What are your favorite liners? Makeup Wars shares

Favorite eyeliners and lipliners

Eyeliners and lipliners are the stars of the show this week and I’ve got a lot of pictures to share. I like lipliners but I don’t use them all the time but I don’t go out without eyeliner. That’s my jam and I absolutely must have it on if anyone other than my immediate family is going to see me. My eyes totally disappear otherwise.

I was a huge gel eyeliner fan for years. I’d use almost nothing else. I had every MAC and Bobbi Brown one and then started collecting other brands. I was sure that gel eyeliners were going to be all that I used. And then I had an epiphany. Eddie Funkhouser came into my life with his Ultra Definition Eye Lining Stylus and that was it. Yes I still used my gels but the more I used the black liquid eyeliner from Eddie Funkhouser the more I grew to love liquid liners.

Eddie Funkhouser Ultra Defnition Eye Lining Stylus

Eddie Funkhouser Ultra Defnition Eye Lining Stylus

The tip of a liquid eyeliner is what is most important to me and the tip on this EF one is what all others get compared too. It’s thin yet firm. Some liquid liners have squishy styluses but not Eddie. The ultra black ink flows without skipping. I can do a line once and not have to go back over it. At the end of the day with this and all others though I do usually have to add more on the bottom lashline since my eyes water a little.

Physician’s Formula Eye Booster and Eddie Funkhouser Ultra Definition Eye Lining Stylus

After my experience with Eddie’s black liner I bought a ridiculous amount of brown liquid liners until I found my favorite: Physician’s Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum (aka PF). Of all the brown liquid liners this is the one I’ve bought half a dozen times including just this past weekend. Although it’s available in black, ultra black and deep brown I’ve only purchased deep brown. Between Eddie Funkhouser and PF I’m in eyeliner heaven.

liquid eyeliner swatches

Other brown liquid liners I recommend are Jesse’s Girl, Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Mad Max Brown, and Youngblood Marron. All 3 of these have worked great for me. I have backups of the Youngblood, PF, and Eddie Funkhouser since I’m going nowhere without them.

Pencil eyeliners from MAC, Eddie Funkhouser, and Painted Earth

Pencil eyeliners in my house outnumber the amount of lipsticks too even though I don’t use them often. I do have three favorites though that I think are beautiful.

Pencil eyeliners from MAC, Eddie Funkhouser, and Painted Earth

I used to wear only MAC eye pencils before I became enamored with gel liners. MAC Black Russian remains a favorite and one of the few I use. It’s a black blue with teeny sparkles and really adds a twinkle. But of course it’s discontinued so I’ll savor mine. Eddie Funkhouser’s Graffiti Cream Eyeliner is an excellent black pencil that wears well on the waterline, can be smudged, and lasts on me! I love Painted Earth Superwear Gel Liner in Baroque. The color is stunning with it’s metallic golden brown hue. Another I have backups of. The other shades are great too but it’s Baroque that’s so unique.

Jane Iredale Mystikol liner in Dark Topaz

Jane Iredale Mystikol liner in Dark Topaz

Jane Iredale Mystikol liner in Dark Topaz

I haven’t forgotten gel eyeliners and I do use them often. My newest is Jane Iredale Mystikol in Dark Topaz. I bought this after reading Lola’s Secret Beauty Blog about the one she has in black. This is a beautiful golden brown with a built in brush that is actually great to use. It’s become my go to for gel eyeliner (even though it’s called Mystikol Powdered Eyeliner).

Wet n Wild Perfectpout Gel Lip Liners

Lipliners are the second part of this post. Last week I found a display with Wet n’ wild Perfectpout Gel Lip Liners ($3.19 each) at CVS (They are $2.99 on the wnw site). Since my local CVS stores never have anything new from WnW I grabbed these up and plan to go back for another one.

Wet n Wild Perfectpout Gel Lip Liners

My bathroom light where I’ve been taking pictures is very yellow so these aren’t totally true but Bare to Comment is a great nude lipliner. These are wind up so no sharpening needed. Gel liners, whether eye or lip, can dry out quickly so be careful to keep the top snapped in place. Since you can’t swatch you have to guess but at this price (and a CVS coupon) you can’t lose out. Never Petal Down is a great pink.

