Makeup Wars – Pore Relief

This week Makeup Wars has decided to focus on Skin Savers. This could be products for anything from wrinkles, blemishes, dark circles to my choice pore helpers. Even though skincare isn’t always exciting, it will be so interesting to see what the other bloggers have focused on. I can’t wait to read their posts and find ways to save my skin!

Makeup Wars - Pore Relief

Makeup Wars – Pore Relief

One of my problems is the size of my pores. Luckily no one walks around with magnifying glasses or I’d be shunned in society. As a teen I had way too many blackheads. Besides being shy as could be, I felt like this was the bane of my existence. As an adult I realize I’m lucky I had skin that oily back then because it’s kept me younger looking. But the end result is pores galore. My solution is to use products that make them look smaller and to exfoliate my skin a few times a week to keep my pores cleaner. I’ve chosen 5 of the products that I’m using to blur away this imperfection. I forgot about exfoliators so that will just have to be another time.

Kiehl's Micro-Blur Skin Perfector

Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector

KIEHL’S MICRO-BLUR SKIN PERFECTOR* – This is my newest product and I’m not ready to write a full review of it. At first I thought it was only a topical skin smoother but once I started reading about it I realized that this actually a treatment too. I haven’t used it long enough to see how it works over time but I’m enjoying this as my last step before applying foundation. It’s doing a good job in blurring my pores.

Mally Poreless Pore Defender (old packaging)

Mally Poreless Pore Defender (old packaging)

MALLY EVERCOLOR PORELESS FACE DEFENDER – I’ve mentioned this many times since it’s one of my most used products ever. I’m on my third one and that’s almost gone. I first received it in a QVC kit I bought and before it was gone, I purchased another. I use this over all my face makeup to help look as poreless as possible. The sponge it comes with is wonderful, just be careful not to use too much.

Purely Cosmetics Diamond Perfect Finish

Purely Cosmetics Diamond Perfect Finish

PURELY COSMETICS DIAMOND PERFECT FINISH * – I use either the Mally Face Defender or Purely Cosmetics Diamond Perfect Finish powder every day without fail. Not only does this very finely milled powder set my makeup for an entire day, it also helps blur imperfections. I’m in love with this powder as well as the Pre-Fixx Face Primer I talked about in my indie company review.

Miracle Skin Transformer Vanish

Miracle Skin Transformer Vanish

MIRACLE SKIN TRANSFORMER VANISH* – MST makes many great products and I love discovering them all but I think my favorite is VANISH. I didn’t realize how great this was when I first reviewed it over a year ago, but the more I use it the more I realize just how much I like it. It combines a serum with a primer to produce a gel that helps vanish fine lines and pores. In my original review I mention all the long term benefits. I’m ready for the illusion of porcelain skin with Vanish.

Youngblood Anti-Shine Mattifier

Youngblood Anti-Shine Mattifier

YOUNGBLOOD ANTI-SHINE MATTIFIER – I bought this at IMATS just before it became available to the public because I was so excited to find that one of my favorite companies had come out with a product to not only keep me shine free but also to make those pesky pores look smaller. I apply this before foundation so even though it seems similar to the Mally, it’s placement is better for me during makeup application rather than after. The packaging is great since the sponge is housed under the mattifier so it’s better for travel or taking with.

Rather than my going on for miles of more products tell me which of these you’ve used and any others that you’d recommend. Then join the other bloggers to see what Skin Savers they recommend. — Marcia

Put some space on your face with Kiehls

Check out this really cool social media contest – Kiehl’s ‘Put Some Space On Your Face’ gives you (well, actually your face!) an opportunity to travel with them to space.  The giveaway is in celebration of the new Kiehl’s Oil Eliminator line.  They sent its ‘hero’ product (24-Hour Anti-Shine Moisturizer For Men) into space. For real. The product was on a custom rig that was sent 20 miles above the surface of the earth.

Kiehls SpaceFace

You can see the video at and can also enter the giveaway there.  Just take a photo of yourself in mid-air then hashtag it #SpaceFace.  Random winners will win their face a trip to space via a 3D custom astronaut figurine with their face on it.  That figurine is attached to a shuttle and sent into the stratosphere.  After the figurines land, the winners are sent their personalized, space traveling action figures.

What is this new line that has inspired the space travel?  The OIL ELIMINATOR FOR MEN, brand new this month.  There are three products that tackle men’s oily skin, mattifying and reducing the appearance of pores.

Kiehls Oil Eliminator

So why the space travel?  It’s all in the ingredients.

Oil Eliminator uses Aerolite, an advanced material based on the science of aerogel, which has been used in space exploration (for example, as an insulating material on Mars Exploration Rover in 1997). Aerolite is the lightest solid material on Earth because it is composed of up to 99.98% air by volume, helping to provide a weightless feel on the skin. The substance is likened to a gel from which the liquid portion has been removed without causing the material to shrink in size or collapse. Due to its highly porous structure and large surface area, it is able to absorb FOUR TIMES its own weight in oil, providing efficient sebum absorption capabilities. Oil Eliminator 24-hour Anti-Shine Moisturizer, with Aerolite technology, helps reduce pore visibility and imperfections.

