Illamasqua Glamore Lipstick, Liquid Lip Lure, and Eye Crayon are wonders and so is this giveaway

wonderwomanThe recent SkinStore survey got me thinking…most women’s go to lipstick for enhancing confidence is a nude shade, not a colorful one. I must be abnormal, because I grab the colorful option every time. Add some black eye liner and I am as confident as Wonder Woman.

Illamasqua has some beautiful options that I reach for time after time, including the Glamore Lipstick in Kitsch, Liquid Lip Lure in Embers, and Colouring Pencil in S.O.P.H.I.E.                                                                     samples

Illamasqua Glamore Lipstick, Lip Lure, Colouring Pencil

Glamore Lipstick in Kitsch ($19.50) is a gorgeous cool toned blue-based pink. The formula is incredibly creamy and the lasting power is just insane.  Illamasqua KitschIllamasqua Kitsch

Rocking no makeup except Illamasqua Glamore Lipstick in Kitsch

Rocking no makeup except Illamasqua Glamore Lipstick in Kitsch

This lipstick leaves my lips soft and hydrated and the color gradually wears off without leaving a nasty ring around the edges or cracking and peeling. The medium pink is just bright enough to give me a quick boost of ‘don’t even think about messing with me’!

Illamasqua Liquid Lip Lure in EmbersIllamasqua Liquid Lip Lure in EmbersIf I am feeling more warm than cool, I reach for Illamasqua Liquid Lip Lure in Embers ($19.50). This hot orange is truly hot, hot, hot, and I am absolutely on fire when I wear it. It has a very intense pigment and, like the lipstick, the wear time is incredible. If you want a slightly less intense look, blot right after application. You’ll still be throwing elbows and taking names for hours.

Illamasqua Colouring Pencil in S.O.P.H.I.EIllamasqua Colouring Pencil in S.O.P.H.I.ESome bright lipstick and eyeliner are all I need to make me feel like I can do anything. I love eye pencils because they are so quick – and I am ALWAYS running late – and the Illamasqua Colouring Pencil in S.O.P.H.I.E. is a wonderfully sooty black that gives my eyes definition without being overly dramatic – just enough so that everyone knows I mean business. This eye pencil glides on and doesn’t smudge. I love it.

I am sure you can find your own Illamasqua power colors – just head on over to SkinStore and take a look!  – Lisa

Top Ten red nail polishes

Favorite red nail polishes #beautyinfozone

Favorite red nail polishes #beautyinfozone

It’s Top Ten Tuesday and we’re going red. Each blogger is picking their favorite red items so they could be anything. I’m all about red nails. I love red nail polish and wore it for years and years. I’d wear pink in the summer and red the rest of the year. I’ve expanded horizons but to me there’s nothing like a good red. If it’s metallic, that’s all the better.

In no particular order here are the reds I can wear again and again and never tire of. In the meantime my nail drawers are filled with more reds but I narrowed it down to:

butter LONDON, A-England, FACE Stockholm, Illamasqua, FABY

butter LONDON, A-England, FACE Stockholm, Illamasqua, FABY

1.  butter LONDON Knees Up – this metallic red speaks for itself. It lasts and lasts and shines the entire time. This is one of my very favorite butter LONDON polishes and it’s still available.

2.  a-england Perceval – this is called a ‘splendid and resplendent red’ by a-england and it’s definitely splendid. I am a big fan of a-england polishes and would own them all if I could. This deep ruby has a subtle shimmer that makes it perfect.

3.  FACE Stockholm 128 – This polish was in one of my Wantable subscription boxes and I’ve never been so happy to see a polish. 128 is the perfect red that is ultimately wearable. I love a cool red and this does the job.

4.  Illamasqua Scarab – I haven’t worn this polish in forever and in my mind it was redder than it shows on the wheel. Instead it’s a stunning deep burgundy with subtle shimmer that’s a touch metallic.

5.  FABY Lacquer in Hibiscus Bloom – A little known Italian brand that makes gorgeous polish. This beautiful red has some pink shimmer in it to make it even more special.

6.  Color Me Monthly Just For You – I’m wearing this right now actually because it’s a beautiful metallic red and I can’t resist metallic red shades. CMM is a monthly subscription for $7 a month. When you receive a color like this, you know it’s the right subscription service to belong to. This is currently available for $9 in their Vault and I highly recommend it.

