Dare to bare arms with Kate Somerville Body Glow Sunscreen

kate somerville body-glow_carton_tubeHow many of you avoid tank tops because they show your arms?  I used to have such great arms…but a few months ago I caught a glimpse in the mirror while wearing a tank top and thought, are you kidding?  That can’t be me!!  I decided no more tank tops in public.  Just forget it.  Soon after, Kate Somerville sent her Body Glow Sunscreen ($45) and suddenly tank tops in public became possible again.

So everyone knows that sunscreen is a must, and this lightweight body lotion has stabilized avobenzone so it has all the broad spectrum protection I need.  This means it’s anti-aging, and it has some terrific antioxidant ingredients that fight free radicals and keep skin looking younger.  The really effective antioxidants include vitamin E, algae extract, and rosemary extract.  Body Glow Sunscreen also has caffeine for firming and improved texture with regular use.

The Body Glow Sunscreen has a beautifully smooth and light texture that soaks in quickly and doesn’t leave a heavy, tacky feel.  It still is a serious moisturizer, though, with mango and shea butter doing the heavy-duty dry skin repair.   The broad spectrum protection, antioxidants, lightweight texture and excellent moisturizing ability are enough to convince me…but it’s the light reflective pearls that truly sell me on this sunscreen moisturizer.  Body Glow Sunscreen gives skin a golden shimmery gleam that makes saggy, wrinkled, and unattractive and imperfect skin suddenly look fantastic.  The glow isn’t exactly natural, but it certainly isn’t overdone to disco ball proportions.

The only issues with Kate Somerville Body Glow Sunscreen are the fragrance, which is a very light floral that could be an issue for those with sensitivity, and the price which is on the expensive side.  But let me assure you, you get what you pay for with this first-rate sunscreen glowtion.

If you want to keep the right to bare arms (or legs or chest or whatever you dare to bare), I highly suggest picking up this nifty body lotion that protects the skin from the sun, fights free-radicals, moisturizes and adds a beautiful glow.  – Lisa

Getting intense with Kate Somerville Quench Hydrating Face Serum

You know how the motto for real estate is ‘location, location, location’?  I think the motto for awesome skin is ‘hydration, hydration, hydration’!  The fabulous Kate Somerville sent us her best-selling Quench Hydrating Face Serum (1 fl.oz $75), and intense hydration quickly ensued.

Every time I use this serum (which is twice a day, morning and night) I sing that Cher song in my head…If I could turn back time...  I really do feel like I am turning back the clock and finding younger looking skin.  Quench Hydrating Serum is retinol based, and it does amazing things:

  • HSC Complex is designed to deliver intense hydration, while counteracting environmental stressors.
  • An intense form of Vitamin A helps to promote healthier-looking skin and return skin to its youthful appearance by boosting the skin renewal process.
  • Lipids—the key to younger-looking skin—are included to help improve elasticity and firmness.

The silicone-based serum sinks in quickly and leaves my skin so soft and moisturized, it’s positively luxurious.  It is fantastic on the neck and decolletage for a silky, satiny appearance that looks terrific.  The packaging couldn’t be better.  An airless pump keeps all those antioxidants and cell-communicating ingredients stable and effective, plus it has a see-through strip on the side so you can see how much product is left.  To top off the awesomeness, the serum is fragrance-free.

Top 10 Tuesday picks favorite eye creams

Give me eye cream now! Give me eye balm immediately! Give me eye serums ASAP. If it’s for the delicate eye area I want it. I’ve reviewed a lot of eye creams so picking just 10 (or 9 as you’ll see) was extremely difficult. Some came to mind instantly because I’m either using them or I’ve bought them again. Others are ones I really enjoyed but picking between them was a difficult choice. My Top Ten are ones I would recommend without a doubt so let’s see what they are:

1. ALGENIST EYE RENEWAL BALM –  I’m on my second jar of the Algenist plus I’ve used up some sample sizes. This is the first eye cream I thought of when we picked this topic. I chose this for my desert island Beauty Spotlight Team and I’d chose it again.

