  – Lisa