7.  Zoya Lisa – I bought Lisa in one of Zoya’s sales and it was the best choice. I love the shimmer in this because it’s definitely there yet it’s subtle and easy to remove. It’s a cherry red which I especially love in the summer.

8.  ncLA Satin Sheets Velvet Ropes –  What can I say? It’s red, it lasts, it’s cruelty-free, and it’s beautiful.

10.. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Red Eye – This is new to me and boy do I love it. I hated to buy the top coat too but now that I’ve had a chance to experience one of the polishes I’ll go back for more. On the Sally Hansen site there are so many beautiful shades of Miracle Gel.

Pure Luxury: August Glossybox

The theme of the August Glossybox is Pure Luxury.  With the end of summer upon us, your body probably needs a little tender loving care.  This box is full of wonderfully pampering items that take care of you from top to bottom.  The color items are beautiful neutrals that are very complimentary to any lingering summer glow.

Here’s what is inside:

Lots of luxurious goodies for summer’s end

There are two deluxe size items, one that is more of a sample size, and two full-sized items.

The GlossyMag is all about COLOR:

Gorgeous neon color!

The magazine shows great products in neon hues like blue, orange, and lavender.  Plus, it covers various makeup options that compliment different hair colors.

The sample size item is Biolage ExquisiteOil Replenishing Treatment.

This is a hair serum made with a Moringa Oil Blend for lots of shine.

The deluxe size items include Ole Henriksen Truth Serum:

The full size of this costs $48.  It’s a Vitamin C complex for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Plus, it’s a great antioxidant.  This gets great reviews and I am really excited to try it out.

The second deluxe size item is the Touch In Sol Feel Like Honey Moon Skin Base.  The full size costs $20.

I Feel Like a Honey Moon

This is a lightweight primer that smooths the skin and helps your makeup apply beautifully.  This seems to be a very light primer, it’s probably best for those with oily/combination skin.

There are two full size items, one of which is this beautiful neutral nail polish named Purity from Illamasqua ($14):

Illamasqua Purity

Different boxes got different colors.  This one is a beautiful pinky-peach.  It is such a pretty creamy color, I love to wear neutrals on my hands and I can’t wait for my next manicure so I can try this out.

What a beautiful neutral color!

The final full size item had me jumping for joy, it’s Ellis Faas L107, which makes a perfect neutral lip.

Ellis Faas L107

It is very pretty on, it has a great mouth feel and I love the color.  I think there are probably different shades in the boxes, I can’t wait to see what other people got.  And wow – I expect my Glossybox to have 5 travel size items, so this was a big surprise!

Considering that the two full size items are worth more than what you pay for the whole box, I think Glossybox is a very worthwhile subscription to have.  Every month seems to get better and better,  now I am anxious for the September box to arrive!  – Lisa

11 favorites from 2011 – year end round up

Narrowing down six months of reviews to my top 11 is close to impossible. I scanned through my reviews since my last top 10 list only 6 months ago and came up with at least 26 items. Luckily our last Side by Side  was for some of our favorite discoveries so that narrowed my list down by 5. The following are what stands out, in no particular order. These are items I use all the time and would gladly purchase again.

REN: This was a surprise to me. I’m not a big bath and body person but once I had this gorgeous Neroli Gift Set* in my hands I realized that this was something special. Taking them into my shower just proved that. I love the fresh crisp fragrance of the Neroli and I like that it’s helping keep away the winter flakies.  Whether you want the beautifully boxed gift set or the products separately, I think you’ll find some REN to be “renderful” in your life.

Ren Neroli Gift Set

I’ve become a serum junkie lately and two different ones are taking over my life. The first is Chella Skin Firming Serum and the second is Reviva Labs Hyaluronic Acid Serum. I use the Chella Skin Firming Serum* in the morning. In my review I told you that it scored three touchdowns: 1) no fragrance 2) I need one tiny drop for my whole face and 3) how it works under my foundation. Not only is there a nice firming effect but it doesn’t affect the look of my foundation except to make it better and make me look more radiant each day. At night I use Reviva Labs Hyaluronic Acid Serum* and I’m thrilled about this rediscovery. With winter winds I normally get several dry spots plus notice how dehydrated my skin is but that’s not happening so far this winter.  Even though this was a recent review I’ve been using it for about 6 weeks and I know this is a keeper.