2. KATE SOMERVILLE KateCeuticals MULTI-ACTIVE EYE CREAM – Kate Somerville makes more than one eye cream. I’m sure they are all wonderful but this one is the most wonderful. My eyes drank this up and begged for more. If you are looking for true anti-aging properties, splurge on this.

3. SOMME INSTITUTE EYE – I’ve repurchased every product from Somme Institute. At first I didn’t repurchase EYE but as soon as I was done with it, I missed it. Even though it doesn’t contain SPF it’s one of my favorite daytime eye creams. It’s lightweight and concealer doesn’t crease when I mix it with Somme Eye. Watch for this on Hautelook.

4. SENNA LIFT AND LIGHTEN EYE CREAM – It’s been four years since I reviewed this Senna Eye Cream but I haven’t forgotten it. I bought a second jar at IMATS because I love how it lightens my dark circles and hydrates under my eyes. Plus it’s still only $28 even after all this time.

5. YBF CORRECT – Simple name, not so simple protect. Your Best Face (YBF) tells you succinctly what their products will do and then they prove it by doing research and using the best ingredients to make sure their products work. Correct works!

6. YES TO BLUEBERRIES EYE FIRMING TREATMENT – This is my latest eye cream. I’ve been using it daily for about 6 weeks and I can’t bring myself to move on. It totally surprised me since I’m not a mass market skincare person in general but this has kept my eyes looking less lined, my dark circles at bay and has rid me of morning puffiness. For $15-20 (depending on where you buy it) this is a must to try.

7. LIFT LAB LIFT & FIRM EYE CREAM – The gel like texture of Lift Lab’s Eye Cream is very soothing. It’s lightweight and you don’t even realize you have it on during the daytime. What you will realize is how soft the skin around your eyes feels and how your puffiness isn’t really noticeable.

8. EXUVIANCE AGE REVERSE EYE CONTOUR – The name tells you one of the reasons I like this. I won this in a giveaway almost 4 years ago and wish I had it again. My memory is short when it comes to “why did I come into this room” but not on eye creams. It helps firm the collagen around eyes. I need this again.

9. DERMAdoctor WRINKLE REVENGE RESCUE & PROTECT EYE BALM – This does it all. It moisturizes, firms, reduces puffiness, helps eliminate dark circles, helps with fine lines and bakes cookies. Ok, I’m kidding about the cookies but it would if it could. It’s thicker than most of the others I’ve mentioned but sometimes you need that.

10. EYES by TO GO SPA EYE MASKS – I’m cheating. I can’t help it. When you need a way to make your eyes look less lined and more relaxed you want something like an eye mask. I’ve tried and loved quite a few but I always go back to EYES by ToGoSpa. They now have 3 varieties and it’s hard to pick which you want but you won’t go wrong with any of them. These are collagen eye masks that you want any time you want to look your best.

Kate Somerville Deep Tissue Repair Cream with Peptide K8

Kate Somerville Deep Tissue Repair

Kate Somerville Deep Tissue Repair with Peptide K8

I remember when Kate Somerville first came out with her skin care line. I stood at the department store counter, practically salivating as I weighed my options. I ultimately did ‘eeny-meeny-miny-moe’ just so I could finally make a decision. I’ve been a huge fan ever since, and was totally geeked when the BIZ received the Deep Tissue Repair with Peptide K8 ($150) to test. The Deep Tissue Repair is an emollient moisturizer with peptides that hydrate even the driest skin, leaving it beautifully soft and smooth.

I absolutely love the airless jar packaging. Just push on the top and the moisturizer comes through the little hole without exposing the entire contents to the environment. It’s easy to pump out the right amount and, by protecting the moisturizer from the air and sun, the jar keeps the good stuff inside fresh and effective.

terrific packaging

The airless jar packaging…

Kate Somerville Deep Tissue Repair

…gives just the right amount of product

The Peptide K8™ soothes skin and improves texture, while also reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. The ingredient list is full of non-fragrant plant oils that hold moisture in the skin, keeping it plumped up and hydrated.

I use this after cleansing in the morning and at night, usually layered over my treatment serum. Mornings I put a sunscreen over top because while this moisturizes, it’s not sun protection. I love the results and my skin is very, very happy.