Lipliner favorites

More lipliner favorites though a lot are discontinued: Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk which is a great nude and works well with my 2 CT lipsticks and others, Estee Lauder Midnight Plum (discontinued) and the only dark lipliner I actually use, Shiseido 702 and Brun Mauve (both discontinued but there are other great shades).

Lipliner favorites

Make Up For Ever Aqua Lips in 14C (Light Rosewood) is another great one for nude lips, Mary Kay Dusty Pink which is old as the hills and I was so upset when it was discontinued though I bought 3 more on Ebay within the last year, Mally Nude Light is a gel lipliner that’s glossy and fun to wear, and Lancome Charme.

And now you know my liner secrets! If I was forced to narrow this down it would be hard but Eddie Funkhouser liquid liner in black, Physician’s Formula liquid liner in brown, and Mary Kay’s discontinued Dusty Pink lipliner would be the ones you couldn’t wrest from my little hands!  —  Marcia

I hope you find more liners from my friends:

Makeup Wars and lipstick = perfect combinations

Makeup Wars is always a fun time because you get to see what many bloggers enjoy in one topic. When you mention lipstick or liquid lipstick or lip gloss to a blogger you get some happy women. I’m sharing some of my recent acquisitions to see if there are colors or brands that will make your lips and heart go pitter patter.

Models Own, PUR Cosmetics, Jane Iredale

Not to play favorites but it’s typical to like some colors and formulas better than others and one that really has my attention is Jane Iredale PlayOn Lip Crayon in Hot. I love easy and to me lip crayons are easy personified.

Jane Iredale PlayOn Lip Crayon in Hot

Jane Iredale PlayOn Lip Crayons are available in 7 shades. They are so creamy and just glide on. There’s no fragrance or scent to these and they are cruelty free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, phthalate-free, and oil-free. I don’t normally choose a red lip but Hot can be applied with different intensities to make it look more of a pinky red.

Jane Iredale PlayOn Lip Crayon in Hot

These are moisturizing, nourished with Vitamin E, and make my lips feel comfortable. I can add a gloss over it for more fun. I may be showcasing this in summer but it’s going to be an all year round lippie for me.

Next up PUR Cosmetics has two formulas I’ve worn this summer: Velvet Matte and Chrome Glaze. They are as different as night and day but each has its special attributes.

PUR Cosmetics Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick and Chrome Glaze Lip Gloss

PUR Cosmetics Velvet Matte has a mousse like texture so it’s not as drying as I find many matte lipsticks to be. While it’s definitely a matte on my lips it feels very pliable and my lips don’t shrivel up. I have this in Obsessed which is considered a soft pink, it’s not a pastel though. Any time I wear a liquid matte I have to take my time to apply my lips since it’s not slapdash. A liner helps keep it in place so I don’t make mistakes.

PUR Cosmetics Velvet Matte in Obsessed

PUR Cosmetics also has Chrome Glaze High Shine Lip Glosses and this is more my style. I have this in Heartbreaker and it’s an amazing shade for me. I can wear this gel formula alone or even better apply it over my Velvet Matte lip for shiny beauty.

PUR Cosmetics Chrome Glaze in Heartbreaker

PUR describes Heartbreaker as “perfect pink” and it is the perfect pink for me. Not too bright, not too pale, just right! It’s a longer lasting gloss formula but like all glosses it’s going to have to be reapplied.

PUR Cosmetics Obsessed Velvet Matte and Heartbreaker Chrome Glaze

I don’t know how long PUR’s special lasts but using the code LIPSTICK can get you 3 lip products for $20 so that’s a deal you want to hop on.

As you may know ULTA has enhanced their stores and website with some amazing new brands. One of those brands is Model’s Own. This British brand has stormed the US with some innovative products. The prices are great so it’s a fun brand to explore.