SENNA: Senna always seems to make my top 10 lists. They have so many terrific products. The one that stands out recently and that has become a savoir many times is Light Tricks*. This is a fun double sided tool that brightens you when you most need brightening. The thin side is a light beige to put on your waterline to open your eye look. Since it’s not white, it looks very natural. The thicker side is a creamy champagne with a touch of shimmer and I use it all the time on my browbone to finish my eye look. It’s great for other areas like the cupid’s bow and inner corner of your eye but my favorite use is on my browbone.

Senna Light Tricks

My next choice is mascara and I’m picking two since I don’t want to choose! My two loves the past six months have been Napoleon Perdis and Marcelle.   I had the Napoleon Mesmer-Eyes Mascara* and loved the dual action. The brush is actually a two sided comb. Side one is very small to help separate lashes, side two is wider and creates both length and volume. I always felt great wearing Mesmer-Eyes because it met the promises it made. My second favorite and the one I’m wearing right now is Marcelle Volume Precision Mascara* and I’m going to be really sad when I have to toss it soon. Even after almost 3 months this mascara is just as magical as it was from the very beginning. The brush is a polymer one with bristles of differing sizes. It gives me perfect definition and volume without any smudging ever. It’s one I can count on for a day to day look or to build up for glamour. Luckily I can order this on their website since I’m going back to it again and again.

Now I’m going to cheat a little since my next choice is nail polish. I adore nail polish and I just can’t pick which are my favorites of the last 6 months so I’m going to tell you that you need to read about Le Metier de Beaute Holiday Nail Polish sets that are still available at Neiman Marcus. Le Metier makes outstanding polishes that I can’t stop collecting. Nails Inc also has grabbed my heart. I’ve done several reviews on these with the latest being The Boltons and the Special Effects holographic top coat and the gorgeous Belgrave Place and Franklin’s Place . I also am madly in love with Chanel Peridot  and Illamasqua Throb polishes that I reviewed together. I could go on and on but I don’t want you to fall asleep so I won’t mention Dashing Diva* polishes today (or maybe I just did).

TheBalm eyeshadows have won my heart this year. I already mentioned my love of Rouge Bunny Rouge or that would be my choice but I’m having a ball with TheBalm. So far I’ve reviewed Shady Lady Volume 2 and Shady Lady Volume 3 plus I have two more palettes to share in 2012. Great quality, great pigmentation, beautiful colors all at a reasonable price.

TheBalm Shady Lady 3

Last but not least is Make Up For Ever. It’s hard to pick between the Wild & Chic Best of Kit and the terrific Aqua Liners (Precision Waterproof Eyeliners) so I’ll keep these as numbers 10 and 11. With the MUFE Best of Kit* I was introduced to the Smoky Mascara, the HD Primer and Microfinish Powder plus got the chance to own the fabulous Aqua Eyes cream eyeshadow in #13. With the Aqua Liners I am able to choose from the half dozen colors I bought and know that my eyeliner looks beautiful throughout the day and night.

I hope I haven’t lost you by now since all of these products are ones I highly recommend and think you’d love too. Have I hit on any of your favorites? – Marcia

The beauty of Illamasqua Throb and Chanel Peridot nail polishes

I keep people guessing when it comes to my nail polishes. My nail tech and my husband never know what to expect from me. There are weeks I like being the ‘mommy’ and wear subtle pinks, there are weeks I like being the ‘lady’ and wear beautiful reds. Other weeks I’m the ‘artist’ and pick purples, blues, and holographic shades. My two latest manicures are reviewed here: Chanel Peridot Nail Colour and Illamasqua Throb Nail Varnish. They couldn’t be more different.