In general, men have different skin issues than women.  A man has more sebum-producing sebaceous glands, so they have more oil production and larger pores.  Plus they sweat more, which means every more shine and oily residue on their faces.  Kiehl’s three new products containing Aerolite address these concerns.

The Deep Cleansing Exfoliating Face Wash ($20) is a soap-free and sulfate-free cleanser.  It has crushed Apricot Seeds to help exfoliate, which also decreases the appearance of pores.  It doesn’t dry out the skin, and it does a terrific job of smoothing skin texture and getting rid of shine.

The Refreshing Shine Control Toner ($20) is a cooling spray that tones and also decreases the appearance of sweat and oil.  The Capryloyl Glycine dries up the bad stuff, but doesn’t dry out skin.

The 24-Hour Anti-Shine Moisturizer for Men ($27) is a lightweight moisturizer with Aerolite to absorb oil and sweat.  The result is a shine-free appearance and soft, hydrated skin. It also has Totara Wood Extract to diminish the appearance of pores.

My 21-year-old son, who has sensitive, oily, breakout prone skin, thinks this line is the bomb.  He gets the best results using the Deep Cleansing Exfoliating Face Wash in the shower, then toning with the Refreshing Shine Control Toner, and following with the 24-Hour Anti-Shine Moisturizer for Men.

This is a terrific line for men so be sure to take a look.  And don’t forget to put some space on your face!  Snap that photo then hashtag it #SpaceFace on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.  - Lisa

Healthy skin with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser and Toner

The Kiehl’s line has always fascinated me. The packaging is old-school pharmacy and the prices are extremely reasonable, especially for a line found in high-end department stores. The BIZ was sent two Kiehl’s products to test:  the Ultra Facial Cleanser (5 oz. tube is $19.50) and the Ultra Facial Toner (8.4 oz. bottle is $16). Both are terrific skin care products.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser and Toner

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser and Toner

The Ultra Facial Cleanser is a no-frills, no messing around water-soluble cleanser that does exactly what a great cleanser should do. It dissolves even the heaviest makeup without stripping the skin thanks to emollient ingredients like Squalane, Apricot Kernel Oil, Vitamin E, and Avocado Oil. This cleanser will work for even very sensitive skin and another great plus is that it’s fragrance-free.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser and Toner

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser and Toner

The Ultra Facial Cleanser foams up slightly as you use it and it’s a terrific cleanser to use with face cleansers like the Clarisonic and the Luna. This is one of Kiehl’s most popular products and it comes by its terrific reputation honestly!

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser

The Ultra Facial Toner surprised me a bit, because it’s a little more creamy and thick than the typical toner. It’s very emollient and does a great job of hydrating the skin and preparing it for other skin care products like serums, treatments, and moisturizers. Moisturizing ingredients include Squalane, Apricot Kernel Oil, and Avocado Oil. It also has the excellent antioxidant Vitamin E to help fight off free radicals.

The Ultra Facial Cleanser and Toner are my very first Kiehl’s products ever and I’m glad they were my introduction to the line! I recommend them both, but I definitely think the Ultra Facial Cleanser is a must have.  – Lisa

Join Alicia Keys and Kiehl’s in their Keep a Child Alive campaign @KeepAChildAlive

One of my favorite things about Kiehl’s is their philanthropy. When they believe in a cause they put 100% of their effort behind it. I’m sharing a product that is not only one I like a lot from Kiehl’s but one that will Keep a Child Alive. This new project is done in conjunction with the talented Alicia Keys. We don’t share press releases often on Beauty Info Zone since we know you’ll see them all over the web but this is too important to us, as parents and teachers, to let it go. We urge you to read this and consider buying this special addition from Kiehl’s. — Marcia

midnight rescueKiehl’s has introduced a special edition of the 1 oz. Midnight Recovery Concentrate, with 100% of the net profits, up to $200,000, benefiting Keep a Child Alive.  Keep a Child Alive was co-founded in 2003 by Alicia Keys and activist Leigh Blake, and supports innovative, community-led responses that increase access to life-saving HIV care and treatment, nutritious food, and loving support for children and families living with and affected by HIV.

The special edition bottle includes an important call to action from Alicia Keys to, “Join our movement,” echoing her continued drive to encourage everyone to use their voice for change and make a difference in the fight against AIDS. 72% of children who need HIV treatment are not receiving it.  By purchasing the special edition Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, your readers can join our movement and help get HIV treatment and loving care to children who need it most. Buying one bottle of Midnight Recovery Concentrate helps Keep a Child Alive provide one month of HIV care, medicines, and love to a child living with HIV.

Midnight Recovery Concentrate – a Kiehl’s customer favorite with 1 product sold every minute globally – is a potent concentration of botanical extracts specifically formulated to biologically replicate skin’s natural lipids for optimal skin repair throughout the night. This powerful concentrate is 99% naturally-derived and paraben-free. Affectionately referred to as “MRC” by Kiehl’s devotees, Midnight Recovery Concentrate is 99% naturally-derived and developed as an anhydrous (“water-free”), unconventional concentration of active botanical and essential oils that begin to work overnight to replenish lipids for a fresher and more radiant appearance by morning.

Here’s a short video done by Alicia Keys to underscore the importance of this movement.