Next time you are standing in front of the Kate Somerville display at the department store, there’s no need to play eeny-meeny-miny-moe – just choose Deep Tissue Repair with Peptide K8 and you will be happy!  – Lisa

Two eye creams from Kate Somerville – you’ll have trouble choosing just one!

kate somerville logoToday’s Kate Somerville review is going to make you a little crazy. We have two eye creams to tempt you with and when you are done reading you won’t know which to choose. But we are sure you will want to select one since they are that good. Kate Somerville is a wonderful line for those of us that want anti-aging products. Your eye area is usually the first place that show lines. We hear about women in their 20’s who are already concerned with fine lines and crow’s feet and that only increases as you get older. But you can help stave away the years with the Kate Somerville line.

As Kate Somerville says: Smooth and soften fragile skin to fight the signs of time.

The delicate contours around the eyes and lips are often the first to reveal fine lines. Yet, a little extra care – and the right blend of sophisticated ingredients – can yield remarkably renewing results. My highly effective eye and lip treatments utilize advanced anti-aging formulas that work hard to repair and revive.

Marcia’s eye cream:

Kate Somerville KateCeuticals Multi-Active Repair Eye Cream

Kate Somerville KateCeuticals Multi-Active Repair Eye Cream

I am so lucky that I have been able to test KateCeuticals Multi-Active Repair Eye Cream. This is such a luxury product and one that makes me feel like my under eye area is more youthful appearing than ever. The KateCeuticals products are a particular segment of Kate Somerville. This is the creme de la crème of her already amazing line. KateCeuticals are age-defying products created to leave us illuminated and healthier looking. They contain high-performance ingredients and Anti-aging Actives to improve the appearance of firmness and combined them with luxurious Fruit Extracts and powerful Antioxidants to restore and renew skin.

I’m totally in love with the fact that Multi-Active Repair Eye Cream is able to lift the appearance of the skin under my eyes and make the area look less lined. I’m very critical when I take pictures of my eyes for the blog and have cut back on photos because of that. But I’m noticing a rejuvenation that is thrilling me.

the airless top

the airless top

This eye cream ($135) is in a wonderful airless container. I push down gently on the top and out comes the perfect amount to pat under both eyes. If I push too hard and get too much I’ll just use the excess on the driest sections of my face. I’m not going to waste a precious drop of this.

One push down is enough for both eyes

There are 6 powerful ingredients that make Multi-Active Repair stand out from the crowd. It is loaded with Peptides to prevent the breakdown of elastin as well as add major hydration to the eye area. 1) Commiphora Mukul Resin Extract (from an Indian tree well-known in Ayurvedic medicine) helps plump the skin from the inside. 2) Blackberry Leaf Extract inhibits the breakdown of collagen  3) Natural Sugar Beet Root Extract then promotes collagen production and adds moisturization. 4) Long term hydration is aided by a special blend of Soybean Lipid Extracts. 5) Natural Herbal Extracts improve luminosity as well as evens out skin texture and tone. 6) To help with undereye puffiness there’s caffeine in the formula. And as if that weren’t enough there are Color-Correcting Micro Pearls that minimize the appearance of dark circles.

KateCeuticals Multi-Active Repair Eye Cream

KateCeuticals Multi-Active Repair Eye Cream

This is an extremely smooth eye cream that works well both day and night. I like to put it on early in my skincare routine and find it doesn’t interfere with makeup. After it soaks in for a short time (less than a minute), my undereye area feels softer than ever and is ready for me to use a concealer. While this is an expensive product, I don’t believe in skimping on the skin under my eyes. I want to remain youthful looking for as long as possible and KateCeuticals Multi-Active Repair Eye Cream is a product that I want in to use in my fight against Father Time and Mother Nature.

Lisa’s eye cream:

Well, I must say Marcia, your eye cream sounds pretty terrific. However, I am head over heels in love with the eye cream sent for me to review by Kate Somerville, the Line Release™ Under Eye Repair Cream ($125). Yes, it’s pricey, but the bottle lasts forever and this is an eye cream that really does what it promises.

