Healthy skin with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser and Toner

The Kiehl’s line has always fascinated me. The packaging is old-school pharmacy and the prices are extremely reasonable, especially for a line found in high-end department stores. The BIZ was sent two Kiehl’s products to test:  the Ultra Facial Cleanser (5 oz. tube is $19.50) and the Ultra Facial Toner (8.4 oz. bottle is $16). Both are terrific skin care products.

The Ultra Facial Cleanser is a no-frills, no messing around water-soluble cleanser that does exactly what a great cleanser should do. It dissolves even the heaviest makeup without stripping the skin thanks to emollient ingredients like Squalane, Apricot Kernel Oil, Vitamin E, and Avocado Oil. This cleanser will work for even very sensitive skin and another great plus is that it’s fragrance-free.

The Ultra Facial Cleanser foams up slightly as you use it and it’s a terrific cleanser to use with face cleansers like the Clarisonic and the Luna. This is one of Kiehl’s most popular products and it comes by its terrific reputation honestly!

The Ultra Facial Toner surprised me a bit, because it’s a little more creamy and thick than the typical toner. It’s very emollient and does a great job of hydrating the skin and preparing it for other skin care products like serums, treatments, and moisturizers. Moisturizing ingredients include Squalane, Apricot Kernel Oil, and Avocado Oil. It also has the excellent antioxidant Vitamin E to help fight off free radicals.

As a woman ages, what’s the one thing she’s looking for in the mirror? Could it be wrinkles or fine lines? If others are like I am then they are examining their faces for those signs that mean that the sands of time are taking their toll. That’s why it’s helpful to start using well researched, top name brands like Kiehl’s for skincare. Kiehl’s has a new wrinkle reducing collection which includes Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream (with and without SPF) and Powerful Line Reducing Eye Cream. I was sent the Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream without SPF and have been using this as my night moisturizer for the last several months.

The goal of the Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream is to reduce wrinkles, smooth texture, minimize pores and improve elasticity by 1/3. This was created for all ages so you don’t need to be as old as I am to have it work, actually it would be better if you were to start it at a younger age. The Kiehl’s scientists say that we begin to lose elasticity in our 20’s and that’s what causes the fine lines and enlarged pores to start forming. I always thought the reason I had such large pores was that I had extremely oily skin when I was young and was plagued with blackheads. But in my twenties and thirties I didn’t notice that my pores were that large, I thought they were just average. Now I realize that one of the reasons my pores look so enlarged is because of the lack of smoothness and elasticity. Well color me dumbfounded.

Kiehl’s put powerful ingredients to work to protect the skin’s moisture barrier: Copper PCA, Calcium PCA and Apricot Kernel Oil are all important ingredients in this moisturizer to help infuse the skin with more hydration.

What I find about Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream is that it’s on the dry side. That’s not a complaint, it’s just that it surprised me the first time I used it. The moisturizer I’m currently using during the day is quite loose and wet and this Kiehl’s cream is the opposite. The texture is dense and dry yet it moisturizes my skin perfectly. It’s comfortable on and sinks in quite nicely. To top it off, it doesn’t have a fragrance!

What I’m personally finding is that the fine lines that plague me, especially near my eye area, are lessened. Under my eyes it looks and feels clearer to me. When I first started noticing it, I thought I’d forgotten to put on some makeup. My undereye area looked clear. I’m so not used to it. Yes I still had some puffiness but there was a difference in the area under the usual puffy area. It was smooth. Well color me shocked.

Unfortunately I’m not noticing that my pores are lessened but I’m not giving up. I use so little of the moisturizer that I’ve got months to go to see what kind of changes it might make. Prior to this experience with the Kiehl’s I hadn’t noticed copper as a main ingredient in my skincare. I’m learning though that copper has been demonstrated to reduce wrinkles, pores and keep skin more hydrated. Maybe I need to start bathing in Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream! I know I’ll continue using it to try to keep the sands of time from winning. — Marcia