Models Own LIX Matte Liquid Lipstick in Strawberry Mojito and Raspberry Mojito

Model’s Own LIX Matte Liquid Lipstick comes in 6 shades for only $7.99 each. If you love matte you’ll love Model’s Own. It’s the mattest of any matte I’ve ever tried. It has a minty fragrance to it that I find refreshing but there is a tingle with it that you’ll notice for a few minutes. Make sure your lips are exfoliated before wearing LIX since something this matte is going to show everything. The smoother your lips are, the better Models Own LIX will apply.

Models Own LIX Matte Liquid Lipstick in Strawberry Mojito and Raspberry Mojito

I love the packaging of these. It surely attracts attention. They also have some heft to them. Strawberry Mojito is a bright red on me with orange undertones, I mostly see the red once on. Raspberry Mojito is a dark berry on my lips though it swatches with more purple. LIX are very intense on me. You have to really like a bold matte lip to appreciate these two shades.

Models Own LIX Matte Liquid Lipstick in Strawberry Mojito and Raspberry Mojito

I’m going to put a plug in for Eddie Funkhouser Hyperreal Nourishing Lipsticks that I just reviewed since these are the lipsticks I’m getting a lot of use out of this summer. Plus I have a giveaway going on so you could win some!

Welcoming spring with Jane Iredale’s newest collection

jane iredale spring collection

The sun is finally shining and spring flowers are starting to pop up. While the BIZ team loves those signs of spring, an even greater sign is this collection from Jane Iredale that we were sent.

This Spring Color collection is aptly named Makeup on Nude and contains 2 peachy pink eyeshadow trios, 2 new Pure Moist lipsticks, a new cream blush stick, and a new Peaches & Cream Bronzer. Sounds and looks beautiful.jane iredale look

Jane Iredale’s philosophy is that cosmetics should be good for your skin and easy to apply. “Her goal is to make products that look good, feel good and are good for the skin.  Products must be easy to apply, as well, so that a woman can be her best in the shortest amount of time.” She achieved this in her latest collection. Thank you Jane!

Jane Iredale spring: Candid Cream blush, Pink Quartz eyeshadow trio, Peaches & Cream bronzer refill

When Lisa and I divided these up I grabbed the InTouch Cream Blush in Candid. Years ago I had this in Clarity and loved it. These blushes are small but mighty. They are perfect to take with you because they’ll fit in your purse/makeup bag without being bulky. The tube may be short but the top is perfect for application. This just glides on and smooths out easily. It’s not a tacky blush because it’s a cream to powder formula.

Candid is one of 5 shades and one I highly recommend for spring. It contains just the right amount of peach to make it spring perfect. My favorite cream blushes have always been from Jane Iredale and this is no exception. Most cream blushes aren’t in it for the long run but Candid In Touch Cream Blush sticks around. I love the color and I love that there’s no fragrance.

Mineral Quad Bronzer in Peaches & Cream isn’t a bronzer on me at all. Instead it’s a multi-use powder that will add a beautiful shine but no shimmer. I’ve used this all over by taking a fluffy brush or fan brush and sweeping it on my face to liven up all this winter paleness. I’ve even used it as eyeshadows since the colors individually are so beautiful.

When I sweep my brush evenly across the 4 shades I end up with a peach shade that isn’t orange on me. It lightens and brightens at the same time. I use this all over very lightly or I’ll concentrate on my cheekbones.

I’m all about eyeshadow but I saved it for last so that you can see the two trios that are just fabulous. I have PurePressed Eyeshadow Trio in Pink Quartz while Lisa will share the other new trio in Soft Kiss. You’ll fall for them both!

Jane Iredale PurePressed Eyeshadow Trio in Pink Quartz

Jane Iredale PurePressed Eyeshadow Trio in Pink Quartz

This is a little bit of heaven for me. They are exactly the colors I’ve been craving lately. I had put together a similar trio but it took me three different palettes to create it. My vanity was filled. Then I opened Pink Quartz and sighed. This single compact has everything I love. According to Jane Iredale it has matte light pink, shimmery soft pink and shimmery cool plum. To me and on me though I find it to be a matte very light pink, a shimmery peach, and a shimmery taupe that’s not too dark.

