My kids are always begging my husband and me to tell stories of how we met, what happened when we got engaged, what the marriage ceremony was like. Moments like these are not only special in our own memories, they also frame the lives of loved ones and become part of a rich tapestry that is the family history shared through generations.
I remember taking months to pick out the perfect engagement ring. The ring is a gorgeous symbol of our commitment and every time I look at it, I remember my husband’s proposal. The engagement ring has a long history that is truly fascinating. It all began in prehistoric times in 44000 BC, when men would put braided cords made out of grass around their woman’s wrists or ankles to ‘bring the female’s spirit under his control’. Ancient Egyptians were ones who brought a little more romance into it, creating the symbolism of the ring with the circle signifying endless love and the empty center signifying the gateway to the future.
How do I know so much about this? I have recently collaborated with the international jewelry online retailer, Vashi. They created a terrific illustrated guide to the History of the Engagement Ring. Check it out here: http://www.vashi.com/
Head over to the Vashi website for astoundingly beautiful engagement rings, wedding rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. You can choose from their wide selection or even design your own. And be sure to take a look at the super cool History of the Engagement Ring to find out just how many months’ salary a man should be spending on that ring. – Lisa
