Saturday, November 24th falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and it also marks the third annual Small Business Saturday; a day to support local businesses around the country. Small Business Saturday was founded in 2010 by American Express in response to small business owners’ most pressing need: more customers. American Express provides support by generating awareness and action around shopping local for the entire day. So if you need a gift, a haircut, new shoes, a new concealer… Pick it up at a small biz! You can learn where to shop, and how to support local businesses in your area by visiting

Here’s a great very short video to remind you of why you should SHOP SMALL

Speaking of small, I have a new favorite nail polish shop that is considered an “indie”. I’ll be reviewing a beautiful polish this weekend from SoFlaJo. Starting now you can get free shipping on polishes with a minimum $20 order. The best thing is that she sells minis for only $5 so you can try a lot of her fabulous polishes for very little money. I have Hidden Gem from Jody’s new Party Time collection and it’s H.O.T. I’m so ordering from the Year of the Dragon collection!! This is a way to buy small and get yourself some pretties at a great price.  — Marcia

Giveaway for Keranique’s Hair Thinning System

We have a terrific new giveaway for you on Beauty Info Zone. In mid-September Lisa wrote a review about her great experiences with Keranique and how it helped combat her thinning hair. We have had a lot of interest in the line and now we’re lucky enough to be able to offer you their Hair Thinning System to try for yourself or a loved one who might have that problem.

This is a 3 part collection that contains all the products you’d need. 1) Keranique 8-Day Intensive Treatment. This is a leave-in scalp therapy that is highly concentrated. It will help with stimulating hair regrowth as well as support the thicker hair you’ll have. 2) Keranique Follicle-Boosting Serum is the product that actually addresses thinning hair at the follicle. 3) Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment which contains 2% Minoxidil which is the only FDA approved treatment to re-grow hair.

Here’s the information you need to know to see if this Keranique Giveaway is a good fit:

Keranique Intensive Scalp Treatment

*The Keranique 8-Day Intensive Treatment is a major advancement in hair anti-aging, which contains the highest recommended concentration of a clinical strength, patented peptide to help strengthen and “anchor” the hair at the root. This highly concentrated, leave-in scalp therapy also helps reduce DHT on the scalp, stimulate skin proteins, and reduce scalp irritation to support thicker, healthier hair as it grows. ($60)

Keranique Follicle Boosting Serum

*The Keranique Follicle-Boosting Serum addresses thinning hair at the follicles using a peptide and stem cell technology. Apple stem cells target the hair follicle to protect, nourish and strengthen it for maximum hair growth. The serum is weightless and alcohol-free. ($30)

Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment

*The Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment features 2% Minoxidil, the only FDA-approved treatment clinically-proven to help regrow hair. This treatment is for women with thinning hair looking for serious and long-term solutions. ($25)

The Keranique giveaway is only open in the United States. Keranique is sponsoring this and will be sending out the prize to the winner. Please use the Rafflecopter to enter by October 21, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Thank you and good luck. Don’t forget that we announce giveaway winners on Beauty Info Zone in a post and on the Rafflecopter.

Help for thinning hair with Keranique

I have been obsessive about my hair ever since I was in 2nd grade.  Up to that point I had pretty, slightly wavy hair that was long, about mid-back.  I had lots of friends and the boys always liked me.  But one horrid day I got the worst haircut of my entire life.  My mom decided to give me ‘trim’, and couldn’t get the edge straight – so she kept cutting, and cutting, and cutting.  Ultimately I looked like someone had taken a defective Flowbee to my head and turned it on warp speed.  I looked ridiculous.  And even worse, when I went to school, no one wanted to be my friend anymore.  I was shunned for looking like I had just cut my own hair with a rusty knife while blindfolded.  Needless to say, I have been obsessive about my hair looking good ever since.

Considering my hair ‘issues’, it was not a great moment when I was looking at a few photos and realized that my hair was thinning along my part.  It was getting pretty noticeable, and needless to say all my memories of standing alone at recess with no one to play with came rushing back to me.  I decided to try out Keranique.  They have a whole line geared toward thinning hair, with shampoo, conditioner, styling products, and treatments.

I tried the Hair Regrowth Treatment ($25) with 2% Minoxidil, which  happens to be the only FDA-approved treatment that is clinically proven to regrow hair.  It’s the ingredient in Rogaine, although Rograine has 5% Minoxidilil which is the recommended level for men.  Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment is for women as the recommended level for us is 2%.

It works.

Please remember that if you are losing hair, you should see your doctor first.  There are lots of reasons why women experience hair loss, and you need to see a professional to make sure it’s not the symptom of a bigger issue.  Also,  this treatment is not for patchy bald spots, it is for thinning hair.

The bottle has a dropper applicator, and the solution is a very thin liquid.  Every morning and night, I put about a half a dropper full directly onto my part.  It was wet going on, and I had to be careful it didn’t spill onto my face (just FYI, it tastes awful).  It didn’t make any difference in my hair style, I wash my hair every other day and it looked just fine after the Keranique dried.

After about 15 days, the space in my part was less noticeable.  I had found that up by my bangs had more improvement, a good thing since that was the area with the most thinning to begin with.  After 30 days, my hair almost looked back to normal.

The bummer with this product is that you have to continue to use it indefinitely to keep the new hair growth.  So if it is successful for you, know that you will be purchasing this for life in order to keep the results.

The complete Keranique system can be purchased online at  You can also buy the items individually or in kits at  – Lisa