I’ve added the bronze shade in the Peaches & Cream Bronzer refill too for a little more definition. The shadows look powdery when I take a brush to them but they aren’t that way on my eyes at all. I have had no fallout but I have had full day coverage with an eyeshadow primer. The colors are beautiful, they last long, and they can be used wet or day. Plus they are vegan and cruelty free. I’m crazy about Pink Quartz!!jane iredale eyeshadows spring

The Jane Iredale Spring 2017 Collection has super pretty shades that are definitely getting me in the mood for green trees and warm days.

Jane Iredale Soft Kiss Purepressed Eyeshadow Triple

Jane Iredale Soft Kiss Purepressed Eyeshadow Triple

Jane Iredale Soft Kiss Purepressed Eyeshadow Triple

My PurePressed Eyeshadow Triple is called Soft Kiss. The shades are a red based purple/mauve, slightly shimmery brownish taupe, and matte warm pink. I am very indecisive so putting together colors can be a real challenge for me. That’s why I love trios, and this one is a real winner. I use the lightest shade as an all over wash, the taupe shade in the crease, then the darkest shade also in the crease and down to line my upper lid. It makes for a very pretty, feminine eye, especially with deep black eyeliner and tons of mascara.

The eyeshadows are soft yet pigmented, and they don’t fade or crease on me. Nicely done, Jane Iredale!

Jane Iredale Pure Moist Lipstick in Lisa

Jane Iredale Pure Moist Lipstick in Lisa

The PureMoist Lipstick ($25) comes in a whopping 27 shades and the two new shades for spring are Lisa and Susan. This lipstick has a nice slip and a natural coverage – not too sheer and not too opaque. Even if you don’t normally wear lipstick I think you will like this one. The ingredients include natural oils and superfruit extracts, so lips feel very soft without any fragrance or taste.

Lisa is a creamy rose beige. Of course I love the name (!!) but I also love this shade, which is a fabulously neutral color that goes with everything. Lisa is one for the purse because you will find yourself reaching for this all-purpose lippie constantly no matter what time of day and what color your outfit.

Susan is a springy matte cool pink that adds a beautiful pop of color to your look. I love this with a soft white t-shirt and boyfriend jeans…it’s a fantastic easy-going shade that is very flattering.

Jane Iredale Skincare minis

Jane Iredale Skincare minis

With Spring Break and the spring holidays looking at us we need to think about how we can pack in the most efficient way. It’s not like summer time where you might be gone for a few weeks. This time of year you’re lucky to get away for 5-6 days but usually it’s a little less. Therefore you don’t necessarily want to shlep it all with you but you don’t want to give up quality products. And who’s coming to the rescue? Why Jane Iredale of course. Wait – did we know before that Jane Iredale had minis? I didn’t until they were sent my way and I’m happy to have them in my arsenal.

BeautyPrep Skincare Minis

BeautyPrep Skincare Minis

Jane Iredale sells mini versions of their BeautyPrep skincare. These are great for your travels, your gym bag, and for trying the brand out.

BeautyPrep Face Cleanser ($8.50) is an anti-oxidant and vitamin enhanced cleanser that uses cucumber extract in its micellar water formula. It’s a mild yet effective cleanser that doesn’t strip my skin at all. Like all of the BeautyPrep skincare items it’s cruelty free, vegan, and gluten free.

Jane Iredale BeautyPrep Cleanser and Toner

Jane Iredale BeautyPrep Cleanser and Toner

Follow the cleanser with their Face Toner ($10). This has an unusual fragrance since it’s been infused with Herbasome, a fruit extract water that contains organic Lemon Grass, Apple, Pear, Carrot and Coconut Water to restore the surface of the skin and balance pH. It refines pores and moisturizes to help makeup go on smoother and last longer.