Kate Somerville Line Release

Kate Somerville Line Release Under Eye Repair Cream

The Kate Somerville Line Release™ Under Eye Repair Cream firms the under eye area, reduces puffiness, and brightens dark circles. It is moisturizing enough to soothe dry skin and not so heavy that it won’t work for very oily skin. It has a silicone base so it’s wonderful to use before applying makeup. The packaging is absolutely perfect, with an airless pump that also had a really cool see-through strip on the side so you can actually see how much product is left!

This elegant eye cream has no fragrance, which is a huge plus. The silicones leave skin super soft and the ingredients include tons of cell-communicating ingredients, antioxidants, and ceramides.

Kate Somerville says, “In a clinical test*, Line Release™ Under Eye Repair Cream instantly firmed, lifted, and smoothed the appearance of skin. This unbelievably lightweight formula diminishes the appearance of fine lines around the eyes, leaving you rejuvenated and refreshed.

  • Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 is intended to make the eyes appear lifted and more contoured.
  • Tripeptide reduces the visible depth of expression lines.
  • Matrixyl™ 3000 is formulated to significantly reduce the look of puffiness and dark circles.
  • Light Diffusing Pearls help minimize the look of dark circles and illuminate the entire eye area.
  • Vitamins A, C, and E provide a powerful Antioxidant boost to skin.
  • Soybean protein moisturizes skin.
  • Cucumber Extract conditions and soothes skin.

* Results based on an independent Clinical Study.”

Based upon my independent testing, I would have to agree.  This is a terrific eye cream.

Now that you’ve seen these two and read about our individual love for them, which would you choose? Believe us, there’s no wrong answer!

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream – cosmetics from the queen of skincare

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream

Kate Somerville is the queen of skincare. Say her name and legions of skincare fanatics have their eyes light up. Everyone I know is interested in Kate Somerville skincare and wants to know more about it. But I have a surprising product for you, one I wouldn’t have expected from her line – Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream (Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA+++). I just don’t think of a cosmetic product when I’m thinking of the Kate Somerville line but she did indeed create one that is pretty fab. In actuality this is a crossbreed of cosmetics and skincare so you get a double dose of great.

The IllumiKate CC Cream is loaded with the skincare ingredients you want on your skin.

-Albatin, Licorice Extract, and Arbutin: Help to brighten the appearance of discoloration.
-Sodium Hyaluronate: Minimizes water loss and improves the appearance of skin.
-Chicory Root Extract: Helps to improve the integrity of the skin’s natural barrier function.

It has fabulous broad spectrum sunscreen coverage with these ingredients: Octinoxate 7.5%, Octisalate 5%, Oxybenzone 3%, and Titanium Dioxide 6.6%.

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream

But what you really want to know is how it works as a CC Cream. Because of the skincare ingredients and the high SPF it’s a double duty product that I think of it more as a skincare item. It does color correct, which is what a CC Cream is all about though. It has buildable coverage so if you find the right shade then it would be a great CC Cream to own. On Sephora it’s available in 4 shades: Fair – fair skintones warm to neutral; Light – light skintones neutral to cool; Light-Medium – light medium skintones neutral; and Medium – medium to tan skintones with neutral to warm undertones. I wrote a little about this CC Cream in my winter foundation Makeup Wars article and said how I mix it with a touch of a lighter concealer to get a shade that’s a little better for me. At the time I didn’t realize that it also came in Extra Fair on the KS website, now that I do I have a solution to this minor dilemma.

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream in Fair

The product is a little thick when it first comes out of the tube but as it warms up it blends in beautifully.  I’m amazed at what a small amount I need to cover my skin. It has a slight dewy finish to it which I love. Since it’s winter I’m getting away using this without any powder and I like that.

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream info

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream info

I start with a serum and for this winter weather I’m following that with a moisturizer. Besides being a little thick the Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream is also a little dry feeling. That means I don’t break out with the oilies in my t-zone. In the warmer weather I doubt I’ll use a moisturizer but I will use some type of serum.

So what do we have?

1) A terrific sunscreen of SPF 50 PA+++ with broad spectrum protection

2) Skincare ingredients that help brighten discoloration as well as excellent moisturizing properties

3) A color corrector in the form of a CC Cream which you can use alone for color or use as a starter point for foundation

4) Kate Somerville – enough said!