Let’s start with Illamasqua Throb, one of the most ladylike polishes I own. Throb is a beautiful true red cream polish. No shimmer, no funkiness. This is a polish for the ages. Not only is the shade stunning and got me lots of compliments but it’s timeless. If there’s such a thing as a neutral red this is it. It doesn’t have a blue undertone which is what I often pick when I choose a red. I believe that this would work on just about any skintone. Illamasqua polishes have a formula second to none. They are often full enough to work with one coat though I always prefer two so there’s no streakiness. They apply like a dream and they last amazingly well. They are $18 and available on Sephora.com. I’ve previously reviewed 3 others (Scarab, Baptiste and Phallic) and can’t wait to add more of these polishes to my collection.

On the opposite side of the spectrum is Chanel Peridot. It’s so not my kind of color but the more I saw pictures of it, the more I knew I needed it. Whether I’d wear it or not was another story. I finally caved after my ladylike week and brought Peridot with me for my manicure. The verdict – love!! This is one of the prettiest polishes I’ve worn. Even though I never thought I could tolerate a green shade on my nails this is so unusual that you never know what shade you’re going to see.  Is it gold? Is it green? Is it khaki? Is it metallic?

It’s all – at different times. And it’s stunning on my nails. I think I surprised more people with this particular manicure than with any other I’ve done (except maybe the first time my family saw me wearing blue polish). This is a limited edition polish ($25) that may or may not still be available. If you’ve wavered about this shade stop that right now. This is worth tracking down. It’s one of the best Chanel nail polishes I’ve ever bought as far as the formula goes. It looked beautiful with one coat and stunning with two coats.

While Chanel Peridot and Illamasqua Throb run the gamut they have one thing in common; they are both beautiful to apply and beautiful to wear. I don’t mind this kind of split personality. — Marcia

Side by Side – 10 top color items for 2011

Beauty Info Zone hasn’t done any top 10 lists lately and we’re way overdue. It was super hard to pick out of all the reviews we’ve done and narrow it down to only 10 products each so if we cheat a little, don’t be mad. We’ve both reviewed so many products that we reach for all the time. Here’s what’s standing out to Marcia and Lisa’s Top Ten for the first half of 2011.

MARCIA’S LIST:

  1. Rouge Bunny Rouge: Oh how I love my Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadows. Here are two reviews that I’ve written about them. There will be more to come! Start with my first RBR post and then read this post.
  2. Illamasqua nail polish: I love my nail polishes and I have used so many that have won my heart. But Illamasqua are the ones I’m lusting after.
  3. Face Stockholm: All the Face Stockholm products I’ve tried have been absolutely wonderful but if I have to pick one to live with forever after it would be the Rio cream blush.
  4. Billion Dollar Brows: Here’s where I cheated. I know I said 10 items but I use the BDB brow powder and tweezers every single day so I have to include them both. I would be lost without these now.
  5. Tarte Inner Rim Brightener: Another product I use every single day; I even have two since I don’t want to be without this.
  6. Le Métier de Beaute’ Fresh Creme Tints: I have all of these and I love them to pieces. I’m a cream girl/lady/woman and these are so creamy. They double as blush and lip tints.
  7. Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes: Cheating again, more Tarte but I can’t help it. These are the longest lasting powder blushes I’ve ever tried. Every color is fabulous too.
  8. Armani Intense Eyes to Kill eyeshadows:  These are unique on the market and I love using them. I’m so sad I didn’t buy more which means I will be buying more!
  9. Face Atelier Lip Putty: I picked this over all the other great Face Atelier products because I use it constantly. It’s the best product I own to prime my lips.
  10. Dan Read foundation: I know Lisa is going to mention this but the more I thought about the list, the more I realized I couldn’t write my top ten without it.

LISA’S LIST:

  1. Dan Read eyeshadows:  Everything about Dan Read makes me happy, especially his foundation, but I’m in an eyeshadow kind of mood lately and these have won my heart.
  2. Vasanti Eye Products: Every single eye product that I use from Vasanti is wonderful. Eye Wonder is a fabulous eye cream and Vasanti’s Moon Dust Shimmer Powder is amazing.
  3. OCC pigments:  I have always loved pigments and my collection is huge. OCC pigments stand out though because they are top notch and I love them all but Artifact is the very best.
  4. Cargo eyeshadow palettes: I’m obviously on an eyeshadow kick lately and Cargo started this kick. Once I tried their palettes I became more obsessed with eyes than ever. Cool Neutral has gotten me through many work days because I know that even if I wake up late I’ll end up with a polished eye.
  5. Unii palettes: I’m in love with the amazing colors of Unii palettes. They bring a smile to the face of this serial depotter. Anyone who likes their eyeshadows and blushes in palette form needs a collection of these.
  6. Cargo Magic Brush: This is the brush I choose if I can only have one brush. It’s so soft and does such a magical job on my face.
  7. Face Stockholm color correcting foundation: I’ve been amazed with the Matte Foundation in Lilac. I never thought something like this would work but oh my goodness, it’s a fabulous addition to your foundations.
  8. Face Stockholm blush: Shambella matte blush has been my most used blush lately. The quality is terrific, so incredibly smooth and easy to blend.
  9. Illuminare eyeliner: I never thought that I’d fall so in love with an eyeliner but Illuminare Beyond Black has stolen my heart.
  10. Illuminare foundation: Illuminare makes several formulas of foundation and I refuse to pick a favorite; I can’t help but love Extra Coverage foundation/concealer and Mattifying Mineral foundation. Add in their Fast Application Pad and you have perfection.

We hope you’ve gotten to the end of this very long article. We each could have done a list of 20 but we have to stop at some point. We will be following up with another Side by Side with our top 10 on other types of products.

Did we hit any of your favorites in this list? — Marcia and Lisa

An eyeliner question – would you or wouldn’t you?

Did you ever think about getting permanent eyeliner? I had two experiences within a few days of each other that has put this in my mind. First was when I was getting my nails done and there was a technician at the salon doing permanent eyeliner on customers. A few days later a friend told me she’d recently had it done. It got me thinking and made me realize two things. First I don’t want this done, I’m afraid of needles, I’m afraid of pain, it’s too expensive (my friend paid $350 to have it done). Second I realized that I LOVE putting on eyeliner. I really do. I love wearing different shades of liners (even if 90% of the time they are shades of blacks or browns). I love trying out all types of eyeliners (gels, pencils, liquid, eyeshadows, and cake liners). I think I’m pretty good at putting it on too.

Which leads me to the point of this review… eyeliner. Specifically Illamasqua cake eyeliner. I haven’t used cake eyeliner in years though it used to be a staple of mine. I never finish anything cosmetic but I have finished several Face Stockholm cake eyeliners in Eggplant. One evening a few months ago I decided I needed to try a cake eyeliner. I remembered a review I read on Pink Sith’s blog about Illamasqua’s so I decided that’s where my money should go.

There are 2 shades of these cake eyeliners at Sephora: Mislead (black) and Danger (navy blue) and an additional 2 more at Illamasquacosmetics.com: Zeal (pine green) and Devout (steely grey). These are $23 each and mine will easily last me the rest of my life. I’ve used it half a dozen times and the spot where I’ve wet it is exactly the same size.

I also purchased Sealing Gel ($15) which contains 2 small bottles. I’m really glad that I included this in my order since I like depth in my eyeliner and that’s what Sealing Gel gives me. You could use water or another brand’s product that seals eyeliner too (i.e. Paula Dorf Transformer, Trish McEvoy Finish Line). For me water just didn’t cut it. The first time I used my cake eyeliner I applied it with water only. It went on smoothly but I swear it disappeared an hour later. I want to put on eyeliner and have it last all day long without me touching up so Sealing Gel is a must for me.

I’ll put a single drop of the Sealing Gel (or water) on something like my stainless mixing palette and dip my brush into that. I don’t like putting the gel onto the cake because it just gets soaked in. Using a brush I find a little goes a long way. I work the gel in and work the pigment into a paste like texture and then apply it. On my top lashline this lasts all day without fading or wearing away. On my bottom lashline though, I do need to renew it by evening.

Danger is a true navy and on my brown eyes I find that this can bring out the whites of my eyes. I especially like navy eyeliner with certain shades of brown shadows.

Now that I’ve rediscovered cake eyeliners I am worried that it will open up a new way for me to spend money. Maybe it would be cheaper to spend that $350 and get permanent eyeliner? No, never mind, it’s just too much fun for me to put it on and find every nuance of eyeliner shades. Would you do permanent eyeliner? I’d love to know. — Marcia