Jane Iredale BeautyPrep Face Moisturizer

Jane Iredale BeautyPrep Face Moisturizer

My favorite product of the three is the BeautyPrep Face Moisturizer ($18). It has a light citrus fragrance from lemongrass extract. It contains 4 organic Rose Stem Cell Extracts to help with brightening and hydration. It’s very soothing and good for dehydrated skin. The full size has an airless pump system so you won’t be double dipping.

Jane Iredale Hydrating Mists

Jane Iredale Hydrating Mists

Other minis are their famous Hydration Mists. It’s the best way to try these out to see if they are great for your skin. These sprays have many uses

  • Sets minerals for a long lasting, smooth finish.
  • A must for post-laser.
  • Use to wet brushes and turn powder eye shadows into eyeliner.

Jane Iredale D2O Hydration Spray

Jane Iredale D2O Hydration Spray

D2O Hydration Spray: “D2O™ is based on Ylang Ylang that helps to hydrate, calm and protect the skin.” This one is great for hydrating, calming and protecting the skin. Ylang Ylang Flower Extract and Essential Oil balances oil in the skin. Chamomile Flower Extract calms and soothes while it helps alleviate dryness, itching and sensitivity.

Balance Hydrating Spray: This is my pick of the three I have. “Balance is formulated with Orange Essential Oil, Orange Peel Extract, Grapefruit Peel Extract and Algae Extract to help balance skin’s oil.” I’m a big fan of citrus so this one is the most soothing to me. I used to be the queen of hot flashes and this spray was a life saver for me to get through those sessions. Balance Hydrating Spray is especially good for balancing oil.

Jane Iredale Pommisst Hydrating Spray

Jane Iredale Pommisst Hydrating Spray

Pommisst Hydrating Spray: This is the only one that I can no longer find a mini of though it was available in December. Pommisst is recommended for all skin types. It contains Pomegranate Extract, a powerful antioxidant and UV protector that also hydrates and helps minimize UV damage. Other important ingredients are White Tea Leaf Extract and Rosemary Leaf Extract.

All three of these Hydration Sprays are available in full size as well as refills for them. Hydration Sprays have been awarded ECOCERT’s Natural and Organic certification. ECOCERT strives to promote the use of ingredients derived from renewable resources and from organic farming.

Have you tried Jane Iredale skincare? If you like organic, vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free products then you don’t want to miss out. I’m all set for travel between these goodies and the GLOW for a cause body butters. What about you?  —  Marcia

Marcia’s 2010 Best of List

Lisa’s favorites of 2010 made me stop and realize I should be reporting on this too.  So here I am with some of my new favorites for 2010. All of these are items I’ve reviewed and continue using now. I’m not including items I used prior to 2010, just the new and wonderful discoveries. (I have lots of reviews half written for items that I’m sure will be favorites of 2011 but I’ll keep those secret for now.)

IT Cosmetics: everything about this brand is wonderful. I haven’t found a product that isn’t a rave for me. My new favorites that I discovered in 2010 are IT Cosmetics Brow Pencil and Bye Bye Pores powder. These get used all the time.

Burberry: I’ve got a few items from Burberry now but the only true winner in the brand for me is the foundation. It’s got a beautiful finish and I’m thrilled that the fragrance of it dissipates so quickly.

Cat Cosmetics: I’ve used Cat for a long time. For 2010 first place goes to Eye Sharpie. Oh I love the Eye Sharpie! Second place goes to the Lip Plumper in Rich. I love the way this looks and I really love the way this feels!

Josie Maran: This is a brand I first tried in 2010. They have become known for argan oil and the use of it in so many of their products. The eyeshadows from Josie Maran really stand out for me in their smoothness and pigmentation. I also really enjoy the Bronzing Argan Oil for giving a light natural glow to my winter white face.

Motives Cosmetics: speaking of eyeshadows, a big wow for these. Lovely texture that lasts and lasts. I can’t wait to try more from this brand.

Darac Beauty: another brand I’m quite impressed with. I won’t mention Sifted Blur since that was a previous discovery (I’m so sneaky). 2010 discoveries are his Brow Trio and Feature Focus. Both get a lot of use in the Marcia household.