5) Oh and it has a lovely light citrus fragrance that disappears (a little too soon if you ask me)

I think that adds up to a pretty great product if you can find the proper tone for your skin. I like this kind of math!  — Marcia

Makeup Wars – heavenly foundations

makeup-wars.jpg~original

This week the Makeup War bloggers have decided to take on foundations again. It’s not a new subject for us, or any bloggers, but since we are such fickle pickles most of us change our minds more often than the typical pickle. I have a box filled (or overfilled) with foundation, BB Cream and CC Cream. Choosing which to share was actually easier than I thought since I looked at my vanity and saw 6 bottles and tubes that I’d been switching between for the last several months. So that’s what you see here (along with my laundry room!).

Makeup Wars Heavenly Foundation picks February 2014 @beautyinfozone

Makeup Wars Heavenly Foundation picks February 2014 @beautyinfozone

There are 3 foundations that have been in heavy rotation. These are the items I’ve used the most in January especially.

Makeup Wars foundations: Senna Lasting Illusion, Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Revitalizing Foundation, Lancome Teint Miracle

Makeup Wars foundations: Senna Lasting Illusion, Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Revitalizing Foundation, Lancome Teint Miracle

Senna Lasting Illusion Satin Matte Foundation – I recently reviewed this and to be honest it’s been on my face almost constantly the last few weeks. I’m crazy about the finish of this foundation. It’s the fullest of the three I’m sharing but it’s not so full that it’s mask-like. It covers my imperfections beautifully and lasts wonderfully even in the harsh weather we’ve had in Michigan. I can’t get over how much I like it. I have new items to review but I don’t want to put this away.

Eddie Funkhouser Luxlight Revitalizing Foundation – I need to write a review of this soon. This is the lightest weight, sheerest of the foundations shown but some days that’s exactly what I need. You can build this up to give a fuller coverage though. It’s a beautiful luminizing finish. It comes in 6 shades and it’s only $14.99.

Lancome Teint Miracle – I’ve had this particular bottle at least 3 years but it’s just as good as ever. I know some people wouldn’t keep it that long but as a blogger I am constantly switching and testing. Yet I come back to Teint Miracle often. If I’m asked about Lancome this is what I recommend too. It’s available in an amazing 31 shades so there’s something for everyone here. When I first reviewed it (January 2012) it was available in 16 shades. They’ve since doubled the amount of shades and raised the price $6. I will most likely rebuy this with the right gwp some day.

Makeup Wars Foundations - CC Cream version with It Cosmetics, Kate Somerville Illumikate CC, Pur Minerals

Makeup Wars Foundations – CC Cream version with It Cosmetics, Kate Somerville Illumikate CC, Pur Minerals

My BB creams are all put away for now but 3 of the CC Creams I have are still playing a big part in my rotation. I use these often when I’m in a hurry because they contain skincare elements and SPF but I also use them because I love the finish of them.

IT Cosmetics Your Skin but Better CC+ Cream has been mentioned by me so often that you are probably tired of the repetition. But when something is this good, it’s worth me telling you over and over. As much as I love this brand and want to recommend it all to you, this is my absolute favorite product from them. This fickle pickle has told you other products were her favorite but this is the true favorite. When I first reviewed it was summer, now it’s winter and it’s still just as wonderful.

Kate Somerville IllumiKate CC Cream is my newest CC Cream and it’s another winner. This only comes in 4 shades though. I was sent this in Fair to review but it’s still a little dark. The solution for me is to take some of my tarte maracuja concealer and mix them, about 1/3 concealer to 2/3 IllumiKate. That color works and I have this beautiful glow that has SPF 50. Look for a full review very soon on this.

Pur Minerals CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is another favorite that works for me year round. I’ve worn this in all seasons except spring and my skin loves it in all of those seasons. The consistency is mousse-like and spreads so easily.

This fickle pickle is officially declaring these 6 products her favorite foundation picks. But don’t be surprised to hear of more later though since I have a few more products to review for you. Fickleness can be delightful!! Have you worn any of these 6? If not which would you most want to try? — Marcia

Please read what these other lovely ladies have decided to share with us. Sharing is caring!
