Love it or leave it? Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops

Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops

Normally I stay away adding oil to my face. I happen to have a bit of a paranoia about being shiny…my friends tease me because I constantly ask, “Is my nose shiny? Do I need to powder my nose??” So the thought of actually adding oil to my face does not sound appealing. However….the thought of adding a lovely, glowing radiance to my skin DOES sound appealing. In the interest of science and my curiosity-killed-the-cat personality, I actually couldn’t wait to try Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops ($48).

Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops

Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops are “a makeup priming, holographic highlighting treatment oil powered by Josie’s quick-absorbing 100% Pure Argan Oil Light and pore-smoothing priming pearls for boosted elasticity, glowy radiance, and makeup-ready skin.” Essentially, it’s a highlighting oil that you can apply directly to the skin as a primer, or you can mix with moisturizer or foundation.

Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops

Josie Maran Argan Moonstone Drops

The first time I used it was a disaster. I used WAY too much. I had Moonstone Drops dripping off my face, horror show style. The second time I used one drop and it was heavenly. Just the right amount of radiance and it definitely worked as a primer, holding my foundation in place. It didn’t make my nose shiny as I had feared and yet it still gave my dry areas some much needed hydration. My skin looked beautiful – glowy, healthy, and happy.  Yes!!

I also like mixing a bit of this with my matte foundations for some depth, and on no-makeup days it’s great to mix with my moisturizer. A little bit goes a very long way, so the price isn’t bad. I give it a big thumbs up now that I know how to use it correctly!  This is a definite love, not a leave.

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eye Shadow in Playa Del Pink

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow

Cream eyeshadow past the age of 40 typically isn’t a good idea. Any bags or wrinkles are not only highlighted, they are amplified!  However, Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow ($18) is an exception to the rule.

This creamy eyeshadow comes in a little glass jar.  Initially, you see the Argan-infused pigment resting on the bottom underneath coconut water. Shake it up, and the beautiful gleaming shade appears.  Josie Maran recently sent me the Playa Del Pink shade to test and it is stunning.

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadows

The Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow is definitely not a powder, not exactly a cream, not quite a gel…it has a feel and texture all its own. It applies quite wet and dries down quickly, obviously taking a little longer with a thicker application.  I love the versatility as it can be applied as a sheer wash or thicker for some opaque drama.

Since most creamy eyeshadows last for about an hour on me, I was completely surprised with the fantastic staying power of this unique eyeshadow.

It lasts all day with no creasing and minimal fading even without an eye primer.

I like the doe foot applicator and typically use it to apply the eyeshadow.  I use a finger to smooth and blend; some gentle tapping is all it takes.

Playa Del Pink

Playa Del Pink

Playa Del Pink is a metallic, bronzey pink that isn’t too frosty for my middle-aged eyes. In fact, it is downright glowy and is one of the few eyeshadows I will wear all by itself.

Wearing Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow in Playa Del Pink

Wearing Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow in Playa Del Pink

In the pics above I am wearing nothing but Playa Del Pink, along with Bobbi Brown Sepia Gel Eyeliner and Paula’s Choice Fantastic Lash Mascara. Well, I do have clothes on too, just in case you were wondering.

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow not only looks great on mature eyes, it even improves their appearance over time.

In consumer studies: 90% agree that eyelids appear smoother, 90% agree eyes look less crepey, 80% agree eyes feel more hydrated.

I adore my Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow and am lusting after the other five shades, especially Bora Bora Bronze and Beach Sand.  Regardless of your age, this is a cream eyeshadow worth checking out.  – Lisa

Spring blush the Makeup Wars way

Spring blush favorites

Spring blush favorites

Makeup Wars is back to redden your cheeks, bring a flush to your face and enchant you with beautiful blush. We’ve picked some of our favorites that are gracing our cheeks this spring and into the summer. I’ve chosen 9 but I could have chosen 90 most likely.

If you are a Beauty Info Zone reader then you know that I love cream blush. I’m much more likely to buy a cream blush than a powder one so I’m starting with my springiest creams.

Tarte, Maybelline, Face Stockholm, Josie Maran, Make Up For Ever

Tarte, Maybelline, Face Stockholm, Josie Maran, Make Up For Ever

1. Tarte cheek stains come in 8 shades and you’ll have a tough time picking out a favorite. I chose Fearless since that’s the one I’ve been using the most lately. It’s a pinky coral and seems to look great with almost every eye look I choose.

2. Maybelline Master Glaze Cream Blush Stick in Pink Fever is my version of Radiant Orchid in a blush. It’s one of the best buys of the year for me since I love the longevity of the product, the perky color and the price. I need to pick up more of these.

3. Face Stockholm Creme Blush in London is getting a lot of love these days. I took a new picture for this review but I’ve used it so much that it looked raggedy. It’s a papaya shade that looks super bright in pictures and swatches but not on my face. I use a light touch when applying this long lasting color.

4. Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise is a blush that just doesn’t want to swatch for me. It’s described as ‘warm toned hot pink’ which is a great, if confusing, description. It feels cooling when you apply it. The Cheek Gelee can be used alone or as a stain to wear under a powder if you find blush fades on you. I just might have purchased Pink Escape during the Sephora 15% off sale.

5. Make Up For Ever HD Second Skin Cream Blush in 210 but I easily could have picked 225 and 330 since the 3 I have are scrumptious. I love the colors of these. They are so smooth and as Lisa said “DREAMY”. We’ve reviewed 6 of these and can’t praise them enough. Find a color (or 5) that you love and you’ll never be sorry.

I’m no slacker when it comes to powder blush and have a small mountain of those too. The 4 I’ve chosen are the ones I’m finding most versatile for spring.

6. TheBalm InStain in Argyle is my latest buy. I purchased it from Hautelook and will purchase more the next time they are on sale. I love the color of Argyle (petal pink) and I love not only how smoothly it applies but it has amazing longevity. It does have stain-like qualities. The pigmentation is intense even though Argyle is the lightest shade available.

7. Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Cheek in Parasol is absolutely beautious. I constantly express my love for the Dollskin Cream blushes so I was excited to receive this powder blush. It’s as amazing as the cream blushes. Parasol is so soft and cream like. It has a gorgeous glow to it. Tarina Tarantino describes it as shimmering bright pink coral. I describe it as beautiful.

8. Senna Sheer Face Color in Pink Diva is the sweetest pink of the group. When I want a pink that’s pink this is what I pick. While the name says sheer, the blush isn’t sheer. It’s loaded with cool tones of pinkness.

9. Eddie Funkhouser Ultra Intensity Cheek Color in A Little Toasted doesn’t appear to be a blush you’d choose for spring but it’s great for that very reason. I sometimes need a very neutral shade and this is a neutral. There’s a brownish mauve tinge to it that was hard to capture but it’s there. It’s almost like a contour color for my fair skin.