DJV Beautenizer mascara: I probably need a category just for mascara because I’ve found some wonderful ones this year but this one stands out in my mind even after it’s gone. When they added conditioning oils to their previous formula it seemed to bring out the best in this mascara.

Le Metier de Beaute: I have many loves from this line and I’ve spent a lot of hours pouring over it at Neiman Marcus. Corinthian eyeshadow has to make my best of list as do the eye Kaleidoscopes in Devotion and Le Cirque.

Jane Iredale: 2010 brought me the wonders of Jane Iredale, a fabulous cosmetic line. I love so much of the line but the Perfectly Nude eyeshadow palette stands out as the best; a makeup artist’s dream come true. (Circle/Delete don’t be jealous, I love you too!)

Marie Louise Cosmetics: I had the Restoration Gel in my arsenal in 2009 but didn’t really start using it until 2010 so it counts! It’s become a favorite for its gentleness. The products that have really won my heart from Marie Louise though are the Vital Nanoemulsion a-VC beauty serum and Crème a-VC. They are perfect for my winter dry skin.

Bambola Beauty: There are a lot of great natural skincare items from this brand. Bambola is a great discovery. My favorites are the Mango Moisturizing Mask and Acai Anti-Oxidant Cleansing Crème. Both are winter wonderful items for rehydrating what winter has done to my complexion.

Ellen Sirot Hand Perfection: the name says it all “hand perfection”. I don’t want to be without the day cream for hands ever again.

Senna Cosmetics: this isn’t known as a skincare line but Senna’s Light and Lift eye cream gets used by me all the time! A 2010 best!

Trish McEvoy: I have to give a shout out to Beauty Booster Cream. This primer and mask is amazing!

My last post of 2010 was for BE Beverly Hills Shine and Repair Serum with Argan Oil. It’s the best serum I’ve tried for my hair in 2010 and I’m grateful for it after my unhappy haircut and color.

Touchback: this fabulous temporary hair color tool is something I’m grateful for. It’s saved many a day covering up those gray roots that plague me.

Birchbox: I’ve gotten two of these now and they are a thrill for $10 total. Even if I don’t use some of the items I have lots of ways to share them. This is a bargain for the price.

My list is a lot longer than I realized it would be, especially considering how many loves I left out. I’m looking forward to using all of these items throughout 2011 and sharing many new ones with you. Have a happy and healthy 2011 dear readers. — Marcia

Lisa’s top favorites of 2010

Inevitably, the looming new year sparks reflection upon the one passing…and in the world of Beauty Info Zone, that means only one thing – what were my favorite cosmetic discoveries of 2010??

I had a great year in terms of holy grails.  Normally I might find one or two, but this was a banner year – I found so many things I can’t live without that I couldn’t even limit it to my ‘top ten for 2010’.  After some heavy duty soul searching and major editing, I came up with my most favorites.

My vote for coolest cosmetics lines new to me this year:

Vanitymark – super high quality products with a really neat variety of items.

Darac Beauty – all together, lovely products that form a complete system so it’s almost one stop shopping.

Julie Hewett – gorgeous colors, wonderful items…I find myself stalking the website just to drool over the possibilities.

Covermark – amazing full coverage products, plus a whole lot more.  This is a line with surprising depth.

My vote for best overall lines I was already familiar with, and  from which I discovered more great new things this year:

Senna – love the brows, the lips, the bronzers…my list of ‘loves’ goes on and on.

Tarte Cosmetics – fabulous line with truly amazing palettes and holiday sets.

Trish McEvoy – this line is especially perfect for someone just starting their makeup collection.

Jane Iredale – this line is constantly coming out with great new products, and has some real must-haves in many categories.

Favorite skin care discoveries for this year:

Beautisol – really terrific products that work.

Simply Divine Botanicals – my favorite organic line.

Lisa Hoffman – best products for travel, in my book.

Juara Skincare – ok, a bit of a cheat, as this is one of my favorite discoveries in both skin care and body products.  My favorite loves?  The Avocado Banana Moisture Mask ($37), a fabulous hydrating mask that somehow also brightens the complexion.  Also the candlenut fragranced products, in particular the Candlenut Hydrating Shower Gel ($28), a beautiful shower gel that foams up wonderfully and smells divine, and the Candlenut Body Polish ($35), a perfect exfoliator that doesn’t scratch but still gets rid of dead skin and leave you smelling amazing.

Best hair product discoveries:

nTrance – my first encounter with argan oil, I will never be without this hair serum.

Sedu Anti-Frizz Polishing Treatment- another amazing hair serum, it’s really terrific.

Best hair tools discoveries:

Sedu hair dryer and flat irons – how did I ever live without these??

Curl-Ease hair towel – I love how it gives me frizz-free hair every single time, regardless of the weather conditions.

Coolest new electronic products:

Luminess Air Brush system – so much fun!!!  I feel like an artist when I use this.

Honeybelle Body Buffer ($325) – this is a little pricey, but take my word for it – it WORKS.  It really does reduce the appearance of cellulite.  And the Apre Contouring Creme that comes with the set is FABULOUS.

Best body product lines:

Hampton Sun – amazing sunscreen and I adore the fragrances in this line’s products.

Whish – everything is super retro cool, I want one of each!  I am especially digging the Lavender Three Whishes Body Wash ($22) – super scent, just the right amount of suds, and it leaves your skin so soft and hydrated.

Hand Perfection – hands down, best hand products of the year.  No contest.

Best beauty tools of the year:

Hollywood Fashion Tape – love, love, love every single thing.  Just check out the Hollywood Hangover Kit pictured above!!  Every item is hilarious, retro, and unbelievably useful.

Crown Brushes – amazing brushes at a super affordable price.

Best brow discovery:

Senna– sick of me talking about this yet?  I just cannot live with out my Form-A-Brow Kit.

Best eyeshadows of the year:

Tarte Cosmetics – fabulous pigmentation and the sets are amazing.

Le Metier – gorgeous, unusual colors that you can actually layer without creating a muddy mess.  See a demonstration here.

Best foundation discovery:

FACE atelier Ultra Foundation – simply amazing foundation.  True love at first wear.

Best concealer discoveries:

It Cosmetics – Marcia introduced me to this amazing concealer that really covers imperfections with the tiniest bit of product.

Covermark – particularly the Under Eye Cover Kit, which covers anything that might be wrong, and has a great loose powder for setting the concealer.

Best self-tanner:

Pur Minerals Get a Little – such a wonderful creamy self-tanner that leaves you looking thin, tan, and happy.

Tan Towels – amazing little towels that give you a super natural, streak-free tan.  I will be expounding on these gems more in my upcoming review.

Best blush discovery:

Mai Couture – I still can’t believe that fabulous blush – and bronzer, too – can be so portable.  Blush in little papers?  Ingenious!

Best mascara discovery:

Revitalash – thick, long, super black lashes that don’t fade, flake, or smear.  What else could a girl ask for?

Best lip discoveries:

Le Metier Creme de la Creme lip gloss – a fabulous neutral that makes any kind of ugly lip color look gorgeous, it’s one of my secret weapons.

Beaute Cosmetics – every single lip product is unique and genius.

FACE atelier lip glaze – I am never without Lip Glaze in Ice…and now I will never be without Lip Glaze in Dianthus, the perfect shimmery pink.

Besame Sweetheart Balm lip gloss pots – gorgeous colors, amazing slip and texture, and a red that looks terrific even on me!

Best mineral makeup line:

Purely Cosmetics – fabulous, high quality, affordable minerals.

Favorite makeup up artist:

Victoria Stiles – she is amazing, just love her work and her website!!

A variety of items I simply cannot live without:

Jane Iredale Botanical Brush Cleaner

Vanitymark Duo Brush and Ultra-Tweeze Tweezers

Urban Decay Grind House Pencil Sharpener

Hard Candy Moon Glow Pressed Powder

Z Palette palettes

The year 2010 was simply amazing for me in terms of finding new loves and favorites.  I cannot wait for what 2011 is going to bring!

Happy New Year everyone!!  Warmly, Lisa

Marcia’s Top Ten x 2

It’s time for me to stop and assess all the items I’ve blogged about since I wrote a Top Ten list in August. I’m amazed and excited about so many of the products that I’ve been introduced to over the last 3 months so I’m picking my Top Ten from the ones that are new to me. There are quite a few I’ve written about that I’ve used for years so I’m not including those, just the ones that I’ve learned about while writing  Beauty Info Zone. They aren’t in any particular order; I love them all and wanted a second chance to talk about them.

  • Senna Light and Lift Eye Cream – I’m using this every single morning and ignoring all the other little jars of eye cream on my counter. I love the light fresh feeling of this. I like how quickly it absorbs yet leaves my eyes soft and subtle underneath. I have chronic insomnia and Senna Light and Lift Eye Cream has been a lifesaver many mornings. I need just the tiniest amount so this will last me a long time making it even more of a bargain than it already was at $28.
  • Resurf.a.stic Face – Exfoliation was a rare concept for me for most of my life. I just never realized what a difference it makes for the smooth appearance of foundation. I’ve discovered a few great exfoliators lately and this is one of them. It’s so easy to use and it gets to the exact spots you need exfoliating so effortlessly.
  • Burberry foundation I have lots of foundations, I love foundation, I need foundation and this is a winner. Since my local Nordstrom doesn’t carry the brand I ordered it on faith using another blog’s swatches. When it arrived I went from glee (picking the right shade) to horror (it is so fragranced) back to glee (I can tolerate the fragrance because it dissipates quickly). The foundation imparts a beautiful finish. It’s slightly dewy and covers nicely. I especially love it when I use my Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster (see below) since it lasts so well when I use these together.
  • MAC Superslick Liquid Eye Liners  – When I reviewed these I only owned two but after using them I went back to the MAC counter and picked up 4 more. I find these really easy to use, long lasting and beautiful. It came in 9 shades and most are still available on MAC’s website. I still don’t know if they are LE or permanent but I’m sure these will last so long that I don’t have to worry about it. All the colors are great so I refuse to pick a favorite!!
  • My list wouldn’t be complete without Le Metier de Beaute since that’s the cosmetic brand that has won my heart in 2010. I’ve reviewed 2 single eyeshadows (Plum and Corinthian), 4 adorable nail polishes in beautiful shades and the Le Cirque eyeshadow Kaleidoscope. I’ve got to pick my most used product for this list and that’s Corinthian eyeshadow. I love this shade. It’s a color I’m comfortable wearing any time. There’s just something so special about Le Metier and especially about Corinthian eyeshadow.
  • Mascara. Now this is hard because I’ve found two that I really like and would repurchase.  The first is d.j.v. beautenizer Fiberwig LX. I love the curved brush on this mascara. While I still need an eyelash curler I can see how it would help create curls for someone that didn’t. This gives me definition and lengthening without smudging and flaking. I can build it up for more drama too.
  • The second mascara is Josie Maran GOGO Instant Natural Mascara. I really like the look this gives me and I love the good cause behind the creation of this mascara. GOGO means Get One, Give One and the one you are giving is to a City of Hope cancer patient/survivor. In addition Josie Maran is donating $1 of each sale to City of Hope. We need to stand behind cancer cures so this cause is wonderful and so generous. Not only are you buying a mascara that doesn’t smudge, gives length and definition but you are doing it for someone else at the same time.
  • Jane Iredale Liquid Mineral Foundation –  for me this seems more like a tinted moisturizer than a regular foundation. It’s very lightweight and worked well for me during the summer months when I wanted coverage but nothing that would smother my face. This Jane Iredale foundation has become a staple in my foundation wardrobe already.

It was hard to pick ten yet I already have my next Top Ten started in my head since I’m one lucky lady when it comes to the treasures of the cosmetic world. — Marcia
